Medieval construction methods meet 21st Century styling and amenities right here on the northern Sonoma coast! Pilar is an elegant example of Post and Beam construction. The house was built by local artisan and Timberpeg builder Michael Thomas, with a lot of hands-on participation from the owners. If you appreciate architecture, you will enjoy Pilar’s tantalizing curves as they wrap around the rugged strength...Read more

San FranciscoFun and peaceful new year holiday
Left on 01/26/2012 for a stay in January 2012
We stayed at Pilar over the 2012 new year holiday with another family. The home was in surprisingly good shape (rentals in Sea Ranch can be dated) and the architecture was really neat. We would definitely stay here again.

Piedmont, CAMissed the Mark

Pilar is a great house if you like to cook and sleep with a kitchen that was well equipped and nicely decorated bedrooms. It is also near the bluff trail which is great for hiking. However, there are no curtains in the living room, so there is no privacy at night as cars drive around the cul de sac and trying to watch TV during daylight was difficult. Also the view in the living room was a bulldozer next door. Relaxing outside was not comfortable as there is only a small deck with no chairs of any kind and the hot tub is in full view of the neighbors who have second story windows overlooking it. In addition, the downstairs toilet overflowed after flushing and flooded the bathroom, the entry and part of the bedroom. We ended up spending multiple hours cleaning it up, then washing, drying and folding every towel in the house. During the remaining time we were there, I turned off the water flow to the toilet after every flush completed. Overall, considering the cost of renting this house, it was not the relaxing time I anticipated. I would not recommend it and left feeling cheated.

Dear Guest, I thank you for the frank assessment of the experience you had at Pilar. Constructive observations are appreciated and will serve to guide ongoing improvements to the home. The toilet issue was very regretable and as was mentioned when we spoke initially, your quick actions were really above and beyond the call. We hope we will have the opportunity to host you in the future.

Berkeley, CARelaxing, but the bed was way too soft...
Left on 02/03/2011 for a stay in December 2010
Beautiful interior, nice location, close to bluff. Well appointed generally. Beds much too soft, however, causing actual back spasms, so I won't return unfortunately. Also, there were no curtains on massive front glass windows, making for absolutely no privacy at night. But otherwise, very nice

San FranciscoAn abosolute dream of a place
Left on 09/09/2010 for a stay in September 2010
From the moment we drove up, spying some critter friends like two deer we affectionately named Liza and Judy (a mom and her doe babe), we were in heaven. The house is perfectly appointed with a beautiful open kitchen/living room/dining room, an incredible downstairs bathroom with a clawfoot tub, a magnificent master bedroom upstairs with its own fireplace and two person shower. Gorgeous craftsmanship, nicely stocked pantry, and a wonderfully relaxing hot tub.
if you are like us, overworked, stressed, need to get out of the city: Pilar is for you. No cel phone reception. The only sound you will hear are the tweeting of birds and not the tweeting of your phone.
Steps from the house a path to the cliffside trail along the Sea Ranch coastline. And from there, we viewed what we thought was the most beautiful sunset. Perfect romance.
Heaven. We miss you, Pilar.

We love this home we have been staying here for the last three years. My
brother built it so it is extra special for us. The owners have beautifully
decorated it with love. The location is awesome, the trails are right outside the
front door to the ocean and the forest. -

This beautiful home was a respite from the day-to-day world. The house was well-stocked with linens and reading material. Only challenge was getting the TVs and DVD players to work properly but this may be due to operator error.
No quirks! How nice to have a rental that was like new.
Easily enjoyed the pool and trails and lodge.
