Spent several days over New Years weekend. Loved the view of Mt LeConte. Loved the 2 fireplaces. Kitchen was so well stocked we really did not need our own items we always bring. Our only negatives were the dim lighting in the kitchen and no lighting out at the grill. We always use Mt Laurel for our rental. Everyone is so nice and helpful!

Left on 10/12/2012 for a stay in September 2012
The cabin was pretty nice, and we enjoyed the stay very much. The office was extremely helpful, and we appreciated the hospitality. One improvement that could be done is to put a light near the grill area. We tried to grill after dark, and it was scary and difficult to see what we were doing. Everything we used was in good working order. The big TV was great. The cabin is way up in the mountain, so be ready to manipulate curves and steep inclines. The driveway is almost unmanageable since you turn and then go down at a sharp angle.
Response from Mountain Laurel Chalets - 10/31/2012
Manager
Thank you for staying us. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. We do appreciate the comments you gave and will address the issue of the light for the grill with the owner. Unfortunately there isn't anything we can do about the roads or the driveway. We hope you will stay with us again in the future.

This was one of the best values in a cabin rental we've had so far. We visit this area at least twice a year, and always try a different cabin. we will probably stay here again as this has been our favorite so far. Very nice and very clean. Just be aware that turning around a large vehicle in the driveway is tricky. A car wouldnt be a problem, but my fullsize pickup took a few times to get the hang of turning around.

From the outside it doesn't look like much. Once you get inside it was a very well lit, clean and nice house. Lots of windows, great view. The bed we had was a bit firm, but I guess the other one was softer. A short drive to the local ski lodge with lots of shopping and stuff for young children. The drive up to the house is a bit scary for those of you who aren't used to steep curving roads. Only real complaint was that on our second day they changed the locks. Made us leave one of our keys, the guy that called was rude. They could have waited until after our stay to replace the locks instead of interrupting our stay like that. The office staff was friendly and helpful. If we return to Gatlinburg, it'll probably be through Mountain Laurel again, just maybe a house lower on the mountain. That road kinda scared us.

This was our first trip to Tennessee, searched cabins online with not knowing what to expect. The cabin was clean inside, plenty of room. Enjoyed walking out on the balcony and seeing the actual reason they call the mountains smokey mountains. We had an amazing time. We left our cabin one day to drive 25 miles away to see bears at cades cove but had no luck seeing any, we returned to our cabin later that evening and was surprised to see a momma bear with her 3 cubs come to the back of our cabin. They played for awhile and wonderd off into the woods. That was well worth our whole trip. Will always remember the most fascinating time we had.

The cabin was wonderful...just as it is pictured...perfect view and great accomadations. We truly enjoyed our stay. The staff at Mountian Laurel Chalets were not so great. We forgot to hand them our 30.00 coupon that we had attempted to fax to them prior to our stay and they insisted that we hand it to them so we did not get to use our coupon. When we called and offered to fax it again with proof that it had been printed on the day prior to our stay they still refused to accept it. I think that was trivial and unprofessional. As a business owner myself, a happy customer is a repeat customer and because of that we will not be. Sorry...but the cabin was great.

Chalet is wonderfully situated near the top of chalet village. Overlooks the ski resort with a great view of the tram and mt laconte. I cannot emphasize enough the awesome view of the smokies. Chalet was squeeky clean and check in and out was simple. Very cozy with wood fireplaces and updated 50" flat screen tv. Has a jacuzzi room that is seperate and private. The chalet itself is private and the highlight of the trip was cooking out on the grilll, having a few glasses of wine while glaring out at the magnificent great smokies.

We loved the Lucky D III during our recent stay. It was so big and comfortable. We used the fireplace all day long that Saturday as it was very chilly that morning and it was so wonderful, we kept it going until late in the night. The only thing I could suggest would be to either put in air freshners or ask Mtn. Laurel to go in ahead of time and "air" it out. Since it's an older chalet, it had a bit of a musty smell about it, especially downstairs. But loved our stay and will be back!!

From checking in at the office to checking out, the office employees were very pleasent and helpful. Our rental did not have internet service but we were able to take our laptop to the office and use it there, we needed to check our emails other wise we would have left laptop at home. Upon arriving at Luckey D III the first thing that we really liked is the carport. That was so nice to be under cover while it was raining, then came the snow. We enjoyed that the most. The chalet is very nice looking on the outside, love the lines of the roof, so ski chalet looking. Oh yeah, the view of the ski slopes is very cool. They would really be awsome while covered with snow and skiers. The inside of the chalet was clean and comfortable. I do think that some upgrading is needed in the chalet. The pictures on the wall are so outdated, faded and ugly. The nick nacks are kinda on the same level. Its a really retro type house that just needs some updating. We really did enjoy our stay and of course these things mentioned above did not in any way effect the comfort factor of the chalet. We have already said that we will like to stay here again.

The rental folks were very pleasant and extremely helpful during all stages of our stay. It was evident that the owners take care of the home and pride themselves on making sure that every amenity is available to their renters.

We took a four night weekend at Lucky D III and had a blast. The house was great! Views of Ober, LeConte, and downtown Gatlinburg from the wall of windows on the back of the house kept our attention most of the time we were there. The chalet was comfortable and well stocked. The view was awesome. We loved watching the snow makers at night. Considering it was winter time, the drive was not bad. We did not see any animals during our stay. We had a wonderful time and the office staff was great and made checking in and out very easy. We have always had a good experience with Mountain Laurel staff, and apparently they also have a very responsible housekeeping staff because we left our laptop computer in the chalet and she returned it back to the main office, where we were able to go pick it up.(our special thanks to housekeeping!!!). Our only suggestion concerning the chalet, would be to add more indoor lighting. We would certainly return to this chalet and any other Mountain Laurel properties.

We loved our stay at Lucky D III. It was very nice and clean. We liked our view and the location. There was a manual for all the TV channels and a book containing local restaurants and attractions. They made the visit very enjoyable. We only went out to eat one night because the cabin had everything we needed to make our own food! We would love to come back! Our only disappointment was not getting to see any bears! : )

I made the reservation on line after just looking at pictures and was worried that it wouldn't be all it looked like it was. I was very pleasantly proved wrong ! . Not only were the house and the view just wonderful, the people in the office couldn't have been nicer and more helpful.
I meet a friend every year for vacation and it was a wonderful place to relax and, catch up with each other sitting on the deck looking out at the mountains.
The cabin definitely made this years vacation a lot more enjoyable.

I have to admit when you first drive up it doesn't look like much, but this place was awesome! We had the best time! My husband and I had visited Gatlinburg last year and stayed at a Romantic Hideaway (which was also awesome!) but this year we brought our daughter so we needed another bedroom, Lucky D III was the best choice I could have made. The view was amazing (pictures don't do it justice) the hot tub and the jucuzzi tub were so relaxing. I loved having all the amenties so we didn't have to drive down the mountain too often.

This cabin was really nice and clean, has a nice layout, and many, many nice windows. As always the service at MLC was excellent! The cabin's view was nice, but your eyes are drawn more to Ober Gatlinburg theme park/ski slope than the distant mountains, and you could sometimes hear the hum of the tram car. We had a baby and a small child and I would recommend that you consider these few things . . . the floor creaks a lot, enough to wake the children, and the hot tub is against the railing and unsupervised children could easily climb on it's lid and over the railing. Also, it is very high on the mountain and a longer drive than desired for small children. We did find that the outside driveway area/carport was very safe for children to hang around, and it was nice to have a covered carport.

In the last year we have rented 3 different chalet's through Mountain Laurel, Sugar Booger, Fascination, and Lucky D III. Lucky D III was absolutely our favorite - not to take anything away from the other 2 - but everything about this chalet was great! The view, the comfort, accessability, If only we could have convinced some bears to wander near the chalet (we have yet to see any in all of our trips down). A beautiful view of Mt. Leconte & the Ski slopes @ Ober. It was definitely nice to have a covered area to park the truck too! The only thing I would change is; the bush @ the end of the driveway needs trimmed, you had a very hard time seeing up the road when pulling out, but not a big deal. We will be VERY likely to rent this one again. I missed being there as soon as we left!

Left on 12/02/2009 for a stay in November 2009
Our trip was planned by our good friends Richard and Maria to celebrate their 31 wedding anniversary and enjoy a well deserved R/R together. We had scouted the property at a earlier trip and observed from the road the magnificent panoramic view the chalet had to offer. We booked the chalet for seven days and upon arrival realized the view was more spectacular from inside as well as from the two rear decks. The layout of the house offers both privacy and common places to gather while enjoying the view. From the rear decks you can clerly see Gatlinburg, the ski slopes of Ober and a panoramic view of the mountains. We had read a review by a previous tennant explaining the presence of bears around the chalet.Although we had rabbits, raccons, squirrels and lots of birds around,we were somewhat disappointed by the absence of bears, little did we know our luck was about to change. On our last evening together we were treated to a wonderful surprise.A very large black bear walked casually down the driveway, pass the front door and down the slope to the rear back yard possing for the cameras for at least an hour. Our trip was now complete. We highly enjoy our stay and the amenities in the property .The staff at the rental office was very helpful and professional.PS.bring your swimsuits, the hot top is clean and in excellent condition and offers the greatest view of the mountains after a day in the park.

me and my husband wanted to get away for a few days....it was the perfect place, peaceful, away from it all, nice view, and very quiet.....except for the bears! we had several bear encounters at our chalet. some were in the back yard and some were right on the front porch. momma bear and two cubs. we were scared to come and go the entire stay, because the bears were not just in the woods, they were in the driveway and the front porch. i do not recommend taking out trash until your leaving for good, and definetly dont leave any kind of food or drink in your car. other than that , the chalet was clean, and had all the necessities. any thing you might have needed to cook was available. that was nice, i had never stayed in a chalet before, only hotels, and it was convinent to beable to cook if you wanted to. i would recommend this chalet to anyone, beautiful view of Ober Gatlinburg. just watch out for the bears!!!!!

The service that we received was great as always! The staff make you feel at home. When we first drove up to the home we were in awe. It's simply beautiful. Once we walked inside, we were meet with a stale yucky smell. The house is decorated beautifully. The view was to die for and is very romantic! We spent a great deal of time on the deck. The fridge had a stale smell in it also, and didn't appear to be completely clean, I saw a bug in the freezer. The carpet under the kitchen table, and also under the living room table was very dingy. I didn't enjoy looking at the carpet while eating at the dinner table. The jacuzzi worked fine, and was very nice. My boyfriend however thinks that the chalet was perfect, and didn't mind the carpet or anything else that I mentioned. I will stay with Mountain Laurel again, but not at Lucky DIII. It just wasn't clean enough for me, and the smell wasn't pleasant.

My boyfriend and I had been working really crazy hours. We needed some alone time. I found this property at Mountain Laurel. It looked great! And let me tell you- IT WAS! Yes- it is an older property. But it is in great condition. We loved the carport allowing us to pull within about 10 feet of the front door. Inside is amazing! Upstairs the living room, dining room and kitchen and one of the most beautiful views I've ever seen. Downstairs two great bedrooms, a beautiful marble HUGE shower in the master bath perfect for togetherness. lol. There is a whole room dedicated to the jacuzzi tub. Dim lightsmakes it very romantic. The hot tub was also wonderful.
I am taking my daughter and her friend to Gatlinburg for a week in July. I would love to stay at Lucky D III again. It's booked up for a while. I'll be picking another property. Mountain Laurel is the best! -

We loved this cabin so much that we did not want to leave. We had all the amenities. The view was wonderful. Waking up in the morning to see the mountains out the door was fantastic. Loved the hot tub. So relaxing. What a beautiful home. Everything that we needed was provided. Loved having a washer and dryer. And the shower in the one bathroom had so much power we didn't want to get out of there either. The house is really gorgeous. Feels liked beach house in the mountains. So many windows with great views. We were so far up the mountain that we were literally in the clouds.
Our only drawback was that it rained every day we were there. That was okay though, we sat out on the porch, enjoyed breakfast there and then found plenty to do exploring the different out of the way roads.
I want to thank the owners for sharing their home with us. We WILL rent this one again.

We have stayed with other rental places and were VERY dissatisfied, Mt. Laurel has always been the best. Lucky D has a spectacular view of the mountains and Ober Gatlinburg. We will definitly use Mt. Laurel again.

Great view. Older chalet, but owner's have done recent renovation and everything was well maintained. One exception is the water pump on hot tub is noisy. The chalet has privacy. If you like music it only has a lower end CD player upstairs with no input, thus can not use IPOD. So you may want to bring music component if you enjoy listening to music in the jacuzzi or hot tub downstairs. We enjoyed our stay and hope to return soon.

We loved our stay at Lucky D 3. It suited our needs even though the home is somewhat older. the views were incredible and the home had everything we needed. The only issues we had was with some of the blinds and we felt like it needed more outdoor lighting, but everything else was great. We hated to leave and hope to rent it again and we have never stayed at the same chalet twice in the nine years we have been coming to the Smokies.

Lucky D is a one-of-a-kind paradise.
We enjoyed everything we always wanted in a home with all the spectacular views from all rooms and all the latest enmities. If you stay in the spring like I did, you have the possibility of seeing bear cubs on the very mountain your staying on. No one bothers you and if you go down to Gatlinburg early (8 a.m), you have the whole town to yourself with very little traffic. This Chalet is in high demand so book early.
Our next trip is planned for December. We are hopeing for beautiful winter views. -

This was our first trip to Gatt.Tenn. we stayed at the Lucky D Three Chalet. It was a wonderful way to spend our honeymoon. The house was near the top of the mountain but nestled down for added privacy. You really felt like you had no neighbors.
Everything was in order when we arrived, it was just as pleasant as expected. Equipped with all the basics just as you would at home. Just bring your personal items, clothing, food etc. and your all set to enjoy the view!
We'd definitely recommend this house - especially if you're hoping to see a bit of wild life. We had seen a black bear mother with her three cubs on the first morning and then a decent sized male getting into the trash on the third morning. Would recommend making sure the latch on the cans is locked when you arrive ( the previous people had not done) as you will be waiting until the ol boy finishes his exploration. This male obviously has done this often and even the local school bus didn't shudder his mission. We watched from afar as he delayed us from leaving. It was a nice finish to the trip, no doubt.
We took part in some local sites such as the Aquarium, great video in the underwater tunnel. Would recommend tempting your taste buds at the Chop Shop steak house or better yet at the Apple Barn's restaurant! Beware of their fritters as they are addictive as the apple butter you are surely to want to take home. We spent most our time off the beaten path taking in the scenic areas of nature. Along the streams and trails enjoying the serenity of it all. Wild life is abundant with herrings and geese/goose. You may even find interesting things dating back to times of war for those history buffs. If you like to more of a tourist then you will find plenty of shopping and shows.
On our last day we wrote in the journal book at the chalet. Something we enjoyed reading as night as we wound down each night. I would suggest to the owners to update it to a sturdier book but to keep the stories they have, some are just too much fun not to share.
I hope we get to come back soon and to all who get the chance to share the Lucky D, we wish you peaceful moments with nature that you can take back with you. Draw upon them often and smile.

We had a wonderful time in this chalet, and gorgeous views. The chalet could stand some updates, and get rid of a musty smell, but other than that, it was great!

We always have had nice chalet's when staying with Mountain Laurel, but for the price of Lucky D III, I didn't expect it to be that nice. It was very clean, well maintained, and just a very nice looking chalet with a great view. I would love to stay in it again, but everyone else must know how nice it is, because it is always booked for the time we are trying to come back.

I surprised my wife with a Valentine's Weekend Getaway and we stayed at this lovely property. The view was fantastic. We sat through a tremendous snowfall that almost made us have to extend our stay due to icy roads, but we were able to leave on time. It is nicely accomadated, and offers great privacy.

No Luck with Lucky D III
Lafayette, LouisianaVery Disappointed!!!!
Left on 09/30/2008 for a stay in October 2007
We had high expectations of this rental home. The pictures posted on the web site really looked wonderful and were told by the rental agency that it was one of their most popular homes. We were really excited to be going back to the Smokey Mts and were looking forward to spending family time in the rental. WOW!! were we ever disappointed. The home is old and it had a very distinct musty smell about it. The master bathroom was from another era and the shower stall had black mildew around the bottom and sides of the enclosure. If we would have known then what we know now, we would have never unpacked the van but gone right back down to the rental office and requested another unit. The view from the home was awesome but we spent much of the time on our vacation out and about because we could not stand being in the rental home. I also know next time to ask the age of the home. I'm sorry to say I could not recommend this rental home to anyone. We have stayed and rented homes in the Smokies many times before, this was the first time we were so disappointed.
Response from Mountain Laurel Chalets - 10/10/2008
Manager
Thank you for your comments. The owners of Lucky D III agreed that the downstairs needed to be updated. This spring, they totally remodeled the master bath and it is beautiful! It is much larger than before featuring a luxurious walk-in shower and plenty of dressing room. The second bedroom also has an impressive bedroom suit that is sure to please. You can see pictures of both posted on our website. Lucky D III continues to be one of our most popular units, so book early!

Left on 09/30/2008 for a stay in March 2007
My boyfriend and I stayed in this Chalet in March and absolutely loved it!!! The view is spectacular of the mountains and of Ober Gatlinburg. This chalet is located in a perfect spot. Right on the edge of entering Gatlinburg which makes it easy to get in and out. So many attractions there to do. We tried staying in another chalet the year after and it did not compare to the Lucky D III. I can't wait to come back and stay there!!! Great customer service as well.
