Saginaw, MI, United StatesReview of cowboy way
Left on 04/07/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We had a great time. The cabin was really clean and was what we expected after looking through the pictures. A couple of things could've been better. The bedroom on the top floor was useless. The noise from the person moving on the bed kept us awake all night. Our daughter is little and wasn't trying to make noise, but the floorboards squeaked so loudly we had her move to the sofa bed on the lower floor. Also, there is not really enough rom for the pool table. You ant even make whole shots because the wall and window are in the way. Finally, some dish towels would've been nice.

the overall condition was nice however the floor is very creaky and with all 3 bedrooms stacked on top of each other it meant we kept each other up at night. the kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed and more, but was not impressed with maintenance showing up for about an hour to replace the hot tub lid without telling us ahead of time

We can to meet family member from across the south. The cabin was great, with all the space and untisel we needed for Christmas Dinner. The only complaint I would have was that we arrived Christmas Eve, was that there was no decrations for the season. Thank goodness we had some with us with a child expecting Santa to leave gifts under the tree.

This was the third year we have rented a cabin from elksprings. We have stayed in knotty and nice, almost heaven, black jack, and cowboy way. Every cabin was perfect we love staying there and it has become a November tradition for my family and I. I would recommend staying at any of the cabins they are all unique in their own way. They are secluded but at the same time only a short drive to downtown gatlinburg. It's a relaxing experience and everyone should go at least once and check out the amazing cabins they have.

We hade a toilet leak the night of Thanksgiving and the property superviser came right away and fixed it.
The kitchen was a little short of glasses, wine glasses etc considering it is suppossed to sleep mor than 10 people.
But the property manager took care of that as soon as we called.
Overall, I would recommend you highly. -

We had a fabulous first time stay at the cabin. We were thrilled to have the fire going when we arrived as it was cool and nasty outside. Absolutely thrilled that it was CLEAN, had plenty of hot water, and everything worked properly. I might suggest that you have on hand a few condiments, at least salt and pepper. A few chocolates to greet us would be an appreciated touch as we didn't bring any wine. Hopefully, we may be back some day!

Left on 10/10/2012 for a stay in October 2012
This cabin was great for our family getaway/vacation. The cabin is located 5 minutes from downtown Gatlinburg and plenty of shopping was just around the corner. Our little family members as well as the big ones enjoyed the theatre screen for watching Dvd's. Our biggest complaint was the beds. There was not a comfortable bed in the cabin including the sleeper sofas. No one in the group had a good night's sleep the entire time we were there. We may very well look into renting from Elk Springs Resorts again but we will not be renting the cabin "Cowboy Way"

Left on 10/09/2012 for a stay in October 2012
Everything was fantastic about this cabin except for the bedding. All beds including king bed, queen bed and queen bunk beds as well as sleeper sofas was horrible. No one slept well and my back hurt the entire time. No one in our party slept well except for the infant in a pack and play. The cabin itself is great the location is great and the theatre room is outstanding but I will not ask for this cabin again due to the bedding.

We have upgraded mattresses in all our cabins including Cowboy Way. Sorry your experience was not positive sleeping in this cabin. We do understand that guests travel quite a distance to stay in our cabins and deserve a good night sleep! We also realize there is a lot of personal preference in mattresses, however, we've upgraded our bedding in all cabins to provide the best possible quailty and comfort.

My wife and I stayed here in Feb at the Black Jack, upon our first day we determined that we would be returning. The cains are amazing, and the views along with the fresh air is more than words can say. Elk springs has become one of our yearly getaway locations. We have began planning a vacation stay for next year for our entire family. Our only complaint is that the bedding in Bo bedrooms was dirty. We simply utilized the detergent and bleach that we had and reasoned everything. Other than that, we were completely satisfied. And our drive and hike throughout the Smokey Mountains were absolutely breathtaking.

The cabin and location were very nice and relaxing. The pictures were slightly deceiving because the rooms were not as large as pictured on the website. It would be difficult to fit more than 2 couples, as the living areas only had a couch and one chair. We did experience a problem with the tv, but maintenance came up and gave us the master remote within 30 minutes. The projector tv would be nice if it could be used for tv and not just dvds. It would be great for football games, etc. Very quiet area and entire property area was very well kept.

We were all very much impressed with the cabin. It was very clean and comfortable. Made you feel like you were at home. I loved the set up. The only thing that I would complain about would be the pool table location. I would move that to the basement. No room to play. But other then that it was awesome! The bedrooms were very comfortable. The showers were hot, even when more then 2 showers were going at a time. Really liked the idea that it had a washer and dryer included in the unit. Made it easier to pack light for clothing. We will be back next year! Thanks for such a great vacation!

Left on 06/10/2012 for a stay in June 2012
Overall we loved the cabin and our stay there was great. Reservations, check-in/out and all our experiences with the staff were first rate. The theater room is awesome and the photos don't do it justice. The property is minutes away from the arts & crafts stores, grocery/liquor stores, and only a short drive to downtown Gatlinburg. A few things to point out for future guests with kids... First, the property right outside the cabin is beautiful, but not safe for children to play. There is a large, steep hill behind the cabin that leads into a valley, and we had to keep our kids away from the sides of the cabin. The front area is pretty small and close to the street, so we mostly kept the kiddos inside or on the deck. However, the staff pointed us to a great park nearby (Mill Park) that was great when our little ones needed a place to run. Second, these types of cabins are difficult to sound-proof, so all noises carry through almost the entire place (from the basement to the 2nd level). It wasn't a major hindrance, but be prepared to hear every footstep and noise throughout. Third, the cabin can sleep about a dozen people (including using the pull-out couches), but the dining table won't hold that many. We put the kids around the table and sat in the living room or on the deck. Third, the bunk room is essentially a set of double bunks, a closet and a tv (the bunk fills most of the room so the kids didn't play in there). Finally, there is a second deck outside the basement that would make a great play area for smaller kids. Again, this cabin is great and the staff are super friendly. I would recommend it to friends for sure.

The cabin was beautiful and the location was fantastic. A few small things were found but they did not hanper the stay. There was only a broken hand can opener, one burner on the stove did not work and there were several places where something sticky was still on the floor. The furniture is beginning to show wear and is a bit uncomfortable but I loved it there and will plan another trip back in the future.

When we first arrived my family and I were very excited the cabin was clean and beautiful. Perfect bedtime approched the nightmare began for the next 5 nights we had mices runing through the walls all over the Cabin keeping us up all night. We Called the Maintenance office and they send a man to check he promice he would be right back with mouse trap he never came back. But on the 3rd day a pest company came by they found mice droping under the spa tub. After this problem our Christmas dinner also became a nightmare the oven did not work. Our roast pork took 9 hours to cook instead of 2 1/2 hour 2 other meals we had plan to cook was ruined. Thier isn't a home office to drive to speak to someone about our cabin problem everything is over the phone. The women who is supervisor of the Elkspring resort is rude and not helpful. Maintenance personal were useless. Another man came to check the oven the problem was he did not bring any tools to fix it or to check the was a waste of time. The cabin needs some TLC and pest control monthly. We were disapointed we were happy to come home and have some peaceful sleep. I would not return to Elksspring Resort or recommend It to our Family and Friends.

First trip to the Smokies for our family. Cowboy Way was perfect for the 6 of us. Don't have to bring anything but your clothes and a beach towel for the wonderful hot tub. Would have liked just a little more storage space in the kitchen. What you see
on line is exactly what you get. Had to call office to have them come to light the pilot light on the fireplace but they came within a hour. Plenty to do and see. Highly recommend the one lane nature trail starting at light #8. We even had a 4 am visit from
a bear right outside our bedroom window. Could not have picked a better company or cabin for our first visit. -

We needed to get away for a few days and Cowboy Way was the the perfect place.... It was extremely clean, great game room, just what we needed to relax. The only thing we had a problem with was that the shower on the main level, next to the kitchen. The drainage from the shower drain was extremely slow to drain out. By the time you finished showering, the water level was up to your ankles.... This was no great issue but should be looked into, maybe a clogged drain??? Anyway, we would definitely vacation there again.... The cabin is beautiful...

Burlington, NCGreat Stay - A Few Concerns
Left on 04/24/2011 for a stay in April 2011
As usual, Elk Springs Resorts provided a great stay for our annual trip to the Smokies. We had stayed in a different cabin two previous years and decided to try this one. The location and scenery were great, and the three-level floor plan is very nice. The home theater was a nice amenity that unfortunately we did not have much time to utilize, due to the great weather we had during our stay. Customer service was excellent as usual.
However, there were a few concerns with this cabin that we had not experienced previously. Overall, the cabin was a little more dusty than we would have expected. Blinds and windowsills had heavy amounts of dust, which you would not expect in a cabin that was occupied frequently. The most unpleasant thing, however, were the conditions of the cookware. Several pots and pans had heavy amounts of grease and foodstuffs left on them from previous guests. It was obvious that these items had not been cleaned/washed prior to another guest checking out--they had evidently been placed back in the cabinets dirty, which is unacceptable considering the readily available dishwasher. Ordinarily, one would expect items such as this to be checked by Elk Springs staff prior to another guest checking in. However, I would consider this a minor disappointment.
All in all, we were satisfactorily pleased with our stay and will likely return next year, if not sooner.Response from Elk Springs Resort - 04/26/2011

Hi Dale, thanks for staying with us again and we're glad you enjoyed your stay! The cleaning issues you experienced are not something we're happy with and thank you for the feedback. All the settings were in place to have a marvelous Christmas, but Cowboy Way fell short. The sink leaked, furniture was broken, and we could never seem to get the trash picked up. The view waws great due to the heavy snowfall and the street leading up to the cabin was cleared by 1100 every morning. Overall out of 10 I give this cabin a 6. Too much money spent to get any dissatisfaction at all (and for those that think I may be just fancy, I got back from Iraq 14 days prior to checking in).

Initially we had hoped to stay for Thanksgiving but there was no vacancy. Truthfully it would have been extremely difficult to prepare a large meal in the kitchen at Cowboy Way. Also, underneath the kitchen sink the dust pan was left in the dish strainer.(Unclean!!) The only other complaint was that the headboard was loose in the upstairs bedroom where my daughter slept and was very noisy. She did not explain the problem to me until the final day of our stay. I had just thought the flooring was noisy but she said it was the bed. When I looked at it I realized that the headboard needed to be reattached.

This cabin was beautifully decorated and SO CLEAN! I am a clean fanatic and this cabin passed my expectations. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed our stay very much. The only tiny complaint i would have is that it was very cold in the basement where the 9 foot tv screen was. There was only 1 heatpump for the cabin and all the heat ended up in the upstairs. The theater room was really nice, you just needed a big blanket!:) Also i would have liked to have had more seating in the basement. There is only one couch, another couch or a sectional would allow room for more to enjoy the theater room. But with that being said we had a wonderful time and will stay at Elk Springs again! Thank you!

Pentagora, Flsome major disappointments
Left on 10/12/2010 for a stay in October 2010
Our indoor jetted tub leaked severely the first use. It literally rained down on our bedroom below soaking clothes, bedding and floor. The housekeeping staff was exceptional. However maintenance could not find a part for it so they "patched" the best they could. Next night same thing happened and we could reach no one. The after hours mailbox (manager) was FULL for two and 1/2 days. The general office could do nothing but refer us to the after hours number. Manager was "in a meeting" for a whole day or more and would not return our calls for help. We were stuck cleaning up the mess ourselves and had to wash and dry all our clothing that became wet! On the day we left the manager sent someone else to give us a partial refund...too little too late. We understand things do go wrong but our issue was not being able to reach the manager or anyone to help us. Very poor management! And they have NO physical office to go to for help. Just phones which were useless
Response from Elk Springs Resort - 10/12/2010
Manager
Hi Nancy, sorry for your inconvenience on this. It appears that the jacuzzi tub developed a small crack with the drain line and we had to special order a part for the drain. It's pretty uncommon to have an issue with a jacuzzi tub and the parts aren't readily available. We did spend the better half of a day trying to find the parts at our 3 plumbing supply companies, but they just didn't have them. We did overnight them next business day but you had checked out when they arrived.I know we handled numerous phone calls from you and you did speak live to our operations manager on several occasions who compensated you for the inconvenience. She really couldn't do anything else as we were waiting for the part. I realize it was frustrating. We also tried to give you an interim fix, but the underlying problem we couldn't solve during your stay. So the best thing we could do was get the cleaners there as quickly as possible, which we did. Please keep in mind that at a last minute notice we were able to get you checked in 6 hours before your scheduled check in, so while we couldn't fix the problem due to a part we could not get, i do think we were very responsive to you and accomodating upon your check in. But again, we're sorry we couldn't get it fixed during your stay.

We were pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the cabin. We thoroughly enjoyed the view and how easy it was to check in and check out. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because there was no phone in the cabin (there was no cell service either) and the wi-fi did not work. The instructions to reboot the modem and reboot the wireless router were vague and I feel that they should have tested this while preparing the cabin. Other than that, we loved the location, the place was secluded, but directions were easy. We plan to return next year for an extended stay. Hopefully there will be a phone or the wi-fi will work this time. That would make it PERFECT.

All of our cabins do have phones. Should you have an issue during a future stay, please call us. We have maintenance on site and would be happy to resolve your issues, including the wi-fi.

Left on 08/06/2010 for a stay in July 2010
We booked for a family reunion. The cabins were to far from each other to walk to. There were worms on the ground floor of "Majestic views". I found a moldy cookie in dresser in "cowboy way". The cleaning crew could have done a better job of "pre rental cleaning".Needed more trash bags in the cabins. Wish there were some areas on the property for the kids to play. Ball field, swimming pool, park etc. The local community center was great, but not many of our group went there. Out of the way.

Hi Jerry, sorry for the cleaning issues. We usually get great ratings and reviews for our cleaning, but looks like we just didn't get it done right for your stay and we're sorry abou that. We do have a huge common area field behind the cowboy way and some of the other cabins. it's flat secluded series of fields in the valley. We're planning on a volleball, kickball and bocci ball court in the near future as well as our pool.

Left on 07/18/2010 for a stay in July 2010
We really enjoyed our stay at Cowboy Way. There were a couple of things you might want to check into. The bedspread in the master bedroom upstairs is torn about 18 inches with the insides starting to come out, when cooking the pans you had were nice but when frying bacon, eggs etc you really need a nice non-stick skillet. The grill was great and our kids loved the hot tub and we all enjoyed the movie room. Overall we had a great time but a few improvements could be made. Thanks!

Hi Sharon, thank you for the feedback. We're constantly looking for items such as this and looks like we missed these. We've taken care of them. If you stay again, please be sure to call the office and we can remedy items such as this very quickly as we have onsite maintenance.

We loved the cabin, everything was great and the view was beautiful!!! Plenty of space for all 4 of us to do our own thing , lots of room for us to all hang out together! The only problem we had were the huge bumblebee's that scared us off the deck during the daytime!
I wish we could have stayed longer because there is so much to do in the area we didn't have nearly enough time to do everything we wanted!!! I would have liked to have had a lot more time to just relax in the cabin also!Response from Elk Springs Resort - 04/29/2010

Hi Lynn, thanks for the review. Sorry about the bee! They are actually carpenter bees. It's mating season and the male bees our out and about a lot more than last year, they are actually harmless and incapable of stinging. They will buzz around in front of you as part of their instinctual mating dance. They are pretty big and scary, but once you realize they can't sting you it's kind of interesting to watch them. Remember, as a repeat visitor you will get 10% off a future stay above and beyond any specials.

Left on 12/04/2009 for a stay in November 2009
The cabin was to sleep 10, with pull out sofas. Those were so bad that they should never be counted for real guest beds. Family had to go out to buy a $160 foam mattress topper just to get some sleep {on the floor)! Not enough linens for 5 people, let alone the nine we had. Although the service people were good about giving us more after we drove to the office. The cabin was very dusty, the blinds and other things hadn't been cleaned in a long time, the main floor small TV had such a layer of dust you couldn't see the picture. The downstairs big screen was messed up so that the sound didn't work properly and we couldn't use it. The dining table didn't seat enough people, and was impossible to move around getting in and out of the patio doors. The whole Gatlinburg area was so badly over crowded with holiday travelers you couldn't even go anywhere, traffic and parking and every road was at saturation point! Not exactly what you dream of for a family get together! I think it's too bad that places with so much to offer, don't try to keep the growth in check with what the area roads etc. can handle. Too many people jammed in, it was a traffic nightmare! Long lines to wait to stand in more long lines just to get to do one activity.

We arrived at the check in office at 3:30 p.m. and it was closed. It is suppose to be open untill 5:00. There was a note on the door with two 800 numbers to get our access code to get into the cabin. No one anwsered either phone so I left a message and no one returned my call. After waiting outside our cabin, we finally had to call the afterhours number to get in. The cabin was very nice and fairly clean but several ammenties did not work (i.e fireplace, dartboard, etc) The dishwasher was also full. Over all it was a very nice cabin and a great stay but we never once saw or talked to a single member of the management team.

The cabin was beautiful and very clean. We found the location convenient for a variety of activities. We loved the fact that we could bring our dog along for the stay.
Our only concerns:
-There was no x-Box as advertised when we made our reservation.
-There were no darts for the dart board, so we could not enjoy that activity.
-There were not extra sheets stored in the facility to use for the sleeper sofas. -

Left on 07/30/2009 for a stay in July 2009
Overall we were very pleased with our vacation in Gatlinburg. Cowboy Way was listed as a rental for 10 people. We had a total of 8 (2 families consisting of 4 adults and 4 teenagers) The sofa beds were very uncomfortable and there was limited seating for our group to enjoy all together. The home theater system was nice, but there was only 1 sofa for people to sit on to watch it. I think we were expecting the home theater chairs like in the picture on the internet. The kitchen table only had 4 chairs and the kitchen was not well stocked for a group of 10. There were also only 6 chairs on the deck. We would probably rent the home again if we had fewer people. The people in the office were very helpful when we called for information prior to our arrival. Someone from the office was there shortly after we arrived to be sure we found everything we needed and quickly returned with extra pillows and blankets. The home was very clean (with the exception of the grill on the deck) and all the appliances were fairly new and in working order. Overall I would recommend Cowboy way to smaller groups or even 2 families with younger children.

Left on 06/20/2009 for a stay in June 2009
The "cabin" is located in "resort" area with cabins next to each other, but never felt confined. Clean and quiet, the only complaint is the grill is old, with rusted grates, and thus not usable unless Aluminum foils is placed over the grates. It is natural gas.
Towels were not very thick, so take ones you like. The kichen is well stocked with plates and dishes, BUT remember to bring salt and pepper. Plenty of cooking tools sans tongs. Cabin A/C works very well, and the Fireplace is useful to take out the chill.
Very Pleased with the cabin. Located about 6 miles from the downtown Gatlinburg, Food City Grocery store is about 3 miles, and there is a Package Liquor store at the turn in off the main drag, about 2 miles. -

We stayed here for 4 days and 3 nights during spring break.
Overall it was a great stay!
The resort is beautiful and check-in/check-out was care-free!
We also loved the location & the property was kept up nicely.
The only issues we had were mainly with the cabin we were in. The maintenance (couple light bulbs out - one in the shower area, another in the kitchen - not a big deal) and cleanness of the cabin (more of a big deal - sheets were dirty in one bedroom - like a black dog or something had slept on the bed, luckily, we found another set of sheets and were able to just change them, cabin was quite dusty & there must have been a wasp nest in the cabin somewhere, we had to kill several of them - there was wasp spray under the sink - so maybe this cabin has had this issue before, not really sure).
I wouldn't hesitate to stay with Elk Springs Resort again, however, I would probably stay in another cabin (to my understanding I think these are individually owned, but, managed through Elk Springs).
We didn't complain, because like I said, it wasn't that big of a deal - the sheets were the worst, but, we changed them and all was good!
Upon check-out - I did leave a fyi message to let the resort know of the problems. -

Need to provide at least 1 large cooking pot. Nicely decorated. Hot water heater not large enough to accommodate our family of five. Adequate number of towels. Several light bulbs were burned out or did not have a bulb. Need mid week garbage collection from the porch as it accumulated and the last night an animal was able to get into it. BBQ pit grill was rusted to the point that we did not feel it was safe to use. Great location, peaceful, beautiful views, lovely homes in the area. Property seemed well insulated and when cold weather arrived, the property was easily heated. Nice ammenities such as tv, appliances, gaming system, pool table. We stayed at Cowboy Way from Nov.1st to Nov.3rd. We thoroughly enjoyed the cabin. The leaves were perfectly turning colors and from the upper balcony we could see the mountaintops over the trees.
The cabin itself is very comfortable, with a bedroom on each floor for privacy and 5 TV's including an HD downstairs.
It's a 10 minute ride to town...just close enough to be convenient but far enough for privacy.
We loved sipping wine in front of the fireplace or sitting out on the balcony with coffee in the morning.
We would highly recommend this property and hope to stay here again next year. -

Blountville, TNenjoyable stay
Left on 11/04/2008 for a stay in October 2008
We enjoyed the cabin, however there are a few things that I think management should know and maybe consider changing. The charges were very reasonable except for all of the fees. #1-I don't think we should be charged for a hot tub if you do not use it. I told management that we did not even touch the hot tub and he said that it is a rule that you have to pay to have it recleaned wheather you use it or not, which does not make any sense to me--I realize that some people may use it and say they did not but maybe it could be cleaned and then a lock put on and only the people that used it would have to pay. Hotels don't charge extra for hot tubs, it should be a choice wheather you use or don't use. Also the cleaning fees, cleaning should be a part of the rental, or there could be an inspection upon leaving and if particular messy then charge a fee, and if you are charged a fee why do you have to clean up such as put the dishes in dishwasher, linens and etc. In other words if you are paying the cleaning fee then the cleaning people should be doing the cleaning and the quest should not be paying for cleaning and doing the cleaning also. I can understand the tax but not all the extra fees. Now I will list all the things that I think should be checked in this cabin. I. the beadspreads were really bad, the one on the downstairs bedroom that I sleep in was torn in at least 4 different places, to where the stuffing was coming out.
2. My friend that sleep upstairs said the spread there was dirty and tattered and the pillows were flat also,
3. There were no hangers in any of the closets and not one extra roll of toilet paper in the whole place.
4. The blinds were real dirty, so the house cleaning people need to be told to clean the blinds every so often. I am sure you will note that the cabin was as clean when we left as when we arrived, because this is the way we are. I treat other peoples property as if it were my own and the same way I -
