My mom died peacefully and we needed a place to gather our family, grieve, eat, and just be together. It was truly last minute, and the owner, Will, made it happen (he wasn't planning on getting the house ready and he was traveling too). Everyone was impressed with the place and we were all comfortable.

San Francisco, CAGreat Place for a Family Reunion
Left on 10/06/2012 for a stay in September 2012
I rented The Davis House for a family reunion and to attend the Ryder Cup in Medinah, IL. This is a beautiful old house in a very quiet neighborhood location. It’s very close to the town of Glen Ellyn, which is very cute and has several nice restaurants and shops. The house itself is very old but has a modern kitchen with a beautiful old farm-type table that could handle all of us at once. The master bedroom is huge and has a large bathroom with a walk-in shower and a bathtub with whirlpool. The other two bedrooms upstairs share a single bath. The second bedroom is large and comfortable, but the third bedroom is very small, with a single bed and a trundle pullout. This bedroom was not very comfortable for the third couple. It would be fine for two children though. We also enjoyed the outside deck where there was a large table and chairs, as well as a large barbecue grill. The property was clean and the owner was responsive.

New JerseyMagical experience that we will never forget.

I rented the Davis house for me and my family for part of the summer. The only way I can decribe the experience was heavenly. The house isn't just a destination, it is a living piece of history and art. When we weren't spending the afternoon on the lemonade porch swing enjoying breeze and looking out upon the elaborate gardens, we were picking concord grapes off the vines that grew athwart the arched iron trellis. And if that wasnt enough, our experience was truly transformed 200 years into the long past as the kids collected the grapes I taought them how to make grape jelly in anb old world french country kitchen.(By the way, William, we left you some jelly in a glass jar in the fridge.) Another pleasant surprise was the town of Glen Ellyn was only a 10 minute walk to town, and what an odorable antique town this was! While we were there, Glen Ellyn hosted an art and music festifal in town which was the icing on the cake. This house desives special accoloades and recognition and deserves the title of being called the 1892 landmark Davis Farm house.

Walnut Creek, California, United StatesOwners description was not correct
Left on 08/09/2012 for a stay in July 2012
Owner appears to be more concerned about his many personal items and collections scattered all over this home than the comfort of guests. However, our primary complaint was that he overstated number of bedrooms and bedcount which made it a very uncomfortable stay, especially 2 older family members who would have liked privacy of their own room/bed. After we left we brought this to his attention and it appears that his numbers have been adjusted. However, he refused to provide any rental adjustment. Additionally, many lights did not work, kitchen sink is very clumsy to use and staircase to 2nd floor very steep and difficult to navigate even for younger guests ---not at all accessible for anyone with mobility issues.

Owner
We assure you that our #1 goal is for you to have a memorable and comfortable stay at the Davis House. All of our beds are of high quality and we use only high thread count linens. Our library which was originally a bed room can serve if needed as a 4th bed room.At the time that these guests were there one couple slept in the King bed in the master. For the other 5 guests there was 2 single beds, a queen and a full. As we are only a phone call away we have gladly brought in a hotel roll away bed to accommodate another guests. There was also 2 single Aero beds for them on the premises. Our collections are for our guests to enjoying seeing and an important part of the homes charm. Our lighting is mostly European or antiques and all of our lighting works. We do leave replacement bulbs in case they are needed. Our kitchen is quite amazing with our LaCanche triple oven stove. Our sink is great as it is a soap stone Farm sink over looking the Fountain courtyard. Our staircase is original to the house and normal for an 1892 Victorian Farm House. It has 3 landing steps and the original hand rail all the way up. To view more reviews please go to VRBO. The Davis House is an amazing place and we look forward to having as our guests!
Yours Sincerely,
William Harty,

We have used vacation rentals many times over the years for family vacations across the country. This one was special. My husband and I grew up in the area. As a resident, I always wondered what it would be like to live in one of the grand historic homes in Glen Ellyn. I finally got to experience this first hand and it did not disappoint! This home is meticulously restored with respect to age, era and architecture. The grounds reflect the owner's passion for gardening and are reminiscent of a professionally landscaped preserve. The front porch swing was a favorite spot of my 10-year-old who's main interest typically involves a screen and power source. I'd find him out there just watching the birds and taking in the beauty of the garden. We elected to entertain most evenings rather that go out with family and friends simply because the home's atmosphere was tough to beat. The kitchen with it's big country sink, french stove, and authentic farmhouse table became an instant gathering place. The house was roomy, the bedrooms comfortable, and the master shower... well lets just say I'll be sending cards. My favorite spot was the turret off the master bedroom. I struggled to concentrate on the novel I brought to read as I took in the views from the 6-or-so windows among the trees. Location-wise, I was walking distance to Lake Ellyn, downtown (I actually got the kids to walk to the farmers' market) and family. The house is nestled in one of the most picturesque residential areas anywhere. I would highly recommend this home to anyone. The owner was a delight, the home a perfect suburban location, and the experience, beyond expectations.

We came from SC for our son's wedding in Wheaton. I found the Davis House on Vrbo.com What a find!! The house is nestled in a beautiful neighborhood in Glen Ellyn. The gardens and landscaping make it so inviting. The house was such a great gathering spot for our family and friends who had come to the wedding from all over the United States. We hosted several dinners from the incredible kitchen and folks were amazed at the immenities in the home! All the different seating areas in the house made it perfect for pockets of people to visit with each other. The shower in the master bath was an incredible surprise and we enjoyed the rain shower immensely. We enjoyed the train rides into the city and the surrounding communities. We met the owner while tending the gardens. He has a gracious heart and welcoming spirit. I highly recommend this home to vacationers!
