Our family had a wonderful stay at the Cays!

Left on 05/03/2013 for a stay in April 2013

Villas are beautiful, new and incredibly well equipped.. we found everything we needed! There's a lovely pool on waters edge, no sandy beach around but a privileged place for stunning sunsets. (don't forget your insect repellent to prevent bugs bites!)
You need a car to reach the wonderful beaches, touring the island and for shopping.
Thanks to Norman for being such a very friendly manager!!

Left on 04/11/2013 for a stay in March 2013

Very large home, well appointed and right on the waters edge. Stunning sunsets. Located in a community of homes, some owner occupied, some rentals. Swimming pool and no host bar area to gather makes it feel quite homey. Management is on the property to answer any questions. Car is necessary for grocery runs and touring the island.

A group of 8 stayed in the gold house in The Cays, and found it to be absolutely ideal for our vacation! The home is well-maintained, spacious great room/kitchen/dining area set-up (much larger than it appeared on the internet). You are literally steps from the beach and from the pool. The screened-in porch overlooking the water was our favorite place to hang out. A washer/dryer is available. A very friendly manager was readily available if we had any needs.

      Highly recommended!!

      Fantastic island getaway

Left on 03/05/2013 for a stay in January 2013

the cays have spectacular accommodations, with fully equipped homes right down to the pizza cutter and laundry soap, everything a person needs for a self directed vacation on the island.Spacious home allows privacy and comfort for groups. You need a car to get to grocery store that is 10 minutes away and to visit other spots on the island.Grocery selection is good but because of the island location, prices higher than mainland. Pool area is lovely, beach is small but nice, overall a quiet and relaxing place. Self guided fly fishing is available right in front of house and plenty of room for a number of fishermen, and boat/guide service available. Bahamian people are the friendliest, most helpful folks, felt very safe every place we went.

      Much better than expected

Left on 02/24/2013 for a stay in February 2013

We spent a week with our 3 young kids at the Cays. We loved everything about the place; the house is really very nice and very clean with nice furniture and all the comfort you need in a house when you have kids (or not!). The children loved the pool and all the activities the tenants, Norman and Julie, offer (small boat, Kayake). Norman and his wife Julie are so kind, they welcomed us and let us know everything about the house, the place and the island; they are always around to help if you need something. The house is close from Georgetown (10 minutes away), where you have the supermarket, gift shops, gas station, taxi boats which bring you to Stocking Island. You also have a restaurant near the house where you can walk to, we did not try it though. We hope we will be back!

Left on 01/31/2013 for a stay in December 2012

We rented a great 4 br house right on the water at the Cays in Exuma. Sunsets were amazing. The property had a small beach, a pool, kayaks, crystal clear shallow water, and very friendly neighbors. Within walking distance was Catch a Fire, one of the better restaurants in Exuma. We spent several nights eating, drinking and dancing there. Great food, super great people. The Cays is a short drive from Georgetown, where you could get provisions, catch a boat over to Stocking Island for the pig roast, or just wander around to shop or have a meal. We had a wonderful relaxing vacation with lots of fun in the sun. I would go back in a heartbeat.

      What an amazing get away!

Left on 01/30/2013 for a stay in January 2013

The house was beautiful! Right on the ocean with gorgeous landscaping, the beach right there, a pool, outside bar, fun hammocks and relaxing chairs to sit and enjoy the sunset. Ohhh - and the sunset - it was unbelievable! The amenities were great too - washer and dryer, dishwasher, internet access... everything in the house is updated and modern. They just finished screening in part of the outside deck which was wonderful. The property manager, Norm, was a great guy. Very accommodating and helpful. We stayed a week and it flew by! Although it is a small island, we had plenty to do. With Chat & Chill on Stocking Island, Catch a Fire and the Rake 'n Scrape band, the "Shack" area with Charlie's and The Out Deck, and all the Georgetown happenings - we had a blast!

      Great Escape!!

Left on 08/24/2012 for a stay in July 2012

We have recently returned from a five week rental at the Cays in Georgetown.
Obviously we had only seen pictures of the rental before we arrived and the communal areas of the small resort of 17 houses. We were not dissapointed at all by our first impression on arriving at the Cays. It is everything and more that we hoped it would be. The location is perfect - close to Georgetown and all amenities and places to eat and ofcourse the fantastic Fish fry - but more importantly are the people who there that make your stay so unforgettable and a joy to come back to each day after a day on one of the many beautiful beaches less than a five minute drive from the house.

Norman and his wife Julie are on hand to help out if you need anything and always around for a catch up and a beer at the end of the day - we had many great conversations with Norman and he made our trip just as much as the beaches and all the wonderful things the Exumas have to offer.

We would definitely return to the Cays and can highly reccomend this as a place for families and couples alike.

Simply a great place to escape to and enjoy the peace! Wonderfully developed and maintained, by Norman.

      Very Relaxing

Left on 01/01/2012 for a stay in December 2011

Had a great stay in Blue Water Villa. The house was clean, well equipped and very nice (granite counters, fancy sinks in the bathrooms, etc). Norman and Julie were exceptional hosts and were invaluable in helping us navigate the island. They even gave up their seats in a crowded local restaurant so our family could be seated for dinner!
The grounds were nice: there was a pool, a small beach and a bar. That's about it. My daughters took full advantage of the two hammocks available for sunbathing. The beach is not great for swimming but several outstanding secluded beaches were just a few minutes ride away.
This is not a place for people who want glitz and action or even a little city or town activities (George Town has no stop lights). But if you want to relax in good comfort for a great price, this is the place.

Exuma Cays a fishtastic destination with some sun and relaxation

Left on 12/29/2011 for a stay in November 2011

Second to our Honeymoon in the Maldives, the best holliday we have had. There was damage and some post hurricane (Irene) clean up taking place but was not obtrusive. There was also some building work in progress but will be completed by spring 12, again not too noticable.

We were met at the airport and taken to the house by Norman, the manager, and his wife Jules and for the rest of the holliday they were there if we needed anything at all. We had ordered some basic provisions beforehand and they were in the fridge on our arrival. Coconut Cottage was beautifull and spotlessly clean with ample space for 3 couples (3, king/Double bads). all with seperate bath rooms. We lacked for nothing, even beach towels were provided.

Beach is a muddy sand (too shallow to swim in at low tide) but the relaxation area is white sand with plenty of seating, hammocks and a good sized pool with a self help Bar, which you stock yourself; a great system. Car Hire is neccesary due to the slightly remote location but there is also a restaurant within short walking distance (Catch a Fire). Georgetown is a 10 min drive away with small shops, Bars and 3 small supermarkets.

Bonefishing guides readily available as is flats wading a 40min drive away. Fishing is possible in the lagoon but not as prolific as the flats (I saw fish every time I went out but only 1 or 2) and very spooky. Norman was able to give all the top tips.

Least favourite thing was the mossies and no-seeums (sand flies), so you need plenty of deet/repellant,.

Best thing; Me, Fishing; my wife, the sun and relaxation (and the lobster curry in Catch a Fire).

If you want a family holliday where you can do some fishing; go here.
      We will be back

We stayed in the Blue Water Villa in the Cays and can say that it was a great experience. The house was clean and well equipped, we felt very welcomed. Thank you Norman and Julie! The common Bar and Pool area was great for drinks and relaxing. Tony's Catch a Fire bar and restaurant was a quick 2 minute walk next door- great place to grab a drink with good food for kids and the family.
Great Exuma was overall a wonderful vacation- the most beautiful remote beaches and friendly people! I would recommend this spot to everyone!

A little piece of luxury in the middle of paradise

Left on 05/22/2011 for a stay in May 2011

I almost feel like I shouldn't write a review because then people will find out about The Cays and Great Exuma and my vacation secret will get out! My wife and I stayed for a week on Great Exuma and rented the Coconut Cottage from Norman and his lovely wife. The villa was spotless and had everything we needed and then some. The master suite was great and it was really nice to have a washer and dryer. We enjoyed some nice time at the cabana talking to all the folks and getting attention from Haggis (hope you're better) and Rascal, two of the dogs that watch over The Cays. So many great stories and such welcoming hosts. They're there when you need them or if you have questions, otherwise it's like you're the only people on the island. Great Exuma is a true treasure, with mile after mile of turquoise water and beautiful beaches. Next time we go we'll buy more food at the market in town because some nights dinner can be tricky when restaurants are out of most of the menu items or are just plain closed. No matter — the villa has a beautiful full kitchen! If you're looking for beaches that are the most beautiful you've ever seen and have no other people on them, this is the place you want to go, and The Cays are where you want to stay! Stay away from that overpriced resort named after footwear and from the lame hotels near town and book a stay at The Cays. You will not be disappointed!

      Better than advertised

We reserved the Coconot cottage over the internet and we were a bit worried that it would not stand up to the pictures but it tourned out better. Norman and Julie went out of their way to make us feel welcome and made our stay a pleasant one.

The cottage was spacious and well furnished. The beach was a bit small and rocky but the nice sandy area just by the beach with hammocks and lounge chairs was more than enough. Our kids ran around chasing lizards and played hide and seek.

We rented a car and were only 10 minutes from Georgetown and the various restaurants/beaches. So all in all, it exceeded our expectations. If you are looking for peace and quiet in nice paradise like surroundings, that's the place to go!

Between the barking dogs at 7:30 in the morning and 9:00 at night it was far from relaxing. When we asked where a propnae tank was to use for a cookout ( as advertised when we rented ) Norman had told us that somoen had taken it and there wasn't a replacement available. He thought he was doing us a favor by 'lending' us his. The house was dirty. No working dishwasher and the refrigerator leaked. Took 2 hours just to clean the house. One out of three bathroom showers actually worked beyond a stream. For the money, I would stay at the Bonefish next time!

Response from The Cays Exuma Bahamas - 01/07/2011

      The Cays Exuma Bahamas

      Owner

We welome negative critisism, it assists us with improving our service. We are also sorry that you did not enjoy your stay at The Cays.

We do however believe that you have been unfair in your report.
The property you rented is not one that is included in our Flipkey rental programme, we merely meet and greet the guests that the owner secures. We attend to any problems that guests may have and offer advise on local places of interest, dining, activities etc. Unlike the fully managed properties on our rental progamme we have no control over the price that you were charged.

Had we had been made aware of the Diswasher, Fridge and Shower problems we would have rectified immediately. We are also very concerned that you felt the house was dirty, we have never had a complaint about cleanliness in the past, and in fact have been complemented on many occasions. We will however look into our cleaning procedures and make any changes that we feel are necessary.
Regardless of the source, responded immediately to your complaint about the Propane and provided some.

Once again we are sorry that you did not enjoy vacation here, and hope that if you visit Exuma again you will have a better experience.

      Great, relaxing location

Left on 01/01/2011 for a stay in December 2010

We stayed at the Coconut Cottage at The Cays in December. The house is great: Very well made, well furnished and a short walk to the pool and beach. Norman made us at home and was around to help with any questions but only when we asked him to. We had a rental car so transportation around Great Exuma was easy. The only problem was that we ignored the advice to use insect repellent our first day, and didn't notice the tiny sand flies that bite voraciously. After we learned that lesson everything was great. We highly recommend a boat tour to see the Thunderball Grotto and adjacent islands (we saw David Copperfield leaving his island), rent a boat to explore Elizabeth Harbour, and drive to the ends of the island to see amazing beaches and beautiful blue water that are wonderful to see.

      Beautiful home; exceeded expectations

Left on 11/04/2010 for a stay in December 2009

I wanted to mention that we enjoyed staying at the Cays in Great Exuma from Dec 28, 2009 to January 5 2010. Ann and Mike Walker were extremely pleasant to deal with, even before we set foot on the island. They were very accomodating with the reservations, the deposit and the balance. Once we arrived at the Cays, Ann personally escorted us to our home which wound up being an upgrade from the home we had contracted. No worries; Ann was happy to surprise us with this beautiful home! Three bedrooms and 3 baths (2 bedrooms had kingsized beds and ensuite baths) and one bedroom with 2 twin beds, perfect for the kids. (additional full bath in the hall) Washer and dryer, a/c, granite countertops, a huge deck that wrapped around the house, bottled water cooler...Ann also bought us some staples so we could have milk, juice and eggs in the fridge. While we were there we enjoyed taking our drinks down to the sunset bar and mingling with the homeowners, including Norman and Julie who live on site.
We rented a car so we were able to visit many beaches, but my husband enjoyed relaxing by the pool at the Cays.
If you want to rent a home (this was our first time; prior to this we rented condos that were part of hotels) do not fear! It was a great experience.

We also can recommends you somes places, for lunch or dinner(coconuts cove, peace and plenty,la shante, charley and also one very nice place on the beach with good foods and wonderfull owners (Elvis and Mary Ann Rolle)the "All occasion catering" totaly in the north end of Exuma (open saturday and sunday for lunch time,10 am to 6 pm).

      Great Hospitality and Fab Villas

Left on 12/29/2009 for a stay in December 2009

Booking a last-minute holiday at "The Cays" made
the Best Christmas Break we have had in Years.
Prior to booking we were given open and honest
advice from Ann (bookings) and it put us at ease
transferring the funds prior to travel. The little
airport at Georgetown is a breeze to use and in 10
minutes from landing we had got the rental car and
drove the 5 miles to the Cays.
On arrival we got the 10 minute tour of our lovely
3 bed 3 bath Villa and it was spotless, all the
cooking equipment was new and we only had to buy
food the next day, Tea/Coffee and Milk were kindly
provided to help us out as we arrived after the
shops closed. We were invited to the Peace and
Plenty for drinks and the evening with Mike and Ann
was a great start to the holiday.

The Cays is/was the project of Norman Wells who
lives on-site, the landscaping is done personally
by Norman to give each Villa a good degree of
privacy and the Pool/Beach area was enough to relax
in the Sun with the odd beer from the "Honour" Bar
if you need it. Everyone goes out of their way to
ensure you are looked after, a booklet on other
Beaches, directions, places to eat helped us
explore the Island some days but we were content to
      stay mostly on-site.
If you want to swim in the Sea in deeper water, you
will need to use the car and drive a few minutes to
one of the dozens of public access beaches on
      Exuma.

Go to the "Chat and Chill" on Stocking Island using
the water Taxi (12 dollars return fare) and enjoy a
      Goombay Smash with great food.
Charlies "Fish Fry" was tasty and simple.

The Cays is not a "resort" insofar that you do need
to have a Car to go out for dinners and grocery
shopping, it was however, very peaceful, private
and clean. Exactly as described only the Villas are
not done justice by the pictures. The Best Self-
Catering Holiday we have ever had!.We will be going
back and taking friends/family in 2010. Thanks to
Mike, Ann, Norman and Julie for making us welcome.

We throroughly enjoyed our stay at the Cays last year - everything was just perfect. The villa we rented was very comfortable, spacious and clean and provided the ideal accommodation for our stay.
The facilities at the Cays were excellent. Having the pool and beach area meant we never had to go far to enjoy the sun and swimming and having the bar onsite as well allowed us to sit by the pool either by day or night again without having to travel anywhere. All the facilities were very clean and safe - the pool, the bar area and the surrounding gardens which also added to the picturesque setting.
I would highly recommend a stay at the Cays to anyone and would definitely go back and spend another holiday there.

I was truly impressed with the Cays. My cameraman and my self stayed in one of the many luxurious homes that are on site. The home was spacious, clean and had all the amenities. My hosts Norman Wells and Mike Walker made sure that we had every thing that we needed to make our stay very comfortable. For great bone fishing and just plain old R & R I highly recommend the Cays.

      Great for families and fisherman

Since the birth of our daughter our vacation requirements changed. We needed a place where she could have her own room. We have been to many islands in the Bahamas and decided on trying Great Exmua after getting some good reports from friends. I found the Cays online and contacted Norman Wells, one of the owners. Between he and Mike and Ann they made me feel very comfortable about coming to their property. The Cays had everything we needed, Flats fishing, a nice pool and a car included.

The 3 bedroom house was perfect and fully equipped for our stay. Ann even got a crib for us. We were able to mix cooking at home and dining out. Be sure to plan you food shopping as the stores are best stocked after the shipments come in. The property was located on a quiet spot of coastline and it felt like a neighborhood with the other guests all gathering around the pool or at the bar for chats.

The car was crucial as Exuma is a big island and the best beaches and restaurants you have to drive to. Beaches were beautiful and uncrowded and dining was fantastic. The locals are friendly and willing to help with any questions you might have.

We are looking forward to returning to the Cays this winter and revisiting some of our favorite Exuma places.

After weeks searching for a holiday to suit my fishing mad husband and 2 teenage children whos only requirement was a pool, I came across this site, crossed my fingers and booked it. To say pleasantly surprised is the biggest understatement I could give. The Villa was fantastic, stunning kitchen, all mod cons, lovely furnature ,big, airy, air con, 3 bathrooms. I was thrilled to say the least. The grounds outside had beautiful tropical trees and shrubs all lovingly landscaped and nurtured by Norman, one of the cays owners. From your deck , where you can spend time sunbathing or reading you walk down a path through the lovely landscaping to the pool and bar area where we spent many hours chatting to the other guests watching the children in the pool and chilling as the sun went down over the sea. The fishing side for my husband was awsome, the best bonefishing in the world with a bonefish flat virtually outside the villa, it was the most happy and relaxed I had seen him in a long time. What made our time at the Cays so special were the people we met. Anne, Mike, Norman and Julie who own and run the Cays are the nicest most caring people you could meet who think only of making your stay as perfect as it can be and we would like to thank them for all their help and advise of where to go what to do and the kindness and friendship shown to us . We did not want to go back home and the first thing the chidren asked was can we go back for christmas. We will be going back to the Cays, as once you have found the perfect holiday why look anywhere else!

      The Cays Exuma, Bahamas-Highly Recommended

My first Visit to the cays was in the initial development phase and we stayed in one of the first properties built.
It has been nice to take my growing family back now a number of times to see thegreat progress that has been made.

You will be made to feel very welcome and will have the full benifit of all the on site facilities.
Need a car - all included as is the use of the Cays skiff if you feel like going out for a few hrs bonefishing. Located a 5 minute boat ride to the bonefish flats it everything a fisherman needs on a sportfishing holiday. With plenty to do arround the island for the rest of the family.
The beaches on exuma are of a very h igh standard and at times you can feel a million miles away from any other people.
Mike, Anee, Norman and Jules will ensure you have all you need for your stay.
      The accomodation is first class.
Where else can you sit at the bar whilst the kids are swimming and do a spot of shark fishing with a cold beer in hand.
The island guides are the best in the world and will ensure that a days fishing on the flats will be a very productive day out.

Make sure you visit stocking island for the sunday hog roast. a butifull island with a fantastic beach.
