Charming little house on two floors in the picturesque village of Gandria with partial view of the Lake of Lugano. The name Casa Parrucchiere comes from the building's use as a barbershop 100 years ago (sign still visible on facade). The Casa Parrucchiere was completely renovated in 2008 and has all modern ammenities such as a new bathroom and kitchen, beautiful hand-made terra cotta floors and floor heating plus a wood stove, telephone, laptop/printer and free Internet access, bed linen and towels, dishwasher, washing machine an...Read more

Additional Location Information

Gandria is a charming, old fishing village on the shores of Lake Lugano with just 200 inhabitants (also see Condé Nast Traveler 9/2007). As there are only very narrow alleys and lots of stairs throughout the village there are no cars, which makes it a very, very quiet place. Our house, which used to be the home and atelier of the Swiss painter Fritz Meijer for three decades, is located right on the church square in the middle or as people say here in the "nucleo" of the village. It takes you about 2 minutes to the shore of the lake walking down the steps. The house is one of the bigger private houses in the villages and "towers" over the church square with its three floors.

Gandria is about 3 miles from the city center of Lugano. The car has to be left outside the village (sorry, but everybody does, and that also makes the charm of the place). Nevertheless, you can drive down into the village to unload your things (the distance from the unloading spot to our house is about 50 meters.

There is public transportation by bus or by boat from and to Gandria from Lugano running regularly between 7 am till 7 pm. You can also walk from Gandria to Lugano – it is actually one of the most popular walks in the region as the path winds along the lake. It is known under the names "Sentiero di Gandria" and "Sentiero dell'olivo".
