The entrance to Villa OTO leads conveniently into an impressive open-plan kitchen and dining area, but you will only pause there to set down your bags before heading straight out to the terrace. Take in the view down the lush hillside of poirier trees and cacti sloping down to the palms beside Gouverneur beach below. A tyrant bird swoops past and perches briefly on a deck chair beside the pool, its melodious chirp harmonizing with the sound of the waves on the beach. The azure water of the Caribbean stretches out before you, the islands of Saba and St. Kitts in the distance. You have discovered a home for an unforgettable holiday.

The d...esign of the kitchen will make it the center of activity for guests wishing to show off their culinary skills. A Lacanche Cote d'Or range with a griddle and a super-burner means that no recipe is out of the question. And the convenient center-island is not merely functional but is a design flourish on its own, frosted-glass panels lit from inside balancing the carefully planned cornice lighting and direct illumination of the space. A mahogany table for eight is equally suited to a pre-beach family breakfast or a lingering dinner party with visiting friends. The shaded terrace off the kitchen is suited to either daytime relaxation or evening entertaining, with comfortable rattan furniture seating up to twenty.

To the right and left of the living area are two of Villa OTO's three bedrooms, each with a king-size, mahogany four-poster bed, leather furniture, and a view of the sea. One boasts a skylight-lit travertine bathroom and generous dressing area, and the other a private garden space with its own outdoor shower. A few steps away is the third bedroom suite, with a dual-vanity limestone bath and a private deck in the shade of a bay rum tree.

Down a staircase to the pool level, you discover that Villa OTO has a whole other side to it: a large living room with plentiful seating and a flat screen television, a fully equipped and dramatically lighted wet bar, and of course the wide deck and intricately-tiled infinity pool. A second seating area at the end of the deck is as ideal for sunning as it is for sunsets. A Buddha statue and a garden of bougainvillea and barrel cacti add to the serenity.

With its ideal Gouverneur location, Villa OTO is a quick trip down the hill to the beach while also just minutes from the island's main town of Gustavia. All the shops and restaurants you need are just a short drive away, should you need a break from paradise.
