      Breathtaking Views & Relaxing accommodations

Left on 05/13/2013 for a stay in April 2013

We loved everything about it! The description and photos were true. The shocking blue water views from every window are utterly stunning! It's on the atlantic Side which makes it great for sleeping. My husband & I even slept on the front porch one night which was dreamy. The beach is beautiful and truly remote, as Maureen said. We also went to the Caribbean side many times. There are many beaches just minutes away. Cocodimama was our favorite - 5 minute drive. The house is up on stilts so you get great views. The accommodations are very comfortable and modern. Overall the vacation exceeded our expectations.

      On the atlantic side

Left on 03/03/2013 for a stay in January 2013

There are actually two cottages very close to each other and there are shutters which obscure a lot of the westerly view. The living room could be more comfortable if set up with chairs and/or love seat rather than two narrow day beds. All that being said, it is a very relaxing place, spotlessly clean and comfortable. The beaches of Eleuthera, on the atlantic side have an incredible amount of plastic littering them. You can not walk ten feet without seeing plastic bottles, flip flops, buoys, etc. However, you can walk for miles on the beach without seeing another person. In January the water isn't as warm as I like it, but it is definitely swimable! The color of the water is gorgeous and varies throughout the day.

So glad that you chose to travel to Eleuthera over St. John this year and experienced all that our island has to offer. We were so pleased with your total enjoyment of Cayo Loco and your exuberance when we came to check you out after your stay with us. Thank you for your positive review and hope to see you again at our island paradise!

      Das ist das Paradies!

Left on 11/27/2012 for a stay in November 2012

      Vacation of a Lifetime

Left on 08/02/2012 for a stay in July 2012

My wife and I spent our 5th anniversary at Cayo Loco. It was the best vacation we've ever had. It wasn't the kind of vacation where you order room service and go out for entertainment at any hour. Instead, it was relaxing in paradise. Examples: napping on the front porch to the sound of the ocean; swimming in water so calm and clear, that pictures make it look like there's no water at all (Ten Bay); the adventure of trying to find things on the island (also Ten Bay); learning about the unique culture of the island. I could go on.

The first couple of days, we did little more than stare at the sky and the ocean. There was a beautiful full moon over the ocean at night. We saw sunrise and moonrise from the front porch. Eventually, the moon waned enough to where we could see a myriad of stars. The sights and sounds were mesmerizing.

Each day we at least walked along the beach. About every other day, we went swimming. Cayo's beach is a great atlantic-side beach. After we visited Ten Bay, we discovered that the calm Carribean side was our preference. Unfortunately though, Ten Bay was a bit more popular (6-8 other people on the beach, instead of 0-4 at Cayo).

There are some great restaurants on the island. We tried several, including: Rainbow Inn with Spider and the Boys playing, Sky Beach, Cocodimama's, and aqua Pazza (on Harbour Island). We also grabbed a pizza to take home from Mate and Jenny's. Sky Beach was our favorite, very chill, and right down the beach. The best value of the places we ate was Mate and Jenny's, and the pizza was great.

We visited Harbour Island, but it was not to our liking. Much busier and somewhat commercialized. For example, chairs for rent on the main beach. We had breakfast at arthur's Bakery, toured around on a golf cart, and ate lunch at aqua Pazza before grabbing a ferry back to 'Lutra proper. There was a lot on the 'Briland we missed seeing, but we were ready to get back to the serenity of our home away from home.

The fish fry was another event we attended, but we left before it got going in full force. There were probably a hundred people there, too many for my liking. ;) We did watch them make conch salad right there on the beach. Just don't get too close or the conch man will chase you around with conch nethers and try to get you to eat it, haha. The fish was good, even though it was still staring at me as it was being eaten.

Driving on the island is an experience all to itself. The proper lane to driving in is the left lane. In practice, however, it was more like the middle lane was the proper lane, and everyone was in agreement to swerve left when met with other cars. Embellishments aside, people did tend to drive pretty fast down the main road. Going "10-over", I was passed pretty often.

Overall, I would recommend Cayo Loco whole-heartedly for a relaxing get-away. Maureen and allen were wonderful hosts. I'll be honest: when I first got the information packet with detailed house rules, I was afraid that they would be looking over our shoulder while we were there. Once we got there, I quickly came to realize that the guidelines were actually to help us adapt to the house and make our stay more enjoyable. We were left completely to ourselves, but they were still available to answer our questions. Like I said, wonderful hosts! The house itself is very thoughtfully appointed. From scissors to an iPod dock, we didn't find ourselves lacking anything we came to need.

      Walking on a dream

Left on 11/29/2011 for a stay in September 2011

We stayed at Maureen and alan's beach house named Cayo Loco for twelve days and it was amazing. After seeing the photos on their website and reading the positive reviews we were convinced that this vacation rental would be a great place to stay at Eleuthera. We arrived a week after Hurricane Irene hit the island. Fortunately there wasn't a lot of damage at the property. The beach house is newly built, very clean and contains everything you need to have a relaxed stay (dishwasher, beach chairs, snorkel gear, books, dvds etc etc). Maureen and alan are very helpfull, kind and positive. Their house is located close to the rental house but you feel very private. The view is great, we spent most of our time sitting on the porch looking at the waves and the beautiful sky. Unfortunately we did not get to meet the dolphins, so hopefully we will be able to go back soon. We both have traveled a lot but this was the best vacation ever! Pieter & Vivian

if you are looking for a place that makes you feel that you´ve left the world behind, this is it. we spent 10 days there in august and by the first morning all our worldly affairs were forgotten. our days consisted of beautiful sunrises from our balcony, walks on our own powder white beach, snorkeling the reefs right out our front door and ice cold kaliks as we watched the sun go down. the house was perfect, not 1 detail was missing, and we felt at home from the moment we stepped inside. we couldnt have asked for cooler hosts, a first class couple that make you feel like old friends.. if you have any doubts about it, dont. it will be a vacation that you´ll remember forever...

Simple, modern, bright, airy & what a view!

Left on 07/05/2011 for a stay in June 2011

Just returned from our honeymoon here -- it was perfect. This cottage is simple and modern, with lots of light, a constant and enjoyable sea breeze and the view from the deck is unbeatable.

The beach is gorgeous and rarely has people on it, and a few properties down you'll find a great hotel restaurant and infinity pool w/ hot tub. Also, the location is perfect -- right in the middle of the island, so day trips to various destinations are never too distant (go see lighthouse beach...wow!); it's close to a supermarket, too.

The property owners -- Maureen & Alan -- gave us all the privacy we needed but were there whenever we had questions about the cottage and the island. They even provided a handy book they created w/ restaurant/beach advice, maps, etc., which we brought everywhere. It's worth noting that they are very nice, down-to-earth people too (they even had a bottle of champagne waiting for us in the fridge).

I recommend this spot without hesitation!

Wow. A darling rental, on a gorgeous stretch of beach, owned and run by two very lovely people. Couldn't have asked for more. The water is impossibly beautiful and snorkeling around the little reefs is amazing - what a collection of beautiful fish! The people on the island are as friendly as you could want - it's just the perfect place to get away and relax. I know we'll be back. Anyone looking for a romantic little getaway place, you're done. Left on 05/07/2011 for a stay in April 2011

I will say that as amazing as the pictures of this place are, they do not even come close to the beauty of this house. We had an amazing time staying here and the pink sand beach in the front yard was one of the most stunning! I have rented from places that may stretch the truth or pictures but this was a truly special experience and far exceed our expectations. We could not have asked for more. So thank you again for your incredible hospitality and really delivering a wow with this very special place. You guys have ruined us as we don't know that any vacation could ever live up to this one! We cannot wait to come back and visit in the coming months... I feel like as many great things as we saw that there is still so much to see and do!

We love it here!!This lovely place is as close to the ocean as you can get, right on the bluff! We loved drinking our coffee on the lounge and having breakfast at the table on the deck. Later, when the sun was hot, we had shade from the deck or pulapa on the beach. Great place for walking miles in either direction on the beach or on the sandy bank road! Amazing snorkling! Hosts alan & Maureen were so kind and helpful. R/O drinking water and a dishwasher were amenities we appreciated having.

      Loved My Stay Here!

Left on 04/05/2011 for a stay in December 2010

Cayo Loco is a charming little beach cottage that sits looking directly over the ocean and a beautiful beach. The views are incredible, up an down the pink sand beach, and I saw dolphins on my first morning while having my coffee. The colors of the water are amazing, especially when it's a calm day (I had windy days, too). The cottage is small but has everything you'd need and is really cute. The hosts live on the property and were extremely helpful but gave me my privacy too. I appreciated the plentiful beach and bath towels and spotless cleanliness. Had an all around great stay here!

My favorite spot in the world. My real dream vacation come true. I wish I were there now. This cottage is cute cozy clean on top of one the best Bahama beaches. The views are spectacular. I didn't feel any guilt for not going anywhere just hanging out for days. Private pink sand beach for healthy long walks and dips in the clear blue ocean- maybe if I saw three people in a day? Total relaxation...Alan and Maureen made me feel like I was part of their family. They couldn't have been nicer. So close to Goveners Harbor, played tennis, went to the movies, tourist shopping...Interesting restrurants. But my favorite activity was sitting on the cottage deck reading, relaxing and taking in the beauty!!!
