Panoramic views to the Mountains in the Cairngorms National Park, Pets welcome. Our 4 cottages are set on a hillside within farmland with lots of open space in Glenlivet. We had a very enjoyable stay at Bluefolds Cottages. The cottage was very comfortable and the scenery was breath-taking. Steve was a wonderful host, nothing was too much trouble for him and what he doesn't know about Whisky isn't worth knowing!
We spent a week skiing and travelled round the Cairngorms and Ben Nevis and after a day's skiing it was lovely to come home and relax in comfortable surroundings. The cottages are fully equipped and very clean.
We intend to go back in the summer.

Glasgow, United KingdomBeautiful views but remote
Left on 09/30/2012 for a stay in September 2012
Bluefolds has beautiful views over Glenlivet. The cottage is fastidiously maintained, the kitchen is well-equipped, and the coal fire warms the space very well. The stone walls and double glazing mean the cottage is cosy even in really stormy weather (we tested this). The walks over the hills are lovely.
On the downside, we hadn't realised there were three holiday lets in the one building so the rooms were smaller than we were expecting - we really should have studied the description on the website more carefully. The internal walls are thin and not particularly soundproof, and the upstairs floors are creaky. The road leading to the cottage is best described as "rugged". It's a long drive from the cottage to get anywhere.
While the owners and neighbours couldn't have been more friendly and helpful, it's not a place we'd visit again.Response from Elizabeth & Steve Oliver - 11/11/2012
Owner
We are glad that you enjoyed the views and sorry that you found the cottage too remote. The website makes clear that the cottage is 9 miles in either direction from the nearest small town. In the 13 years that we have owned and operated the cottages, no one has mentioned thin internal walls. The road stops at the farm about 1/2 mile from the cottages and then it becomes a track which is maintained by us. Due to bad weather, part of the track had been damaged and we are in the process of upgrading it. Our cottages are particularly enjoyed by people who want to get away from it all or enjoy walking in the hills and the wonderful wildlife around. We are sorry that our cottage did not meet your expectations.

Left on 06/21/2012 for a stay in June 2012
The service from Elizabeth and Steve was first class
The home was superbly well equipped and warm (even in June it needed to be!)with comfortable beds and good bathroom facilities.
Fabulous views all round and an ideal location for visiting whisky distilleries, walking, local attractions (such as Ballindalloch Castle), and less than an hour from the fishing villages of Moray.
The best part was knowing that we had picked a great home to come back to at the end of a long day out and about. The lack of a WiFi or adsl internet facility was both a plus and a minus point! The access track might not suit very low slung cars but we managed fine in a Bluemotion Golf, which is ler than average.Response from Elizabeth & Steve Oliver - 07/01/2012
Owner
The heavy rains in spring played havoc with the road which Steve is currently repairing. Hopefully it will be completed in the next couple of weeks. We aim to beam the wifi from the steading building to Folds Cottage in the near future.

Columbus, OhioBeautiful cottage in Glenlivet
Left on 06/16/2012 for a stay in May 2012
Our family of 5 adults had a wonderful stay at peaceful Bluefolds cottages in Glenlivet. The cottage we stayed in was spacious, comfortable, cosy and well-equipped with a beautiful kitchen and two bathrooms. We stayed for 3 nights and wished we had booked for longer. Steve was a wonderful host, dropping by after we arrived to make sure we had all we needed and to recommend attractions in the area as well as sharing his knowledge about the local whiskies. We would wholeheartedly recommend Bluefolds if you want to stay in total peace and quiet with lovely views over the braes. The only small downside is the bumpy trek up a farm track to get to and from the cottage but that is a small price to pay for such a stunning location.

Steve is a very attentive and generous host. Bluefolds is a superbly located, comfortable, private and accessible spot for those who do not want to be in an urban setting. You could spend a full day at Bluefolds, or just crash there at night, doing day trips from its central location (you need a car). All facilities are modern, and the kitchen is very well-stocked. Steve is a brilliant host.

The accomodation is very comfortable and convenient. We loved the calmness and the wonderful view into the valley. Nevertheless you do not have to drive very far to visit castles and distilleries. There are lots of opportunities for lovely day trips. If you want to know anything about the environment, ask Steve who is a very kind guy. And he knows ALL about whisky!

Left on 05/21/2009 for a stay in March 2009
Our week at Bluefolds at the end of March was one of contrasts. We had hired a 4x4 at Inverness Airport after flying in from Gatwick, which was lucky as we arrived in a blizzard. Steve met us at the pre-warmed cottage and after we had settled in introduced us to 1 or 2 of the many local malts. Sledging on Sunday started a week which was filled with walking, wildlife, whisky, visits to Balmoral, Aviemore, the Murray Firth ... The weather became fine and dry and the views around the cottage varied from hour to hour.
A real highlight for us was seeing our first wild pine martens.
We hope to return again soon to continue exploring. -

Left on 05/21/2009 for a stay in December 2008
The pictures of Bluefolds that we found on the net looked so good we decided that we just had to spend Christmas there but we weren't prepared for the stunning location & scenery when we arrived. Set at the end of a track that makes it's way up a heather clad hill the accomodation looks out over the Cairngorms National Park & every morning we woke up to the beautiful picture of snowcapped mountains spread out before us. The house itself was fantastic & very comfortable with 3 nice bedrooms,a spacious lounge & a superb kitchen complete with a coal/wood burner that we sat around every night drinking the local whiskey & winding down after one of our sightseeing tours of the area. Driving up from the other end of the UK was a long & tiring journey so arriving at our destination to a warm fire & nice drink that had been left for us was just the kind of touch that makes a holiday that extra bit special & we have to say that Steve & Elizabeth were perfect hosts who we are going to keep in touch with. The trips out we made included Elgin & Lossiemouth, the latter having a fantastic long beach that I imagine is superb in summer,Dufftown which has the most excellent whiskey shop, the famous battlefield at Culloden & the brilliant Reindeer/Santa parade in Grantown-On-Spey which is a must for children of all ages(even those of 46 like me). Of course xmas in Scotland wouldn't be the same without snow, unfortunately for us there wasn't much around when we were there, luckily we found a slope with some remaining at the Lecht ski center & spent a few brilliant hours on snowboards kindly provided by Steve, cheers mate. By far the best day though was xmas day itself, waking up to that view of the mountains with the,(six),kids ripping paper off their presents & that little red squirrel sitting in the pine tree outside is something I'll never forget. Without doubt the best holiday we have ever spent,(until our next visit that is). All I can say is 'don't think about going, GO!'

I have been staying at Bluefolds on an annual basis since 2001. All of the cottages, without exception, are of the highest standard. Sensational views of the Cairngorms National Park is availalbe from every cottage. Elizabeth & Steve would have to be the friendliest owners and really do care for thier guests; always ready to offer friendly advice. There are plently of things to see and do in this part of Scotland and it is in such a central location that many parts of Scotland are in easy reach.
