185 Beach Road Luxury Beachside Villa & Apartments
Gordon's Bay, Western Cape, South Africa
What's Nearby:
Additional Location Information
The quaint village of Gordons Bay nestles at the edge of the warmer waters of False Bay. With two harbours, Gordon’s Bay is a playground of yachts and cruisers and laughter is heard from pleasure boats a wave splash away. Seals, dolphins and even whales visit and when the surf is up the surfers amuse us with their acrobatics. In the shallows small children play safely while their parents laze contentedly on the sandy white beaches. Behind us the crags of the Hottentots Holland Mountains are dressed in fynbos and to one side we see patchwork quilts of vineyards nestle in the Helderberg valley. And as a bonus ... almost UNIQUE in South Africa ... we look NORTH over the sea so the welcome sun warms us from early morning and does not have the searing heat of the afternoon sun that scorches the Atlantic seaboard. At night moonlight stretches across the sea to lights across the bay. The hamlets of Fishhoek, Kalk Bay, Muizenberg and the skyscrapers of the Strand twinkle alluringly.
Gordon's Bay is perfectly positioned in the centre of the Western Cape - 50 mins to the city of Cape Town and Hermanus, 35 mins to the airport, the Winelands, the orchard district and the Huguenot reserve, is midway between the Flower and Whale routes (conveniently occurring at the same time!) and is five minute to nature and marine reserves and the exceptional Whale Route Drive where cliffs plunge into the turbulent waves between secret beach coves.
Gordon's Bay is ideal as a central base, or perhaps as a stop after a long day of wining and dining in the Winelands before visitors explore Hermanus and the Garden Route. From strolling safely along the beachfront or playing golf, to kloofing at Crystal Springs or to (gentle) quadbiking or horseriding through vineyards and nature reserves - there is so much to explore. For the sea lovers there is rock or game fishing or for the adventurous shark cage diving! Those that prefer a more leisurely holiday especially enjoy magnificent AFrican sunsets with a glass of sparkling wine

Fabulous property and somewhere I must return too. The house has everything you could possible need and is in a great location. We stayed in the main house so had private use of the pool, however if you stay in one of the smaller apartments, the beach is literally across the road.

We loved our stay at 185 Beach Road. Jeanette is a wonderful host, full of information about the surrounding area. The ocean is 15 yards away and the view is stunning. Beautiful Bikini Beach is a 1 minute walk. Restaurants in Gordon’s Bay are plentiful and reached in 15 minutes by foot. We can't wait to return to 185 Beach Road

Our penthouse apartment was an absolute delight! From the small details - like baths salts, juice in the fridge, comfy beds and top quality linen, wonderful african art work and treasures - to the big luxuries like an amazing sea view and easy beach access - this venue is a must! You will not be disappointed. Our hosts were so hospitable. The accommodation was easy to find and tucked away near the end of a cul-de-sac, one has a sense of privacy. The sound of the ocean and the smell of the sea air reminds you that you are in beautiful Gordon's Bay and in case you forget -- the fierce winds remind you that you are in the Cape -- South africa's Rough diamond. This is truly one of the most beautiful destinations in the world and 185 Beach Road enables you to enjoy it in style!

We arrived at 185 Beach Road the day after we got Married with our 6 year old Son. From the moment we arrived Jeanette was brilliant - making us feel so welcomed. We parked our car in a very secure electric garage and Jeanette lead us up the spiral staircase (which I might add is very safe as our 6 year old climbed up and down them but obviously there must always be adult supervision) to our Beachside penthouse. When we got to the top we were blown away the views we incredable and the patio area was beautiful. We walked into the penthouse and it is stunning. The feel and the decor is so beautiful and Jeanette has obviously worked so hard to get it as perfect as it is. Every were we looked in the appartment we loved and we felt so lucky to have found this stunning place. Throughout our whole week we were there Jeanette and her staff were brilliant and couldnt have asked for any more. All our friends that had booked somewhere else where so envious of the appartment we had found. Jeanette has got so many brillliant recommondations of places to go and they were all so good. Every morning we couldnt wait to wake up and go sit outside on the patio watching the waves crash onto the rocks right below us. Its such a romantic place and we were so sad the day we left. I cant thank Jeanette and her staff enough for making our first week as Husband and wife so special. Our next trip to Sa (Hopefully) in Dec 2014 we will without a doubt be asking Jeanette to have us back... Amazing xxx

If you want the ocean waves to carry you away to dream land every night, you have found it. One of the most picturesque views God ever created. To top this off, the linen is of high quality, and the apartment is clean and an absolute pleasure to be in. Ample cozy restaurants close by too. Go for it. There is no better value for money.

As already suggested and planned by Jeanette the owner, the Green Forest suite where we stayed needs a washup basin to make the selfservice kitchenette more comfortable. But otherwise we will definitely recommend 185 Beach Road to anybody and we wont hesitate to return.

We zochten een ruim, luxe huis tussen Kaapstad en het wijngebied in. Bovendien ook nog aan het water.Vaak lijkt het op internet mooier dan de realiteit. Dit was echter "value for money"!

We stayed in the penthouse apartments which was magnificently furnished. Everything was super clean, and neat. We could not think of anything not supplied by Jeanette. The owner was friendly and helpful as well as all the staff assisting us. The staircase is not for very young children or elderly, but we managed fine with my 6 and 8 year old. We just loved hearing the sea noises from our bedrooms, almost like sleeping in a yacht. On two occasions we spotted dolphins in the bay from our apartment. Walking distance to Bikini beach, but also 15 min to Strand, a wonderful surfing safe beach. Although a family stayed in the main house, our apartment was very private and access to our own garage was safe and secure. W would definitely recommend this apartment to families and couples alike, and hope to return there in the near future!

What was suppose to be 2 nite stay turned into 4 nites of enjoying awesome scenery all round - the sea visible from the front windows...and the forest-like greenery nestled all along the mountains to the back of the self-catering Forest Suite that we stayed in. The luxury of heated flooring...and oh, the spa - bath added a very special touch to our little holiday away from our kids. The staff were very helpful and friendly indeed. We will definitely be back!!!

GuildfordMost Incredible Place!

This review is a little late, but our stay was so amazing at 185 Beach Road that I just had to put it on here! We came to CT for our wedding and whilst planning, we always knew we wanted a large property that could accommodate our friends and family, that was affordable but would also give us the luxury that we wanted. We spent countless hours looking for accommodation and when we were about to give up and let everyone do their own thing, we found 185 Beach Road. We fell in love with it, and what was made better was the fact the property is divided into the different sections, which meant our friends could arrive and leave on different days. Jeanette was so helpful in the lead up giving us loads of tips, and although I am South african our friends weren't. They all commented on how great Jeanette was! When we arrived, we completely fell in love with the house. The staff were so incredibly helpful and couldn't do enough for us. We had a number of friends also staying in GB, which meant due to the size of the house everyone could gather at the house. Everyone was blown away by the place! It is just incredible! I think the only issue we had was the internet kept failing, the staff were so helpful, Jeanette got a technician out quickly to resolve the issue and also gave us her internet card - doing everything they could to help us get done what we needed to! The evening before the wedding, I noticed that my husband to be's shirt had not travelled well and had a yellow stain the collar - very noticeable - I went to ask the staff if they had any advice of what I could do, their response was to take the shirt and resolve the issue for the shirt was returned the following morning, stainless and perfectly washed and ironed! So as much as the house sells itself, it is equally Jeanette and her team that are the icing on the cake! The photos just cannot do this place justice!

312664Outstanding Value for Money and Generally Excellent Find
Left on 12/09/2011 for a stay in December 2011
We stayed in the Studio for five nights. It is what it claims to be - a studio. It is not big - I really would not try to stay more than 2 in it. It has a remarkably tiny shower room, which is completely internal (though it has an effective extractor fan and is beautifully finished). It has a very narrow and quite astonishingly busy cul de sac between it and the sea. Oh, and the crockery is chipped (which is annoying).
And that is everything that is not fantastic about it. Its position is really ideal. It is a couple of minutes walk to the blue flag Bikini Beach and to two restaurants and easy walking distance to the rest of the town. It is well equipped (given that there is not an oven), tastefully decorated and comfortably furnished - an excellent bed, which is the most important thing. It is fully serviced every day, apparently by magic, because you never see or hear anyone. On the other hand the staff are friendly and helpful when you need them and Jeanette is very gracious.
It has a pleasant courtyard and if you are too short to see over the privacy wall from a chair you can sit on the windowsill and see the whole of False Bay.
I really do not believe that there is anything equivalent at this price around Cape Town. We enjoyed our stay thoroughly and would definitely stay there again under similar circumstances. -

This house is absolutely perfectly situated for uninterrupted views of False Bay and Gordons Bay's harbor. We had the pleasure of staying in the Forest Suite - with gorgeous views of the sea in front and bit of forest magic in the back. The room was clean and I loved the green touches, very calming. Of course the spa bath was an absolute hit. We relaxed on our balcony with a glass of bubbly before setting off to Harbour Lights Restaurant - withing perfect walking distance! If you want some privacy and need some recharging, this is the place to go! Many thanks to Jeanette for her hospitality.
