Additional Location Information
Location:
El Ladero Grande is situated in the pretty town of Guejar Sierra in the heart of the Sierra Nevada National Park and within a stones throw of a variety of interesting local bars and restaurants (many of which open up pools for customers in the summer), these apartments are perfectly situated. Historic Granada with the famous Alhambra Palace is only 20 minutes away, and in winter the Sierra Nevada ski resort at Pradollano is also now reachable within 30 minutes with the completion of the new direct link road. Stunning walks & countryside activities (fishing, birdwatching, climbing, canoeing, canyoning, cross country skiing paragliding etc) all begin literally on the doorstep. The fascinating troglodyte region around Guadix is close at hand and the beaches of the Costa Tropical can be reached within 45 minutes.
The Sierra Nevada national park is a designated area of outstanding natural beauty and the town of Guejar itself is typically Spanish and very pretty with its cobbled streets and neat white houses with flower draped balconies. It clings to the mountainside overlooking the mighty peaks of Europes most southerly ski resort. Guejar has long been popular, both as a summer and winter destination, among Spanish visitors - it offers the opportunity to combine both the varied skiing of the Sierra Nevada (with views of Africa from the upper slopes) and the experience of staying in a traditional Spanish village.
For other visitors Guejar also provides an excellent base to explore the beautiful historic city of Granada - home to the astounding Alhambra Palace. The legacy of the Moorish kings of Granada is everywhere - in the courtyards, fountains, gardens and buildings. Beyond Granada - the fascinating troglodyte region around Guadix and the beaches of the Costa Tropical can both be reached from here within 45 minutes, & the Alpujarras (the highest Villages in Spain - made famous by Chris Stewarts book - "Driving Over Lemons") are also within easy reach.
There is plenty to do in this area - Guejar Sierra has a number of local shops, a pharmacy, a bank, and various excellent restaurants to choose from - many with lovely terraces from which to enjoy the views while dining, and many with pools for the use of summer visitors. The local campsite also has an excellent restaurant with views, a pool, a play area, archery and other activities for children. The old funicular station at Maitena has been converted into a restaurant with dining and swimming on the banks of the River Genil in summer. There is canoe hire on the shores of the Canales Reservoir and horse-riding in the hills. The eccentric little bodega in the heart of the town is a great find and the welcoming moustachioed owner is a famous local character. There is also a water park near Granada and another at Almunecar. This is a great area for walking, mountain-biking, climbing and adventure sports as well as for family holidays and the cultural attractions of Granada. With the coast also within easy reach, there is something for everyone.
The people in Guejar are friendly and welcoming and, in typical Andalucian manner, the calendar is studded with local fiestas which keep alive traditions such as the Romeria in August, when the Gitanos, in their tight black suits, gallop their fine horses through the streets, each with a pretty girl on his pommel.
Although so close to Granada, Guejar Sierra is still very much a well-kept Spanish secret - barely discovered yet by tourists from other countries.

DelftGreat place for summer holidays in Spain
Left on 08/02/2012 for a stay in July 2012
Appartment booked by family with three teenagers.
Great base for various trips in a beautiful part of Spain:
Sierra Nevada (e.g. climb to peak Veleta), walking in Natural park, swimming at Camping Las Lomas or at waterpark aquaola in Cenes de la Vega, visit to alhambra/Granada.
Big appartment, luxureous kitchen and two bath-rooms, nice terrace (partly covered). Very friendly welcome on first day. Quiet place. Tip: rent a car to get around (Helle Hollis) -

BerlinLovely apartment with a nice view over the mountains in a authen
Left on 03/11/2012 for a stay in February 2012
Booking worked out well and easy over email. Key delivery though later in the evening was not a problem at all. We we're personally guided through the narrow streets of GĂĽejar (happy enough not having booked a bigger car). Three bedrooms, a cosy living room and a terrace with a great view over the mountains and the village. More than enough space for 6 people. Maybe just a bit more empty space in the cabinets and a few more coat hooks would be helpful especially if you go skiing every day. The apartment is located further up the hill but only about 5 minutes from the center of the village. It is a 40 minutes drive to Pradollano the skiing resort and worth every kilometer. GĂĽejar was probably the best choice we could make. Not touristic at all, but nice little bars and very friendly people.

GermanyOur Stay in Guejar Sierra
Left on 11/24/2011 for a stay in September 2011
We had a very nice time in Guejar. The appartment was well furnished + a parking lot. It could have been a bit cleaner (the bathrooms). We loved the area, Guejar is a phantastic location if you like mountains and great sceneries. Did lots of road trips into the surrounding valleys of the Sierra Nevada.
La Hacilla was our favorite restaurant - good food, very nice people there, good prices.
Granada was just around the corner with all the highlights, a car is essential though. I would always come back to Guejar Sierra - nice, quiet, enough infrastructure to get by, friendly people and very Spanish (that is, hardly any tourists).Response from Spanish Holiday Cottages - 01/08/2012
Manager
Our cleaning lady has always been excellent and very thorough and we have certainly never previously received anything less than praise for the high standards of presentation and cleanliness in this property. However I have requested that the local property manager makes an additional check on the property in future to ensure that everything is 100% up to standard and presented as we would expect if staying there ourselves!

Left on 11/19/2011 for a stay in October 2011
The service was very friendly and accommodating. The apartment was clean, comfortable and we had a relaxed, enjoyable stay.
The folder on things to do was a good idea.
I think it coult be improved by a few more things in the kitchen, i.e. a sieve for straining rice would have been handy. Also the TV was quite small and the Satellite had a wierd system whereby we could not get anything to watch in English.
However, we did enjoy our stay apart from that.Response from Spanish Holiday Cottages - 11/21/2011
Manager
Sorry to hear that the client could not find the English channels on the Satellite system. The keyholders are only a phonecall away and are very happy to answer any questions. However we will also take this feedback onboard and provide full instructions on the satelllite in the house book for future clients.
The kitchen should be fully equipped and we will check what's happened to the sieve!!
Very glad to hear that the clients enjoyed their stay. -

BostonA Great Stay in Guejar Sierra
Left on 08/11/2011 for a stay in May 2011
We had a great stay at El Laredo Grande during May, 2011. The apartment was great and the location was spectacular. Guejar Sierra is a small town about 30 minutes from Granada. The apartment is within a short walking distance from the center of the town. There are a number of restaurants, two small grocery markets, two pastry shops and a number of other small shops. There is bus service to Granada from the town center and the apartment has secure underground parking in the building. The views from the apartment are incredible. Driving through the town is an exciting experience. The streets are barely wide enough for one car but they are actually two way streets which requires careful timing and good backing up skills. Luckily there is very little traffic in town!
The apartment is fully equipped - it has a great kitchen, comfortable beds, indoor and outdoor dining areas and air conditioning. The wifi service is a little spotty but it worked well enough for us.
Denise was great to work with - the booking process was extremely easy and we handled all the payments through PayPal which was hassle free.
I highly recommend the apartment - we had a great stay and would love to return. -

from the initial stages of booking to the meet and greet everything was handled is an extremely professional and efficient manner.
the house was light, airy, beautifully warm (which is extemely important on a ski holiday) an offered excellent facilities through out.
location was perfect. right in the centre of the village and equally convenient for reaching both the slopes and granada (for the two non skiers in the group).
we loved the modernness of the apartment, the underground car park and all round suitability for ski holiday accommodation.

Augusta, GANot close in? Not a problem!
Left on 01/29/2011 for a stay in December 2010
My intention was to stay in Granada, but somehow I booked this apartment in the mountain village of Guejar Sierra instead. Turned out well for us; good bus service (1.40 euros each way, 40 min trip) allowed us to tour Granada, while staying in an actual 'white village' in the mountains. Communicate your arrival so someone will meet your bus...Rosie was a life-saver!
There was a garage, but I was glad I decided against driving. While it would have been nice to have a car to get out into the countryside, the mountain roads were unnerving. The apartment itself was modern and uncluttered. No TV cable or working wi-fi during our stay, but owners had a great collection of classic Dvds. Well equipped otherwise, and good heat.

Left on 12/17/2009 for a stay in October 2009
We have recently returned from a wonderful holiday at El Ladero Grande. We really liked the the property and the area and found it to be extremely peaceful and a retreat we were much looking for. What we specifically liked about the trip was;
*The accommodation was well-equipped and very clean
*The pre-holiday communication and support from Denise was spot on and very up-to-date
*The area of Guejar Sierra was exactly as descibed
*The keyholders were very helpful and even when we got lost, they texted us with specific directions
We really enjoyed our stay and would most definitely go back in the future. -

Left on 12/16/2009 for a stay in July 2009
We really enjoyed our stay in El Ladero Grande. Guejar Sierra is a great location for seeing the Sierra Nevada and the local people are very friendly. We couldn't find fault with the apartment, which was lovely - comfortable and well-equipped and beautifully decorated. We really appreciated the fabulous views across the valley and the regular bus service into Granada. We're sure we'll be back as we still have some unfinished business with the local walks! Both wish we were still there now!
