Great place to stay in Guejar Sierra

Left on 07/29/2011 for a stay in July 2011

We had a great time there, Rosie was very helpful with checking us in and giving various tips on what to do and see in the village and around. We travelled with a 1 year old baby and a baby cot was included in the apartment. In general, the flat was clean, nice and with the excellent view to the nearby mountains and the lake. Although the balcony is very small, but two people can squeeze in and enjoy the sunset with a glass of wine. The only real annoyance was that we were told that there will be a WiFi, but we never got it. We had problems finding wifi in the village as well, so it was the only mayor inconvenience.

The village itself felt very authentic, still not spoiled with tourist presence.

      Highly recommended!

      More than adequate

Left on 06/06/2011 for a stay in February 2011

Whereas I wouldn't describe this as a luxury apartment, (furnishings a bit tired, minimal tableware) - it was more than adequate. The sitting room is small, so once the sofa bed is down you can just walk around it. (But, by ski accom. standards, it was roomy!!)
The location and views are to die for. - having the little balcony with table and chairs was great, we had perfect weather and sat out there in the late afternoon sun looking out over the charming little town, the reservoir and the mountains beyond. It is a steep but quick stroll into town, shop and bar nearby.
The heating was fantastic. Plenty of hot water. Kitchen limited, but hey I wasn't there to cook. All in all we liked it, but there were a few things could improve, we especially missed an Info Folder telling us things like nearest shop/restaurant/opening hours etc. Overall I'd rate it ok but we were out all day skiing, it might have been a bit poky for 2 adults and a kid otherwise, i'd say it's great for two. It took us just over half an hour to drive up to the ski slopes by the back road, and we really liked being in a proper spanish village rather than staying up by the pistes.

      Delightful outlook

Left on 06/03/2011 for a stay in April 2011

A perfect apartment for us both, in a village within easy access by either local bus or car of Granada. Direction details, check in support and information was all very helpful, the apartment contained all that was needed and was very comfortable and cosy. Views across to the mountians were lovley. It would suit a small family. Based in a small pretty village it is a good spot from which to explore both the Sierra Nevadas and Granada.

Left on 05/28/2011 for a stay in April 2011

We stayed in this apartment for a week and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It is situated in a delightful village where the locals are really friendly and welcome you into their community. The village itself is nestled in the mountains which is so picturesque and tranquil. We chose to stay here as it is only 40 minutes from Granada and 20 minutes from the alhambra (which was our main reason for coming to Spain)so it was ideally located. There is a bus that takes you straight from the village to Granada so it was very easy to get about. The apartment was clean, well equipped and had a view to die for! The homeowners were very helpful and friendly and were easily contactable with any queries you had prior to your stay.

The only downside was that there was not enough information provided in the apartment about where to eat in the village, bus times etc and what to do in and around Guerja Sierra and Granada. We had an initation from Rose on arrival but ended up having to locate things ourselves, however once you got your bearings it was really easy to get around.

All in all we had a great time and would definately stay there again. A gem!!

      Nice apartment, great town

Left on 05/19/2011 for a stay in July 2010

The apartment was very hard to find, and the person who was supposed to let us in was not there at the appointed time. I almost thought we were going to have to look for someplace else to stay. Eventually we got connected with the manager, only because it's such a small town and everyone knows everyone. It's very small, with winding streets, not well marked and a very steep drive up to the garage. Not so easy for driving, but managed once we figured it out. Lots of expats, old folks and hippie types.

That said, it was a nice apartment with a lovely view of the river. We simply loved the little town, and liked ending our Spanish vacation with a more rural setting. The river was great for paddling and swimming. Very convenient for visiting the alhambra.

      Spanish Holiday Cottages

      Manager

We are contactable by telephone 24 hours a day and 7 days a week and all contact numbers are provided in our directions/arrival instructions! To make life simple for our clients, many of whom may not be used to finding their way around the small streets of a typical Spanish village, our keyholders arrange to meet them at the hotel at the entrance to the village on arrival and personally show them the best way to navigate to the properties. For this reason we ask guests to provide an estimated time of arrival so that the keyholders can be ready to greet them when they arrive. Our directions also request that clients let us know if they are likely to be delayed so that the keyholders can ensure that they are there. Our standard confirmation email also politely reminds clients to call if they need to change their arrival time. We always make every effort to be accommodating and if a property has no other customers departing that morning - then we will always do our best to accommodate early arrivals before the standard times in order to help people make the most of their holiday. Occasionally, as is the way of the world, people do stop off for lunch or turn up late for various reasons and forget that we are waiting. However to ensure that we are always contactable if clients miss their estimated arrival time, we provide no less than 5 telephone numbers on our directions - keyholder mobile, keyholder home telephone number, back-up emergency number for our local manager and the personal home telephone number and mobile number of the manager of Spanish Holiday Cottages. There is absolutely no reason to wander around the village looking for someone who knows the local manager. All that said, we are glad to hear that, after a confused start, Leslee enjoyed the property, the beautiful location and the paddling!

The little village is great. There little tapas places and the views of the mountains are amazing. Getting in and out of Grenada was not hard but the winding roads were not my wife's favorite part of this trip. The roads though are very easy to navigate.

A wonderful break in a perfect apartment.

Left on 01/14/2011 for a stay in December 2010

The apartment was absolutely beautiful and all was exactly as promised by Denise. The views are outstanding and as we live very busy lives it was just perfect for us to 'chill out' and enjoy some relaxation. In saying that, we had plenty of exercise exploring the fabulous local walks before strolling into the village at night to sample all the tapas bars! We are well used to Spanish village life but even we were overwhelmed by the friendliness of the locals.

Great place for exploring city and mountains

Left on 05/19/2010 for a stay in May 2010

Guejar Sierra feels very rural despite its proximity for Granada. A great place to stay for a combination of city and countryside.

The village itself has good shops and places to eat and is very friendly.

The surrounding mountains provide great walking and mountain biking terrain - our only problem was finding the trails as a lot of the local information was in Spanish and we did not find the information centre (which is a fair distance away) that useful - we would recommend taking maps/guidebooks with you. There is a good local leaflet about walks around Guejar Sierra but unfortunately it is only available in Spanish (and ours wasn't good enough to translate it accurately enought to follow the walks).

Granada is a fantastic city - one of our favourites. It is very easily accessible from Guejar Sierra.

The property itself is clean and well kept but does lack storage. It is well equipped and has a small balcony which is sunny and has fantastic views.

The road to the property is narrow and steep and you have to be confident driving on narrow, windy steep roads to access it and also when driving into the mountains.

Overall we had a very good stay and would recommend this property.

      Manager

Very glad to hear that this guest enjoyed her stay. We do try to keep our "house book" updated with local information and leaflets on local walks for our guests and our local keyholders are always happy to give advice. We can also offer guided walks for all levels, canoeing, climbing and mountain biking with qualified guides (please enquire at time of booking). Guejar Sierra is a traditional white mountain village, with picturesque narrow streets and donkeys - so drivers unused to mountains roads may not be confident at first. The pay off is in the stunning location with views of the highest mountains in Southern Europe and the beautiful Canales Reservoir. The village also has plenty of good tapas bars and restaurants within strolling distance - so it is not necessary to take the car to go out to eat.

The apartment is ideally designed for 2 people and furnished and equipped to high standard. While it can take up to 4 with the good quality sofabed in the living room - we do also have a larger, 3 bedroomed apartment right next door if more storage space is required.
