I loved our stay! So different with its bamboo architecture in natural northside wilds. Lovely trails, waterfalls, and People! Such interesting guests and of course, Raphael and Kutira. Raphael teaches an amazing class on Tuesday nights, with, in our case, dance and improv singing. And, I loved my musical portrait that he recorded for me. Also, my special diet was supported by the very well-appointed kitchen. Such a rare and lovely experience!

I have stayed at the Maui Retreat for many years now when I've come to Maui. What they have done here is unbelievable - out of what used to be a jungle, they have created a space that is so beautiful, each building and area is sacred. It is built with bamboo and other sustainable products, and has sacred art all around. It is totally off the grid, and is a model of how we can live sustainably with nature. There is a sense of deep peace here, which contributes to deep relaxation and rejuvenation. I would highly recommend it as a place to rest and nourish yourself during your vacation on Maui. I am already looking forward to my next visit to the Maui Retreat, so I can explore the new sustainable inventions the owners have created. They are very dedicated to this land and sharing the best with it's visitors. Maui no ka oi! Maui's the best!

San Jose CAOur Own Private Waterfall? Priceless!
Left on 08/02/2012 for a stay in July 2012
This retreat is incredibly gorgeous and energetic, with beautiful structures everywhere peeking through the jungle on cliffs above the ocean. It is off the beaten path but not too far for a nice dinner out. Raphael and Kutira are sweet spirits, and magical trainers. And my wife and I spending some romantic time at our own 200 foot waterfall? Getting away does not get any better than this...

This was our second trip to Maui, and like our previous visit we decided to look for a B&B; away from the typical tourist traps. We do not like vacationing with 3000 "new" friends like you get on the West side of the island and always look for intimate out of the way B&B;'s. The Maui Eco Retreat certainly did not disappoint us in that respect. We loved the Thai Hale cottage! It was so secluded, and just what I needed after a hectic year of non-stop work. It took me a while to unplug, but when it finally happened, what a relaxing week. The secluded cottage, the intimate loft, the kitchen (and we made some amazing dinners), and the outdoor shower was to die for! We both loved our session with Raphael too! The grounds were amazing, and take the two hikes to both waterfalls if you can, just wear good shoes. With my wife and I both being in the architectural and engineering industry, and both Leed ap's, we loved the fact that the retreat was "off the grid", and that the cottage was made from "sustainable materials". Just remember a couple of things, this is the windward side of the island and it rains. The good thing is that the vegetation is gorgeous, but there are the occasional critters, but that is the price you pay for staying on the beautiful side of the island. Also, bring a flashlight. It is so remote, there is no ambient light (but that is a good thing). Also bring a candle, use it, take it home, and use it often. There is nothing like making love by candle light in the loft of the Thai Hale House! One last thought. I travel a lot. If you are like me, can you remember the last place you stayed at? Well I will never forget the week we spent at the Maui Eco Retreat. Aloha!

This is a very unique place and a rare experience of off-the-beaten-path Maui: lush, tropical, exotic, pieceful and extraodinarily beautiful.
We stayed in Thai Hale cottage - all made from bamboo and exquisitely decorated. The windows overlooking the jungle with tropical flowers, fruit trees and the ocean. The outdoor showers and the restroom both facing this idillic scenery, and you can hear the winds and the trees swinging above. You can take the trail down to the ocean, and the one leading to a waterfall, and few - bringing to some old Hawaiian temples - all these are located on their land so you'll have these - just to yourself.
Just keep in mind - the stairs in the cottage might not be very safe for small children. -

Do not take a taxi from the airport after a 20 hour flight the last thing you need is a driver who bursts into tears this is off road.If you want bars ,clubs, then do not stay here it is what is says on the tin a unique experiance, a green way of life no linen change no maid service if its yellow its mellow if its brown flush it down way of life ,it is on the windy side of the island which makes for a great cool nights sleep ,as this was our first time to Maui we wanted to see everything and clocked up 1100 miles in 10 days but it still was a treat to return here at night ,the owners are unobtrusive unless you leave the lights on,beware of the parrot it likes a nibble, chuckling Gekos and great views . Mamas fish house best restaurant on the island is a shortish drive away if a touch of luxury is required, the road to Hana is a feast for the eyes ,and watching the sufers as you driveinto Paia is jaw dropping .Be warned you may have trouble sleeping once you leave as this is serenity.

This is not a resort... this is not a place where one comes to be pampered... this is not a place where one follows the herd. This is a remote location full of wonder and solitude... this is where one comes to test their limits spiritually... this is a place where one finds a unique path.
You are truly off the grid and almost paradise here. Waterfalls... sky blue ocean... temples oh my. Be prepared to hike and seek adventure. If you journey, you will discover on this property.
The owners Kutira and Raphael are loving people who are more than willing to share their wisdom of their vast travels and experiences. They offer such a great perspective.
You will have as much interaction or solidarity as you wish. Wonderful hosts.
In one word...epic.
