Situated in the heart of Tuscany, in the centre of the triangle formed by the towns of FLORENCE - SIENA - PISA, on average 30/40 kilometres away, Borgo della Meliana is extremely close to ancient villages and medieval and Etruscan towns such as SAN GIMIGNANO (18km), CERTALDO (10km), VOLTERRA (28km).The complex has 23unites of different size.

Borgo della Meliana offers a total of 21 Apartments and Houses of different sizes, all decorated in the same style yet each one is unique.

Three Room Apartment 4+2:

Located at the first floor or at gound floor, 70/80 sq.meters,

the accomodation has two double bedrooms (master bedr...oom with king size bed and ensuite bathroom) and n.1 double bedroom (with double or twins bed). The accomodation has a fully equiped kitchen and a lrage livingroom with a double sofa bed.

There are all the mod-cons such as heating and air conditioning in all the rooms, satellite TV, Fast Internet, common laundry room, swimming pool, jacuzzi and solarium.The quality of the apartments is very high. Rooms have been furnished with painstaking attention to every detail in line with the style and taste of Tuscan houses: furniture and furnishing complements are mostly antique and have been found following a long and patient search in the area.

The rooms are tastefully decorated, the traditional materials used and the warm shades of colour are harmoniously combined to give each room a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere. Each room is unique, with its own exclusive charm making the guest feel at home and at ease in an environment that is at once elegant and familiar in which to live and better appreciate a holiday in this region.

History of the complex

Spending a holiday at Borgo della Meliana means breathing in the history of the place and the landscape; it is thought that the original core was already present in 1200 on the Via Francigena, the route of the Pilgrims, the most ancient hilltop route between the Val d'Egola and the Val d'Elsa which connects the ancient parish church of San Pietro e Paolo in Coiano and the parish church of Santa Maria in Chianni located in Gambassi mentioned by Sigerio, the Archibishop of Canterbury, in the diary of his pilgrimage to Rome in 994.

Bearing witness to an ancient settlement in the area of Borgo della Meliana are the toponyms "San Michele" and "San Michelino", today the names of two neighbouring farm-houses, which suggest that there may have previously been a church here, the same that is mentioned in archive documents of 1211 and which still existed in 1500 as found on the Guelph Captains' maps of the territory of the Castle of Gambassi.

Gambassi which was a glass-producing centre even before Murano, preserves many memories of the past which are immersed in an extraordinarily beautiful landscape and which can be explored along the many suggestive routes of the area.

Going through these lands, like the pilgrims of times past, in a short time the modern traveller can reach the towns of San Gimignano, Siena, Florence, Pisa, Arezzo and Lucca, well known for their artistic treasures where one is immersed in an atmosphere rich in history and culture.

Borgo della Meliana is one of the very few farm complexes in the area to be "listed" by the Artist and Cultural Heritage Council and therefore the restructuring and restoration work was carried out with maximum respect to the original historic building.   A great stay on a great property - Julia and Paola very helpful and we had no issues.
  Stayed in a two bed appt which was good but the individual cottages would definitely be the way to go if available.
  
  Close enough to everything to do and see in Tuscany while being out of the way and quiet.
  
  Would recommend.

  Nous avons séjourné au logement n°10. Très spacieux (3 chambres de 2 personnes et 3 salles de bain) et une terrasse privée dans la chambre parentale. Ameublement cosy et confortable, même si la bien est petite (mais bien équipée). Malheureusement, le logement n'était pas chauffée et il y faisait très frais (impression de lit humide le soir en se couchant, très inconfortable). Le cadre est superbe et le piscine immense. Cela doit être géniale l'été.

  Not only is this a great place to stay, the staff is extremely helpful and kind. You will feel right at home here. A lot of privacy and very quit surroundings. The house itself is very comfortable. We had 3 bathrooms and 3 toilets for the 5 of us. Temperature in the house was very nice so we had some good nights sleep and the kitchen has everything you need. Having breakfast on the patio is the way to get into a holiday mood. The restaurants they recommended at the reception were very good!

  Our stay at Borgo della Meliana was the high light and remains so of our five weeks trip to Italy. The hospitality shown by the staff, Paola and Marika was warm, inviting and efficient. This was exempified when my wife had an allergic reaction and needed to go to your local hospital. Both Paola and Marika came as they were both concerned. Marika kindly interpreted for us as we speak no Italiano. For the support they had shown we remain most greatful. The accommodation and facilities were of a very high standard. Should we return we would not contemplate staying elsewhere but return to Borgo della Meliana!

  a delightful base for a fantastic Tuscan Holiday

  Our family-2 adults and 2 children-first stayed at Borgo della Melina in 2007. We had a wonderful time, and returned the following year. The service, particularly from the lovely Paula, was consistantly friendly and helpful. The apartments were extremely comfortable and well-appointed. We had not visited Italy before as a family, and could not have hoped for a better base from which to explore Tuscany, as we were in easy reach of many beautiful towns and villages, and a short drive/train ride from Florence itself. We have not had as enjoyable a holiday before or since.

  We went at Borgo Melian in may 2009 and we stay for a week. The place is marvullos, beautiful landscape.
  The apartment are very charny and clean. Every accomodation has private graden with lodge and umbrellas. the staff is very gently.
  Nearby you can find a lot of restorurant very good.By car is very near to the main attraction as San Gimignano, Volterra,Firenze and Pisa.
  WE higly raccomend this Resort for a week stay with your family or friends. Perfect place to take it easy and true relax!.
  ps: Nearby there are a lot of wine producers wich you can buy great wine, and testing.
