This was just what we were looking for. The apartment met all our expectations. It was very central, close to the supermarket, the railway station and the swimming pool. The view of the Eiger from the large balcony took our breath away. Thoroughly recommended.

MelbourneComfortable apartment with stunning views of the Eiger
Left on 10/04/2012 for a stay in September 2012
We stayed at Chalet alpstein in the 2 br Edelweiss apartment with my husband and two boys (ages 4 and 6) in the first week of September 2012. The apartment is superbly situated just south of the main shopping street in Grindelwald and has a balcony, and kitchen/living area windows, which face straight on to the Eiger, with the North Face visible (weather permitting - we were lucky on this front!). As an armchair mountaineer a good view of the Eiger was the icing on the cake and meant that even as we sat at home we felt part of the Jungfrau 'experience'.
Chalet alpstein's location was really fabulous. It was 5 minutes walk to the station, too (if that) and very close to a small park for the boys to play in as well as a small supermarket, and a swimming pool complex right next door. Still, it was quiet and out of the hubbub of the main street.
The apartment itself was clean and tidy with a good functional kitchen, nice bed linen, good sized bathroom and bedrooms and bedside reading lamps (for reading Heinrich Harrer's Eiger classic The White Spider at night). The checkin and checkout process, as well as the email arrangements with Ros beforehand were all very well done and we found Ros to be very professional, friendly and warm. We had a chance to go for a few hikes with and without the kids and the apartment was perfectly located to head straight off from and comfortable to return to after a long day!
I would definitely recommmend this rental to others wanting to have the perfect base for a week in Grindelwald, particularly a family with small kids. -

Brilliant location. The apartment was basic, the kitchen minimal and the bathroom a bit dated. The apartment could have been cleaner. The best feature of the apartment was the balcony, the views of the snow capped mountains were superb, we would sit for hours just being in awe of how pretty the views are.

NederlandCosy little appartment near city center
Left on 01/16/2012 for a stay in December 2011
We wanted a white Christmas and got it in Grindelwald at alpstein.
As usual we give you the good and the bad.
The Good:
+ Location is great: just a few steps from city center with all the bars, shops and restaurants. Also rail and bus is very close.
+ Nice beds and a cosy atmosphere.
+ Nice views.
+ Parking in front in the center!
The Bad:
- Hot water during showering can be an issue when all guests use the bathroom.
- The kitchen is very small with almost no space to store groceries.
- Some spots where dusty.
- Due to the high value off the Swiss franc it has become quite expensive to stay in Switzerland.Response from Alexander and Rosalind Mann Grindelwaldapartments - 01/23/2012

Firstly I want to thank Robin for the review, he did point out that there was some dust accumulated in the extractor fan in the bathroom and I apologise for that, also I think a leaf had blown in from the Fohn wind.
I do understand that it is necessary to be organized in the Kitchenette but in the last seven years and with hundreds of guests Robin is the first to mention storage. I will however put in a new shelf. We have also turned the boiler up. There is however nothing I can do to influence the Swiss Franc. -

Left on 11/01/2011 for a stay in October 2011
My husband and I stayed 7 days at the alpstein Chalet, Grindelwald apartments in Oct 2011. The property listing description is accuate - no disappointments on our first visit to Switzerland! The location is better than described - located in a quiet road and only 3 minutes away from amenities, train stations and toursit attractions. Great facing to the Eiger Mountain and easy access to the First Mountain, Kliene Scheidegg and Jungfrajouch. Apartment is clean and well maintained.
The owner ensured we were comfortably settled in and provided good advices and information. Thank you Ros!

Marietta, GeorgiaStunning location, close to everything, on a quiet side street.
Left on 09/06/2011 for a stay in September 2011
Three of us stayed here for several nights in early September 2011. This self catering apartment has been recently remodeled and is larger than we expected. We had the 2 bedroom Edelweiss apartement. The terrace looked right at the Eiger. There is a table and a number of chairs on the terrace. Great spot for morning coffee as you watch the fog lift.
The well equipped kitchen has microwave, kettle, coffee press, dishwasher and a number of other features. The granite countertops and natural wood cabinets are modern yet ideal for the alpine feel. Bedrooms are both twins. The bath has a deep tub for a shower.
Ros is the owner and lives close by. She is a wealth of information. The apartment building has a shared library near the front door.
Next door is the Sporthaus with sauna, pool, ice skating, bar, and the tourist office. It is a short walk. The train station is with in two blocks as is the Coop grocery store.
This is a high value location with stunning views, a great hostess, and comfortable beds. I recommend it to families, groups, and friends. -

Providence, Rhode IslandExtremely comfortable stay in great location!
Left on 07/23/2011 for a stay in June 2011
We stayed in one of the studios at Chalet alpstein for 6 nights. It was a very cute studio with a balcony that had a gorgeous view. Ros was an extremely nice and thoughtful person. She out in extra sheets and towels for my 2 year old son. Our check in was prompt, as was the check out. The studio was very clean and had all that one would need to have a comfortable stay. The location was very convenient - being 3 minutes away (walking) from the train station and 2 minutes from the bus stop. We really had a great time there and would definitely go back!

vermontPerfect for our family vacation in the alps!
Left on 07/06/2011 for a stay in June 2011
We rented the 4 bedroom unit, Alpenrose, with a large terrace that had us looking at the North Face of the Eiger as well as Mannlichen at all times of day. The location was close to the main train station, grocery store, restaurants and the SportsZentrum yet very quiet. This roomy apartment had comfortable beds and was well furnished in all ways. We cooked several dinners and enjoyed most meals on the terrace. Owner Ros was easy to work with. Perfect for our three generations of family who love to hike and explore the mountains.

AustraliaFantastic View
Left on 12/30/2010 for a stay in May 2010
We stayed in one of the studio apartments for three nights in May. The apartment was clean and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was dated and in need of some TLC and the cooking and kitchen facilities were minimal. However, the view of the Eiger was amazing. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony at the end of a long day of walking sipping a cold beer and watching the light change on the mountain - magical!
