Description from the manager
This great Mid-Coast Maine vacation rental is only an hour from Portland International Jetport, but yet a world away. The “camp” (as people from Maine call their cottages) is close to the beautiful sandy beaches and trails at Reid State Park, which boasts one of Mid-Coast Maine’s few and most beautiful flat sandy beaches, complete with sand dunes. The rental owner supplies the visitor’s pass to Reid to provide you a greater value. Georgetown is an island, but you are connected by a few short bridges and will think you are on a glacial peninsula.
The vacation rental is in the Five Islands section of Georgetown Mai...Read more

Cambridge, UKMagical location perfect for adults and children alike
Left on 11/01/2012 for a stay in October 2012
If you are looking for a'get away from it all' holiday in perfect tranquility and watch the moon rise over the wooded island and wake to the sound of birds this is the place. The accommodation is comfortable, but remember this is a country cottage and not the Hilton Hotel. We loved it and especially the wood burning stove to keep us warm in those October evenings.
Would we go back again - absolutely. -

Mendon, VTMaine Cottage: Fun Waterfront Getaway
Left on 09/09/2012 for a stay in July 2012
My family and I greatly enjoyed this Maine getaway. The owner was a pleasure to interact with, was very accommodating in helping us to prepare for our stay, and was easy to reach with questions while we were there. The cottage was quaint and had an old-fashioned charm. We loved the location of the cottage: in a pretty and private cove just minutes from Five Islands Wharf (awesome lobster), Reid State Park (beautiful beach), and Bath (shops and the Maritime Museum). The amenities were somewhat dated and in need of sprucing up but were adequate for our needs. Overall, it was a great place to vacation by the beautiful shores of Maine. We hope to return next summer!

Glad you and your family were able to enjoy Five Islands, Reid, and Bath - all great stops. I hope you'll be able to make it back next summer as well, and will check in with you before the season opens to get some input on where our amenities could use some more updating. Always like guest ideas. Thanks for staying with us in Maine.

Left on 07/20/2012 for a stay in June 2012
I have to tell you although we loved the location we were disappointed with the accommodations. The Cabin is incomplete at best. There were many concerns including the fan in the upstairs bedroom with wires & plastic hanging from it, (safety issue?). Also black plastic taped to the wall above the bed, not quite sure what that was all about. There are rotten railings on the side porch & the railing on the dock has fallen down. We ran out of gas in the grill & it cost $26.20 to have it filled. There were no citronella torches & very little oil. Because the cabin was closed up it must have been 100 degrees & smelled very strongly of moth balls. The bathroom & kitchen were fine although there were mouse droppings in some of the kitchen drawers.
I feel the $200.00 per night price for this cabin way too expensive. Georgetown is very similar to where we live in Pennsylvania & we have rented many cabins for less than this that were much nicer. I believe you misrepresent the cabin on your web site & that the price is too expensive.

Wow, I'm so surprised and saddened to see that you were disappointed and felt that we even misrepresented the cottage. I have contacted the guest to see if we can make this right for the future.
We've been renting the place since 1999 and have never had this kind of feedback before. That said, all feedback is important and deserves careful consideration, so we will look into these issues and solve all that we can.
Prospective guests let me address each issue for you to see (I take this very seriously and just contacted my housekeeper and caretaker to get on these first thing in the morning). Please know that had the guest called I would have addressed all of these at the beginning of her stay.
-the plastic was over a whole house fan covered in winter that our caretaker must not have removed - I believe this was removed after AT's stay, but have reminded him in case
-all wiring is to code and we are very safety conscious
-all railings will be inspected and replaced as needed - was unaware of any rotted or broken railings
-the gas grill is "self serve" and that is very clear in our contract, that said we usually leave a back up tank - will be sure one is there tomorrow and would done same for this guest
-we supply citronella torches but someone apparently used 2 gallons of fuel in our fire pit; our caretaker has purchased new torches & fuel, we recommend all guests bring bug repellent to Maine
-we have to use moth balls in the winter, however, I'll have every piece of furniture moved to be sure there are none lingering
-mouse droppings are inexcusable - the entire place will be recleaned deeply in the morning (we have also treated again for pests)
-integrity is everything to me, and I would never intentionally mis-represent the place. $200/night for 3 bedrooms on the water over the busy july 4 holiday weekend is a fair price, but the issues the guest presents are real, and I wish I had the opportunity to give redress while she was still there.
If you are ever dissatisfied with your lodgings, and the problems are things that could be fixed, I beg you to call your host and give them a chance to make things right.
Again, I'm so sorry this guest had a disappointing experience. -

Iowa City, IAWonderful fall getaway
Left on 10/13/2011 for a stay in September 2011
My sister and I chose Georgetown to be near the haunts we frequented 50-60 years ago as children during summers in Maine and to be on the water rathr than a daytrip away as we were as kids. Our trip met all our expectations and introduced us to much more.
This well-equipped cottage on the Little Sheepscot tidal estuary overlooks the comings and goings of working lobster boats. It is a picture-perfect view best enjoyed by breakfast and dinner on the expansive deck. The cottage is privately situated at the end of a long winding new blacktop through dense woods ending in the spectacular waterfront.
We had everything we needed to cook in, and there were wonderful places to eat out within a few miles--the Georgetown Warf and the Osprey.
Late September was an ideal time to visit this year. It was warm--in the 70s--most days, leaves were just barely beginning to turn, and it was even warm enough to wade in the ocean at Reid State Park, a favorite from our childhood summers. The free pass provided with the cottage made that easier.
The beds are very comfortable and the comforters provided make nights cozy. The stairway to the 2nd floor bedrooms is long and steep, but there is a big bedroom on the 1st floor.
Besides some of the obvious places to visit in the region, we recommend Halcyon Yarns, a big but warm and friendly wholesale and retail yarn store in Bath. (We visited 3 times in a week.)BBC was there one day we were there to film a piece on the business owner who encourages employees to bring their young children to work. The Farnsworth Museum in Rockland, located in several beautifully restored or renovated buildings downtown, had a fascinating exhibit on andrew Wyeth's famous painting, Christina's World. There were preliminary sketches and paintings made elsewhere on Christina's farm as well as lots of information about back story of the painting. Alas the painting itself was not there.

I feel fortunate to host a sisters' reunion of sorts as my own sister and I have been making memories at our cottage now for years...2011 some of the most interesting. I haven't been to the cottage myself for fall yet and am anxiously awaiting 2013 when I'll no longer have kids at home in school during September...
Thanks for the information on Halcyon, as it's one of those places I've never visited. I think the Farnsworth Museum is one of America's hidden gems, and well worth the side trip. Hope to host you again and thank you for leaving such detailed, useful information for guests to come. -

Champaign, IL--a delight--
Left on 10/05/2011 for a stay in September 2011
Melinda made the reservation process clear & simple ; she demonstrated real follow-through and flexibility. Additionally, the family's thoughtfulness was evident throughout the cottage.
We enjoyed how clean the cottage was and how many thoughtful details had been arranged--incl. a mosquito shield net @ the door and a small laundry drying rack--in case of rain.
The location afforded us a chance to explore Georgetown in greater depth than we had in earlier years. The pass for Reid State Park was esp. helpful--what a lovely place that is.
We were delighted to see the various books highlighting possibilities along the coast--and inland, too. Far too muah do actually accomplish this September.
We appreciated the recommendation to try Gray Haven Inn's restaurant, The Blue. Delicious.
As ever, Robinhood Free Mtng House provided a special treat dinner. Those cream cheese biscuits: wow.
And the folks @ the Georgetown Country store were friendly and helpful--good coffee, too!
Of course, the Georgetown Lobstermen's Co-op provides the freshest seafood possible. Baskets of lobsters were off-loaded from the boat as we waited. Plus, Annabelle's ice cream there on the wharf is perfection plus. Try some.
Most of all we enjoyed just sitting on the deck watching the fog descend & rise, noting the lobster boats coming & going, observing the industrious chipmunks & various birds passing through--just plain fun.
If you want to be closer to townlife this might not be your spot, but if you love seacoast granite, observing wildlife & seabirds, ever-changing seawater and a bit of marvelous alone time, this is just perfect.

Thank you so very much for the thorough review of our Maine cottage. We haven't tried Blue at Grey Haven's yet, but it came highly recommended from our local friend, so it's on our list for the next visit. So great to share our special slice of Maine with you. Come back any time!

We had an awesome time at this cottage in Georgetown! It is just as advertised and really comfortable. Georgetown is very quiet over labor day and the Reid State Park pass is a huge bene of this rental! It was also great to be able to rent for a couple nights rather than only a whole week. We hope to come back in the future for a whole week!

Thanks for staying with us over your holiday weekend - we love Reid State Park too, and after 12 years of visiting, there's always something new. Looking forward to hosting you for longer next time.

Left on 08/30/2011 for a stay in August 2011
We were excited, and happy to be able to return this year. Our last stay seemed so short, and as it turns out, this year's stay felt the same. Fantastic location for Privacy, relaxation, for "winding" down from the Hectic norm. Great weather, only one day of rain, but plenty to do in Bath/Wiscasset area on a rainy day. A notable 'change' since our last stay-Being greeted in the Morning by a Chipmunk we named "Dale" on the deck for breakfast! "Dale" likes Peanuts, Sunflower seeds, and Bread/rolls, and is the friendliest Chipmunk we've ever seen. He'll eat right out of your hand once he get's comfortable! Note: Nighttime on the Dock is one of the most Peaceful, and relaxing places I've found to sit and "zone". Thanks, we'll be looking to schedule another trip back next year.

We can't wait to have you back again! It's nice to know that other families are creating great memories. Dale has been visiting with us a few years (how long do chipmunks live?), be we call him Chippy. Now we know why he loves our deck: the food.

Granby,CTsmall cozy cottage in a great location
Left on 08/24/2011 for a stay in August 2011
If you are looking for a place to really have some together time, this is perfect! The cottage is small with no tv and very limited internet access, so our usually distracted teenagers were forced to interact with the family - exactly what we wanted! And there is plenty to do - kayaking was a blast, crabbing, fishing, Reid park is beautiful and a short drive away. If it rains, the cottage is full of games and puzzles and Freeport and Portland are only about 35-45 minutes away. We had a wonderful vacation and loved the location of this property!
The only downside was the cleanliness of the cottage. It looked like it had been surface cleaned ( toilet, kitchen wiped down, swept in open areas) But had not been dusted or thoroughly cleaned in some time. Hopefully they hire a new cleaning service and that will improve.Response from BETTER Vacation Rentals - 08/25/2011

It's great to hear you and your family enjoyed our place so much. We find even teens enjoy being unplugged for a while if there is enough fun to be had.
Regarding the cleanliness...after you mentioned these issues and we talked I have spoken with our housekeeper/caretaker about the specific items you mentioned and reminded them that they have to look and clean under beds every time, and do more than just a surface cleaning. If I had known earlier, I would have sent her back to do it right. The housekeeper is trusted, and rarely makes a mistake, but I apologize it wasn't perfect. Next time you come, I've made a note to waive the cleaning fee. -

Great cabin with great waterfront views. Beds are extremely comfortable. Fire pit is awesome. Like the availability of 2 kayaks. Wonderful place for a get away. Nothing nearby so if you like shopping, restaurants etc this is not for you. It's more like camping 'luxury' style!

Townsend, DelawareRelaxing trip to Maine
Left on 06/28/2010 for a stay in June 2010
We enjoyed our vacation at this Maine cottage. I found the location to be far from the main roads. We took a few day trips to see other parts of Maine and just to get to a major road was a 25-30 minute ride. The house was small but everything you need is there. We really enjoyed the outside of this home. It is a beautiful view from the house. My children enjoyed kayaking and playing outside. They tried fishing from the dock but didn't catch any fish. Overall the house is a true get away from it all, very relaxing.
