We loved this villa and had a great time in Exuma. We originally planned to stay here for a week. After spending a couple of days we decided to extend to 10 days. The island is beautiful, the people are kind and generous, and the villa was great for relaxing and winding down after a day of activities around the island.
We rented a car from Thompson rentals and the car was waiting for us at the airport. Going around the island is extremely simple, there is one highway and everything branches out of it. You will be surprised how quick you can get used to driving on the left side of the road.
The privacy of the villa was the best part. We are a conservative family the villa was great for this.
Here are the major pluses:
- The pool was clean in the middle of a very beautiful tropical garden
- The backyard is beautiful and well maintained
- We did not see many insects inside the house (a couple got in here and there but nothing major)
- The house feels like home. A lot of what we needed is there already.
- The privacy was everything we wanted and more
- The brochures and guides in the house were extremely useful
- The internet was a bless (not as fast as the us but hey we are on an island :)
- The aC system worked all the time
- Electricity went out once and came back in a few minutes
- We felt safe and my daughter loved the space and the child friendliness of the house
There were issues here and there but Margot and arlen were responsive to our needs and made sure to fix quickly. I sent them a list of things that can be improved and they are already working on it.
We did not want to leave and we will be back isa.

We stayed at the vacation property from October 7th to 14th, 2012. We loved everything about the island of Great Exuma. From the ease of the flight from Toronto which was by far the lowest stress flight I have ever taken, to the car rental pick-up at the airport (they left the keys under the mat with our name written on a piece of paper in the window), to the people who were so friendly and helpful with a laid back island attitude, and the beautiful and secluded vacation house that was only a three minute drive from Grorge Town, that was exactly as advertised.
Our main goal on this trip was to Scuba Dive and experience the life under the sea. We were going to originally stay at the Sandals resort but once we found out that more often than not the watersports are closed at the resort, we decided on a vacation rental and diving with Dive Exuma in George Town (see separate review for Dive Exuma). This was one of the best decisions I ever made as we had the opportunity to drive around the island (it's so safe and as there is only one road so there's no chance of getting lost) see all the beaches, eat at great beach bars and grilles, meet some great people and still did 8 dives in the week we were there. The best part was the beautiful house with the private pool and no immediate neighbors, with the awesome lookout tower where we spent every sunrise (drinking morning coffee looking out to sea) and sunset (drinking a glass of wine watching the sun set over the tropical forest). All of this for the same price as the cheapest room at Sandals. Sure we had to cook for ourselves occasionally but the local stores are well stocked, with food and alcohol including drink mixes and Mamas bakery on Little Exuma had fresh bread, rolls, cakes and pasteries...and mama herself is such an incredible lady. We had great breakfasts and dinners sitting on the private pool deck and after a great day of scuba diving, island exploring and playing on the beach, a quiet dinner before falling into a comfortable bed was perfect. Then up early to do it all again.
On our flight back to Toronto most of the people on the flight had stayed at Sandals...they all had a good time and enjoyed themselves but never left the resort never ate the lobster at Santanas, the fried conch at Bi D's, lunch at the fish fry, didn't swim at the Tropic of Cancer beach and those that did visit Stocking Island paid a lot of money. We had the dive boat drop us off at Stocking Island and spent the afternoon hiking, sunbathing, eating conch salad and drinking Bahama Mamas. A water taxi took us back for $12 each!
An outstanding vacation...based on this fantastic experience I will no longer be doing the resort deal when I can rent a private piece of paradise. Highly recommend Great Exuma adn this rental...we will most definitely be back!Response from Mr. Mifflin - 11/27/2012

This a lovely villa, the rooms are very spacious and well appointed. The pool area is really pretty and there is some very high quality outdoor furniture. This is a great villa for two families traveling together, you can each have a section of the house and not disturb each other. There is a nice view of the water, but any decent beach is about 10 - 15 min drive. You are less than five min. from town, which has a few little restaurants, ferries , a couple of shops, gas station and a market. The main living room sofa is very low to the ground and would be hard for an older person to get up out of, only one of the cable boxes worked during our stay and a few things in the kitchen needed to be repaired. There were a number of little extra's that were nice about this place, they have some books, snorkeling stuff and some coolers for your island adventures, washer and dryer is super helpful!
They have a nice little book with lots of info regarding the island and local restaurants. All in all this villa is extremely nice for the price you pay! Security deposit was returned very quickly. -

My wife and I were extremely pleased with the accomodations of the Villa. Even on rainy days the villa afforded us with plenty to keep us busy and entertained. We highly recommend this place and are sure to return.

My sister and I just returned from a week stay at Ellie Mae Villa. We had thought we might feel lost in the huge house but immediately felt right at home and enjoyed every minute of our vacation. We loved the privacy of our own pool while enjoying the view of the ocean,(no sand!). The location was convenient for quick trips to Georgetown. We were quite happy to just stay "home" but did rent a car for a few day trips. We recommend Thompson Rentals, they dropped & picked up a car right at the house. All we can talk about is "When can we return"!
