Cincinnati, ohioGreat family getaway
Left on 04/25/2013 for a stay in April 2013
Running bear was just what we needed! We had four adults and a 3 month old and everyone had a great time! The pool table was great for us at night after relaxing in the hot tub that comfortably fit four adults. We enjoyed our stay very much and look forward to returning. This was my second time staying at Running Bear.

Love Jackson Mountain Homes, we have rented from them for many years, easy check in, quick to respond to any questions/problems. Running Bear had great decks and views, cozy family/living room with gas fireplace (needed in March and greatly appreciated). It was clean and we enjoyed it. My 85 year old mother and 3 sisters enjoyed great times together at the cabin.

We stayed at Running Bear for three nights in October and had a great time. It is only about five min to downtown. The cabin was very clean and comfortable. The hot tub was awesome. There were other cabins nearby but had plenty of privacy. A word of advice, don't leave your food or drink unattended on the decks. We had several very frindly racoons to pay us a visit each night. Looking forward to this falls trip. Planing on 5 nights!! Thanks to Jackson Mountain Homes we had a wonderful stay.

This is perfect for either a couple or family. They layout offers privacy upstairs and downstairs. The location is just far enough away from town to be private, but close enough to run to the grocery. We enjoyed taking the nearby arts and Crafts Loop to visit local artists' shops. The kitchen was fully stocked and everything was clean, neat, and comfortable - you won't want to leave the cabin!

CincinnatiPerfect Cabin!!
Left on 10/18/2012 for a stay in October 2012
Running Bear is the cutest, cleanest cabin I have ever rented. We were there for my son's wedding, he originally thought he would get married next to a waterfall but after seeing how beautiful the surroundings of the cabin were, he decided to do the ceremony on the porch of the cabin and it was perfect! There are surrounding cabins near by but they were spaced far enough apart that it didn't matter, you still had total privacy. The cabin is right off the road, but again it didn't matter, I don't think I saw one car during our 4 day stay.
I read in other reviews of this cabin that the mattresses were hard and uncomfortable, I disagree, I thought the King size beds were comfy. My daughter slept on one of the sleep sofas and she said it was very comfortable. The entire cabin was beautiful and comfortable.
My entire experience was positive, the staff at Jackson Mountain Homes were helpful and kind, the after hours pick up was easy and convenient, the cabin had everything we needed including dishwashing powder and laundry detergent. The linens were clean, the cabin was spotless and the entire trip was perfect! My family can't wait to come back and we will stay in Running Bear if it is available.

The best thing about Jackson Mountain Homes is the people. They will do whatever it takes to make sure you have a great place to stay. Running Bear was a great cabin. It has great privacy yet is only a few minutes away from all the attractions of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. The wrap around porch was a great place to sit and relax in the mornings or unwind in the afternoon. Looking forward to our next visit!

McCordsville, INFirst time in Gatlinburg and we got lucky on our cabin rental!
Left on 07/26/2012 for a stay in July 2012
This 2 bedroom cabin was absolutely great! We loved the furniture and decorations, pine wood interior walls, pool table on the lower level, the cleanliness, and location to downtown Gatlinburg and the park. It sleeps 8 but the sleeper sofas were not the most comfortable. So it would really be a perfect cabin for 4(2 king size beds). Running Bear isn't terribly far up the mountain (just a few winding roads)and is surrounded by other cabins but you really couldn't tell that. We spent lots of time on the wrap around porches and felt secluded. Looking forward to going back sometime. Definitely worth the money.

Evansville, INGreat for the most part...
Left on 06/21/2012 for a stay in May 2012
The cabin itself is perfect! We loved the fact that the hot tub is on the upper deck off of the living room. Makes it so much more accessible. Location is ideal, traded some remoteness for being closer to Gatlinburg, which made it nice with kids who needed a break mid-day. The downside was that a neighboring home was being roofed, and that made it extremely noisy. We weren't there hardly at all during the day, so it really wasn't an issue...but for someone looking to sit on the deck and drink a cup of coffee and enjoy the peace...not so much. The dryer was very inefficient, which was annoying. And the aC blower never turned on, which we relayed to Jackson Mtns upon departure and they were going to address it. With the exception of those few issues, a very nice stay.
Response from Jackson Mountain Homes - 06/21/2012
Manager
Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at Running Bear. We are glad that you had a nice stay and apologize for any problems you experienced. The Gatlinburg area was hit by a substantial storm with baseball size hail which damaged many automobiles and homes in the area. The roofing next door was probably a result of that hail damage. Unfortunately, we do not rent that home and did not know there was roofing being done.
We have checked the dryer and air conditioning unit and both are working properly at this time; however, we will continue to monitor them. We appreciate you bringing these items to our attention and your understanding. Again, we apologize and hope to see you soon. -

Lol never have had a issue with anything everything has always worked. My husband would move in if you let him. The people at Jackson Moutain are great to work with and very helpful! By the way the cabin we always stay in is the running bear! We were already their in april and coming back in September! Can't wait!

Left on 03/28/2012 for a stay in March 2012
The people at Jackson Mountain Homes were very helpful when we called to say we were stuck in traffic and would not make it there before they closed. We were given instructions on how to get our packet. The packet included easy to follow detailed directions to the cabin. When we arrived the light was already on. My husband and I ran round like a couple of kids checking the place out. Almost, but only almost regretted leaving the kids at home because there was plenty of room for more than just the 2 of us. Between our packet and the information left on the kitchen table we were able to find a convienent place to have a late night dinner. The next morning we woke refreshed and ventured out to Bent Creek Golf course so my husband could try out his new clubs. I rode in the cart and enjoyed the many babbling brooks and beautiful scenery throughout the course. We then visited many of the craft shops in the 8 mile loop. After dinner we stopped at Food City and were able to pick up a few groceries and a couple of movies. We enjoyed a couple of relaxing evenings back at our cabin with the movies, firelace and hot tub. I enjoyed the journals kept by the owners in the cabin. It is interesting to see many return. The things we like the least about our stay were not seeing any wildlife other than birds and squirrels. Plus the fact that we had to leave so soon.

Tampa, FLGreat First Experience ...
Left on 01/04/2012 for a stay in December 2011
This was our first experience with Jackson and Gatlinburg itself and simply speaking it was as pleasant as we though it was going to be, arriving to Gatlinburgh was very welcoming as the small town is crafted to match those pictures of European snow-mountain towns with smoky chimeneys, hot chocolate and good company. Arriving to the cabin was also a nice moment since everything was clean, organized and inviting. We spend 4 days in Running Bear and will remember those 4 days always!! Hope we can repeat it next year.

We stayed in americana the previous 2 years. While we love the view from americana, we did not like the cabin. This cabin is much more convenient and enjoyable. We will request it again next year when we return to the Smokies to hike. I gave the cabin 4 stars, just because I wish it had a bit more of a mountain view.

Left on 07/28/2011 for a stay in July 2011
Running Bear has everything and more that the website promises. The photos give you an accurate idea of what to expect. We were greeted by a friendly staff member who made check in a breeze. The directions they gave us took us straight to the cabin. The cabin and the road to get there is completely removed form the traffic you usually experience in Gatlinburg. My husband and I stayed there with our two boys, ages 11 and 7. There was plenty of room for everyone to spread out and relax. We enjoyed the hot tub on the deck. It was a great way to spend the evening. The kitchen is fully stocked, however they were no measuring cups. So if you plan on baking you may want to bring your own. Other than that, we didn't need a thing. We cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner and had plenty of glassware, dishes, silverware and pots and pans. They even have great grilling utensils! The beds were a little uncomfortable for us, but they are not old or saggy and out of shape. They were just not for us. We would stay here again. Everything is very clean, in good shape and comfortable. There is hardly any traffic on the road that goes by the cabin. We were there for five nights and maybe saw three cars go by. Perfect Smoky mouton getaway.

We loved Running Bear's location, set up, privacy and hot tub. It was quiet, lovely and a great escape. Close to town so we could drive there in a just a few minutes but with a great view of the mountains. The only negative was the mattress situation. The two king size beds had very old and uncomfortable mattresses and the upstairs bedroom's sheets did not fit (they kept attacking you in the middle of the night) -- the pull out sofa in the lower level was horrible - very think mattress and you can feel the metal with you hand. But who is really there to sleep? We would rent Running Bear again once the mattresses are replaced.

As always Rick and I and our daughter, son in-law and granddaughter had the greatest time staying with Jackson Mt. Homes. Everyone repeatedly stated this was the best home yet--full size pool table, large bedrooms (ooh, those matresses, too uncomfortable for all of us, yet all said they wanted to come back to this particular home), closeness to Gatlinburg, the porch swing and rockers and two balconies and on and on. Our three year old, Gabrielle, would especially like to thank you for the birds and squirrels that provided entertainment :)

My family and I loved this cabin and we would rent it again, it was very clean and I was surprising because I'm mom and Im a critic everywhere we go when it comes to cleanliness the only problems I had was that the down stairs window needed curtains because I am a bit of a scarredy cat when big windows have no covering (curtains or blinds), and the washing machine had a little Oder. I think it just needed cleaning tablets that you put in the washer just to clean the residue from so many people using it, you have to clean it every so often, and that's anyone who uses a washer on regular bases. I loved this cabin and you will to

Left on 10/13/2010 for a stay in October 2010
We stayed here for 3 nights from Oct 6-8 and we had a great time. We had 4 adults and 4 children and it was just the perfect size. The cabin is beautiful and though it does not have a view like some, you still get this great feeling of being in the woods and somewhat secluded from the world. I would definitely recommend anyone looking for a place to stay in Gatlinburg to check this cabin out. The drive from this cabin into Gatlinburg is only a few minutes and parking really wasnt too bad. Overall, everyone had a wonderful time.
If I had a complaint it would be that the mattresses on the beds were a bit too firm in my opinion. Other than that everything was great. -

We traveled with our 6 children for our 12 year old sons birthday. The cabin was rustic and made us feel like we were really in a cabin in the woods. The kids loved the room to roam, the pool table, the outdoor swing...just hanging out playing board games. The hot tub was grand. We even saw a huge black bear! Had an awesome time can't wait to go back.

We choice Running Bear because the owners are big fans of his. Sonny and his wife Doris were in my Sunday morning Bible class at church a few years ago. Delightful friends with whom we exhange mail from time to time. The cabin was very good, and two minor problems, which did not bother us, were reported when we left. I'm sure they were taken care of later. We liked the cabin's location (not too high, but high enough for a good view). Michelle in the office (and others with whom we spoke) were delightful and helpful.

Had a great time when we were there.....if there was anything negative to say it would have to be that the sheets to the main bedroom could have fit the bed much better....kept coming off because they were too small, which then brought the mattress pad off also.
Other than that.....I'm sure we will be back !!!!

Birmingham, AlabamaGreat cabin and close location
Left on 07/19/2009 for a stay in June 2009
Running Bear had all the amenities. The cabin is tastefully decorated with
bear themes. The wooden interior and furnishings were very nice. We
certainly enjoyed the pool table and wide porches. The hot tub was very
nice.
This cabin does not have a scenic view but overlook a heavily wooded area,
and we enjoyed plenty of privacy (stayed in June, not sure how it will look in
the winter after leaf fall as other cabins are near).
We were 5 minutes from the main strip in Gatlinburg and a grocery was
within 5 minutes on HWY 321. We enjoyed the satellite TV late in the
evening (also had DVD and VHS but did not use). Having WiFi internet was
important for us as well.
The cabin was very clean and maintained in excellent condition. The
kitchen had plenty of cookware and dishes and cups. The dishwasher
worked well, and the washer/dryer was a big help. The main level and
downstairs bedrooms had comfortable king-size beds, and bathrooms were
clean and had plenty of room.
The management company, Jackson Mountain Homes, was very helpful and
easy to work with. Overall, we liked the cabin very much, and we hope it
will be available for future trips to the Gatlinburg area. -

We will only go back to Running Bear! We have stayed at several other rentals in Gatlinburg. But since we found Running Bear, we will only go back there.
Some of the rentals feel like just that....investment property rentals. Not Running Bear. It feels like someone is sharing their home with you there. Great cabin, very comfortable and the parking is great! A lot of the propeties have horrible parking.....nasty hill hard to turn around and get out. Running Bear's parking is right on the street and level!
I would recommend this rental to anyone and everyone! Just leave us our weekend 2 weeks before Christmas!
