Description from the owner

Bear Hooked is nestled on 2 acres at the base of both the Cherokee National Forest and The Great Smoky Mountains National Park !! This Cabin offers seclusion while being only 2 blocks of main State Route 321, and just a short drive to either Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge. Bear Hooked has a gently rolling yard and covered deck ideal for watching the abundant natural wildlife of the area. Just a few weeks ago (3rd weekend in March '11) My wife and I stayed at the Cabin for a weekend as a little getaway. Friday night we saw small black bear wonder acroos the yard at dusk, and awoke Sunday morning to 3 deer grazing on the dew covered grass !!

      Not bad for the price...

Left on 07/02/2012 for a stay in June 2012

We booked this cabin for a short, two day excursion to the Smokys. It's about a 45 minute drive to the Gsmnp. Jeff was very easy to deal with and we had no trouble with email and phone contact whatsoever. The contract was pretty straight forward and we were able to pay by credit card using Homeaway. The price was great for a two bedroom cabin outside of Gatlinburg, which is why we chose this place. We don't care for the hubbub of the city or for the noise. We were looking for a nice, quiet place to come back to after a long day of hiking to relax on the deck and listen to the birds and watch the wildlife. It was easy to find, and Jeff texted me the lock code ahead, so we were all set when we arrived. The cabin is small, but adequate, with a large picture window in the main living area. The furniture was comfortable and clean. The kitchen has everything you should need to cook and serve, but there is no dining room table, just a small counter and stools. There is no dishwasher. The refrigerator is older and was leaking water from the freezer into the fridge. Nothing major, we left a note for them when we left. Someone had left a submarine sandwich in there, probably the cleaning service. The single bathroom is just your standard bath. There seemed to be a bit of a leak in the commode tank, making the water run, but nothing serious. They supplied towels and washcloths. There are two bedrooms, each with a queen sized bed. The bed was very comfortable. The sheets that were on the bed that we used were old and they should probably invest in some new linens. There is a hot tub on the deck, which we did not use. The deck itself is nice with two large rocking chairs overlooking the yard and some woods and would have been a lovely place to sit in the morning with a cup of coffee or in the evening with a glass of wine. Unfortunately it was completely unusable to us due to the a/C unit running right underneath, the constant motor noise of the hot tub sitting right there, the hum hum from the the mud-flap factory right below the cabin on the road, and the noise from the constant flow of traffic from route 321 which was also audible inside the cabin at night. We were so disappointed to not have the quiet setting we were hoping for. To be fair, the listing does say it is right off the main route. If all you are looking for a decent place and a good price, this could work for you, but if you want any peace and quiet, you might want to look somewhere else.
