Milwaukie, OregonExtremely Comfortable with a Great View of the Ocean
Left on 03/21/2013 for a stay in February 2013
This unit was very spacious and comfortable for our family of four. The view from this corner unit to the ocean was probably the best available looking around at the other units. The large deck was also a bonus!

This is a very nice condo on the corner of the Palisades unit. It overlooks an empty field, then some other buildings, then the beach and ocean. It was very comfortable, although the king bed mattress seemed to have less than firm support. Tv is older, not hi-def. Color scheme is bold blues and greens, takes some getting used to, but seems fresh and new. Everything in the kitchen and bathrooms worked well, and everything was very clean. Nice fireplace, too.

We had a great time on this trip to the beach. It was a little bit of a walk and you could only see some of the ocean over the hills. It was located very close to a playground that could be noisy at times and upset my dog. There were some people in the area that obvsiouly left their dogs unattended because we could hear non-stop barking for over an hour. Also the beach you walk to is right where the car's allowed spot is so it can be a little scary. Fyi this part does not have a dog leash law. People just let their dog come running up to your dog and don't seem to care...
But the room itself was amazing. I wish that each room came with one queen bed instead of one big bed and 2 small beds in another room. I would definitely visit again. -

Milwaukie, OregonGorgeous beach views!
Left on 01/13/2011 for a stay in June 2010
We stayed in rm 462 for a couple of nights in June 2010. Here are some things we enjoyed about our stay:
+Reasonable priced unit and we could bring our small dog (family member with us). Renting a condo with a kitchen was important to us to help stay within our budget.
+Unit had a King bed for my hubby and I, and an addl bedroom for our toddler daughter, so that everyone could get a great night sleep!
+Swimming pool was very close to access.
+Beach access, playground and paths were very close- it made transporting our stuff to the beach easier!
+It was easy to get our gear into our rental unit- just about 6 steps up from the car and we were there- no waiting for elevators, etc!
+Best of all was the gorgeous view! We were in an end unit and had windows on the east, west and south sides. It was wonderful to be able to watch the sunset from our deck!
We loved this place so much that we are returning in March 2011! -

Atherton, California“We'd easily and happily return!”

We first heard of this spot in an Oregon/Washington cycling book ... then read reviews on TripAdvisor, Yahoo, and VRBO. The reviews were up & down the scale. I checked for units (individually-owned condos spread between several different buildings with slightly differing amenities), always returning to the Gearhart-by-the-Sea official webpage for building on grounds layout and location of specific rooms. Not finding the units I was interested in available on the dates we'd be around town, I accessed the available units through the official site and found several possibilities. I was able to choose by looking at pictures and room descriptions. I avoided those given negative reviews on this site and others. I found a lovely, light-filled and pleasingly painted unit with relaxed ocean colors of blues and soft yellow. The spacious balcony sported Aidirondack rockers and a view of the ocean and a glimpse of the beach through both dunes and over some low, closer to the beach building units.
I'd like to offer well-deserved kudos to the office desk staff who patiently answered my questions before and after I made online reservations. I'd particularly like to single out Shawna who I feel went out of her way, beyond the call of duty (ie. job description) to help me with copying a document and getting it faxed in an emergency-type situation ... all with the 'no problem' attitude and smile you need in those trying moments.
We've found we love and appreciate Oregon's coast communities (& history) more than we expected. And I feel, this welcoming home away from home contributed to this!
Added note: Took a star off 'Value' because we always hope for less, especially when traveling 'off season.'
Took a star off 'Location' because we'd have enjoyed the unit be in a building directly above the beach ... without a parking lot and buildings between.

My husband, myself, and our 2 kids always enjoy our stay at Gearhart By The Sea. We have stayed there during spring break for the last 3 years and really love it! The kids especially love the swimming pool!! Only complant is that there is no hot tub in one of the pool areas.

WaOverpriced and outdated
Left on 01/05/2011 for a stay in November 2010
Way too expensive for what you get to stay in. Everything is outdated from the 60's era and the kitchen only had a few utensils, pots, and pans to use. We also came home with flea bites from the master bed (bedding looks old & gross) If you want to spend a fortune on flea bites, an outdated condo unit, and on top of that still pay tons of $ to fill your fridge for a few days then go here! This unit was even one of the "better ones" compared to some of the other units our extended family stayed in. Definetly not going back again!

Tigard OregonComfortable & well furnished
Left on 11/25/2010 for a stay in November 2010
Terrific unit. Well maintained and stocked with adequate dishes, silver and cookware. We like the fact we can bring our dog and the place doesn't feel like there has been a million animals in it. It is clean, people have respected the property. The owners have furnished it attractively with comfortable furniture although the beds are a little hard. (Better than too soft). We appreciate all the little extras that are available for your use. The location is terrific--right close to the pool and the view is the best.
