Nestles amidst this abundant natural sanctuary, is our lovely cottage. This charming holiday house is perfect for just a couple or for the whole family, with the most fantastic views over the entire Whanganui Inlet. Westhaven is located on the westcoast at the top of the south island. Driving time from Nelson it is approx. 3 hours from Nelson and the last 50 minutes of the drive is a gravel road. It is a good road, suitable to normal cars (2WD & 4WD) The road is a beautiful scenic drive along the Whanganui Inlet, however a little windy.
Farewell Spit is located 1 hour from Westhaven
Horseriding can be arranged in the Farewell Spit area too.
Caving and Jet kayaks within 20 minutes.
Helicopter flights can be arranged, flight time 30 minutes from Nelson.

Our stay was so short but from the moment we arrived we were treated with kindness and courtesy. We ate excellent meals in the dining room with the most wonderful views accompanied by lively conversation. In the time since our last visit the venue is even more luxurious but maintains its warm welcome. The cottage served our purposes superbly and in spite of the wet weather, we loved the opportunity to experience the peace and drama that this part of NZ offers. We enjoyed being spoilt and would love to return.

Unterhalb der Westhaven Retreat Lodge gelegen, bietet das Cottage einen fantastischen ausblick auf die umgebende Berwelt des Kahurangi National Parks und das Inlet der Tasman See mit den wechselnden Gezeiten.
Es ist sehr gemütlich eingerichtet und funktionell ausgestattet mit allem, was man zur Selbstversorgung benötigt. Aber viel besser ist es, sich kulinarisch von den beiden Damen des Hauses verwöhnnen zu lassen, sei es im Häuschen oder im Haupthaus. Alle annehmlichkeiten der Lodge können in anspruch genommen werden.
Wer Ruhe sucht, findet sie hier garantiert. Es ist der ideale Ort, um den alltag hinter sich zu lassen. Das gesunde Klima, die einsamen Wanderwege in der überwältigenden Landschaft, in der friedliche Lamas und Schafe grasen und nicht zuletzt die herzliche Gastfreundschaft der Inhaber, Familie Stompe mit Tochter und Schwiegersohn, machten den aufenthalt hier unvergeßlich. Ein Grund für uns, im Jahr 2013 das Cottage zum dreizehnten Mal zu mieten. -

What awesome beauty I saw on this trip. The compound is unbelievable. The staff is very caring and the food was wonderful.
