Unique Deck and Murals- one of a kind cabin
Located about 1 mile east of Grand Marais, Spirit Haven was built, single handedly, in 1958 by Byron Bradley, co-founder of the Grand Marais Art Colony as a cozy cabin/studio for a bachelor. A decade and a half later he added another bedroom, a studio and a large deck. The cabin houses both an old upright piano and an old reed pump organ. The focal point of the cabin is a frescoed wall surrounding a large stone gas fireplace. This rustic cabin itself sits almost at water's edge, a feat impossible to duplicate today. I was worried that the place looked too good to be true on line. I was so delighted when it turned out to be exactly what the pictures show and more. This place has all sorts of interesting little things and places to relax. The screened porch added a nice dimension.

More then we expected. Distance from town was perfect. Very quiet and the view of the lake was awesome. The only problem would be if you had a small car and bad weather. We had a hard rain one night and the driveway washed out a little. It is very steep and had ruts after that. We had a truck and had no problems.

Lake Superior is amazing! The cottage was beautiful with everything a person needed to set up housekeeping. The problen I've always had with these rentals is the garbage situation. You finish your vacation and you not only have to take the key back to the rental office (30 miles this time) you have to clean the house and take the garbage to the rental office also. You pay a lot to rent the place and to have it cleaned when you leave they should at least take the garbage. I have never stayed in one of these places that had a comfortable bed-never! Bad beds.

Thanks for your review. Garbage on the North Shore is very hard to get rid of. Something people may not know is that garbage has to be transported to Superior, Wisconsin which is over 100 miles away. This home along with many of our homes does not have the option for garbage pick up. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We are always open to new ideas on how we can solve this problem.
We do not make our guests clean the homes when they are done. The only thing we ask is that you pick up your garbage and wash the dishes. Our guests do not have to do anything else, no laundry, no mopping, no vacuuming, no dusting - it is all taken care of after you leave. We are sorry you cleaned when you did not have to. We try our best to make sure it is a vacation for you!

The most beautiful place on earth...and you get to stand right on top of it. Well stocked kitchen, did not want for anything. Comfortable beds and the deck is amazing.
