Beautiful view but stressful drive up.

Above and Beyond cabin was clean and stocked. The view was nice on a clear day. The open floor plan was perfect for family time. The hot tub was a hit. We had no problems checking in/out. Directions were confusing. We were very dependent on our GPS. The drive up the mountain was rough. The road was too narrow, steep, and had many sharp curves. We had to return to cabin before dark and even hit terrible fog one evening. My minivan worked very hard. For this reason alone I will never return to this cabin.

This is our 5 or 6tth stay at "Above and Beyond." It is very clean and straight up the mountain. Also, it is very private up there and we can take our beloved "cat." You would never know any other animal has stayed at this cabin. Very clean. Beds are confortable. It is on top of this mountain and not good to go in and out if there is fog and raining. The garmin goes not work.
Love this place!

This was about our 6th time to stay in above and beyond. Obviously we love this place. We have been going during the winter and for the past several years have snow every time, good thing I have 4WD and chains. This time we did see a bear that tried to get in the garbage can. We have a newborn and it was his first time at the cabin. We hope to be back for many years. If you like seclusion and a decent view this is the place.

Our stay at above and Beyond was great in terms of the lodge itself. Dampers on it all were the bear activity (one prowling around the lodge, as well as a mother and three cubs down the hill examining the garbage of another home, making walking around intimidating). Comes with the territory, I know, but it still was a damper. Weather was cloudy, views not as great as we remember it two years ago. Again nothing to do with the lodge, but ... Phone did not work for one day, phone company working in the area. We had cell phones, so it was not a problem, but it was an amenity that was not available for a day.

What a nice little house! The view was just wonderful. Staying in this house was worth the very steep drive. It was just the right amount of room for me, my husband, our daughter, and my in-laws. It has two master bedrooms with everything on one level, which made it the perfect house for us.

This cabin was perfect for our family -- we have two who are four, so I had wanted a cabin with bedrooms on one level, but with enough space and this was it. The beds were very, very comfortable and we loved being here. The location was certainly above and beyond -- we loved the view and the secluded spot -- we didn't see anyone else during our week here. The road to get there was very steep and a little confusing, but our minivan surprisingly made it just fine. Head's up -- a big black bear came and checked out our grill, car, and trash just 20 minutes after my husband grilled burgers, so caution is definitely needed while grilling. Overall, this cabin was one of the high points of our trip -- thank you!

We have been to Gatlinburg 7 times over the last 18 years but have never rented a cabin. Jackson Mountain Home was very friendly and answered all my emails very timely. The cabin was everything that the pictures showed. It is a very steep drive to the cabin but very secluded with lots of privacy. The view was wonderful and the cabin was very nice. We actually was welcomed to our cabin with a bear sitting on our front porch. It was very neat seeing a wild bear.
Great cabin, great trip!

We stayed in above and Beyond for our first wedding anniversary. The location of the cabin was amazing. We'd never been to Gatlinburg before and weren't sure what to expect. We had a great time. Couldn't have asked for a more romantic location. There was lots to do between the national park, downtown Gatlinburg, and the other attractions in the area. we had a really great time and look forward to coming back.

This was our second stay at above and beyond. We liked it on top of the mountian It was scary one night coming back from something when it was dark, raining and foggy. The garmen doesn't work well in the mountains. Over all we would stay there again. It is a beautiful view, very clean, decorations could be updated. Love the gas fire place.
Great view and privacy

Enjoyed our stay very much. The view was terffic. The town was so crowded that we didn't even go into town on one day. Sofa was uncomfortable and they could stand to replace the matresses. Everything else was great.

This was our first experience renting a cabin. It was an excellent choice for us. We had our three grandchildren, and this cabin gave us lots of space a motel could not along with lots of privacy and the kids could get out of doors and not have to worry about the noise. Also with the kids ages, a one story was our best choice.

We had a wonderful stay at above and beyond cabin. The drive up to the home was a steep drive, but once we drove it a few times it was good. We enjoyed the hot tub every morning when we got up. Had a great view of ski mtn. We looked for critters each day and evening ,but only saw squirrels. We had hoped to see some other wildlife,ie., bears, turkeys, foxes, something. The cabin could use some updating in the electronics dept.( dvd player, t.v.'s)but who needs these when you got a view, hot tub,and King beds. Thank you for the stay and we'll be back again.
Having a nice place to return to at night was key.

The cabin was great! The only thing we could have asked for extra would have been a pool table but that was not a show stopper. The location of the cabin was completely unbeatable!

We have stayed in this cabin 3 times an completely love the place. It is very secluded, about 3000ft or so, and on the edge of the national park. This past visit it snowed about 8-9in and was beautiful. We couldn't even get down the mountain one day, of course this made the hot tub even more of a delight. On other stays we have seen bears. The only downer is the beds are not comfortable and we always bring some kind of supplemental bedding to go on top of the mattress. One of a kind place. We will certainly return:)

We have stayed in this house numerous times as part of a yearly ritual to celebrate my wife's birthday and enjoy the Smokies. It is a pefect location and just the right size for us. We almost always have visits from bears, deer, turkeys,Raccoons, all other sorts of wildlife-This year the biggest woodpecker we've ever seen. The weather was perfect ,the trails not crowded and the foilage was just beginning to perfect its color. We were concerned with the closings of some of our favorite long term businesses in town but some new additions give hope for an upturn.

I rented the home the week following Easter and made the arrangements the Friday before. I have to admit that I did tell my family not to get their hopes to high. That often times things are not what the seem on line and other media outlets. After driving for hours, from Michigan, with 3 children and the dog, I was really hoping that the cabin was going to be OK. I mean smoking and pets were allowed. We are not a smoking family, so I had doubts. Let me tell you, it was AWESOME! The home was clean, the floor plan was fantatic, the view remarkable. We spent a full week of family time together hiking the trails by the nearby Smoky Mountains and coming home to relax in the hot tub. The home is very high in the mountain, which creates a roller coaster feel to getting up and down to and from the home. My mini-van's breaks were smoking after every trip down the mountain. That was the only drawback to the location. Overall we would recommend this home to any and all people. The bedrooms were nice, we were able to do laundry before we went home, which saved me time at home. I can not say enough of the relaxing time we all had there. There were no neighbors or other distractions, it was a pure get away that was really needed. From the experience from making my reservation through to the last day, the management folks did a fantastic job. We will certainly do this again!! The kids are still talking about our vacation.
Wish only a few things were different.

We stayed for 2 nights. The staff was great. The cabin itself was in good condition. There were a few things that could have made the trip better. Number one, we had a sticky floor in the kitchen. Number two, the hot tub on the balcony that overlooked the view was kind of dirty. We found a cigarette butt in there and some sand or something on the bottom of the hot tub as well. Number three, I would have enjoyed the grill on that same balcony as the hot tub. Instead it was located on the front of the property. We used that grill for every meal, just would have been nice if I wasn't running in and out the front door to cook. The view was foggy the first day but on the second day it was amazing. Loved the fire place. We really had a great weekend and can't wait to do it again. Read more

This was my first experience with renting a cabin in Gatlinburg, and I'm happy to report that it was a most positive experience. Jackson Mountain Homes Realty responded promptly and courteously to every inquiry and need. The cabin, aptly named "Above and Beyond," is located on the tip top of Ski Mountain, adjacent to Ober Gatlinburg and the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. We saw the clouds below us, literally, on two days. On clear days we saw the valley below for miles. The two snow days were fantastic, just perfect for sitting in the hot tub and taking in the beauty of the landscape. The cabin itself was comfy, snug and well-appointed. It was just right for a family of four, plus one miniature dachsund. The only drawback is the steep and curvy ride up the mountain itself, something to take into account depending upon one's vehicle and driving experience. It was not a problem for us, but we are veteran mountain drivers. I have already booked the cabin for 2010!

The service was great, especially the welcome bear. He was waiting for us under the big tree in the back yard when we arrived and was back the next morning in the front yard. This chalet was beautiful. The layout was great. I loved the gas fireplace, the high ceilings and of course, the hot tub.
The thing I liked least was the road to the chalet. It is very twisty and curvy and you can get lost very easily.
Overall, we had a wonderful time even the visits from the bear.

We liked staying in a one story house so that both bed rooms are on the same floor. The drive way and lot are flat which was another plus. The down side of the house is simply that it is not updated and seems to be stuck in the 80s. Their is no alarm system and the front door is secured by a twist lock; not a double sided deadbolt. Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey. We are happy you enjoyedt he floorplan and the location. We will forward your comments on to the cabin owner regarding the alarm and the door. We are sorry you were disappointed in that aspect of the home. We hope you will visit again in the future.

As this is the 4th time I have stayed at Above and Beyond, I obviously really like the cabin. The cabin has always been extremely clean, has enough toilitries to last a few days. The cabin is in a very peaceful setting, has no traffic, and allows me to take my dogs with me. Also, the motion detectors needed some adjusting since the last time my family was there. JMH's was right there to fix them!!! I have used other JMH cabins in the addition to Above and Beyond, and always had a wonderful experience! So glad we found them!!

My wife won our stay for secretary's day from a local radio station. We enjoyed our stay immensely. My wife loved the hot tub and took advantage of it every evening. The cabin though you have neighbors felt very secluded. It was immaculate throughout.
It is definitely a spring to early winter cabin. I would never try to get there in the snow.
Other visitors stated they had seen bears. We were not as fortunate. If the rest of your cabins are this beautiful, a person could not go wrong with Jackson Mountain Homes.

This was our family's first experience renting a cabin. We were well pleased with the ease of making the reservation, the follow up phone call at the cabin to make sure everything was in order, and the entire experience. The cabin was as advertised. Highlights: clean; spacious; kitchen well-stocked with dishes and cooking instruments; beautiful view; large jetted tubs; hot tub; gas logs which we did not use due to the season; and much more. We will rent with Jackson Mountain Homes again.

We definitely enjoyed our stay at Above and Beyond. We were traveling with our kids (11, 12, and 15 mths) and our dog. We felt at home while we were there and I personally hated to leave and come back to reality. The cabin was clean upon arrival, spacious enough that we didn't all have to be on top of one another, and just had a home like feel. Much to our kids disappointment, we didn't see any bears. The location was unbelievable....thank goodness for good directions. Once we got the hang of how to get there, it was not a problem. I can certainly see why this cabin is called Above and Beyond. The view was spectacular - I miss waking up in the mornings and walking out on the deck and taking in the sights and sounds of the mountains. I would recommend this cabin to anyone who wants to "get away from it all".
TRULY above and beyond!
Left on 04/16/2009 for a stay in April 2009 | joy2you
The view from this cabin is ABSOLUTELY breathtaking! Since it literally borders the the National Park, there is nothing but beautiful surroundings, wildlife, and views on all sides - so peaceful and quiet.
I would recommend planning for inclement weather, though. It is a harrowing drive up there, lots of sharp, steep, twisty turns which were quite unnerving since our welcome was a late winter storm with several inches of snow! If the weather looks iffy, stock up on food BEFORE you head up that mountain!
The hottub view is incredible-and the deck very nice (but there was no outdoor table for morning breakfasts in the fresh mountain air). The furnishings were very comfortable, and both baths have nice, huge jetted tubs.
The electronics were a bit dated (no dvd/cd players and the tvs were older and small) but working. There were no games, movies or books available like we've had in previous rentals, but we usually bring our own anyway...for those down times when you've hiked your legs off (or if it rains).
I would rent this cabin again. We are a family of five and it was plenty roomy yet very cozy. When we share with other families, as in the past, we usually go for game tables, bonus rooms, etc....but for a family just wanting to enjoy the mountains and the area - this cabin was perfect. And the VIEW was unbeatable!

My husband and I loved the cabin. We felt secluded and enjoyed staying so close to the state park. (The bark boundary borders the drive way.) The cabin is faraway enough from Gattlinburg to feel out of town, but not too far. I also loved the running trail at the bottom of ski mt road, and the cabin is pet friendly so we could bring our dogs. We had a great stay.
