Stayed at the Bear Watch. It should be called "top of the mountain" because you had to go up and up and up and up to get there. The driveway is about a 30 degree angle uphill. The doors leading outside don't fasten securely; it takes an extra swipe of the hips. The door on the first floor powder room works too securely. The handle doesn't always turn and I had to call my roommate to come and get me out.
With all the places available off Ski Mountain Road, I think we'll pass on this one on next trip to Gatlinburg. -

My husband and I stayed at Bear Watch from 9-12-12 through 9-16-12. We were greeted by a family of bears as we unloaded the car and that was a little bit scary but other than that, everything was perfect. All the facilities worked and were clean. It's quite secluded and was perfect for a romantic time. We would stay here again and have already reommended it to our friends.

Loved the chalet, it was beautiful...driveway was a bit interesting...but everything in the chalet was wonderful. We just had to laugh...we followed the directions going to the chalet each time and had no problem getting there because the street signs were visible. But, coming out each time we got lost! It was comical. So I don't know that we'd ever rent this one again. However, in saying that you must consider we are senior citizens...this would be a fantastic location for others.

My husband & I loved bear watch.we were celebrating our20 th wedding snniv annivesary. It wad very quiet romantic, & had every thing you needed.hot tub on upper deck (didn't have to worry about the bears coming by in the evening while in the hot tub.) It was so private & up so high you didnt have to wear clothes. The top bedroom had a very nice jauzzi & a small deck for romantic wine sipping & star watching, & the beautiful lights in the distance below. Ans of course we enjoyed the pool table. The only recomendation we would suggest would be to put a griil on the back porch. We have been going to mtn.laurel chalets for years & the staff is really wonderful &friendly.; Ralph the squirell likes to visit while you are enjoying the hot tub.

We were very pleased with our stay at Bear Watch during our honeymoon. The staff was excellent and helpful to our needs. We plan to take our family back very soon. Loved the updated tvs and the inside garden tub. We were happy that the chalet is somewhat secluded from other places making it nice and quiet. Far away from the hustle and bustle of town but close enough to go spend time shopping and eating. The view was absolutely breathtaking. We thouroughly enjoyed sitting on the top deck each morning watching the sun come up.

I surprised my husband for his birthday with a 3 night stay @ Bear Watch!! I don't know where to start!! We absolutely loved this chalet!! This was our 1st time in Gatlinburg & had a loving time during our stay!! Did I mention complete privacy!! No bears :-( but we did meet a squirrel (he's a chunk) so don't feed him!! The hot tub & jacuzzi was a plus!!! Everything you need is there all you need is your food & your choice of drink!!! The only dislike I had was the steep hills & curves esp. @ night!! & in the rain!!! The driveway is steep also, but our Equinox did just fine!!! You must use Mountain View Spa, they came and performed couples massages!!! Awesome!! A must when you visit!! Overall I give this stay a 8/10!!! Enjoyable sweet staff also!! Thanks to the Jacobs (owners)!!

My wife and i just got back from a 4 night stay in this property and absolutely loved it! The cabin was very cozy, clean, well set up, and well maintained. We loved the 2 42' flat screen Tv's, the outdoor hot tub, indoor jacuzzi, pool table, and small stereo. The Mountain Laurel Chalet staff was very friendly and helpful. The view was astounding. The only 2 problems i had was the very steep driveway(which wasn't really a problem until i walked up and down it) and the fact that there was no internet access(however i was told that the owner was planning on putting that in). The bed was like heaven and the most comfortable bed we've ever slept in. Overall we were very satisfied with this property in every single way and my opinion is that any insult to this property is just an attempt to start trouble from someone who is unsatisfied with their own life and try to bring others down. We would definitely recommend this home to anyone who wants a cozy, comfortable, and very relaxing stay in the smokies. Thank you to the Mountain Laurel staff and to the owner of this beautiful chalet. We will definitely be back!

Left on 12/24/2011 for a stay in December 2011
This location is not for the faint of heart, especially in the winter.
Our long weekend started pretty relaxed with shopping and a few drinks at the microbrewery. (a most stop if you enjoy a great atmosphere and a good beer)
On check-in, I was asked what I was driving; proudly proclaiming I had a 2010 GMC Sierra four wheel drive. They let me know I would need it and wishing me safe passage up the mountain. Since I hadn't seen the first flake, I boldly stated that if it couldn't make it, I'd leave it on the side of the road. (Almost had too)
It was an adventure, but we made it. Didn't leave the house for two days as the driveway was simply too slick. I'd certainly do it again, but recommend only experienced drivers for the snowy trek.
The views are great; the house is well kept and very private. A perfect spot for a regular guy to be viewed as a romantic. :)
I recommend taking you own small grill and enough supplies for an extended stay. The place is fabulous - thank you!!

I have always stayed with Mt Laurel every time I visit and have had a beautiful stay no matter the chalet! Bear Watch was definitely memorable. We absolutely loved our stay at Bear Watch. The chalet was elegant, clean, well maintained, and very homey. Our stay was only a couple of nights, but this would also be an excellent place for those who want to spend a week in a secluded area with no traffic. The kitchen is stocked with just about everything you would need for cooking, including utensils, dishes, dish towels, soap, paper towels, etc. All you need to do is bring your food, condiments, spices, foil, and you are set. We enjoyed the hot tub on the deck with the woodsy view, and the Jacuzzi in the bedroom was very spacious. For entertainment, there is a pool table, cable, dvd and cd player...so don't forget to bring some movies and your favorite tunes. The place is definitely recommended for couples who need a romantic hide away.

We initially chose this cabin over the others because it has modern large screen tv's. We rented movies from the redbox in walgreens down in town which has a free parking garage underneith it. Check in was a breeze, in and out in three minutes. The roads and driveway are steep, but paved and clearly marked so no problem. We did get some good pics of a medium sized bear. He came wondering up the driveway right at sundown. I was out cleaning the grill after dinner and luckily my girlfriend walked out on the porch to speak to me and saw it or it would have rounded the corner and been right on me. I stayed watchfull while grilling the steaks, but not at that moment so I'd recommend a lookout if grilling near or after dark. He wasn't aggressive at all but we still took our pictures from up on the deck, thank you. There are other chalets with better views, but this one is great if you want privacy without cars driving right outside your front door or people seeing you in the hot tub. Bottom line, if your after some quiet downtime choose this one and bring your groceries, some movies, some wine, your partner / lookout, and you wont be sorry. We loved it!

We made a friend(squirl)..we fed him! He loves sausage biscut. The hot tub was out dated and and we had to figure out how to turn the jets on were it would be stronger(could use a sign there,we thought for a bit it was just broke)The bed was awsome!!! We want one of those! Will be going back! Soon I hope! The drive way is very steep. If you have four wheel dr take it! But my caravan did make it and its hard to turn around. -

Left on 04/21/2011 for a stay in March 2011
We have always enjoyed our stay in Mt. Laurel rentals. This chalet had a wonderful view and had all the advertised ammenities. But, it also had additional features not mentioned. The day before we left, I personally counted 163 ladybugs (dead or alive) in the house. We had also killed 6 wasps...which means there were many more. I was disappointed in this aspect and suggest the owners take it off of the rental list until this problem is resolved.
Response from Mountain Laurel Chalets - 05/06/2011
Manager
We appreciate the review. Ladybugs are indeed a big problem for us in the mountains. Fortunately, it is a seasonal issue and it doesn't last very long. With the chalets being totally in the woods, it is a constant challenge to keep the critters outside where they belong.

Left on 04/12/2011 for a stay in April 2011
This was a beautiful chalet me and my fiancé stayed in this past weekend. The chalet was way at the top of the mountain and steep hills and sharp turns to get up there. We were late arrivals so going somewhere you're not familiar with made it real Scarey! Once we made it to the top we absolutely loved it. It was so clean smelled nice and the view was amazing! Bear Watch looks better than it does on the pictures. I called customer service that next morning thinking that the hot tub was not working, they came to check it within 2 hours. Turned out to be the jets was closed duh!!! We real had a refreshing and relaxing stay. The next day we went down the hill, went to outlet malls & horseback riding. It is so much to do in Gatlinburg, just didn't have enough time to do it. The drive back up the hill wasn't as bad the next day because we knew where to go...(just as long as no other car was coming). While we was enjoying our time in the hot tub, while listening to music when we got out ...we seen a bear next door knock down the trash can took something and walked on away. Wow!! He was just watching us and probably mad we didn't have any food for him..Thank Goodness.
Loved the stay here and will definitely be back this summer can't say I would stay up the hill in the Winter...

For the price of an area hotel room, we stayed comfortably and were more than pleased with our accommodations in Bear Watch. The hottub was wonderful in the cold weather and helped to relax us after the foggy drive up the dark mountain. Being able to prepare our meals at the chalet saved a lot of money that would have been spent on eating out. Plus, the proximity to Gatlinburg made it easy for us to have a nice dinner out.

Bear Watch is a great destination for a honeymoon or anniversary trip! It's very private and cozy. We enjoyed hanging out on the deck and using the hot tub. The furniture in the living room isn't comfortable, it doesn't allow for stretching out to watch TV. We weren't crazy about the stationary park grill location on the parking area. But overall we had a great time. We saw a bear roam by the deck one evening! There was an early snow late in the week, very pretty!. We've used Mt. Laurel many times over the years, and will continue with them for our Gatlinburg trips, they do a fantastic job with all aspects of your vacation rental experience.

My husband is in school so we had to celebrate our anniversery on the 19th. We have been married 9 years as of Sept. 1 2010.
We had a wonderful time at Bear Watch...played pool, soaked in the hot tub and watched all the wild life at night.
I was worried on day 3 that we wouldn't see a bear but as we were heading back to the house we saw a bear snooping through a neighbors trash. We took some pictures and enjoyed our last night in Gatlinburg.
As everyone has stated the driveway is a bit scary, but if you travel any where in the Smokies there are some scary roads...Duh, it's the mountains!
The first day we were there we started to grill out and noticed there was no grill. My husband called the office and within 1 hour they brought us a new grill.
We were very pleased with the house, quick response to our need and everything about our stay at Mtn. Laural.
We Will Be Back!!!

The "cabin" was beautiful, I mentioned a problem with the stove at check out, and I'm certain it's been taken care of.
The drive up to the cabin was a challenge, and as such we chose not to be out after dark (our choice). I guess we were just up the mountain from Ober Gatlinburg. There was noise of machinery that detracted from the outside enjoyment, not certain you can do much about that!
We had car problems due to the climb, and the staff at the rental office were very helpful to us in resloving that, which we really appreciate. -

We really enjoyed the location of the property. It was a great place for a couple to relax, enjoy each others company and nature. We loved the fact that it had an electric fire place in the bedroom very romantic. We do wish that they had not shut off the gas so early to the main fireplace. The weekend we stayed it got down into the low 40's an really would have love to have the fireplace working. The pool table was fun but a little to close to the wall for a very serious game. I was very happy that the closet in the bedroom was unlocked as we brought most of our clothes on hangers. The location was perfect it only took about 15 mins to get to gaitlinberg. Previous reviews noted that the driveway is steep ..it is. But so are most of the driveways in this immediate area. IT IS THE MOUNTAINS. One of the reason I choose this particular chalet was that for it's views. The views were pretty good. Also, wanted to see a bear in it's natural element. I got lucky an saw a bear from the living room window....very cool. I guess that is why it is called bear watch. They are living very close to you in this area. Overall a very nice place a little updating would make it the perfect place.

Bear Watch is perfect for a couple looking for a private getaway in the mountains... This chalet has everything you need-- just bring your groceries and you won't need to leave for anything! We really enjoyed having a fireplace in the den and bedroom. The view is limited to mostly trees and open sky, but in winter, you will get a glimpse of the ski lodge & skiers. The roads to the chalet, as well as the driveway, are very steep but it did not bother us. We always enjoy staying UP HIGH!
We use "Mountain Laurel Chalets" 1-2 times per year because of their superb service. We will definitely stay at Bear Watch again! -

My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon. I was very excited to see the cabin, but when we got there is was way more than expected!! It was perfectly clean and well stocked with everything we needed for the week. It was great to be able to cook breakfast in the mornings and do our laundry before leaving(great $$ saver if you are on a budget). It had an excellent view of the mountains and of Gatlinburg. We really enjoyed the hot tub, though it had a leak and we had to refill it each night we were there. It stormed there twice while we were there and the windows by the dining table leaked pretty bad. Luckly nothing was damaged.
The driveway was very steap, but we quickly got used to it. Just gun it up the driveway and you will be fine.
I recomend going to the Aquarium and going up the Needle. You get a wonderful view of everything!
Clingmans Dome, which is a look out in the Smoky Mountains, is breath taking! It is a tough walk up, but well worth it. You can get some awsome pictures from there. We loved walking through the town too. You wont get bored, there is always something to do.
As we were about to leave the cabin on our way home we got to see a bear at the end of the driveway!! It was incredible to see a bear roaming in the wild.
We really loved this cabin and plan on staying with Mountain Laurel Chatlets, but this time with our children.
I highly recomend Bear Watch! You will have a wonderful stay here. I wish I was still there =) -

Place was clean except for the dishes, pots and pans. Grease or baked in food on several of the above. Hot tub has a leak and had to be refilled after the first day. Everything else was very comfortable. -

Everything in the cabin was very nice. The fireplaces were great, the pool table was in good shape, and the hot tub/jacuzzi worked well. The view allows you to see Pigeon Forge and some of Gatlinburg. The only negative that I really had was that it is Waaay up in the mountains, about 3.5-4 miles up from the strip. It takes a good 25-30 minutes to get up to your cabin and then back down the hill. This was our first rental so I have no comparison to give regarding any of the other cabins.

Everything was perfect. The bathtub upstairs is very nice and the hottub on the deck was also. The driveway was very steep but we didnt have any problems. The view was good but I would have been nicer to be looking at the mountains. Overall we will probably visit again and we love renting through Mountain Laurel Chalets

This was our Honeymoon and a honeymoon it was. The cabin made me feel like i was at home. Everything you could have wanted in a home was at your finger tips. If you didn't want to leave you didn't have to leave. The food and entertainment was great. Some places even delivered in the mountains. People listen if you want a vacation, or weekend this is the spot to be.

Ever since our first visit to this chalet in 2003, we've looked forward to coming back....which we've already done 4 times and are set to do again this year! This home has been so clean and inviting every time. In 2006, we got snowed in and it couldn't have been in a better place. The pool table, fireplaces, and hot tubs are excellent perks and the view from the top deck is wonderful.
You might want to make sure you have a 4WD vehicle for the way up, though...unless you're feeling adventurous! Motorcycles work well, too, in non-winter months (more road on either side of you on the way up the mountain).
My motto is: Take food up the first time and stay in the chalet until it's time to leave. REST and enjoy a pampered stay.
We love this chalet and look forward to renting it in years to come! -

"Bear Watch" is WONDERFUL!!! I fell in love with nature all over again by just simply stepping onto the balcony! This chalet has breathtaking views and a cozy charm that is so inviting. It's beautifully decorated and well stocked with everything you'll need. I'm sure there are other nice chalets in Gatlinburg, but "Bear Watch" is the one for me!!!!!

This was a very nice chalet. It was very secluded if you are looking for a nice quiet getaway. Very clean and we loved the gas logs in the master. Drive-up and drive way would be difficult with snow.

Getting there was scary - it was pitch dark when we arrived in town and we were high high high on the mountain - and the driveway itself is very steep but once you got over the nervewracking drive - it was lovely. Everything was in like new condition and we had a fantastic time. The only thing that I wish was different was that we were able to use the fireplaces. I did not understand that the gas fireplaces were turned off (in all the chalets) at certain times of the year. But we had a hot tub outside and a large hot tub inside and everything was super nice. We never saw any bears though! We stayed in another one of the chalets priced about the same the following year, and while it was nice it did not compare to Bear Watch.

Chalet was in a beautiful setting with a great view. The amenities were quite sufficient, as we have come to expect from the chalets in the smokies. We have stayed at many chalets offered by Mountain Laurel chalets, and have always been pleased with the properties. We will definitely stay here again.

Left on 10/01/2008 for a stay in December 2007
The house was beautiful and perfect for our honeymoon...we were so excited when we pulled up...the privacy was fantastic. However, when we went to get in our hot tub, there was rat droppings...not exactly romantic!!! Then after our wedding we went up to the bedroom and just laid down in rat poison in our sheets.....and the company had nothing to say about it, and said that they could put us in another cabin, but would still be charged for both. So--we had to wash our bed sheets before we could sleep in them....yes I did LAUNDRY....ON MY WEDDING NIGHT....NOT WHAT I HAD IN MIND!!!! So, I this house is still with Mt.Laurel Chalets, I do not recommend it.

Manager
We are concerned about the problems that you experienced with our chalet “BearWatch”. Please allow us to apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you during your stay. We have notified our exterminator and the owner of the chalet about the mice. In fact, we closed the house down after you reported the problem to our front desk manager the day you checked out and thoroughly cleaned and inspected the bedroom looking for entry points and evidence of mice. We feel confident that the problem was solved.
We accommodate many guests each evening and we strive to make each stay a pleasant one. Please be assured that we go to great lengths to train our staff so that they can provide you with excellent service and make you as comfortable as possible. We feel our business is defined by the quality of service that they provide each and every customer. Because your initial report was in the evening and the housekeeping and maintenance staff had gone home for the day, the only recourse available to our front desk clerks was to move you to a different chalet, which you declined. When it is necessary to move a guest from one unit to another, the rate remains the same, unless the chalet you move to is less expensive, then we would charge less. We would never charge you for both because you were not using both, plus one night during your stay was free.
We hope you will consider visiting us again.

We stayed there for our Honeymoon in 12/2005 again in 10/2006 and again in 4/2008. Guess you can tell we love it there!! We love the covered Hot Tub. It was snowing while we were in the Hot Tub. That was really neat!!
Love the 2 GAS Fireplaces, especially the one in the Bedroom.
We plan on making this our yearly Honeymoon Get A Way.
Highly recommend.
The only thing we noticed this time was that it wasn't decorated as much as it has been in the past. -
