We've been coming to this beach for over 20 years and this is the best oceanfront location we have seen. It is within a few feed of the seawall with a deep beachfront. No erosion issues here! It is also next door to the Beach Club, which was nice too.
The amenities are fine, the rooms comfortable. The design of the unit is really quite interesting - it is kind of like an overturned ship's hull inside. This was the source of a lot of aimless, fun talk throughout the week. The patio was a favorite spot to side after the sun went down - big time chill zone. The master bedroom has a great retreat zone for parents overlooking the dune. The screened porch was terrific on the day it rained.
Cons - the patio furniture is starting to dry rot and fall apart. One chair was history when we got there and the rocker went down about mid-week. Internet connectivity really was fickle - the wireless did not really cover the unit, and there were many deadzones (frustrating, really). The unit is next to the beach walkway, so there was a lot of foot traffic to and from the beach. It didn't bother me at all, but some folks might not like it. There was no way to play music on the stereo inside. The CD player would not work. The TV also only has Hdmi inputs, so the DVD players in the unit can't be hooked up. We were able to hook up a laptop, but listening through laptop speakers was kind of a drag.
Other - The water heater started leaking towards the end of our stay - and leaked through the floor into the kitchen below. Maintenence responded within 10 minutes and stabilized the situation quickly. I was very satisfied with their response.
Bottom line - I recommend this unit! Hopefully the owner will replace the patio furniture and sort out the tecnhology issues inside.

DeBordieu Rentals is very knowledgeable and are friendly to work with. We like the home as it suits our family's needs - its proximity to the beach is excellent. The location is great and all our needs are met. The house has a nice beach decor and as I said, the closeness to the beach is a big assest.

Debordieu is a excellent vacation due to the unspoiled, uncrowded beaches. The walking/biking trails are great for the family to enjoy. Excellent golf and tennis facilities. The home in which we stayed was excellent for it's value, access to the beach and pool, and comfort.

Shaken, because I am used to a higher level of quality when I rent at DeBordieu.
Not stirred, because the island itself will bring me back.
I enjoyed my stay immensely, the island was beautiful, the community inviting, the club amenities first-class, the realty staff highly efficient and friendly. This property, 230 Seaside Haven, needs attention, however.
1) Foremost, it was not clean. Dead bugs, dust, some dirt, the middle of everything was vacuumed, but that's where the work stopped. The corners, edges, periphery, all dirty.
2) The dishwasher, if not broken, was most difficult. Consequently, there were dirty dishes in the cupboards that had been put up for reuse. We had to rewash before we used anything.
3) I paid in excess of $500.00 per night to stay here. You would think we could have been issued more than one bar of soap per bath, as there is one sink and one tub per bath, both requiring soap. There was no soap at the kitchen sink.
4) This home is way too cluttered. I hate to include this because I realize it is just that, a personal second home, and the owners have their own tastes. However, if you're going to rent, please don't clutter it so much. All of the flat surfaces where I would have liked to place some of my personal stuff were full. I have never been in a rental that had so much junk, I'm sorry I shouldn't be judgemental, rather stuff laying around and filling up space in the rooms. It was as if clean space violated morality. If I were really into Feng Shui I would have jumped out the window and run down the beach screaming.
Anyway, you asked for it, so I am being brutally honest. Will this effect my coming back to DeBordieu? No, I will certainly be back if I am staying a week and need a few bedrooms for family, but if it is just my wife and me, I know for sure that for the price I paid the Sanctuary at Kiawah will get more of our business.
Thanks for providing space to vent.

My staff and I wish to extend our humblest apologies for the condition in which the guest reported finding their rental home. The description given does not meet our housekeeping standards. Unfortunately, the guest did not notify our office of any issue they discovered. Had they simply called us, we would have had the housekeeping staff clean the home again, and guaranteed their satisfaction. Once notified, we placed a service call for the dishwasher. We would have preferred handling this as well when it was discovered.
I must also offer our apologies that the guest did not find their starter supplies to be sufficient. For the guests’ convenience, our rentals are supplied with a starter supply of toilet tissue, soap and detergent. This allows the guest to settle in before they have to go shopping. This information is relayed to the guest on multiple opportunities. We will give greater attention in communicating this information to our guests.
It is unfortunate that the guest and the homeowner have such differing taste. Our homeowners try to make each property feel like home. However, to insure our guests understand how a home is decorated, there are multiple interior photos of practically every room in the Villa. We hope the guest decides to return to DeBordieu. If there is a problem, I hope they will let us know. We will do everything humanly possible to make their stay enjoyable.
