Outdoor space wonderful... indoor space not so wonderful

Left on 08/22/2012 for a stay in August 2012

Upon arriving to the house at 3:30 pm we found that it wasn't completely ready for us. Immediately we were inundated with an ungodly stench from the kitchen. We bought scented candles and fans to make the kitchen semi-livable. The laundry room next to the kitchen smelled just as bad. On day 3 we were welcomed with huge black ants in the utensil drawers. In order to keep the utensils sort of sanitized we placed them in the sink. I understand that a "Lake house" has bugs but to have them crawling all over the kitchen is a bit too much. The dishwasher wasn't attached to the wall and nearly fell on top of my daughter. I did phone this complaint in to the rental management company. The kitchen was not properly stocked. One frying pan is not going to cut it for a family of 10. The bathrooms had a grimy feel so much so that my kids were creeped out by the bathroom upstairs. The furnishings were new and comfortable in the family room and bedrooms. I zillowed this house and it was appraised for 1 million dollars..this did not feel like a million dollar home. The one and only wonderful thing about this house was its private beach and large dock on the lake. For the amount of money we spent for the renting of this house you would expect a decent kitchen. If I were to rent this house again I would only do so if the rent was less and/or the kitchen updated or completely remodeled to get rid of the noxious odors.

Perfect house for our family vacation

Left on 07/26/2012 for a stay in July 2012

We found the size, layout, and style of this home to be a perfect fit for the number of people in our family group. It was excellent.
Both inside and outside spaces were comfortable in every way. Having a motorboat with us, it was an easy spot to use part of the dock, leaving plenty of waterfront available for both children and adults. We also used our sailboat, but were able to rent a slip close by to make sailing easy (getting that to the cottage would not have been easy).
Close proximity also to grocery stores & restaurants was helpful.
We had two housekeeping issues that we feel should be raised. First, a Viking range in the kitchen should be really wonderful, but you're very lucky this one didn't burn the house down!! We found the grease pan under the griddle overflowing with grease--it could not have been cleaned this year. Luckily we found it, cleaned that and the griddle, and used it successfully. Secondly, all the windowsills were dirty, and though we certainly don't expect perfection, this much dirt when opening windows is very unappealing.
One small thing was that we didn't initially know how to change the water jugs in the kitchen and a card with directions would have been helpful.
Dealing with Preferred Rentals was easy and we thank you for your part in making the vacation easy and enjoyable.

      good

Left on 09/07/2010 for a stay in August 2010

The location of property 515 is all it has going for it. We have stayed at several houses arranged through Preferred Vacation Rentals and this property ranks the lowest in supplies, amentities and maintenance of the property. We have stayed in 515 for three successive summers and it is apparent the owners haven't invested a penny in improving the property in that time. The kitchen supplies are sparse ( and I have thrown out dishes, cutlery and pots and pans in better condition than what is in this house). The TV gets minimal channels (can't even watch the red sox). The decking and railings are in poor condition. With a little investment of work and money it could be a premier property. As is, it is way below the standards of other Winnepesauke lakefront properties.

Thank you for bringing these items to our attention. We have updated the owner with your comments and he has been able to address several of the items to improve the condition of the property and make sure that the kitchen is better equipped. Great location!

Great location, and a great value for the amenities!

If the house was air conditioned it would be perfect!
