The owners take great pride in the casual, laid back comfort of this true beach house which we all remember from our childhood. This extra wide lot with instant beach access provides unimpeded ocean views from Litchfield and Garden City Beaches on the north to North Inlet on the south. The beachfront decks provide incredible sunrise and full moon views and the sunset view from the back porch and higher on the open deck atop the crow's nest is unparalleled. AshevilleAnother great time at the Thomason House!
Left on 07/29/2010 for a stay in July 2010
It is a great oceanfront house that still keeps it's beachy and homey appearance. This year, the house looked more maintained than last year. As an older property, it looks good, but is not like a brand new house. You have to stay there to appreciate it's quaintness.

This house worked very well with the # of people and age of people in our family. We especially liked how close to the beach.

Asheville, NCWe are long time Thomason house fans!
Left on 09/04/2009 for a stay in July 2009
We started going to the Thomason house 15 years ago. There were a couple of summers that we did not go because of vacation week changes. We would stay at other houses until we finally got back to the Thomason house. The Thomason house is an older style house which we love - a really laid back charm. It has had times when it looked great and times when it did not look as well kept . This time, we noticed that the house needed some major tlc. Paint is peeling off of the outside wood trim,a screen door was off and the bathroom in the queen room to the left as you enter the house had mildew around the tub. There seems to be trash around the house and under the deck. I have not seen this at other houses. I know that it is hard to keep an older property up and it is expensive. But with the price of the rent being higher, I feel that the house should at least be clean and be kept in good condition. If the economy gets worse, I fear that the Thomason house will not be chosen in it's current condition for a vacation rental. We love this house and have a lot of fond memories here. We will continue to come to the Thomason house for our annual family beach vacation because we love the style and the location. Hope to find it in better overall condition next year.

Since this review the owners have painted the entire outside; replaced most of the upstairs living room furniture; replaced a number of mattresses; bought a new refrigerator upstairs; re-arranged the downstairs play area furniture which now includes 2 sofas, one of which is a queen size sleeper; bought a new kitchenette table and chairs; removed the trundle bed downstairs; and replaced all porch furniture on both porches.

DeBordieu rental staff was sincere and helpfull.
The house was standard beach house fare, no better or worse than Litchfield, Pawleys or Garden City, just more expen$ive.
DeBordieu grounds are fantastic, the ultimate!
The beach was perfect for long walks day or night.
Clean, just wonderfull. Well worth the extra $$.
However, a maintenance crew disturbing our bit of paradise was too much for us one afternoon.
They showed up one to apply paint 'test' colors to the house. We drove up to find strange people outside our house, and were a bit concerned having 3 young ladies in the house alone.
We were never contacted to alert us to the fact that we would have visitors.
When I contacted the rental office, I could tell by the dissapointment in the girls voice that she knew who I was talking about, and her reply that 'yes those guys do the house upkeep'.
On our last Friday, with the 10am checkout, they showed up and started painting at 7:30am. So we lost our final beach walk, and literally carried our luggage down the front stairs while they were being worked on.
The downstairs has only 2 br/ba not 3 as listed. The 3rd was a spare for us, we did not need it, however the maintenance crew leader told us that one of his guys stayed in the locked 3rd bedroom as repairs were being done.
So if you need all 6br/ba, they might not be available.
I have been doing the house rental vacations for some time now, and this was onr of the most dissapointing.
Sounds to me like absentee owners who dont care too much about $5800. per week CUSTOMERS.
I would go back to Debordieu tomorrow, however not to this house.Response from DeBordieu Rentals - 07/17/2010

Our office was unaware of any maintenance that had been scheduled. The guest alerted us of the situation after the fact. Had the owner informed us of the repairs, we would have scheduled it around the guests. We have contacted both the contractor and homeowner and they have promised their cooperation in the future. The third bedroom is located in a private suite downstairs. We were unaware the guest could not locate the third bedroom.

Franklin, TennesseeLocation was fabulous!

The size of the house was satisfactory for our family. The children enjoyed being able to walk right out to the beach. We appreciated having the beds made and towels to use. The kitchen was a good size, however, the refrigerator was not cold enough and our milk and meat spoiled. The refrig downstairs had a very strong odor of fish and could not be used for food or drinks. Screen doors were in bad shape and air conditioning unit went out during our week. It was repaired the next day though and we appreciated the quick response. We loved the view and the front and back decks were in constant use.
