    Additional Location Information

Glen Ellen is a small town off the beaten track in the Heart of Sonoma County. Visitors are primarily from local Bay Area communities, but some are from across the country as well. International visitors are still rare.

Its most famous citizen was Jack London, who wrote much of his work on his “Beauty Ranch” in Glen Ellen. It is now a state park, a museum, and a great place to visit.

The property is 4 minutes walking from Glen Ellen's center, or less then a minute driving. It feels like you're out in the wine country with its olive trees and four gnarly old vines out in the front while being close to world-class restaurants, a gourmet market, and various tasting rooms or a massage place inside of a gigantic and (thankfully) empty wine barrel.

Glen Ellen is at the heart of the Sonoma Valley and the Valley of the Moon district, and as much about wine as about winding down.

It is the perfect alternative to the bustle of modern Sonoma or the tourism of Napa - you will find a quiet spot full of 19th century brick buildings, tiny cottages and picket fences, and with enough natural beauty to recall an older, simpler version of the valley.

Some of the rich vistas and rolling hills are little changed since attracting Jack London, the author who bought his "Beauty Ranch" in 1905 and took up farming: "All I wanted was a quiet place in the country to write and loaf in and get out of Nature that something which we all need, only the most of us don't know it," he wrote.

Whether you're going wine tasting, are curious about Sonoma's artisan olive oils, or dedicated to filling your lungs with enough fresh air to get your outdoor fix, Glen Ellen's comfortable pace will almost make you forget there is a busy side to life.

A century after he settled here, Jack London would still be at home. Now you can make it yours too ...
