Additional Location Information

Roufiat is an ideal location for exploring the Dordogne with many places of interest to visit from fairytale Châteaux and prehistoric caves to the local markets held on most days around the region.

There are many local safe rivers spots that cater well for swimming, canoeing and general relaxing.
There is also a cycle and foot path map available for the local area which has nationally acclaimed VTT competition courses rated from green to black as in skiing.

The nearest village, Grand Brassac is just under half a kilometre away (10min walk) and has a boulangerie, with small store and bar. There is also a public tennis court here which can be booked by you as a locals at a reduced rate.

There is also a selection of bars and restaurants within a few minutes drive in Montagrier and Tocane St Apre which also has a small supermarket. Two large hypermarkets are only twenty minutes away in either direction -- on the outskirts of Périgueux or Riberac.

Areas of Interest
Brantôme, known as the Venice of the Perigord, sits upon the lovely river Dronne and is a delight to visit with its Abbey dating back to the 11th Century. There is a host of bars and restaurants including the legendary Moulin de l'Abbaye and the nearby Moulin du Roc which both boast a Michelin rosette. The town offers fishing, canoeing hire, cycle hire or just people-watching at a café in the square. Market day is Friday and is a lively and social event enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.
There are many other places of interest nearby including Château de Richemont 'Home of Brantôme', one of the Abbots of Brantôme and author of the famous Dames Galantes. The village of Villars offers three attractions; the Château de Puyguilhem, the Abbaye de Boschaud and the prehistoric caves at the Grotte de Villars.

Bourdeilles just further downstream from Brantôme, has a 16th Century Renaissance Château which was built alongside the earlier 12th Century Fortress with its stunning tower offering a bird's eye view of the town. Mareuil-sur-Belle, a local market town, has a variety of bars and restaurants as well as a good selection of shops including an excellent supermarket and three boulangeries. The Château here, like Bourdeilles, is one of the Four Baronies of the Perigord.

Perigueux is the principal city of the region and in its winding streets has much to offer in the way of sophisticated shopping and fine dining to suit all tastes and pockets. The markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays are an absolute must and a visit to the magnificent Cathedral de St. Front is highly recommended, particularly in the heat of the afternoon!

Château de Hautefort, Sarlat, Bergerac and Cognac are all within 'day-trip' distance as is the fabulous pilgrimage to the vineyards of Bordeaux. Farther afield, Poiters is host to Futuroscope, an attraction for children and adults alike.

For seaside lovers La Rochelle or Arcachon are just over 2hrs - easily managed as a day-trip.
