When you think of the mountains, you think "log cabin". Lucky D Lodge is genuinie log but with modern amenities. From the minute you step onto the covered front porch, you will feel yourself slowing down and moving into "mountain time".
Inside, the exposed wood beams convey a woodsy theme, while leather sofas and large flatscreen television give today's discriminating traveler what they are looking for.
Got kids? They will love the game table in the living room that is a combination of soccer and bocce ball but made for a table top. A reading nook tucked under the stairs provides a quiet respite for the reader in the group. A full bath sits off the hallway and has a second door into the queen bedroom. Across the hall from the bedroom is a private room with a large whirlpool for two and a twin day bed. The stairway leading upstairs lands in the hallway between the two bedrooms (one king, one queen) that share a large bath with a shower.
If you're lucky and it rains, the pitter-patter on the metal roof will lull you to sleep, mountain-style. During the day, you can sit outside on the covered porch and watch the comings and goings on the road below and just enjoy the sounds of nature around you. The hot tub is on a side porch and is also covered so it too can be enjoyed in all weather.
The cabin is located just below the South Baden Clubhouse where swimming and tennis are available during summer, but you will need to drive around to the parking lot to gain access. Another 1/2 mile up Ski Mountain Road is Ober Gatlinburg making Lucky D Lodge one of the closest accommodations to the ski slopes.
You will feel Lucky Indeed when you chose the Lucky D Lodge.

My family always tries to spend time in Gatlinburg at least several times a year. We have had the opportunity to spend every holiday up there and out of the managed properties we have stayed at, my hats off to Mt. Laurel Chalets. Very kind, curtious, pleasing, and always makes sure your stay is enjoyable. We like staying at The Lucky "D" lodge because it's not really high up in and where it is located gives you easy access to downtown.

Checking was fast and friendly, we had a key almost break in the door but was replace with no problem or hassle. The bedrooms were really nice and comfortable. Location was 2 minutes way from Ober Gatlinburg. Hot tub was good we had a garden tub in one of the room. Kitchen was nice, but needs different pots and pans to cook with needed lots of cooking spray.
Great place to stay.

The cabin was pretty but the indoor tub thing would not work quite right, the cabin only had one trash bag in the can and I had to buy some while out. The rd. going to the cabin was rather scary very curvy and steep and my van overheated. Upon paying the final balance one of the older ladies that took my payment was quite hateful to me and she was rude, other than that the cabin was good.

We love the Lucky D Lodge. This was our second stay and the first time going in the winter. The chalet was clean, comfortable, and the kitchen well-stocked. We had a fire in the fireplace every day. We love that firewood is included. We gathered our own kindling, which took little time and the children had fun doing it. The hot tub was relaxing, but seemed a bit over chlorinated. We were itchy after using it, but at least we didn't have to be concerned about it not having enough chemicals. The chalet was easily accessible, even for our 15 passenger van. The boccerball game had a broken tray, but we put a bowl on the floor and still enjoyed playing. I hope the owners can repair it, rather than remove it. Mt. Laurel provided excellent service, always ready to give more towels, toliet paper, or just about anything we needed. There isn't a view, and there are other cabins that are close, but we still felt as though we had plenty of privacy and rarely even saw anyone else. The beds were comfortable and had lots of extra pillows.
An old favorite

We have been returning to Lucky D for many years. Our earliest visits included pictures of our children in the porch swing and we have continued that tradition - now adding grandchildren to the picture. However - we were very sad to find the swing missing this year! It may be silly, but for us that was a serious loss. The cabin itself is not fancy but it is comfortable and easy to drive to. It suits us well - if your're looking for video games and a gourmet kitchen you won't find it here but if you're looking for a homey, "let's sit around the fire together" family place then you will love it.
Cozy, comfy and very relaxing...

After reviewing tons of cabins and chalets and reading all of the reviews, we finally agreed on this cabin. It was more than we expected. We loved it, comfortable, cozy and so relaxing. The kitchen was very clean and had everything you will ever need. Our children loved the game in the great room, hot tub and tv's. The beds were awesome and the living room furniture was the best. We built a fire just to get the real feel of the cabin. Unbelievalbe. We will reserve this cabin again if at all possible. Thank you very much for kindness that the entire staff at Mountain Laurel showed us.

I once was impressed with my stay at the Lucky D Lodge, this is my 3rd time to stay at this chalet and I love it. Cozy, warm, and relaxing. I have stayed at other chalets, but I must admit that this is the best so far. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Nice Weekend away
Left on 03/13/2011 for a stay in February 2011 | Weekend away
The home had plenty of room for us and our 3 kids. The bed downstairs was extremely uncomfortable. The kids were upstairs so I am not sure about those beds. The house is extremely drafty in the living room and there were no matches for the fireplace so I had to really bundle while reading my book in the early morning. The jacuzzi tub is impossible to fill with hot water. The water ran for over 30 minutes and still was not above the jets but the hot water was gone and only cold comming out of the faucet. Of course the hot tub was wonderful. The kids got bored in the house, they were really expecting a pool table. I take my vacations for rest and relax, so the bed is extremely important to me.
Nice for the price, but needs improvement
Left on 02/24/2011 for a stay in January 2011 | Jeff
Nice cabin for the price, but needed some basic maintenance. A couple of doors needed adjustment/repair and bathroom was not 100% clean. I assume the price was lower than comparable cabins due to it's condition. I could have contacted the office and had these problems repaired while we where there, however we were on vacation and did not want the interuption. The indoor hot tub was old and loud, but worked ok.
This cabin is high up on Ski Mountain road, so it will be about a 5 minute drive from downtown. Even though it was just a 100' or so from Ski Mtn Road, North Baden Dr was quite steep, so in the winter months, prepair to buy tire chains.

We found the cabin clean, full of everything we needed to cook and wash. Loved the lay out - for six people (2 kids). It's really a four bedroom if you have someone sleep in the whirlpool room. That made it nice for our kids not to have to bunk up together.
We appreciate the updates since our last time in this cabin.

The Lucky D was very nice, cozy and relaxing. We enjoyed the Jacuzzi, hot tub and fireplace. We liked how it was away from the city, but not too far. The deck for the hot tub should be screened in, and the stairs from driveway up to cabin need so repair, they are a little wobbly

A few of us Girls decided to go to Gatlinburg for a getaway, and couldn't have chosen a better company to stay with. Our cabin was clean, stocked very well, and the staff was great. The only downfall to this cabin would be in the winter months. it was pretty steep. We had a black bear visitor, that was very nice. He visited us for about 15 minutes, and it really made our trip even better. We will definitely stay in Lucky D Lodge again, and with Mtn. Laurel everytime.

The Lucky D Lodge was a great place to retire for the day after a day of hiking. The hot tub was a nice "perk" for soothing sore muscles! The house was very clean and roomy...which made our teens very happy! The few minor issues we had were immediately taken care of by the staff at Mountain Laurel Chalets. We look forward to returning some day to hit some more of the many hiking trails in the park.
Snowy & Relaxing
Left on 02/25/2010 for a stay in February 2010 | Bear Lover
We stayed at the Lucky D Lodge over Valentine's Weekend. There was a lot of snow Friday night and we were quite appreciative of the fact that the chalet was less than a mile off of Ski Mtn. Rd. and had a nice level parking area. Two other peole actually used our driveway since they couldn't get up the hill to their chalets.
The chalet is older but well maintained. We only used one bedroom and bathroom but the others seemed fine. The king size bed was firm--not the kind that are so soft you wake up with back pain. The set up was nice with the bedrooms upstairs but not too many steps. We enjoyed the WiFi since it allowed us to email pictures home. The free long distance was also nice because our cell phones did not have service there. We were disappointed that the park was closed much of the weekend, but it actually allowed us to enjoy the chalet more instead of being gone dawn to dusk. The kitchen had everything we needed. We would definitely stay there again. Only one thing--it would be nice if thet hot tub were hotter.

really enjoyed our stay in this cabin, only a few minutes away from the main parkway yet with it being nestled off a side road and in the woods was like we were miles away. Saw a momma bear and cub the 1st nite and another bear in the trash the next nite. the cabin was really roomy and we spent most of our trip there just relaxing, it was our 30th anniversery. The upstairs bedroom stayed very chilly for some reason but downstairs it was nice my husband built a wood fire every nite. Check in was quick and easy but would like to have lock codes on the doors instead of keys so we could go straight to the cabin. Pricing was great compared to other cabins we have stayed at. Will surely use Mt. Laurel again.

The location of the lodge is close to the National Park and all the hiking trails we love. It is just far enough out of town to enjoy the mountain views, but close enough to have access to Gatlinburg and the National Park. The house is cozy and welcoming. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch swing and relaxing. The house is equipped with everything you need to enjoy your stay. It was clean and inviting. The only problems we encountered were easily fixed: we found a rotten potato in the cabinet which caused the cabin to smell and the blender was broken. Otherwise, we had a nice visit. The rental company was friendly at check in and check out. It was a great experience.

The home was more than we expected. I've been to Gatlinburg before and stayed, but being in a cabin in the mountains was a little different. It was relaxing to be able to come back after spending the day in town and enjoy the view from the front porch. The hot tub was a nice addition, I would wake up early while my kids were sleeping and take a dip in the hot tub. The house was very roomy and had all the comforts of home. They supplied everything you could imagine and more. We loved our stay, and one evening we got to see a bear come across the road in front of our cabin. I would recommend this cabin to anyone. The price was right for the time that we spent there. I would come back to the Lucky D Lodge again. Hoping to make it back in the spring, we would love to stay here again.

We stayed in the Lucky D for our family vacation. I have to say that I was so pleasantly surprised. The online photographs of this cabin didn't come close to doing it justice. It was spacious and inviting. The kitchen was stocked with everything a person could need. My 4 children had ample room to spread out. It was beautifully decorated. The location was perfect, close to all the attractions, but away from the noise of the city. The road in was well maintained and easy to drive.
The staff at Mountain Laurel was friendly and welcoming as well.

We recieved super service from the begining, we extended our stay twice before we even came to stay, everyone was very helpful. We loved the cabin, loved the cabin look that is has inside and out. Liked the set up of the cabin and the closeness to the clubhouse, to ober Gatlinburg, to town and yet felt secluded. We had a fat raccoon visitor and bears, that was interesting. I am not much for words, but we would love to stay there again. great experience! Thank you!

The "Lucky D" was more than we expected! We actually had the Three Suite booked for our vacation, but because of a change in our finances we had to go with a lower budget.
The Lucky D was perfect! We agree 100% with another post on here, the front porch was awesome! It alone was worth the price of the cabin. We spent lots of time out there drinking coffee, reading, playing guitar, etc.
We wandered if all the bear sightings we read about were made up or not. But yes, we really saw a bear! Only one, but we did see one right in front of the cabin, on a Tuesday evening around 6:15 PM.
The hot tub on the side deck was great. It was a little spooky at night because a bear could walk right up to you. My suggestion to the owners would be to raise the railing on the deck higher and it would be perfect. We got in it at night, but we took turns shining the flashlight on the mountain keeping watch!
If you are a runner like myself, you'll love the challenge of running in the area of the cabin. I ran up Ski Mountain Road the to top of Ober Gatlinburg and it was quiet a challenge (only from our cabin, not the entire road of course).
Our kids (3, 9, and 11) loved the cabin! We also took my parents with us and they were very happy. My mom could not walk very much and she was very content to stay at the Lucky D while the rest of us went downtown every evening.

We loved our stay at the Lucky D Lodge. It was a big change from staying on "the strip." We found it peaceful and relaxing, especially on the front porch. Although we had lots of rain on our vacation, we shopped and trekked between showers and then returned to relax and enjoy the hot tub. There was plenty of room in this cabin, and it was very clean including towels and bed linens. The king bed was a little stiff, but the others were very comfy. The decor is attractive and fitting, but I just can't say enough about the front porch. We enjoyed watching the wildlife around the cabin (including bears) and had a most enjoyable stay. It was a great vacation, and we hope to return soon.

This was our first time staying at the Lucky D Lodge. The ownership had recently changed. With 2 teenagers and two adults, the layout was excellent. The kids each got their own room. The setting was perfect for sitting on the front porch in the morning and watching the resident black bear make his rounds of trashcans.
The only aspect we didn't care for was that the chalet backed right up to the community pool so the noise in the afternoon could be bothersome.
Aside from that, our stay was perfect and we'll definitely stay at the Lucky D again.

Rented this unit from Mt. Laurel Chalets. Great company to deal
with. Downsides were we stayed early in season so firewood
was not there and we had to call for some but was delivered
very promptly by Mt. Laurel staff.
The hot tub was low on water and there was no hose available
so again a call to Mt. Laurel which was responded to quickly
The view is, well not really existent but the flip side to that is
that the unit is very well secluded other than a couple of nearby
units which were all unoccupied during our stay.
The unit itself was very nice with all the amenities you should
I would recommend staying in this unit if you need the room
and a view is low on your list of requirements.

The Smokies and Gatlinburg has been our family vacation every year for years. We can't wait to come back! One of the reasons is lodging is so reasonable. We always stay with Mountain Laurel, they are the best. Let me just say, you can pay easily DOUBLE the cost of this chalet for a motel room. Many opt for mountain views but we get lots of mountain views the whole time we are there so we really enjoy a chalet in the woods with a rustic feel. This chalet is very rustic and but still modern and comfortable. The kitchen is GREAT and the family can cozy around a fire with a movie or soak in the hot tube while listening to nature and the woods. It has EVERYTHING you need for a family and we slept 6 just fine here. You simply cannot beat the value the the service Mountain Laurel give makes it a 10 all the way!

Lodge. WE spent our days in town shopping and the nights cooking out and sitting in the hot tub. We also enjoyed the company of a few raccoons who would visit each night after dinner to help us clean up. My daughter thought that was so cool. I tried to book again for this fall break but the cabin was already booked. Looking forward to booking for next year as we plan to return to the mountains and book the Lucky D Lodge again. It was so warm and home like.

Lucky D is a wonderful cabin to rent on your visit. It is just a few minutes from Gatlinburg. The atmosphere was very relaxing. It was peaceful and quite. The hot tub was wonderful. I loved the fact that the owners left a book for guests to write comments. We actually saw bears between our cabin and the one next door. It was an awesome experience and I would and have recommend this cabin and Mt. Laurel Cabin Rentals to my friends and any one else that is considering a visit to that area. Renting a cabin is definitely the way to go.
