We had a great time at the bears lair. Our group of 11 women had plenty of space. The cabin is spacious, the furnishings are average.
-There were a few things missing from the cabin- no wine opener (we bought and left one) - No cutting board - No salad spinner (that would not really be expected).
Location was excellent- beautiful views. Very close to Gatlinburg strip.
Great rental company- we arrived and there was snow on the driveway. We were worried it would freeze over and we would have difficulty leaving to go shop at the outlets Saturday morning. They promptly sent over a guy that shoveled off the snow and left extra salt if we needed it.
I would definitely use this rental company again. I might book this rental again, but would probably look into other cabin options first. This unit seemed to be very basic in furnishings and amenities. -Dated furniture, not enough seating at dining table (only had 6 spots), very basic kitchen items.

This is a wonderful and spacious home, with incredible views and lots of entertainment options. The webpage is accurate in the descriptions, i.e. five bedrooms, (four with attaching bathroom plus a guest bathroom), full kitchen, comfortable living room, two spa tubs inside and a large whirlpool on the upper balcony, pool table and Foosball on the lower level, balconies on both the main level and lower level, television in every room, etc.
It's in a wonderfully quiet location. I can't recommend it highly enough. My entire family loved staying here.
There are a few drawbacks, however, and I feel like I should point them out in fairness to other who plan to stay here.
First of all, there are a lot of stairs. The lower level (where two of the bedrooms, the laundry room, and the play tables are located) has extra high ceilings, so it is a long stairway down. Not a problem for the young or middle aged, but it could be a problem for the elderly.
Second, parking is a problem if there are more than two vehicles. You could conceivably park more there (and we did, when we had some guests), but you'd be juggling cars around to get back out of the drive. This house is built on the side of the mountain, so there is no other parking available on the side of the road; only what's in the driveway.
The house is over a mile up a steep mountain road with hairpin curves. Not difficult, actually sort of fun, but some of our elderly friends were fearful of the drive up.
The other major problem (and this would only be a summertime problem) is that the master bedroom...with the gas fireplace...stays too warm because of the pilot light. The air conditioning keeps the living room area plenty cool, but only a small amount of air seemed to reach the side bedrooms. Coupled with that, the morning sun hits the abundant glass windows and doors and really heats up the bedrooms.
These were all minor issues for us. Highly recommended rental, we enjoyed it immensely.

I would recommend this cabin to anyone. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you could need. Rooms were spacious and decorated nicely. The bed in the master bedroom was very comfortable.
The view was beautiful. If I had anything negative to say it would be about the driveway, not really a driveway! We did have an incident pulling in to the parking one time while it was raining that gave us all a heart attack.
The carpet on the stairs needed to be cleaned and the walls going down to lower level could stand a coat of paint. Other than the cabin was clean.
Jackson Mountain Homes made the rental process very easy and the home worked great for our needs. It has plenty of room and is in great condition. The only negative was the wasps. Although this is a problem in the area and not specific to the home, I do recommend letting renters know about this in advance. We killed three wasps in the house in the five days we were there. If any of our children had been allergic, that could've been a big problem.
Otherwise, I would recommend this home to anyone visiting the Gaitlinburg area! Read more
Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at The Bear's Lair. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay and apologize that you experienced a problem with wasps. With the excessive heat and rainfall we have been experiencing, we have seen an increase in the number of wasps and other insects. In addition to the regular monthly pest control, we have had the cabin treated again. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and your understanding. We hope to see you again soon.
We had a great experience at Bears Lair

We were very satisfied with the Bears Lair for our family of six, including four teenagers. The house, including the hot tub, was spotless, everything was in working order and we were within a short drive to all of the attractions. Our checkin was seamless and the house was close to Jackson Mountain Homes office. The view was fabulous and we were able to watch the Gatlinburg fireworks from the deck while some of us went into the town. It is a steep climb in the car to the top of the mountain, but well worth it.

We stayed here with another family, four adults and five children. We could get downtown in just a few minutes and the view was great. Could not see downtown from the deck but the view of the mountains made up for it. We had plenty of room for everyone and the chalet was in good condition. I would defintely stay here again.

Our family had a great time for the new Year's Eve trip to Gatlinburg. This home was great for our family of 6 and we had plenty of room for friends! It's a five minute drive to town and we even watched the fireworks at the space needle from just down the road (the mountain jutts out and obstructs the view from our deck). Will definitely keep this on our list of places to return.
