Great location, excellent host, fully equipped

Left on 03/02/2013 for a stay in February 2013

We found this apartment on hallstatt.net and I am so glad we did! Ingrid, the owner, is terrific and as others have said, she has thought of every detail in terms of what you might need... really, a home away from home. I would make a list of everything Ingrid has provided her guests for use, but it would be too long! We were in Hallstatt for 4 nights in February and choosing to stay in an apartment rather than a room at a hotel was the best decision we made. Particularly when it's off-season and many, sometimes all, of the restaurants are not open in the evening. This apartment is well located, nestled among other homes in the side of the mountain with amazing views, easy walking distance to the ferry dock and to the grocery store and bus stop. Ingrid gave us our guest registration card and told us to carry it with us for discounts. Great advice, as it gave us free bus transportation to all of the neighbouring towns. We would highly recommend appartement Fallnhauser and if we ever return, this is where we would stay... without question.

      stunning views and perfect apartment

Left on 01/08/2013 for a stay in December 2012

I stayed together with my wife in apartment Fallnauser end of December 2012 and we enjoyed it a lot.
Hallstadt is a very special place loaded with history and with a very scenic atomosphere. It can also function as a base for visiting some other small towns arround the lakes of Salzkammergut.
As far as the apartment is concerned, it is simply perfect. Roomy, clean, perfect views of the lake and mountains, confortable and fitted with everything one could wish for. I think it is perfect for a couple in vacation. As a plus, Ingrid, the owner, is very friendly and sociable.
      We recommend it warmly.

Left on 11/02/2012 for a stay in October 2012

Stayed in this charming and quiet apartment overlooking the lake in Hallstatt for 3 days in October. Had an excellent stay, and can warmly recommend it to anyone looking for some quiet days in this scenic region. The fully equipped kitchen allows for gourmet home cooking, and there was access to free parking nearby. Also take a hike in the mountains nearby, or try out the spa in Ischgl. Ingrid was a fabulous hostess, and advised us on things to do which made our stay unique.

perfect place to stay in Hallstatt

Left on 10/29/2012 for a stay in September 2012

My husband and I stayed at Ingrid's apartment for two weeks in September. This was our third time there; we keep going back because it's perfect. Hallstatt is beautiful (sometimes overloaded with visitors), there are lots of places to go in the area---many excellent walks, the apartment is in a great location (grocery store, bakery, butcher, even fish store are nearby,) with fabulous views of the lake and mountains, it's tastefully furnished and extremely comfortable (two places to sit and eat indoors (one with a great view out a large widow and one in the adorable kitchen)and two outdoors (one in the backyard terrace and one on the shed's balcony. The place is stocked better than any other place we've been:tablecloths, napkins, toiletries, robes, every pot and pan, bowl, nice dish and glassware you van imagine, plus apron, spices, flour, dried soup, etc. etc. etc. We cooked a lot (saves quite a bit of money) and felt like we were at home, only next to a mountain lake. Ingrid is great, very helpful, caring, accommodating, and thoughtful. It's a great place to spend an extended amount of time, a home away from home.

      Wonderful stay

Left on 10/28/2012 for a stay in October 2012

We loved our 5 night stay. The apartment was perfect and had everything and more that we needed. It's location can't be beaten with amazing views of the lake. Ingrid very kindly stocked us up with bread, cheese, milk, eggs, breakfast cereals, jam, honey, tomatoes and more, so we had plenty of food until we had chance to get to the supermarket. The supermarket is only a few minutes walk away, but closed on a Sunday when we arrived. We only ate out once as we didn't think any restaurant could match our candle lit table for two looking out on the lake, with our choice of music playing on the docking station. Other things that we appreciated were having wifi and a DVD player. We feel very fortunate to have stayed here.

Best view & coziest suite in Hallstatt

Left on 10/17/2012 for a stay in July 2012

We stayed at the apartment in July and although it poured with rain for 3 days straight, we enjoyed Hallstatt from this wonderful convenient location. The apartment had every little thing we could need, it was warm and cozy and clean. We were able to prepare meals easily because the kitchen was stocked with utensils, cookware and spices. The decor is tasteful and comfortable, and the view from this apartment is spectacular. The small touches, such as the tapestry hanging on the wall, the books in the cupboard, and the houseplants gave a homey feel without feeling cluttered. Ingrid was a wonderful host, she placed bread, cheese and fruit in the kitchen for our arrival, showed us how to recycle everything, supplied us with extra pillows, and was a font of information about where to eat and what to do. We found our visit incredibly peaceful and relaxing and we will definitely return. I would recommend this apartment to anyone as a wonderful place to stay, in our opinion the best place to stay in all of Hallstatt.

A truly delightful apartment in an amazingly beautiful location

Left on 10/17/2012 for a stay in September 2012

Our host, Ingrid, was so helpful and friendly. This apartment would be one of the cleanest, best-located and best equipped accommodations that we have ever stayed in. The view from the windows was second to none. Imagine eating breakfast, lifting your head and seeing a mountain lake within 50m, mountains across the lake, moody clouds drifting over the lake, a white family castle on the other side. Walk down the stairs and across the narrow street and you're walking along the lakeside. Fallnhauser apartment exceeded our high expectations. What a place to base yourself for several days. Valleys to walk, cable cars, ice caves. So much to do or do nothing if you choose. You win either way.

Discover little walkways through and above the town. The apartment is very private and so comfortable. Ingrid is to be highly commended for being such an attentive host. The bakery mentioned in other reviews is a delight and is so close. If Hallstatt is your destination, you can do no better than stay here.

A beautiful and charming apartment - highly recommended!

Left on 09/27/2012 for a stay in July 2012

We stayed in the apartment for 5 days in July 2012. Hallstatt is such a charming and beautiful place, there is so much to see and do and there are so many cute little details to discover (beautiful little gardens and balconies, flowers, shops and the backdrop is simply breathtaking). We fell in love with the place last year when we stayed for only one weekend in a hotel. This year we chose to stay in an apartment and it was such a good decision. Ingrid's apartment is simply perfect. I cannot recommend it enough. The apartment itself is so charming and room layout is very good. It has just the right size and offers everything you could need on a vacation (fully equiped kitchen, a storage room for clothes and your luggage, TV, wifi, a very comfortable bed etc.). When we arrived the apartment was immaculately clean and stocked with many fresh towels, bath robes and everything else you could possibly need or have forgotten at home (loads of condiments in the kitchen, blow dryer, all kinds of toiletries, tourist guides for the area etc.). Ingrid even offered to go to the supermarket for us before we arrived because it was already closes quite early. She was the perfect host, very kind and helpful. I could rave about the apartment and Hallstatt for hours, but the bottom line is: if you are thinking about staying at the apartment, do it, you will not regret it. We enjoyed this so much more than a regular hotel room because it has so much more character and charm. And did I mention the views? They are fantastic! :-)

We spent a wonderful week in Hallstatt. Ingrid's apartment was of the highest standard, better than any hotel. Couldn't fault the cleanliness nor the location. Every morning it was a pleasure to wake up to the beautiful outdoors. We especially enjoyed having our meals by the open window overlooking the lake. The local supermarket and bakery were just a five minute walk from the apartment and had everything you could possibly need as had Ingrid's apartment. She certainly had thought of everything! Local Hotels provided excellent meals especially the Gruner Baum. The food and the service comes highly recommended.Ingrid was an excellent host and we look forward to seeing her again very soon. We recommend this apartment highly and most definitely give it 5 stars. We promise you won't be disappointed.

All in all I give this place my full recommendation.

Perfectly equipped "Home away From Home" in a wonderful area

Left on 08/26/2012 for a stay in August 2012

Situated just above the sea front (access over picturesque stone stairs or a little footpath above the house), Apartment Fallnhauser is a perfect location to spend a relaxed and comfortable vacation. You are really close to the lake and everything in town, but far enough above the road to be away from the bustling tourist crowd. Perfectly equipped, nicely furnished, the bed is very comfortable indeed. When you wake up in the morning on a fine day, the sun, reflecting in the lake, projects a lovely "show" of light and movement on the ceiling. The view out of the window is spectacular at any time of the day, and in any weather.
When the weather is fine, you'll have breakfast on the little balcony by the shed, and when it gets too hot, you'll sit in the cool rock garden - and in bad weather, the little table near the window is a nice place to sit and have your meals while looking out over the lake (not that we had any day with bad weather, only a few brief showers or one half a day of rain.)
Nothing like walking down the stairs, crossing the road and stepping into the lake for a refreshing swim after a hot day! There's a wooden platform and even a ladder leading into the clean, fresh water. When you turn round to swim back to shore, you have the wonderful and unique view of the whole town in front of you!
Ingrid is a wonderful host, very thoughtful of everything for your comfort, I have never stayed in any holiday apartment which was so well equipped and looked after - there was even fresh milk, fruit, veggies in the fridge, and of course there are things like sugar, flower, spices, oil, a very special Balsamico vinegar, tea, coffee...whatever "basics" you need for self catering. The little supermarket is a few minutes to walk, it provides fresh food and all other little things you might need, and a bakery is even closer.
An invaluable plus for Hallstatt is that Ingrid provides you with a free parking space within under ten minutes walking distance, and you can park in front of the house for unloading the car on your arrival (you have to carry your things up the stairs...).
You can start for little or bigger walks in the forests directly from the house, and of course the hiking destinations in the Dachstein area and other mountain regions are very easily accessible, too. A visit to the romantic "Waldbachstrub", a picturesque waterfall in the middle of the forest, is an absolute must. It inspired so many painters and poets, and no wonder! About one hour's walk there, easy to make in an afternoon.

Another very recommendable highlight: I booked the special "Prehistoric Guided Tour" of the salt mines which is offered once weekly. In a small group (maximum 12 participants), you enter the salt mines with an experienced guide, visit areas where the other tourists never get, see the sites where prehistoric salt miners left their traces and exciting remains. The tour lasts about 4 hours, includes a walk over the world famous Hallstatt grave site where archaeologists are still doing research each summer and is an unforgettable experience for people interested in ancient history.

I could go on and on...I can only say, go and stay at Indgrid's and you won't regret it!

      A little piece of heaven.

Left on 06/17/2012 for a stay in May 2012

There's always a sense of apprehension when arriving at your chosen self catering accommodation, past experiences with selecting accommodation from the web descriptions and photos have given us disappointing holidays.
What a relief to find this beautiful well furnished cosy retreat exactly as it was described on the web. Fantastic views from our window looking straight out onto Lake Hallstatt with ever changing scenery. Check out the clouds being born over the neighbouring village Obertraun, we could have watched them for hours, in fact I think we did!
We stayed in Hallstatt at the beginning of the tourist season, May, and it wasn't overrun with tourists and all the surrounding attractions ie:- Salt Mine, Ice Caves etc weren't busy but I imagine towards august that all changes. Hallstatt village is very pretty with lots to discover, bring a camera as there are plenty photo opportunities. We found eating out wasn't too expensive but the downside most places finish up around 9.00pm with last orders for food 8.30pm. Austrians love their meat and fish but accompanying vegetables or salads are scarce.

If you come from a busy, noisy, stressful city, this is the place for you to unwind. I haven't slept so well for years!
Ingrid, your host, is a lovely lady, nothing is too much trouble. She has created a very comfy stylish apartment using every available space, in fact you will need for nothing, it's all there!
Don't hesitate booking this superb apartment, you will love it, book it now.

The apartment is well appointed with a beautiful interior, awesome views of the surrounding area, and a kitchen that accommodated all of our cooking needs. We have traveled extensively and have never stayed in such a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing apartment.

Thank you Ingrid for your attention to all of our needs and for making our stay one of the best holidays we have ever experienced. We will be back next year!

Wonderful apartment, totally out of expectation

Left on 05/17/2012 for a stay in May 2012

Ingrid's apartment is a piece of art. It is newly renovated, clean, well decorated with modern design & good taste. It gave a cozy feeling & we wanted so much to treat it as our "real" home. We especially like the charcoal wooden floor and the earth tone of the furniture & beddings. Not to mention the well equipped kitchen with all the tools you need to prepare a feast during your stay. Hallstatt is a wonderful place if you love nature. Visiting the Ice Cave, Gousausee & St. Wolfgang are all good experience to get close to nature, smell the fresh air & to be embraced by the woods. Last but not least, we would like to thank Ingrid for her hospitality, she is very detailed oriented on taking care of the needs of the travelers. I would say it would be very hard to find another apartment or hotel with comparable standard. We really miss her apartment. Thanks for the memorable experience that we would treasure for the rest of our life.

      Fabulous stay in Hallstatt~

Left on 02/27/2012 for a stay in February 2012

It has a fully equipped kitchen, which is my favorite, also for those people who like cooking (with local food material). You can find almost every ingredient like flour, suger, salt, noodle and there are coffee, kinds of tea, etc...
It's just like my own apartment in Hallstatt. The sofa and bed is also comfortable. You can find nice CDs near the Hifi. Lovely candles and fragrance Lamp is in the chest near the bed. You also could find books and even puzzles there.
The apartment is by the lake, but it is like sitting on a glass shop near the small road by the lake. There are about 20 steps. It is easy to find the place, just 40-50 meters after pass the bakery which is near the tunnel.
The owner of the apartment is a nice person who makes you feel warm and sweet.
      I'll defenitely come back someday.
It's a lovely place especially for families and couples.

      "Unsere" Wohnung in Hallstatt

Left on 12/15/2011 for a stay in May 2011

Fantastic place to stay in Hallstatt

Left on 11/14/2011 for a stay in November 2011

We booked the apartment without any big expectation since we're not really that fussy and were looking forward to visit Hallstatt anyway. The owner had initially contacted me through email to pass pinpoint direction to her place, and that in itself impressed me enough. When we arrived late on 2nd Nov, we found the place to be quite a small steep climb before reaching her place. Ms Ingrid (the owner) proceeded to take us to the apartment and voila! the best apartment we've ever been to! Everything was completely prepared for the guest and we were lost for words for the effort Ms Ingrid took to make our stay enjoyable. She was very kind, helpful and hospitable; plus the fact that her apartment was absolutely gorgeous and impressive we enjoyed staying in the room and just relax and kill time as much as we enjoyed Hallstatt. I might sound too good to be true, but i'm just giving my honest opinion and review, and there is nothing more that i can add. This place is absolutely wonderful. My complain can only be: why didn't you tell us how wonderful this place is, Ms Ingrid, for we could have stayed a wee bit longer? Thank you again, Ms Ingrid, and thank you, Hallstatt. Hopefully we'll visit you again in the future and no question where we would stay then.

Full of details and cozy apartment

Left on 10/08/2011 for a stay in September 2011

My husband and I traveled for three weeks through Italy and austria and stayed in many hotels, except for Hallstatt. We chose the beautiful apartment we found online and stayed four nights. That one was the best choice of all! Ingrid, the owner, thought as a guest when deciding how to decorate and furnish her apartment. She thought of every single detail in the kitchen, so you can feel at home with all the amenities you need to cook any meal, such as cooking oil, vinegar, ground coffee, sugar, etc. She left us in the fridge sliced bread, butter, cheese, milk, as a headstart. She also left in the counter a basket with fruit. We bought in a supermarket what we needed for our stay and we cooked every day, and realized that there was everything in the kitchen, pots, pans, etc.
The bathroom has a very good size and also is equipped with everything you might have forgotten at home. Shampoo and conditioner, soap, disposable razors, body lotion, etc.
The bed is very comfortable, the closet is big enough. To get to the apartment you should climb about 30 steps, but in Hallstatt that is a standard. The views from the windows leave you speechless.

      Highly recommendable high standard accomodation

Left on 09/22/2011 for a stay in September 2011

Apartment Fallnhauser is a perfect holiday accomodation in every way:
It is beautifully situated above Lake Hallstatt - you enter the flat and have this spectacular view from the window over the lake. Watch wonderful sun rises first thing in the morning!
It is perfectly equipped, you won't miss any detail in kitchen, bathroom and living area - there's even a laptop for guests who don't bring their own! The walk-in closet is perfect for stowing away many things. The bed is fantastic! We enjoyed the outdoor sitting spaces very much: breakfast in the morning sun on the little balcony, or coffee in the afternoon sitting in the cosy little patio. Everything in town is within a few minutes walking distance; going to the butchers is a nice little sightseeing walk in itself, for example. The area offers such a lot: wonderful easy walks and demanding hiking tours, beautiful scenery and nature; nice places and towns to visit - and guests with an interest in history will be very happy: the area looks back on 7000 years history of human settling, which is presented in an excellent museum and historical sites like the salt mines.
Ingrid is a wonderful host - she provides you with everything you might possibly want - in our case for example a forgotten cord connecting the camera to the computer. She recommends walks, tours, activities, restaurants to you ... if you wish so; she is a weather expert; she can tell you where to find cyclamen in blossom - and she is just a wonderful person! So, I wholeheartedly recommend apartment Fallnhauser to anyone who is looking for a perfect holiday accommodation!

Left on 08/09/2011 for a stay in October 2010

Apartment Fallnhauser offers beautifully presented accommodation in tranquil surroundings. The apartment makes great use of space and Ingrid, your very thoughtful host, has considered and anticipated just about every detail a traveller could need from bilingual tourist information to Wifi, a DVD player, and very well-equipped cooking supplies. The town itself is small and quiet, but is very picturesque. We were there at the end of October when the weather was quite cold and it even snowed, but Ingrid's apartment is very warm and cosy and the view from the window means you can still appreciate the scenery without leaving home. That said, we still managed to do lots of great walking in the immediate vicinity and other salzkammergut towns are still easily accessible too -- we found Bad Ischl and the salt bath spa particularly interesting/fun. It was a great trip and I would love to return one day!

Apartment Fallnhauser is situated in a fantastic location, both within the village and in terms of scenery. The apartment nestles low in the hillside and is accessed from the lovely lakeside promenade, via a couple of flights of stairs. The main room is spacious and well divided into living room and bed areas - here, two large windows overlook the lake, and a third has a beautiful mountain view. A table and chairs are next to the main window which opens fully so you can enjoy the view, and fresh air, perfectly. Ingrid refurbished the apartment earlier this year, and the decor/furniture are stylish, funky and comfortable. A small but very cute balcony is available next to the tool shed, and overlooks the lake, perfect for breakfast in the sunshine ! There is also a tucked away patio area for outdoor eating.Ingrid herself is a wonderful hostess, and could not do enough to help us... whenever we asked (which was several times!). She even went out of her way to help us get a new sim card as we had a phone problem ! We would highly recommend staying here - it is a holiday you will always treasure. It is a perfect location in which to relax, explore and for outdoor activities. (for info: would not recommend to anyone unstable on their feet as there are quite a few, uneven, steps to the apartment).

      Home away from Home

Left on 07/20/2011 for a stay in June 2011

Twenty-one years ago we visited Hallstatt at Rick Steve’s suggestion and this magic lake-side village in the historic salt mining district lingered in our memory. For our 20th wedding anniversary, we returned to Hallstatt, a little afraid maybe “you can’t go home,” but Ingrid’s apartment in her newly renovated ancestral home is the perfect “home away from home.”

Appartement Fallnhauser is wonderful value and beyond your highest expectations, as others said. For the price, the apartment is more homey and better equipped than almost any apartment we’ve ever stayed in and we’ve traveled a great deal. There is a very well stocked kitchen with spices, fresh fruit and veg, a bathroom with every convenience, including shaving cream and toothpaste. The walk-in closet has cozy bathrobes and slippers and there are large umbrellas to grab to continue explorations on rainy days. Flower-festooned windows in every room let the sunshine in and provide access to the breath-taking scenery. A docking station allowed us to listen to our favorite jazz station on our iphone while toasting each other looking out at the charming rooftops and lake.

Ingrid is the consummate host and easily becomes a friend. Because she was born in the village, she is very knowledgeable about the history, people and customs of this fascinating village. She provides piles of tourist information at your fingertips and can steer you in the direction of the best restaurants. We enjoyed delicious regional fish dishes at restaurants she recommended in and out of town. It’s fun to visit her arts and crafts store, too, on the promenade facing the lake. Because Ingrid has spent significant time in North america, it was fun swapping stories with her, too.

We enjoyed Ingrid’s place so much, we extended our stay. We highly recommend appartement Fallnhauser.

"We have traveled all over the world and Fallnhauser is one of The Best. Start with the train ride that stops at Hallstatt. Then board the Stephanie for a brief sojourn across the lake. When you arrive, Fallnhauser is only a brief walk up the main street.

Once inside the apartment you look out your bedroom window and find the quiet beauty of the lake. On our first evening, there was even a brief thunderstorm that made the mood even that more romantic.

The apartment is completely equipped with everything that you would need for a week or a month. As a native of Hallstatt, Ingrid is quite charming and is available to offer ideas on the locale but is always respectful of your privacy.

The pictures of the apartment only begin to tell the story of the charm, romance, and tranquility that we found in Hallstatt. There are just a few places in the world that we have visited that can compare with Fallnhauser. If you miss Fallnhauser you will have lost a chance to experience the real austria."

We stayed at apartment Fallnhauser twice in the last three years and intend to return next year for another two weeks. It's a perfect self catering place on many counts: location---very close to a good bakery and grocery store (fish store too) and beautiful setting overlooking the lake; ambiance---spacious, immaculate, tastefully decorated, very well stocked kitchen and bathroom, and spectacular views from the big windows and cute little
balcony---there's also a "backyard" terrace for grilling and eating outdoors. Ingrid is very cheerful and helpful; she made great suggestions for side trips to places we didn't know about. Everything here is charming and comfortable.

We were very close to give up searching for dissent accommodation in Halstaat when Ingrid replied that surprisingly she has a vacancy for our 3 days.

Her replies to our so many inquiries were prompt & detailed. And we decided to bless our good luck & trust her.

The place was truly beyond our highest expectations. To start with a parking solution which is critical matter in hallstaat, best location in the old city just above the promenade, with no less than 3 (!) windows looking directly into a masterpiece picture no artist could display so vividly.
The Clean & so warmly decorated apartment is equipped with just about all the good reasons never to step outside, and if fresh local bread is needed for an amazing breakfast on the Rock terrace, the local bakery is 78 seconds walk and the town supermarket is 248.5 seconds.
20 disks of the finest classic composers collections are ready to be installed (repeatedly...) into the perfect audio system. And there is no other background to match that scenery.
Anything you may desire to experience is walking distance & Ingrid has gathered all relevant tips & information just for you to pick up & choose.
      We will surly return
