BeijingGreat month away
Left on 05/07/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We arrived home a few days ago after spending a month here. My husband 2 girls (8) (3) and our au pair were joined for part of the time by my in laws and there was lots of room for everyone with 2 kids and 5 adults. The pool was amazing and there is plenty of space in the yard for the kids to play. Alain and Elizabeth were excellent and helpful they are always available but never intrusive. I enjoyed watching the birds and having my morning tea on the lanai every morning. The geckos are fun to watch and come out in the evening. We would love to go back another time.

Winchester, MAThe perfect vacation home.
Left on 02/27/2013 for a stay in February 2013
We just returned from a week on Maui at the Maui Pole House, and it was one of the very best vacations of my life. The pictures do not do it justice. The luxurious and very spacious house accomodated all eight guests with ease. It was extremely well appointed with anything that you might need from pool and recreational equipement (boogie boards, sand chairs, pool toys, croquet. . .), to books and Dvds, to kitchen utensils and appliances. Our family loves to cook, and everything was there-- lots of bowls and utensils and baking needs, a first class grill, an abundance of dishes and glassware (and plasticware for use around the pool). I've rented many houses in Europe and the U.S. and have never had one with such a well equiped kitchen, even in France!
The extensive grounds were planted and maintained perfectly by alan & Elisabeth. It was like being at our own private resort. We ate bananas, guava, and coconuts from the property. The pool, hot tub and patio area was just beautiful. The location was ideal with easy access to Kahului and the airport, beautiful beaches, shopping, and Haleakala National Park.
Alan and Elisabeth were the perfect hosts, extremely helpful, friendly and unobtrusive. They gave us great recommendations for local food sources and beaches, and alan shared his knowledge and samples of coconuts with us.
I could not recommend a vacation home in stronger terms. I only hope that I am able to return again one day. -

We can't recall a vacation being so enhanced by our accommodations. We loved the relaxed vibe of up-country Maui where the Pole House was a wonderful base of operations. There was plenty of room for our family of up to nine adults. Besides the beautiful setting, we really appreciated the home-like feeling: staples in the cupboards when we arrived (and which we gladly replenished), pool toys, beach blankets, etc. We felt privileged to be guests of Ron & Barbara, and well-cared for by alain on their behalf. One day we hope to return to Maui, and when we do, there will be only one possible place to stay!

OregonA beautiful vacation rental on Maui
Left on 12/02/2011 for a stay in November 2011
We just completed our second stay at this vacation rental. The home is very well kept and clean, and the addition and remodel only added to our enjoyment (completed in Nov. 2011). The household furnishings are of very good quality. Pictures do not do justice to the beautiful garden and pool area. We purposely spent at lot of time at the house, enjoying the spa, pool, and swaying in the hammock! This part of the island is very peaceful and quiet and if that is what you are looking for I highly recommend staying here. A great (and uncrowded) beach is just about 10 minutes drive away. We found several restaurants in the area (Haiku and Paia) that we frequented when we did not cook at the house. Also close is a good, well stocked natural food store (similar to Whole Foods, which is also in Kahului). The caretakers were available for questions, but also discreet and unseen unless we called them. We enjoy telling our friends about the Maui Pole House and highly recommend it.

Portland, ORUnforgettable vacation rental
Left on 06/27/2011 for a stay in May 2011
This is the second time my family has rented this beautiful home and I can't say enough about it.
The house is big and spacious, perfect for our family group of nine, including a toddler.
Having a large kitchen and big lanai allowed us to have family dinners outside, watching the beautiful Maui sunsets.
The caretakers are wonderful people, loaning us their jumper cables when our rental car battery died.
There is a pool and adjoining hot tub, both of which were appreciated at the end of the day.
This is a beautiful house with well-tended grounds and makes for an unforgettable vacation in Maui. -

Thank you Ron and Barbara for the wonderful memories we have from staying at your property. The house was more than we could've asked for. The birds each morning were such a treat, and the sunsets from the balcony were breath taking. We loved everything about our stay. Hope someday to come back again. :)

Sparta, New JerseyAbsolutely fantastic and very relaxing
Left on 04/22/2011 for a stay in April 2011
This was a first time trip for one of the grandparents and our very young children (2yrs and twins of 4yrs), to Hawaii. This rental made our vacation so easy, relaxing and stress free. Well situated on Maui with easy access to everything you could want. The property was very spacious, clean and quiet. The pool and spa enabled everyone to relax and have fun on the days that we didn't go out, in fact, it meant that our kids learnt to swim with the help of their grandparents. The gardens were beautiful with plenty of space for the kids to kick a ball and fly a kite. We loved being able to all relax on the deck in the evenings and eat our meals outside. The amenities in the house meant that we could pack very light. We also loved that the house was so well stocked, although, I would suggest that maybe milk and bread could be provided for guests on their day of arrival if travelling with young children. It would have made the following morning a little easier having flown in late the night before. This would be my only criticism if I had to make one. All in all a truly fantastic property, we were all exceptionally pleased with it and would really love to and hope to, come back another year in the not too distant future.

If you want paradise, you have found the right place. My husband and I booked this house to stay at with our parents. From the moment you enter the gate, it is like you are driving into this luxurious, exclusive estate - it is absolutely breath-taking. We spent a lot of time on the lanai whale watching and down my the pool relaxing. You wouldn't have to do anything else while you are here, this house is full vacation in itself.
The reason I didn't give it all 5 stars was that when we arrived, the two bedrooms downstairs smelled very strongly of air freshener. So much that we ended up not using the entire downstairs for the entire duration of our stay. We contacted the owners who had the house keepers remove the air freshener, but unfortunately there was more than one and only one was removed. Once we discovered the other air fresheners (since the smell wasn't going away) we unplugged them but unfortunately even with leaving the windows open, the downstairs didn't air out enough for us to sleep down there or use the space :( Two of the six people in our party ended up sleeping on the couch the entire time we were there which was a disappointment - if this hadn't been an problem, I would have given all 5 stars. -

South Haven, MichiganA lovely, peaceful setting
Left on 01/30/2011 for a stay in January 2010
Try to arrive at this lovely home during the daylight so that you can take advantage of the beautiful grounds and entrance. We arrived in the evening and although we were impressed with the house, we didn't fully appreciate how spectacular the property was until the next morning. The house is lovely and very comfortable. The furnishings are nice and the kitchen is fully equipped with new appliances and lots of utensils. We only needed to purchase fresh food and grocery items, most staples were provided. The pool is nice but we had a lot of rain and rarely got to use it. Our kids enjoyed the hot tub. Having a washer and dryer with soap and fabric softener provided was a real plus. There is a beautiful balcony where you can relax and enjoy the scenery. The location is great, just a few miles from Paia and not too far from Haiku and Makaewa where there are lots of shops and restaurants. It's very quiet and peaceful, which is what we were looking for. It's worth noting that the living area of the house is on the second floor and you must climb a set of exterior stairs to enter. The lower level is only accessible to the main house by this exterior staircase. There are only 2 bedrooms, both lovely, in the main house, the lower level has twin beds and a futon. Our only disappointment was the lack of beach chairs and an umbrella which we specifically asked about before our arrival. All in all, we had a great vacation and enjoyed our stay in this home.
Response from Alan & Elisabeth - 01/22/2013
Owner
Since then, scheduled remodeling took place back in November 2011 to include brand new Mahagony hardwood floor and a beautiful indoor spiral staircase, now linking both floors. We also added a unique double door main entrance access from the first floor, making the house even more luxurious and charming than before. With the recent change of ownership, beach chairs and umbrellas are now part of your every day enjoyment.

Words cannot describe the beauty of the grounds at this property. There are so many tropical plants, trees, birds, and butterflies. The pool area is like a personal oasis. The property is very private and secure. The property care takers alan and Elisabeth are very nice and provided outstanding service. Unfortunately the island had a propane shortage which resulted in the pool and hot tub not being heated during our stay. This was our only dissappointment with the property.

Gorgeous Maui, right outside my favorite island town of Paia. This place is really well done, elegant, functional, comfortable & exceeded our expectations in every way.
The accommodations are perfect... pool, hot-tub, views, convienience & a beatiful kitchen for anyone who enjoys cooking (the best organic food store on all the islands is 5 minutes away in Paia... big bonus). There are also great local restaraunts.
The grounds up-keepers are lovely, helpful & considerate.
We'll certainly return as often as we can... I would give everything about this property the highest rating.

We were fortunate enough to get to stay at the Pole House for 5 days in late October. We had come from a short stay in Kaanapali and knew from the moment we drove through the front gate, that the Haiku Pole House would need to be part of every future trip to Maui. The grounds are beautiful and make you feel as if you are experiencing the "quintessential" hawaiian way. Coconut palms, tropical flowers, rubber trees, ghekos and a wide variety of birds all add to the experience. The house is so welcoming and well equipped, with all needs anticipated that you cannot quite believe that the owners are willing to share this home with all. There is beautiful local art on the walls and the Koa kitchen is a piece of art in itself. It took a moment for us to get used to living in the tropics, as the Ghekos make an immediate appearance to welcome you to the pole house, but once we made the adjustment of "living in the tropics" we hardly noticed any of our initial "pauses" and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The caretakers are wonderful people and are there to make sure that your every need is taken care of. We enjoyed visiting with them and felt that they added to our experience at the Pole House. We traveled in to Haiku for dinner at Colleen's and donuts on a stick in Makawoa, but other than that we stayed and enjoyed the pool and hot tub, reading on the lower deck among the tropicals, and playing card games on the porch enjoying the gulch/ocean view. I left the Pole House with gratitude in my heart that the owners of this home were so generous to share their hawaiian mecca with our family.

Portland, OregonIt Was Paradise in Paradise!
Left on 04/21/2010 for a stay in January 2010
Our family (my husband, mother-in-law, 12 and 9 year old children and
myself) stayed at this great vacation home for 4 nights while visiting friends in
Haiku. It was beyond my expectations. The house was conveniently located to
many interesting small villages and it wasn't a long drive to the volcano or to
the lavender farm. Nice beaches are about a 10-15 minute drive away. The
grounds were lovely, the house was fully stocked and very comfortable and
the caretakers were welcoming. The house felt like a house and not a rental. I
spent a lot of time fantasizing that it was my own house and feeling very very
lucky. The art work in the house was fabulous and the sheets very soft. Lots
of birds come to the bird feeder on the veranda throughout the day and the
view is serene. Paradise!
Our kids didn't want to leave the pool to go sight-seeing - they would have
stayed at the house the whole time if it was left up to them. I would definitely
stay again. -

Left on 04/19/2010 for a stay in February 2010
We stayed at this property for over 10 days in Feb/March 2010. It is an awesome experience. Their were 9 guests with one child. Ages range from five to sixty five. Something for everyone. The house is fully stocked. Just buy some food and bring your clothes and you don't have to leave. Right off Hana Highway and not to far from Mamas Fish House. Would go back again. Caretakers were excellent. Never in site but if you needed something were there quite quickly. Loved the fact it was more rural and not in a tourist area. The oceanview was awesome and the yard is gorgeous. The pool is as big as some hotel pools to give you an idea of what you are getting and the hot tub is awesome especially at night with all the lights and tiki torches lit. Great experience in Maui and also if you have to go to business meetings not to far for driving. Highly recommended this property for a large group and big age range!

We have visisted Maui many times in the past and havent ever travelled from the resort oriented side of the island. Our experience in a private home was nothing like we'd ever experineced before. We often spent our days on the beach and in the past dreaded coming back to the hotel, this home made us want to come back. After a day at the beach there was still beauty to be enjoyed back home, something we'd never had before.
We came to celebrate the graduation of my son from college and daughter from high schoool, they each brought a friend and had the time of there lives relaxing and giving there minds a well deserved break.
We can't wait to come again, as long as our high pace life here on the main land permits.
Thank you so much for sharing a piece of paridise with our family and friends, the memories will last a life time.
Thankyou again

This visit to the Wilbur's pole house was just as great as previous times, if not better. We feel right at home as soon as we arrive and everything is always picture perfect! We love this side of the island - so much to see and do. But we are also very content to stay at "home" and relax by the pool.
Thank you Ron and Barbara for providing this very special place.
