Good house for the money right on the beach close to the Hangout and the downtown area, House was clean only
problem we had was the internet didn't work. The company offered to send someone out but it would take a few days we just piggybacked on someone else's internet. Nice to be so close to town and the floors were all tile downstairs. When the family next door were running up their stairs or the washong machine was running the house would shake some but the balconies were worth the small problems. We also were traveling with 11 people and had plenty of room for everyone.
Would you recommend this vacation rental to a friend?

We will go back to the island, but hesitate to consider Bonhomme Richards. We used both East and West for our family. Everything was fine except for the roaches and mice. We had to clean any plate or cup before we used them. The bugs were everywhere in the kitchen, on packaged food, etcc. We washed the countertop in chlorox before we put anything on it. The mouse dropings were on the floor when we got up in the morning and had to be swept up.
We did not call for exterminators until we left because we had children with us.
The property is showing its age. The east upper outside light fell off the wall. The new stairs and railings were an improvement after our last visit, but my son had to use a hammer and crimp some nails sticking up in the middle of the new stairs. Some of the railings are loose and spin because only one nail was used.

I am writing to express my displeasure with our recent rental. My family and I have been coming to Gulf Shores 1-2 times a year for the past 25-30 years. We have always rented with Meyer, Kaiser or the state park and have never been disappointed. We wanted to give this company a try. The duplex we stayed in could have been very nice if it had been kept up. It was in such disarray that my husband went to the office with a list of broken items and problems the second day we were there. I don't even know where to begin, how about with the dirty foot prints on the walls which I myself cleaned off, no decorations (pictures--nothing!), marijuana in a bedroom drawer, no chairs on the deck (people in other duplex had taken all of them and we had to complain to get a few really cheap plastic ones from them), poorly stocked kitchen very little cooking utensils, no measuring cups or spoons, dirty bed spreads, unusable picnic table due to filth, broken doors that wouldn't close properly, linens too small for beds, broken toilet seat that pinched, broken DVD player, no internet, so many things wrong. Again I stress this is not our first time to rent, we have done so more times than I can count and have never had problems like this, I have never had a complaint about any previous property. We took our adult children and my parents and I was embarrassed at the state of this home. I don't believe I will, nor would I recommend this property to anyone.
Great time at the Bonhomme Richard West

Because of the oil spill we had to make other vacation arrangements. Young's Suncoast Vacation Rentals kept $90 of our money. We would gladly have contributed $90 to the cleanup effort, but resent having that money confiscated through no fault of our own. Bad policy. Hope you get lots of mileage out of it. We've rented a beach house every year for 20 years, but you'll never see any of our future business. Read more
Response from Young's Suncoast Vacation Rentals - 08/02/2010
The $89.00 processing fee is a non-refundable fee placed on any and all reservations. During the oil spill we removed our normal cancelation policy and refunded all but this amount. We are sorry for any confusion but this was a standard policy during that time.

The location of BR is amazing. Walkable from town and still outside
of the condo stretch near 59. The house, while completely
functional, could have a few upgrades. The porch had some
structural weaknesses that should be addressed and the plastic
chairs are wanting. Inside, it would be nice for smaller dinning room
chairs so that more could fit around the table (maybe ten) especially
because it has the capacity to hold 13. The appliances were
wonderful. the side windows could not be opened which made the
middle bedroom on the second floor hot at night. Lastly, the
couches were at a very awkward position for group activity and
group movie watching (we moved them during the week to an L
shape but moved them back after being told not to. This was just an
inconvenience we experienced. I realize I am being nit-picky. I want
to reiterate that the trip was wonderful and the house was more
than enough for our group. I just wish to be honest so that you may
be informed. We plan to book through Young's Suncoast again next
Also, this was out of your control but the neighbors often left beer
cans in the sand outside the house which were an inconvenience
coming back from night walks. They were very pleasant people
though who were never noisy or caused major disturbances.
Thank you so much and I hope these help. Have a great year and
hopefully we will be in contact about a booking for next spring!
Kids loved it!

It was our first time to rent a house. We have five kids and this worked out great! Easy to go to beach. We could sit on the deck and the kids play in the sand. The house also worked great for our needs.!The only thing it needed was a tv in the kids room for down time. We will be back
