My husband and I stayed in Northern Lights for our honeymoon. It was so welcoming and felt like home! The chalet was so clean. The staff are the sweetest people and they made sure we were taken care of. We first stayed with Mt Laurel Chalets in college and we plan to stay for Christmas every year! This chalet is simply exquisite!

I've been renting with Mountain Laurel for over ten years now. I've never had a bad experience with them, at all. This time was no exception.
Northern Lights was nearly perfect. 2 good sized bedrooms (plenty of room for 4 of us), all of the necessities and amenities you'd want or need in a mountain cabin stay (adequately equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, internet, an indoor and an outdoor hot tub, spacious and comfortable rooms, and a wood burning fireplace), and a view that is to die for, especially from the covered outdoor hot tub or the couch looking out of the floor-to-ceiling windows.
The only complaints, all of which are very minor and would not sway me from renting this chalet again: (1) The hot tub temperature is not independently controlled. You have to call the office to have someone come out and manually adjust it. This can be a little aggravating, as you want to use the hot tub, but you also don't want to keep bothering the maintenance people to make 1 or 2 degree adjustments because it's just too hot/cold to use. (2) The wireless internet was really wonky. 2 separate wireless routers, one password protected, the other not, one day it worked, the rest of the time it didn't...it seemed like a very convoluted/redundant system and didn't make much sense. One of the maintenance guys called the cable company and they blamed an outtage on the position of the earth against a solar flare (even though the cable worked fine). Even he couldn't help but laugh at their reason. Luckily, we aren't the type of people that drive all the way to Gatlinburg just to use the wireless internet, so we got along just fine...but it would have been nice to have it. Instead, we ended up using one of our smartphones as a wifi router, when we wanted to use the internet.
Other than that, we saw 6 black bears at or around our cabin. There's a blueberry bush under the deck that they seemed to love to feed on. All in all, I definitely recommend this chalet! Thanks again Mountain Laurel! -

Thank you for staying with us. We are sorry that the cleanliness was not up to standard. We will certainly address this issue with the house keeping staff. Any time you stay with us and the chalet is not up to par please give us a call and we will send housekeeping back. We hope you will stay with us again in the future.

Hamilton, OHFantastic View! Great Chalet
Left on 08/17/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We stayed with another couple and the chalet was perfect for 4 people. The place was nicely appointed and the furnishings were great. I would have given 5 stars but the hot tub was a little old and cumbersome with the temperature fluctuating. Maintenance was quick to respond so it didn't hinder us that much. The living room furniture was a little dated, but the beds were fantastic. Check in/out was handled very well by the office staff. The roads to the chalet were a little challenging, but after a few times you got used to them. A bonus is the 3 different pools/clubhouses that Mountain Laurel is associated with that allow renters a choice to swim, play tennis, etc. The view from the deck is awesome and sitting out at night and seeing the stars so bright was a real treat. They have a charcoal grill (wish it was gas) for cooking out so that was nice. We did not see any bears but our neighbors had one on their deck the day we were leaving. We would definitely go back and even stay at this same chalet. All in all we had a great stay.

Gonzales, LAGorgeous View/Relaxing Stay
Left on 06/19/2012 for a stay in June 2012
Mountain Laurel is the best and our stay at Northern Lights was wonderful. Everything was perfect and in working order. There were a few missing light bulbs but other than that, all was fine. The chalet was super clean and we had everything we needed. We did not have to call or contact the office at all. The chalet was very spacious, beds were comfy, and the flat screen televisions were a plus. The driveway was a little more difficult to maneuver than other chalets we have rented but it is manageable as long as you don't plan on visiting in winter when it's snowing. You would definitely need snow tires or chains to get up this driveway. Also, there are quite a few steps outside and inside this chalet, so one needs to keep that in mind. Those with disabilities or the elderly may not find this the perfect chalet for them. The best thing about this chalet is the view of the Smokies. It is absolutely awesome. We usually only choose chalets with spectacular views of the mountains. Thank you for a wonderful and relaxing vacation. We will be back soon!!

Left on 03/09/2012 for a stay in February 2012
The house is nice with spectacular view, this is one of those houses that you can set on the deck for hours in the early morning and late evening with the camera. It shows a little age but overall very nice. I would not recommend this home to anyone with mobility disabilities with using stairs. I have rented several houses from Mt Laurel Chalets over the years and have been very pleased with their service, that's why I stay at one of their houses every time I visit and have recommended them to all family and friends visiting Gatlinburg.

We had previously rented another unit, that we realized immediately wasn't what we ware looking for. The Company worked with us quickly to move to Northern Lights, one we had looked at anyway. Great change! Everything we needed and an absolutely beautiful view. You won't' be sorry - to work with this company on any of their selections

We had stayed at Northern Lights a couple years ago and it was exactly the perfect fit. Location, Privacy, View. We went back to celebrate our sevententh wedding anniversary hoping for the same but we were very disappointed in the cleanliness of the Chalet. Looked like someone had just eaten on the couch and chair with all the bread / cookie crumbs, the tub was nasty with hair and plenty of soap scum. And there was a drop off blood on the light switch in the bathroom. We did stop by the office to complain and the managment was going to come up and clean, but just after arriving we were not ready to have the cleaning crew take up our time, so we cleaned it ourselves! My theory is "Do it right the first time"

My wife and I have stayed in Northern Lights 3 times now and we simply love it. The views are fanastic, the hot tub is a wonderful treat, and now they have nice flatscreen TVs in the living room and the upstairs bedroom.
As always, the staff at Mountain Laurel is very helpful!
We are planning our 38th anniversary trip to Gatlinburg later this month and we are seriously considering Northern Lights again. Thanks to the fine people that have this unit on the rental plan and many thanks to Moutain Laurel Chalets for never letting us down!!! -

When we arrived at Mountain Laurel Chalets we were informed that the chalet we had rented was unavailable because the air conditioning unit was out. A previous storm had damaged the unit. After looking at other chalets available we chose Northern Lights.
The chalet had all the amenities we needed from a hot tub to the jacuzzi. Our favorite spot was on the deck enjoying the view. It was so beautiful! -

We thoroughly enjoyed this location except for the fact that the hot tub did not work and that was what my husband was most looking forward to. There was also a bee's nest somewhere around the hot tub and we were prevented from going outside much because they were very territorial. The house itself was wonderful!!

We vacation often in The Smokey Mountains. We always try to stay in Mountain Laurel Chalets. The service is excellent and is always excellent. Everything in the chalet worked fine and was clean. The parking was easy and flat making it very easy to unload. The best part of this chalet is the great view. The only thing we did not like was turning in the driveway. It is a little tricky coming from one way but it really was not that big of a deal. Excellent. Thanks Mountain Laurel and Northern Lights.

Left on 11/30/2009 for a stay in November 2009
We received great service, as usual. However, we felt the chalet needed some
attention. The decor needs updating. There's a window broken above the
jacuzzi. The door to the deck is extremely hard to open. Once you get out,
you think you're locked out. TV;s are outdated with poor reception. The steps
are extremely dangerous - they have no railing and they are slick. These are
just some things that can be easily corrected. But we felt at $150.00 a night,
it should be better. We, however, enjoyed our stay. The mountains are
gorgeous. We may look for another chalet next time. Thanks, Mountain

Left on 09/10/2009 for a stay in September 2009
My wife and I came to Gatlinburg for Labor Day weekend with our two best friends. The four of us wanted to stay someplace quiet and relaxing, so after doing some online searches, we rented a chalet from Mountain Laurel. We opted for Northern Lights for 3 nights, and we couldn't have been happier with our experience there. The house is very clean, spacious, quiet, and relaxing. The view from deck is breathtaking! We also loved hanging out in the hot tub each night. The driveway leading up to the chalet is pretty steep, so if you come in the winter, make sure you have the right vehicle. Overall, no complaints from us. We had a very nice time. We'll definitely rent from Mountain Laurel again and would stay in Northern Lights.

Left on 03/25/2009 for a stay in March 2009
Lovely...I used to stay in all the hoopla of downtown Gatlinburg. I loved it, and wondered why anyone would want to stay anywhere else...until I stayed in the mountain chalet.
Watching the mist rise from the mountains or seeing the stars twinkling brightly at night, was an unexpected gift. Not to mention how much better my coffee or cooking tasted, as we dined out on the deck. Maybe I just like all the beauty and peace better than the hoopla, after all I could be back in that energy in about 10 minutes... The chalet is a quiet, lovely background for the treasure of just being, not doing... -

Left on 01/22/2009 for a stay in January 2009
We had a wonderful weekend but the snow did not come till we were leaving. If it is snowing, bring a 4 wheel drive. We did see a bear around the vehicles when we were getting ready to leave the cabin next door to head to our house. When he heard us he left without problems. If you have friends renting a cabin you should do like we did and have them stay next door. You will share a secluded driveway and can visit real easily. The hot tub was really nice to relax in and we kept the fire place going all the time. We really had a great weekend. It is more like a house than a cabin but we still enjoyed it.
