The staff at Jackson Mountain Homes was very courteous and helpful in getting a great deal on a wonderful cabin. The cabin was very cozy and comfortable. The cabin was full of amenities and cooking or grilling out was simple all you need to bring is the food you wish to cook everything else is provided. Had wonderfully relaxing crackling fire every night and fire wood was provided at no extra charge in a neat little wood shed right outside! The provision of firewood alone would definitely change whether i would choose a particular rental and this one fit the bill! This cabin is way up there and takes about 18 safe minutes to get to and from when driving into Gatlinburg. This cabin is slightly over the altitude of the Ober Gatlinburg ski resort and sits at approximately 3,200ft above sea level. However the views during the drive in both day and night are breathtaking. During our stay there were no leaves on the trees giving clear views of both Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge city lights at night while driving to the cabin. The cabin views were nice and wooded but do not allow you to see the city lights at night yet you can see the lights and ski lifts at Ober Gatlinburg. Overall the cabin was clean and very cozy with game room and hot tub. The only complaint I could offer is the hot tub had some jets that did not work and it needed some minor repair to replace those jets, but the water was clean and you could tell they service the water regularly between renters. Will definitely rent this one again! Read more
Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at Cherokee. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed it! We apologize that you experienced a problem with some of the hot tub jets and will have it serviced right away. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and your understanding. Thank you for your kind words! We look forward to seeing you again soon!

The cabin is beautiful, very comfortable and very nice decorated.
The only issue we had was the location, we don't have a 4WD and one day we couldn't get to the cabin due to the snow.
We stayed in a hotel.
Thoughtful Rental Property

This home has a brilliant layout and it's obvious that the owners have put a lot of thought into what a guest may need. For example, snow shovel by the front and back doors and towel hooks by the hot tub.
Cherokee also has high end appliances and the kitchen uses every bit of space wisely.
The location is a steep climb up the mountain, and can be challenging in bad weather, but it's very convenient to Gatlinburg and the entrance to the Smoky Mountains. This is an excellent spot if you want to avoid the horendous peak season traffic in Sevierville and Pigeon Forge.

An extreemly nice cabin perfect for a honeymoon, second honeymoon or a family get away. The place is decorated and cared for like a home. The setting is beautiful and we had deer walking by the lower deck while eating on the upper deck. The kitchen is granite and stainless steel with a very romantic master bedroom/ loft. The garden tub looks out a bay window with a beautiful view of the mountains and stars. It is on top of the mountain. I would love to owne this place and just live there. I have never been to a nicer cabin.

Not worth the rental
Left on 08/22/2013 for a stay in August 2013 | Disappointed
While Cherokee has a nice view and good location, the cabin needs additional updating. The cabin looks like it was built in the late 70s or early 80s and only the kitchen and downstairs game room have been updated. The slightly musty, stale odor greeted us when first entered the cabin as if the cabin hadn't been opened in weeks. There were cobwebs in corners and dust on the fake flowers and plants. The decor is rustic grandma; some might consider quaint, I thought sad. The king bed in the upstairs loft bedroom sagged. Hodge podge of leftover pots and pans from tenants past or from the owners with mismatched lids. Rusted out charcoal grill you would buy from Big Lots, no grilling tongs, DVD player in gameroom was not wired to the TV. Just a lot of little things that added up to poor maintenance and a lack of attention of detail and daily annoyances for us. Certainly not worth the more than a $1,000 rental fee for five nights. Jackson Mountains never called to follow up with us the day after. Very average customer service. I would not rent this cabin again. Read more

Weeks worth of fun with family

Cabin and road as described in reviews. Bear with 2 cubs visited us one day and jumped inside neighbors' workers truck and took his lunch. Modern appliances are nice, beds are comfortable. Cabin build is large timbers. WiFi enabling X-box Live helped kids feel at home. Neighbor to right off deck is close (~30')but we never really heard or saw them. Trees in summer put up a good block on them, but trees are cleared for view. Cabin to left (JMH cabin)is a few hundred feet away blocked by trees. View is not a mountain range but rather Ski Mountain. It has a quiet, secluded feel and you are at wilderness' edge. Rain, mist, and clouds come and go. There are no cabins below you and I believe this is 3rd highest cabin on Ski Mountain. Bbq pit on deck at kitchen level where it should be. Hot tub on lower deck had some controls not working which was not a problem but I reported to get fixed after our stay. Nice that there was a clearing below the cabin where you can expect squirrels, bear, and deer to pop out any moment. Amazing the lack of bugs at night compared to my Louisiana home. Drive up to cabin is a taxing 10 minutes from Gatlinburg last street light (#10). Easiest to take Ski Mountain road then begin the fun from last left before Ober gate. From here it gets steep, narrow(two cars can still pass), without dividing lines or rail, and few lights. Gps Garmin worked but it may tell you to turn left when the road veers left and for instance St Moritz has a Drive and a Court (Courts are dead ends). First time I got turned around a few times. I was more worried about my car's wear and tear from climbing which I used low gears up and down. I am a thrill seeker (47yo) and still the ride up never became second nature. Large cars with long hoods or scary drivers not recommended! I will rent again with JMH as the whole experience was based on ease and customer satisfaction. I saw other cabins with better views but many had less seclusion and lack of nature.
Great for our Honeymoon
Left on 06/24/2013 for a stay in June 2013 | Just Married!
My wife and I stayed in Cherokee for our honeymoon and it was awesome! Everything was as advertised; the cabin was in phenomenal condition and very clean. It looks exactly like pictures -- even better in person. Everything worked perfectly as well! My big concern was the drive and while steep, after the first time up and down it was no problem at all.
Very rarely did cars pass us either way on steeper points. Also one "con" if you can call it that was because this is an homeowners cabin who rents through JMH, the homeowners (I'm guessing) are responsible for what's in the cabin.
A slight problem was no iron/iron board for us. While we did bring lounge clothes being our vacation there were times we "dressed" up and would have liked to iron our stuffy clothes that were in a bag all the way from Louisiana.
Other than that, again just awesome! I read all reviews before renting and they all seemed to hit it on. Again, the drive isn't that bad. Beware that there are 2-3 very steep roads, but you will get used to it.
We will definitely stay with JMH and most likely Cherokee again if we go back to Gatlinburg!
My Birthday getaway

We chose a mountain getway for my 50th birthday because we love the area and wanted a quiet getaway. We absolutely loved our stay at Cherokee. The cabin is homy and comfortable and decorated so cute. Loved the views from the deck and it was nice to sit out there out night or in the hot tub. The only thing I didn't like was the drive up but after a few times of going down for trips to Gatlinburg and the mountains and coming back up I got more used to it and it was worth it to be up and away from everything. I would definitely stay here again.
Loved the cabin...hated the drive.

After a harrowing trip up the mountain to the cabin, we were pleasantly surprised. Cherokee is more than we expected. The on-line pictures do not do it justice because the kitchen has been recently renovated and has beautiful new cabinets and counter tops with new stainless steel appliances. The cabin is charming, neat, and clean. It was well stocked with everything needed for cooking. We enjoyed the hot tub, wood-burning fireplace, and pool table. As much as we enjoyed our stay I would not stay there again because of the scary drive up and down the mountain. It would be difficult to navigate in the dark. And while the view is nice it's not a true smoky mt. view.

Everything was perfect from the moment we checked in (easy and quick): the cabin was better than we expected. Very clean, beautiful views and felt like home. We stayed here for the labour day weekend. The cabin was great. There is one room at the entrance level - which was perfect for my mom who has problem with her legs and taking stairs. The kitchen area is just big enough for a small family - other than that the cabin was wonderful. Great view, especially from the room upstairs. Be prepared for a steep climb to the cabin, but easy to navigate. On the morning of our checkout - we saw 3 bear cubs with their mother right behind the cabin. They hung around for more than an hour - perfect end to the vacation. will surely be back.

We were looking for a cabin that offered seclusion, while still close to the park entrance, and Cherokee succeeded in doing this. Although Gatlinburg is OK, my wife and I wanted most of all to avoid driving though each day on our way to the park. Our purpose was to hike during the days and relax in comfort during the evenings...and boy did we need it! Cherokee provided all the comfort and space we wanted and was very nicely decorated. We were pleased that everything was well kept. Although, I did have to call JMH to find out how to adjust the hot tub (no instructions)...found out you just keep pushing the temp button...thanks JMH for the help. Also, it would be better if the back deck had more privacy. Fortunately, nobody stayed in the other two cabins and we had the whole area to ourselves. Thanks again, JMH and Cherokee for great stay!

This is the second time we have used Jackson Mountain Rentals in the past year and we love their service and selection of chalets. The Cherokee was perfect for our needs as a family of three. The layout of the chalet had a great flow and the decor was beautiful. We liked the idea of the main bedroom right next to the front door and the fact that our daughter had her own space and bathroom upstair from us. It was ideal! We loved the fact that the gameroom and laundry were downstairs, as well as the deck to the hot tub. It was nice to have that separate from the main living area. The only thing I can say to make this rental a little better would be to have a half bath on the lower level. It would make it easier especially while using the hot tub. The view is beautiful!! You can see the top of Ober ski lift. You can also hear and see(at the right time of year)the people riding down the slide at the Ober. It is all right in your backyard. Really cool!! The sunsets are breathtaking as well!! Be prepared for a long steep climb to the top. This chalet is near the top and is very close to the border of the Smoky Mt. Park. It is worth the climb!!! We will continue to use Jackson Mt. Rentals and we will will most likey stay at the Cherokee in the future!!

The windy roads to the cabin is scary, but it was worth it. Was a little bite learly about the cabin be surrounded by other cabins, but once we got inside it was not an issue any longer. You still had privacy. This was our second time staying in a Jackson Moutain home and we are so glad we did. We enjoyed ourself. The decoration that the home owner put thought in was great. It was so inviting. Loved the rocking chairs with throws that you can use to keep you warm. The homeowner thought of everything. The furntiure was very comfortable. Over all it was fabulous and will go back again to stay loner next time.

We had a great time on our trip, and the Smoky Mountains are beautiful. The cabin was comfortable, clean and had all the amenities of home. We spent a lot of family time playing games and playing pool, the kids really enjoyed having the pool table. Watching and listening to the sounds of nature, grilling every night and relaxing on the deck made for a wonderful trip. The bears were a little frightening at first, but we learned to appreciate them a far and enjoyed watching them. The one negative we had was the drive up and down the mountain. It was scary and we never really got used to it. The cabin is in a good location. Close to parks, hiking, and downtown Gatlinburg. Thank you for a memorable vacation.

The cabin was beautiful. But the drive up to the cabin was stressful. The street signs were not easy to read because they were angled so was uncertain on some of the streets. We took a wrong turn and since the directions we got only had streets to tell us how to get to the cabin it was difficult to find our way. I was extremely nervous every day we travel to and from the cabin. Therefore we left a day early. Wished we were able to have are full stay. We would have liked to be more informed about roads and no cell phone service. Read more
Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at Cherokee. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the cabin. We understand how stressful driving in an unfamiliar area can be, especially for those who are not accustomed to driving in the mountains. Each of our reservationists are familiar with the location and roads of each cabin and are happy to recommend a cabin based on each guest's specific needs/concerns.
Being in a such a heavily wooded and mountainous area does cause cell service to be spotty; however, each cabin is equipped with a landline phone and we provide that phone number to our guests. We are sorry that the location of this particular cabin did not meet your needs and hope that you will choose Jackson Mountain Homes in the future.

This was our second stay in a Jackson Mountain property. I called them looking for a nice, but inexpensive cabin to rent. Lynda found just the match!
Cherokee is listed as a one bedroom cabin, but really is two. The bedroom loft is open, but still has enough privacy. The square footage for the price was exceptional when compared to cabins renting for much more.
I will tell you it is a bit of an intimidating climb to reach Cherokee. But it is worth it! (after your first trip down to town and back up, it's a piece of cake). The cabin, as with all Jackson Homes, has everything that you need to feel right at home.
It is well furnished and decorated beautifully. The main floor has a roomy living room with TV and a deck off the dining area. The kitchen is well equiped. The Master bedroom on the main floor is large with its own full bath. Upstairs is a loft bedroom also with its own full bath. There is also a garden tub in the bedroom with a large window for a breathtaking view. There is cable with wifi throughout.
Downstairs is the washer and dryer, pool table and flat screen tv. You have another deck that has the hot tub and another breathtaking view.
There are cabins close by, however, you feel as if you are the only one on the mountain.
All in all, it was a great time for my husband, me and our 11 year old son. I highly recommend Cherokee. How can you go wrong when you go with Jackson Mountain Homes.

The cabin was well equipped and was very well represented by the website. Overall a nice set of amenities including not only the hot tub and pool table, but good size tv's in nearly every room and internet access. Good views off the back decks while Bbqing in the evenings added to the fun. We saw several Black Bears (one large one in front and one small one in the rear) during a three day stay. After hiking on nearby trails, we relaxed at the cabin each night, cooking in the well stocked kitchen. Overall a great experience for our first time in the Smokies and one one that I look forward to repeating.

We did however go up to Newfound Gap and Cades Cove to try and see a Black Bear, we didn't see any, but the last day we were at the cabin, a bear came right out of the woods and in the little backyard of the cabin while we were in the hot tub. We took several pictures of him walking around the yard. This was the most romatic weekend a person could Imagine, the decor of the cabin made it complete and possible.
