Description from owner

Description

Our setting will capture your attention and inspire you. Located within easy driving distance of Georgetown, Austin, UT, the Texas Hill Country, and Salado, you are close to all the recreation activities you desire.

The Studio at Scurlock Farms is a charming artist's studio on the outskirts of Georgetown, Texas offering beautiful long range views of the San Gabriel River bottom from an elevated wooded bluff. The farm has 1/2 mile of river frontage and the river itself is about a 2 block hike from The Studio.

Deep in the heart of Texas, down a country lane, and in the middle of an 111 acre working farm, The Studio has pastoral tranquility while also allowing you to enjoy all that Austin has to offer just 30 minutes away. Stay here and go in to enjoy a UT game, SXSW music festival, Aquafest, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, or the Bob Bullock TX Museum where you can experience a true taste of Texas culture.

Georgetown has its own art and music festivals, such as Festival of the Arts, Red Poppy Festival (April), Downtown Christmas Stroll (December), and the First Saturday on the Square days - vendors set up all around the square with their crafts, plants and homemade goodies. You may choose to explore the InnerSpace Caverns, or hike or bike the miles of trails around town or Lake Georgetown.

The Studio also makes an ideal home base for day trips to wineries in the local area as well as in the Hill Country, to see and photograph wildflowers and go shopping or antiquing.

Within walking distance to the San Gabriel River, the restored studio is on a working farm. See horses, cows and goats and feel your stress melt away as you inhale the freshly mown hay from the pasture. Relax surrounded in rustic beauty with a clear view of the night sky and stars, perfect for stargazing. Pick up pecans if you'd like. Archaeology buffs can hunt the limestone river banks for a variety of fossils or the hillside for Tonkawa and Cherokee Indian arrowheads. We have many birders stop along the property trying to catch site of the many species we have seen on the farm. Visit our blog for a list of those we have seen.

Maybe you'd prefer to have a campfire and weenie roast on the banks of the river? Practice your casting in the San Gabriel or sit on the bank and watch the catfish and bass swim by. Make yourselves at home while you are in our care.

Spring is right around the corner and the wildflowers and bluebonnets will be popping out soon. When fall is in the air, its a great for leaf peeping and photographing migrating birds.

The river rock structure was hand crafted by famed Texas landscape artist C. P. Montague and her husband. The original owner used the studio to create and display thousands of the Texas Hill Country landscapes for which she was known. Many of her works were completed while sitting at her easel at the wall of 7' northern exposure windows. Bring your palette and paints, you'll be inspired too! This private, non-smoking accommodation is wonderful for writing, painting, honeymooning or simply getting away from it all.

The Studio amenities will make your Hill Country vacation a memorable one. The open living area is comfortably furnished with seating in front of the fireplace and rock hearth; unlimited firewood is provided. The dining table has seating for four, and the fully appointed kitchen boasts new appliances. The Queen bed - linens furnished - promises sweet dreams. The bathroom with shower has fluffy spa towels, paper goods and soap. All you need to bring are your personal items. With several good restaurants in nearby downtown Georgetown, groceries are optional. Brew up coffee, tea or hot chocolate in the morning and enjoy the Continental breakfast of fresh homemade muffins and fresh fruit provided for you. Eat in at the dining table or enjoy your meal outdoors in the seating area overlooking the bluff.

Numerous excellent camping, hiking, fishing and water related activities can be found at Cedar Breaks, Jim Hogg and Russell parks, all located around Lake Georgetown. Southwestern University is just a few minutes drive away, and is located next to the public-friendly Kurth-Landrum Golf Course and Tennis Courts. It's a short drive to the Round Rock Outlet Mall, including IKEA, and to Del Webb's Sun City.

Regardless of what you chose to do each day, when the days are done, The Studio is a great place to return to to sit in front of the fire at night and enjoy a glass of wine, or sit in the shade under the oaks and enjoy the serenity and beauty of the farm. You and your loved one will have the best seat in the house to watch the spectacular sunsets to the West. The Studio is a perfect getaway for one or two. You'll be so comfortable that you will never want to leave.

Call now to reserve your weekend or week for a secluded Winter getaway, Spring bluebonnet and wild flower photography opportunities, Summer wildflowers, or a Fall leaf peeping season.

Response from the owner I am so glad you enjoyed your stay in The Palette Pad at Scurlock Farms! The views are fantastic and there is so much to do on the farm. The baby goats are being born now - 15 last week, and guests love holding them! We would love to have you visit us again - maybe to escape and get a break from your cold Minnesota winter?
