It is easily acessible on a private lane with level parking. As soon as you walk through the door, you are greeted with a spectacular mountain view. Your blood pressure drops and you immediately feel relaxed & refreshed. Who could ask for more?

Had a wonderful time. The only thing that went bad was the icemaker. We were excited to see a bear only 10 feet from the front door. He appeared as we were unloading our cars when we first arrived at the chalet.
It was great to see the bear. The grandkids will never forget it...a great place to stay !

We have stayed at Mtn. Laurel Chalet's before and were always pleased. Bear Butt Bluff was absolutely wonderful!! When we walked through the front door we were just in awe of the amazing view of the Smokies. We couldn't ask for more. Everything was absolutely wonderful!! Last year we stayed at Cottage View for Two and it was the most amazing chalet ever. The service with Mts. Laurel is spectacular. We will definitely be back and will always check in with Mtn. We enjoyed staying at Bear Butt Bluff, it had everything we needed. The view was out of this world. It was exciting to see the many different animals that came to play around the Chalet. The big black bear with her three cubs was really a treat. Yes, I would stay at Bear Butt Bluff again.

The only suggestion is an upgrade to the TV and sudio-system.
A Philly Family
Exceeded Our Expectations
Left on 07/11/2011 for a stay in June 2011 | A Philly Family
Our family had a wonderful experience. Like most consumers I think we were prepared for the pictures and descriptions to not live up to their billing. Yet, everything was just as advertised and, as many said in the reviews we read, the view was even more breathtaking than you could imagine. And it's not just the camera angles that make the main room look vast, it really is that spacious.
The folks at Mountain Laurel were great, too. We arrived late due to an unexpected detour in our travels and check-in was still extremely smooth. We had one problem with a toilet and it was serviced within 15 minutes of our call to the main office.
Tips: Learn the back route down to the village that does not go by the office. It's much quicker. Unless you're headed to the National Park or Cades Cove for the day. You'll gain some extra time in the village by taking this route and cut out about 6 turns.
As with any tourist town, the food can be hit or miss. The Mellow Mushroom, despite the appearance of being just sort of another sports bar that offers dining, had great food.
Concerns: The pool table could use a resurfacing. Not a big deal to those who will spend most of their time outside of the chalet but we took full advantage of the feature with our kids.
The directions to the hot tub were not to be found. There was a list of what not to do but you'll have to do some problem solving to figure out how to get the temperature up. We didn't end up using it much because the jacuzzi tubs in each bathroom provided plenty of luxury.
Although it was a nice surprise to learn that there are actually 3 club houses that you can use during your stay. We decided to try one that the closest to Bear Butt Bluff because we were told it included a fitness center. The place was an absolute pit. Of course, Mt. Laurel is sharing this space with the multiple other companies in the area but had that been our first stop, we might have turned around. Perhaps the one closer is nicer.

Recently we stayed here and the view was spectacular. what you see on the website is what you get. I loved it. I guess the only suggestion I would give is to get a big screen TV. I considered that a minor thing but overall no complaints. I would stay there again in a heartbeat. I only stay at Mpuntain Laurel chalets.

Overall the experience was amazing. We loved the view. Most amazing view ever! But we think that it needs to be a little updating with the tvs and vcr/dvd players.. non of the vcr/dvd players worked while we were there but it was ok we had a great time hanging out on the covered deck looking out at the view. The hot tub was great! We would love to come back and stay again just because of the view it had!

Let me start by saying that we have been staying in Bear Butt for the past 10 years or so. The chalet is always very clean. And we love staying here. However, we do feel that for the price, the t.v.'s, and stereo system could use some updating.

When you reserve a chalet through a website, you really never know what you will really end up with. This was especially a concern as we had never been to Gatlinburg and didn't know the lay of the land.
But I must say this place was much better than even the best reviews. Nicely furnished. Good amenities. Very clean. Nice size.
The absolute best feature is the view. On the top deck which runs the entire width of the house, your entire vision in taken up with an incredible view of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. You can see a few other buildings out in the far distance, but everything else is nature in its most glorious form! The lower deck has the hot tub and a little more secluded view, but still amazing.
We went with kids who really enjoyed our "mountain house" for the week. We turned the hot tub heat down and the kids loved playing in their little pool. In fact, we never made it to any of the facilities offered by the property management.
One word of advice, there are two ways to get to the house. One comes off the main road north of Gatlinburg one comes off the main road south of Gatlinburg. Given all the traffic downtown, the north road was much more convenient if you wanted to get to Pigeon Forge. I just wished we figured that out early enough to take advantage of it.
In closing, if the view is the most important thing, there are very few properties that can beat this chalet!

It was our third trip to Gatlinburg and our first "cabin rental" We kept calling it a "cabin" but it is way more! Views are spectacular and beds where very comfortable. The tv's could be upgraded, but we really weren't there to watch tv. Evenings in the hot tub was a great way to un-wind after experiencing the perils of Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge traffic. Tub is a little under powered and doesn't stay hot when 3 or more people are in it. My daughter un-plugged the phone modem - to charge her cell phone of coarse - and naturally the phone didn't work. I called the office and they responded in minutes! I was just a little embarrassed.
All-and-all it was all that I expected and more! I would return to the Bear Butt Bluff in a heartbeat!

We stayed at the Bear Butt Bluff 5 years ago for our honeymoon and loved it. The house is wonderful and the view is amazing. On our second trip, we made the mistake of booking a different chalet...as I was in tears upon our arrival and seeing the chalet, I called the management office and fortunately we were able to switch to the Bear Butt Bluff again. This made the second trip wonderful. So, we just stayed there again for the third time (our 5 year anniversary) and had the same amazing experience. The only issue were a few bugs the first couple of days. But, your in the mountains, of course you will have a few bugs. Love the Bear Butt Bluff!!!

We travel to Gatlinburg every fall and have stayed in many homes. This is by far is the most inviting and enjoyable stay that we have ever had. Hi, I'm a 1st time reviewer but long time TN traveler. When we booked our August 7 day vacation (2 adults, 2 kids, ages 11 & 9) in TN, we read all the reviews and looked at all the pictures of Bear Butt Bluff. What can I say? Folks pretty much nailed it. The drive up to the cabin was twisty, turny, but actually not as crazy as some of the other places we've stayed in the past. We thoroughly appreciated a "flat landing", that is, the house has a flat driveway to park your car. Better than throwing the parking brake on and walking up a steep incline like some houses we past on the way. 5++ stars for the spectacular view -- I'd give it more if there were more stars to give! The place was very clean on arrival. Only minor quibble was that one of the circuit breakers was tripped when we arrived (due to recent storms), so no electricity for 1/4 of the plugs and lights but maintenance came out quickly and fixed it. No other problems with this house let me assure you. One of the 3 swimming pools that the Chalets offer is real close so feel free to use that during the summer if you want. Kids loved saying in their own room w/ TV and we played quite a bit of pool. Internet Access was a +++ for us, we like to stay connected! I would not hesitate to stay at Bear Butt Bluff again. It's that nice. Counting the days until we can return. Book it. You won't regret it.

Where to begin? This cozy little cottage nestled deep in the mountains was a perfect place for an affordable mountain vacation. Though it was a nerve-wracking trip up the windy, narrow roads in the dark, upon arrival, the tension went away.. The house was everything I expected it to be and so much more. The trip started out as a Mother's Day present for my mother but it soon turned into a retreat for us all. The people who received us at the Mountain Laurel rental building were nothing but wonderful, an added bonus to the vacation of a lifetime. The pool table, jacuzzis, and hot tub were the icing on the cake. By far, the best was probably the view.. And the rooms.. Actually, everything was about equally amazing. My least favorite thing about the entire trip was the adventurous journey up to the cabin. I must say, I hope to soon return for another breath-taking trip :)

We stayed for a week with another couple. With it's 2 master suites the house is perfect for 2 coules. The view was fantastic and the house was well cared for and clean. There were a couple of small issues, but as soon as the office was notified they had someone there to fix the problem (including the airconditioner repairman at 6:30 on a friday evening). We would recomend this house to anyone and the service we received from the renting company was great. We look forward to staying again.

This was our first time to Gatlinburg and our first time to rent a chalet.
We loved it. The Bear Butt Bluff was everything we had hoped for plus
some. My husband and I had our 6 and 4 year old with us and we had
a wonderful time. We had a great time playing board games, pool and
sitting in the hot tub. The view was amazing. It was an easy drive. It
snowed quite a bit. I was very surprised how clear the roads stayed.
My only disappointment was that the gas was turned off. It would
have been nice to have a fire in the fire place during our stay.
Thanks again! We will come back.

We have stayed in many chalets, but I must say that this one has one of the best views of any. It was beautiful at night with all the homes lit up in the valley below. It was a little too chilly to sit on the balcony, but no matter, the view from the warmth of the living room was just as good. I might add that the layout of this house was ideal, with both bedrooms, kitchen, dining room, and living room on the main floor. A note to anyone who has not stayed in the mountains after the trees have lost their leaves, it looks like an entirely different place. It is very beautiful with every ridge showing, and breathtaking when covered with frost or a little snow.

We had stayed in Bear Butt Bluff six or seven times prior to
this visit. The view is absolutely stunning and we enjoyed
that incredible view this visit as always, however the last time
we rented this chalet there were some minor maintenance
issues that actually caused us to begin renting other chalets
during our subsequent visits to the mountains. While the
interior is beautifully decorated the dining room chairs all
had broken, wobbly arms. One was in good shape, while the
rest needed some repair work. The whirlpool tub in one of
the bedrooms required a service call from the rental
company (which came promptly to evaluate). We were told
that the unnerving black flakes we found floating in the
water were the result of soaps used in the tubs by previous
occupants. When we tried to use the tub in the other
bedroom we had the same problem. There also had been
some minor damage to the siding that was outside in the
porch area. We were told this had resulted most likely from
recent storms in the area. In general we felt that this chalet
also had not received any significant updates at all in the
between our visits which as I mentioned were quite a few. All
things considered it did not make for the pleasant stay we
had come to enjoy on prior visits to the Bear Butt Bluff Chalet.
It really seemed as if it needed some refurbishing and
attention to the details in order to remain consistent with the
premium rental amount. I would have to say if it had not
been for these issues we would still be booking our visits in
this chalet. I have received this request for a review nearly
two years after this visit and things may well have been
remedied as of this date. I have to say though if they have
been addressed, when combined with the unsurpassed view,
it would make it a five star recommendation once again! Read more
Response from Mountain Laurel Chalets - 01/14/2009
Jim, thanks for the comments. The owners of Bear Butt Bluff are constantly working on their chalet and have indeed addressed all the concerned you mentioned in your review with the siding and the chairs. In addition, they have put new carpet in the bedrooms and on the stairs, paved the drive and made additional improvement to the outside deck area. Because of the time involved in filling the jacuzzis to clean the lines out, it cannot be done between every rental. Our housekeeping department has a schedule for each house to perform this cleaning on a regular basis. We think you would be happy with the condition the owners are keeping Bear Butt Bluff in and hope you will come back to see for yourself.

During the Spring of 2008 my husband was deployed to Iraq...being that I hadn't seen him for a full year I wanted to plan a romantic getaway for the two of us. A friend of mine told me about Mountain Laurel Chalets and so I decided to look them up online. It was so beautifully easy to look through at the different rentals and pick one. Bear Butt Bluff looked idyllic and so I made my reservation. The pictures were beautiful but both my husband and I were absolutely blown away by the breathtaking views, cozy warmth, and romantic charm of this mountain home! It was conveniently close to the Gatlinburg strip and we fully enjoyed our stay. We loved the whirlpool baths, large beds, hot tub, and the pool table was a lot of fun to play a few games on. This home has it all and I hope to bring friends and family to stay there in the future!

We've rented several properties in Gatlinburg over the past 6 years and Bear Butt Bluff was the best and truly outstanding!! The unit was clean, well furnished and, most importantly , the view was terrific - no obstructions, or partial views - simply a clear panoramic view of the Smoky Mountains. Two bedrooms with king beds, a large living room, complete kitchen, an expansive deck with hot tub and outdoor eating area and a lower level with billiards, games and laundry. You won't find anything better in Gatlinburg!
