Description from the owner
Phoenix Nest, a romantic and spectacular oceanfront vacation home, is nestled on two glorious acres of forest right on the ocean.
The 2500 square foot, newly remodeled home is bright and well-appointed. It includes a 44-foot living room with 180 degree views of the ocean throughout. The two master bedroom suites provide great privacy for 2 couples. We are situated on two acres that hug the ocean cliff. You can hear the waves crash and see the osprey and seagulls fly by as the low tide unveils the rocks and sandy beach. Watch gorgeous sunsets from the deck or hot tub.
You will see sea lions surfing or resting on the rocks. During...Read more

Atlanta, GeorgiaIdeal North Coast Location!
Left on 11/15/2012 for a stay in November 2012
This turned out to be the absolute perfect location for our vacation. We were seeking a place to completely disconnect from our busy pace, to enjoy nature, to have privacy. The Phoenix Nest was immaculate, had a well-stocked kitchen for us to dine at home, awesome views from every room, close proximity to nature, groceries, Anderson Valley wineries - everything we needed. The North Coast is not the place for those who seek a night life experience - we quickly concluded that we were not interested in winding around Highway 1 in the dark! Thanks to the owners' suggestions, we made grocery stops on the way up and found anything else we needed in groceries in Gualala. We made a day trip to Mendocino and another day visited wineries in the anderson Valley (tour at Navarro Winery was great!). But our favorite part was just staying at Phoenix Nest. There we had privacy, peace and the best views possible! From sunsets in the adirondacks to star-gazing in the hot tub - there was no place we would rather have been. We had limited cell phone signal (that was actually a bonus-helped us disconnect and relax). Thanks for the Wi-Fi! A big thank you to the owners for making this property available as a rental. I highly recommend this property and the North Coast!

This rental property was the perfect spot to relax, unwind and recharge! Ocean views are spectacular, the hot tub is private, the house is fully equipped with everything needed for a great week, and the sunsets were glorious! We didn't have cell phone reception but wifi helped us stay in touch with the rest of the world as much as we needed to, and there is a landline to receive calls or make local calls. The property is well maintained and it was great to have the use of a washer and dryer. Although there are several restaurants within 10 minutes drive, we grilled out most nights because the patio was so enjoyable. it's kind of a hike from the city but well worth the drive. It's a beautiful place and I almost hate to tell you how much we loved it because we hope to,stay for 2 weeks next year! Would love to do some whale watching in March!!

Dear Cathy and David,
I look forward to having you stay at the Phoenix Nest again in March. The whales should be quite visible. Thanks for your glowing recommendation!

Left on 07/18/2012 for a stay in June 2012
Staying at Phoenix Nest was incredible! The home is gorgeous, the view spectacular, and you have everything you need to just relax and enjoy. The view is amazing! We enjoyed hearing the sea lions below, watching the sunrise and sunsets, and sitting in the hot tub at night looking at the stars. We will be recommending the Phoenix Nest to our family and friends. We hope to be back someday!

Heaven on Earth - what else can one say? Beauty, beauty, beauty. Wherever you turn, wherever you look. The cottage is wonderfully roomy and breezy for two, but can handle more easily. The hosts are the key! They are such fantastic rare people; the touch of their personality makes the house almost enchanted (without any whatsoever interference upon you!). If you need a respite, recharge, vacation, or break for thought and introspection - choose Phoenix Nest. You will never regret it.

Phoenix Nest is a spacious, well-appointed home perched on the edge of a cliff offering a breathtaking view. So far so good. But it gets better. The home owner, as stated on previous reviews, really is a joy to work with; caring, extremely organized and likeable.
My only suggestion to potential renters would be leave your friends and family at home. Seriously, Phoenix Nest is far too romantic and serene to share with a groupResponse from Pat - 09/11/2011

Hobbs, NMPeace, Paradise, and the Pacific all in one magnificent package!
Left on 03/28/2011 for a stay in March 2011
My best friend and I spent a week at Phoenix Nest hoping for rest and relaxation from the stress of our jobs. What we experienced was absolute peace in this beautiful home with spectacular views from every room in the house! As guests of Phoenix Nest, we were provided access to a private cove (Haven's Neck) that satisfied our sense of adventure as we traversed the rugged terrain to photograph sea lions basking in the sun and frolicking in the water. After a day of hiking, it was absolutely glorious to relax in the hot tub and enjoy the panoramic view of the Pacific.
Making the arrangements with Pat was seamless as she was responsive to our questions before the trip and checked in with us to make sure everything was as expected. It was, in fact, above and beyond anything we imagined.
Phoenix Nest is a place we will visit as often as possible!

Berkeley, CABest Birthday Gift Getaway ever!!!
Left on 06/07/2010 for a stay in May 2010
In the 90’s my writing partner and I were fortunate to find the Phoenix Nest to use as a sanctuary to finish the chapters of a computer book project.
The exterior of the home offered no clues to what was inside. Unlocking the door, we walked through a galley kitchen into the living room, where our jaws literally dropped at the panorama of the Pacific Ocean pressing in through the floor-to-ceiling windows. We couldn’t believe our good fortune.
In the years since, my dear husband, Cordell, has heard, often, about the sanctuary experience and watched my eyes roll back in my head with each re-telling. When my landmark birthday approached, he suggested we find out if “that” Phoenix Nest was still around. It was.
We learned of 2007 renovations--more comfort (lots of sofas), modernized kitchen, separate driveway & path for wheel chairs—and a new hot tub.
I prayed the deck outside was still there. It was. From this deck I had watched osprey, pelicans and seagulls perfect their Blue angel maneuvers; and been hypnotized by the sun slowly lying down on the ocean. We contacted the delightful owner, Pat; got the keys, and packed the two most important things: food and music.
On the 2nd day, a spring storm began over the ocean. Horizontal layers of “blueness” stretched across the sky. 3 shades of blue in the water were visible and extended to the horizon line where smoky, planks of blue continued up into the sky.
This Rothko panorama unfolded as Kenny Washington’s exquisite jazz vocal began to Miles Davis’ “All Blues” and Oscar Brown Jr’s lyrics.
“The sea / The sky / And you and I / Sea and sky and you and I / With all blues / All shades / All hues / We’re all blues”
“Can you believe this is happening?” we shouted telepathically through the looks passing between us. The universe was speaking directly: “Sit down. Watch the sea and sky. Listen to Miles. Be together. Be at the Phoenix Nest.”Response from Pat - 06/07/2010

Dear Lonnie,
I'm glad you didn't wait another 20 years to return and have already booked our home again for an October stay. You are great guests and welcome any time.

San Francisco, CAStunning oceanfront haven
Left on 05/31/2010 for a stay in May 2010
I swore to myself that I'd return to Phoenix Nest after first staying here with friends in January 2007. It's the perfect place to relax and enjoy the absolutely stunning views (from every room -- and the hot tub!) in the company of good friends. I put myself in charge of organizing my second trip up with 3 friends who were first-time visitors: no agenda, just a menu. Initially, they were skeptical of my (lack of) plans and kept asking, "what are we going to do?" but I think they understood why I wanted to simply stay at home as soon as they walked in. There are no words -- or even photos -- to fully capture the transcendently beautiful ocean views (and sounds) from the home.
We came well prepared for all of the cooking we'd planned to do, even bringing our Le Creuset pot and hand mixer along for the road trip up from San Francisco to Oregon and Washington that was to culminate in a weekend in Gualala. It wasn't until after the first night that we discovered that the kitchen had already been thoughtfully furnished with all the tools we could ever need.
Although I've only communicated with Pat via phone and email, her warmth and thoughtfulness are abundantly apparent in the way that she's appointed Phoenix Nest -- from the way that she's arranged the furniture to best enjoy the view and the bottle of champagne that greets guests down to the smallest details, including the spices and herbs she's made available in her kitchen and the towel hooks on the wall just inside from the hot tub.
My friends and I left Phoenix Nest completely relaxed and rejuvenated. I count myself as truly lucky to have stumbled upon this treasure and hope to return to share it with more friends in the future.Response from Pat - 06/06/2010
