This was the 3rd time we have stayed in this chalet ...the view is the best !! Such a comfortable home and so neat and clean ! Fireplace is wonderful which keeps my husband very busy since we dont leave the chalet at all ..we go for pure relaxation which means fire from waking up until bedtime and i am a happy lady for sure ! Kitchen is well stocked with what you need even though i take a few nonstick cooking supplies which makes it easier for clean up . Was a bit hard to find the first time we stayed since we didnt arrive until after dark but now we go right to it and its not as complicated as we made it out to be . When you go just be prepared to fall in love with the view because it will take your breath away !! Amazing !!!

Third time here. Beautiful chalet with beautiful view. Excellent service by MLC staff. Don't like the new firewood policy - one of the drawing cards in the past was a plentiful supply of firewood delivered to the chalet. Would recommend to a friend, but still don't like the firewood policy. Other chalet companies still offer free delivered wood at comparable rates so we may consider other venues for future trips to G'burg/Pigeon Forge.

Left on 08/24/2012 for a stay in August 2012
I have used Mountain Laurel Chalets for about 15 years, this is by far my favorite chalet. Photos do not do it justice, you must see for yourself. It is Viewtopia! The chalet has a panoramic breathtaking view of the National Forest. Other than the mind blowing view, the next best feature is two master bedrooms on opposite ends. Every single room including the gameroom has a majestic view.
The fun part is finding the chalet, sort of an adventure getting up there and the reward is a wonderful, very clean, comfortable, zen inducing abode. We spent much time on the huge expansive deck watching sunrise, sunset, stars at night, and of course soaking in the hottub.
I usually like to get secluded when I visit Gatlinburg so we stopped for groceries and did most of our meals in the chalet. Kitchen is stocked with plenty of essential cookware and dinnerware. Everything you need is provided, dish soap, towels, paper towels etc. The office is just a short drive away if you should need anything replaced. There is a washer/dryer so I brought single packs of Tide and Bounce with me, nice to have all my clothes clean when I get home! You may think you are not going to wash clothes on vacation but when my little guy spent way too much time playing in a stream it is nice to be able to throw muddy socks in the wash.
I have read the other reviews, and as far as the furniture being worn, I think it has since been refurbished. Couches recline, loveseats recline and have the cupholders. Very nice for kicking back and relaxing after strenuous hikes. The decor was perfect. I have staying in some chalets where the decor was best described as cloying. Viewtopia was just perfect in every sense.
Bears. Yes you will encounter bears. After all you are in their territory. Inside the chalet is a binder with instructions, maps, trail info and a section on bears. Please read it and respect the bears. Do not feed them. We saw bears every day of our stay. Enjoy seeing the bears but do not do anything to lure them to you. Your trash should be disposed of properly and gets picked up every morning. The injuries that do occur in the mountains are because people were careless and stupid.
When you rent the property the company will send you an email with a list of what you will need to bring with you. Read it carefully. You will have use of the Owners Club pool facility so bring beach towels. You are just a few mile drive from downtown so if you ever do need anything you can always visit a store. You are minutes away from Walgreens, CVS, and thirty minutes from Wal-Mart.
I enjoyed the quiet solitude, stunning views, peaceful time with husband and son. I don't get to enjoy outdoors very much in my day to day life so it was wonderful to be out on the deck to picnic or just read in a rocking chair. Getting out of the rat race was priceless. Usually we like to rent a different chalet everytime we visit but I think we would definately go back to Viewtopia!Response from Mountain Laurel Chalets - 10/11/2012

Mountain Laurel Chalets always delivers exactly what they describe in their chalets. Viewtopia has a view that made us look forward to returning to the chalet after a day of hiking and enjoying the beautiful park. I think I could have stayed right there all day on the deck and been satisfied. The chalet itself has everything you could want. It is not hard to get to. The driveway is level with genorous parking. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils, dishes, and pans. The bedrooms were comfortable, both have huge ensuite bathrooms with jacuzzis. The only thing that could have been better is the living room furniture is pretty worn. The reclining sofa and loveseat are uncomfortable if you are not reclined. But really that will not stop me from returning here to look at that view while enjoying the hot tub!

This was out third time staying in Viewtopia. The view of the mountains is fantastic! We loved to sit in the living room and just look out the huge picture window and watch the clouds go by. We have been there during a storm and watching the clouds move darken and move in and out and the fog come in is quite entertaining. It's very comfortable to be in a rocking chair on the porch. Viewtopia is a very relaxing and wonderful place to be! We don't know how anyone would not enjoy their stay there.

This place truly is a magnificent place. My bride and I stayed at Viewtopia for our honeymoon and I was everything we hoped it was going to be. Breathtaking view, spacious living quarters, entertainment...we could not have been more pleased. The office was nice and professional and you cannot beat Mt. Laurel's prices anywhere. It's not hard to get to and you are not far away from downtown Gatlinburg; only about a 2 mile (as the crow flies). My wife and I strongly recommend this place to anyone looking for a wonderful stay while visiting the Smokey Mtns. We will definitely be returning!!

This was definately one of the most enjoyable trips we have had in Gatlinburg. This is, by far, the greatest place to stay. The Viewtopia's view is like no other. Looking out at the mountains from the back deck, is like a view of what Heaven will be like - so beautiful. The decor and cleanliness of this unit is also like no other. We really enjoy staying with Mt. Laurel, yu are very accomodating and friendly. Thank you.

The chalet was absolutely beautiful. We came for Thanksgiving weekend and had Holiday dinner in the Chalet and it was so beautiful and peaceful. We saw the same Momma Bear and her 2 cubs each day. They were always around the chalet. It was a wonderful experience to get so many pictures of them.
I enjoyed staying and would recommend this chalet to everyone.

Over all the house was great. Pictures on the internet can sometimes be misleading. We were not dissapointed. Even though we only used one of the bedrooms we loved the tub and shower in our bathroom. Bed was very comfortable. Loved the windows in the bedroom and all windows in the house. It brings the mountains inside. Kitchen was very adequate. The living area was very comfortable with the recliners and couch. Enjoyed many games of pool upstairs in the loft. Now lets talk about the fireplace and hot tub. Please don't ever change the woodburning fireplace to gas logs. That was what sold me on the house. Nothing like a good fire. Built one every morning and evening. Worked perfect. And the hot tub was great. Spent every evening watching the stars and some mornings having our coffee. Did not want to leave. I have already reccomended the chalet to friends and coworkers. We will be renting Viewtopia again and again. Thanks for a wonderful 4 night stay.

Had a wonderful stay. The house was great. View was tops. Hot tub was fun as well as the little raccoon who tried to join us when we came back in the house after we were done. Someone must have been feeding him to make him so friendly, which is not a good thing for the little guy long term. Other than a few cob webs here in there, the house was clean and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

We have stayed with Mountain Laural Chalets, and cannot say enough about their service. On the rare occasion (with other homes) that we did have a problem it was checked out and fixed at once. All you have to do is ask.
This chalet is very nice and organized with a bedroom on each side of the livingroom, dining room, kitchen areas. It has a very open feel to it, and the view has to be seen. It is as if you could just reach out and touch Mt LeConte. We were able to see Clingsman's Dome, so bring a scope or binoculars. The Gatlinburg Bypass is at the bottom of the hill in front of the chalet. You cannot see the cars, but can hear them. This was not a problem for us at all, and am sure it would not be for most people. It is in no way noisy. Warning - this one books up fast, so get your reservation in. -

Left on 08/10/2010 for a stay in July 2010
Overall we had a very pleasant experience in Viewtopia. This is our third rental with Mountain Laurel Chalets and we have had no trouble in any way.
The view was spectacular. The living room was very comfortable and the size was just right for our group of 4. The air conditioning was more than up to the task of handling the temperature in the high 90s. Nicely furnished kitchen.
We only had a couple of minor complaints with the property. When the reclining sofa was reclined it revealed that no one had vacuumed under the furniture in quite some time. As some of the other reviews have stated, the property does have new mattresses. I have back problems and I found the new pillow top mattresses to be very uncomfortable.
Overall, we had a very pleasant experience and will definitely rent from Mountain Laurel again. -

Knoxville, TNDISAPPOINTED IN A FINE PLACE
Left on 02/17/2010 for a stay in January 2010
We have stayed with Viewtopia under Mtn. Laurel Chalets several times and had a great time. The home and view are spectacular. We did have a maintenance issue that was not handled satifactorily. Our hot tub (a must in colder January) leaked like a sieve - it poured out as fast as one could fill it. It was reported on the first morning we were there. The maintenace man filled it and left note that it would be fixed on Monday. Big deal - we were out of there by Sunday! I tried to keep refilling but it leaked out too quickly to heat. Bottom line: no tub, and no adjustment to our bill for a must and paid for amenity. I called on Sunday a.m. and was asked if I had reported the problem! Insult added to injury. It appeared that the leaking problem was created by failure of management to prevent the tub plumbing from freezing.
In addition, the provided firewood was so green, all the lighter fluid, etc., could not keep a fire going more than 5 min. So, for the very 2 winter features you count on, no deal. We wrote our complaints up on the customer service form and left it. We never heard from Mtn. Laurel. Result: we move on to another management company that responds to serious issues of their guests.Response from Mountain Laurel Chalets - 03/26/2010
Manager
We regret that you had problems with the hot tub at Viewtopia. Just prior to the time of your visit, the temperature had not gotten above freezing for two weeks, which is a very unusual situation for us. With the hot tub being on the outside deck, there is no way to insulate it from the extreme cold and the plumbing was compromised and started leaking. As for the firewood, it is also outside in the elements and tends to stay damp in the wintertime (especially the soggy winter we had this year). Sometimes, our guests will bring a load to the entry deck or even inside to dry out before using. We apologize for the inconvenience this caused you.

My husband & I came to GSMNP to hike for a week. I spent a lot of time looking for an awesome place for us to stay since we were going for a week. I was not disappointed in this place! The view is as awesome as the description says it is. The home is very comfortable, and the owner has stocked the kitchen with all utensils and gadgets you need. I loved waking up in the morning, opening the blinds and laying in bed watching the sun come up over the Smokies. We hiked during the day, and when we came back in the afternoon, we were so comfortable there, we only went out for dinner 2/7 nights. We hated to leave the chalet after hiking all day. Left on 07/31/2009 for a stay in July 2009
We absolutely loved Viewtopia and all its ammenities including the fabulous view!! The highlight of our stay would have to be the momma bear and her two cubs playing right outside the cabin. The two bear cubs were climbing the tree while momma bear just watched. We, of course, got lots of pictures!
We were very pleased with Mt Laurel Chalets' staff and found them to be friendly and efficient. We will definitely try to book this cabin again on our next return to Gatlinburg. The location was perfect due to easy access into the national park and access around all the traffic in Gatlinburg by going toward Pigeon Forge by way of Wiley Oakley drive. We discovered this route when we got lost. :)
The only thing I could recommend for Viewtopia is some tables outside on the deck by the rocking chairs to put a coffee cup, drink, etc. on while enjoying the view. -

Left on 07/24/2009 for a stay in July 2009
Our family tremendously enjoyed our stay at Viewtopia! The view was awesome!!! Our family spent quality time on the deck in the mornings and evenings.
The Jacuzzi was very relaxing!!!! The hot tub was wonderful!! Our son enjoyed the pool table and our daughter enjoyed lounging in that comfortable bed, watching TV. Also, my husband and I liked that the bedrooms are on opposite sides of the chalet.
We spent a lot of time sightseeing and looked forward to going back to Viewtopia each day. It was incredibly beautiful, clean, and comfortable. I recommend Viewtopia to everyone!
It was thoughtful of Mr. Carter to leave the notebook that he and visitors wrote notes in. We enjoyed reading about others? experiences while they stayed there. We read of the bears that others had seen and saw photos up in the loft. Though we initially didn?t see any at Viewtopia, we did see a couple while in the national park on two occasions. On our last day there, we loaded up our vehicle and were ready to drive down to check out when we saw a mamma bear and her cubs, right down the small hill from the driveway in front of another chalet!! We got plenty of video and photos!
If you are terrified of heights, as I am, you may be concerned about the drive up to Viewtopia. The roads are paved and, though some of the roads do not have guardrails, as long as you don?t look down, I believe you will be fine! I hesitated when making these reservations because of how high up the mountain they said it was but I am so thankful we went with Viewtopia!! Our family will always have wonderful memories of our vacation and Viewtopia made it all the better! The only bad thing about Viewtopia was leaving!!

This house is unreal in everyway. The view is to die for. The hot tub on the deck is great. The houses decor is perfect with a beautiful fireplace and the loft with pool table is great. My wife and I had a great vacation there. We sat in the hot tub on the back deck and watched the fireworks. I can't say enough about this spectacular house. I only have one suggestion and that is for a couple of tables to go with the rocking chairs(need a place to set my drink). If I could give it a 10 star rating I would. The staff is also very kind and hard working. We are going to return to this house every year. It's GREAT!!!!!!!

The pics of this chalet don't do it justice. The view was breathtaking and the chalet was well supplied. It has a secluded feel even though there are other chalets nearby. We enjoyed the hot tub, fireplace, and deck a lot. The eastern bedroom gives an awesome view of the morning sunrise. We will stay in a chalet again instead of in town because of the wonderful experience we had here. My only complaint was that the mattresses and pillows were not that comfortable. We also had great service from the Mountain Laurel folks.

When we decided to go to the Gatlinburg area for several nights, I searched the internet for a best chalet possible. I thought Viewtopia looked totally great in the pictures and was so happy when my husband only saw it when we got there and his expression was priceless. He was so amazed by the view...we wanted to come back again this August or early September but the chalet was booked! We are definitly coming back to this chalet some day.

My husband and I have rented several chalets. We have never stayed in the same one twice. We found Viewtopia to be a wonderful chalet with absolutely beautiful views.
The back deck is a little small and not as private as we like. But we did have a wonderful time. -

We have stayed at several chalets in Gatlinburg. Most of the rentals were with Mountain Laurel Chalets. We won't rent from another company. This chalet was one of our favorites! It was gorgeous, had a great deck, hot tub, and a beautiful view!

When our plans fell threw to take a cruise for our 25th wedding anniversary (due to our daughter's upcoming wedding), my husband and I wanted a quiet get away, the wouldn't cut into our wedding budget. I had been to Gatlinburg before, but my husband hadn't, so we began our search for the perfect chalet in the mountains.
I fell upon 'Viewtopia' through the Mt Laurel Chalet website, and fell in love. The chalet and its view was even more beautiful than what the pictures showed and the price was right.
We had a wonderful weekend just enjoying the open space of the chalet, and the breath-taking views of the mountains from every room.
We definately plan on coming back. -

We have rented this chalet several years in a row. We come every year. We've tried other Chalets, which were great, but Viewtopia is WONDERFUL. The view is pure heaven. All your stress will melt away as soon as you open the front door to the breathtaking view of the mountains. And nights under the stars soaking in the huttub...aaahhh, Viewtopia is a Utopia!!

I really hate to right this good of a review. Only because im afraid it will be booked all the time. I ran into this cabin on mtn. laurel's site and fell in love with the view. It worked perfect for my girlfriend and I since it was available the week we were coming to gatlinburg. The pictures just do not do justice. As soon as you walk in you WILL be BLOWN away. The best part is in the morning when the fog is rising up and you can sit out on the deck enjoy your coffee. Also we had a bear just outside the door the first morning that was very exciting. All in all we are going to be coming back yearly. This time we will bring more people to enjoy this cabin.

This was my 4th stay at viewtopia, and it still takes my breath away when I walk through the front door. The view is so beautiful, especially when a thunder storm comes through the mountains, definately one of gods creations. I have been coming to viewtopia since 1997, and its still very well kept up. Ken is always updating the place. I can't complain about anything except maybe the beds could be alot softer, and even as I write this I feel bad because that is minor, compared to the beautiful place Ken lets us enjoy..We will always return to viewtopia when staying in Tenn. for as long as Ken cont. to rent it out.
Thanks Ken.Response from Mountain Laurel Chalets - 05/25/2009

Good news Lee....Ken has replaced both the beds with New Pillow Top Mattresses. He does take great care of his house and loves coming to the mountains himself. That's lucky for us because everytime he comes, he makes the place even better.

We have visited Gatlinburg every year for the past five years, and we always wanted to stay in this chalet. As soon as we walked through the door, we were impressed by the spectacular view. It is so nice to stay in a chalet because you can stock the refrigerator for your stay and cook your own food. You don't have to eat out as much! This chalet is in a great location if you are planning to do things in both Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. I have even recommended that our relatives stay here when they visit the Smoky Mountains!
