Melbourne, AustraliaResearch carefully!
Left on 10/30/2012 for a stay in October 2012
This apartment, along with all the apartments in this group are individually owned and appear to have no consistency in standard even though they are "managed" by a central office responsible for bookings & presumably maintenance etc.
For this particular apartment the positives were: Very good size rooms, great views, huge balcony, use of golf buggy to get around & airport transfers included in price, pleasant and helpful meet & greet staff.
The negatives were: Despite the extras included, the accommodation is a bit pricey for the overall standard (ie. decor & fit-out including furniture is tired, crockery and cutlery are in oddments, chipped glassware). All in need of a refurb.
8 of the lights & lamps in our apartment didn't work due to either missing or blown bulbs (who checks this stuff??), no door on the en-suite bathroom (it had been removed at some point and never replaced), the private BBQ on the balcony was dirty on arrival (we never used it) and the general level of cleanliness just felt slightly grubby. There are more "rules" than you can poke a stick at detailing do's and don't's, including the threat of extra charges if you fail to leave the BBQ clean on departure (!!), fail to take the garbage out, leave any marks on towels, fail to wash & put away crockery, fail to leave the electric buggy charged up etc. etc. etc. None of these things is unreasonable and most people would probably do them without thinking, but given that quality control checks seem to be non-existent, the rules seem a bit of a farce.
We managed brief glimpses of other apartments and some appeared more recently refurbished. If looking at these apartments our advice is to pick very carefully by asking the booking office (before booking) when the apartment was last refurbished, you can't go totally on the website photos.
Hamilton Island is a great holiday destination, very busy and caters for all categories of holiday makers. Generally speaking these particular apartment blocks cater for anyone and everyone and can be very noisy. They are especially popular with families, and we also had a group of young revelers adjacent to us. Although the balconies are visually private, the noise transfer from others is not! again, it's luck of the draw as to who is next to you, or nearby, and not the fault of the apartment, but if you want something quieter or even romantic, give these apartments a very wide berth. There are many more options tucked away around the island.Response from Hamilton Island - 12/05/2012

Hi Tony,
Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback.
The golf buggy really is a great way to get around the island, I’m glad you enjoyed it and the amazing views over Catseye Bay from the balcony.
The properties in which we manage will vary in standard as they are all individually owned, however they are rated and priced accordingly. Meaning, there will be differences in nightly rates’ within the same apartment block, e.g. within Frangipani the standard of each property will vary. Frangipani 207 is not a renovated unit and the rate is reflective of this standard.
Your feedback has been passed on to the on-island caretaker and the property owner. The manager of the cleaning company has extended his apologies regarding the maintenance issues you had during your stay, e.g. blown globes and the BBQ. The properties are thoroughly inspected following each guests’ stay and prior to the new arrival, he is unsure how these things were missed, but assures me that they have all now been rectified. Your arrival fell on the cusp of a scheduled deep-clean, which includes the BBQ being pulled apart and given a good clean. They do ask that guests leave the BBQ clean for the new guests and this should have been checked prior to your arrival - apologies. (Please note: on inspection of the BBQ, they are are greased to prevent rusting from the island tropical weather. This can sometimes be mistaken for not being clean).
Once again, thank you for your feedback.
We hope to see you in the future. We manage a great range of properties on the marina side of the island which are quieter, which you may enjoy more next time.
Warm regards,
Luxury Private Apartments

Brisbane, AustraliaLovely location

This is my 4th visit to Hamilton island over 20 years. There certainly have been some changes, mostly for the better, but some for the worse. The Frangipani apartment block is at the end of Catseye Beach which makes for a reasonably quiet area as you are away from the majority of visitors. The apartment itself is spacious and well-presented. Tv's in the lounge and both bedrooms. The kitchen has everything you need. Including a full size fridge/freezer which was handy as we ordered our food through Coles online and this saved a large amount in food bills. The complimentary buggy was great. The view from the balcony is lovely and it was great relaxing each afternoon while enjoying it. The specials offered with the 7 day rental were great and we enjoyed a complimentary day out to Whitehaven beach.
There were only a couple of disappointmenting areas. Someone has removed the door to the bathroom in the main bedroom, so there is no privacy. The DVD wasn't working and despite telling them in the first couple of days, it was never replaced. The BBQ is old and tired and needs to be replaced with something that actually works in less than an hour.
And if you don't have young children, this apartment may not be for you. It's almost next to the pool and we were woken up just after 6.00 a.m. on several mornings by people with young kids who obviously forgot they weren't in their own home and there might be others around who didn't share their enthusiasm for early morning swimming and playing.
Overall a good apartment in a great location. I would recommend it to others. -

The service was great, picked up from airport, by a lovely girl, and we had a great apartment, with views to die for. It was clean and tidy, and vey comfortable. The location was good, as we were out of the way of the hustle & bustle. The pool and beach, was close by and spent lots of time swimming. Very relaxing, and within walking distance to main pool area and shops.
We all really enjoyed the whole experience, and will go there again for sure. -

We visited in an unexpected very wet period - rained the 6 out of the 7 days - but - I have to say the apartment was so well set up - huge balcony , BBQ etc, that it was still an enjoyable holiday. Groceries pre-ordered from Coles on-line was a great service. Very comfortable stay.

I went to Hamilton for the first time ever. I had read many reviews about apartments, and they seemed like a good idea. Firstly it was expensive. At close to $300 a night it would have been great if there were two couples in our place ( it was a two bedder). It was on the second floor but we got better views from up there. Stairs don't bother us.The apartment furnishings were OK...nothing very special. My biggest disappointment was the TV. I believe with the current price of plasmas these days ( Good guys around $500) that is what we should have been watching. But instead it was a very lame old small TV and the reception was lousy. The bedroom had a flat screen...which we watched a lot. Pluses of a unit...own kitchen is great. Heaps of room. And a huge plus is the buggy. The island can be walked...and we took a shuttle once for a look..but we loved the buggy.
But don't forget...this is a beautiful part of the world. You come here with the knowledge that you will need to spend money for day trips and food. If you want cheap relaxation ...this isn't the place. -

Lovely views off the balcony. Overall a nice apartment, but there's nothing much to recommend the island. Everything's old and tired, yet very expensive. The beach is pretty awful. I had fun getting drunk and screaming around on the golf buggy but the highlight of the trip was definitely leaving the island and seeing the great barrier reef. Still, if you go to Hamilton, I would definitely recommend this apartment.

Frangipani is well located on the island and we valued the use of the unit's buggy for getting around.
We found the unit clean and spacious, although not ultra modern. Stairs only to upper levels.
This complex had a pool & BBQ area which was ideal for a relaxing and more private holiday.
The contact staff were friendly and helpful. -

Impressed with the personal greeting at the airport and welcome to the apartment. The apartment was very roomy and had all the facilities required and then some. However a bit more attention to maintenence would improve the overall impression. Loved the location with its views, gardens, pool and the cart to run around in was great too. The design of the apartment made it feel spacious and a joy to stay in. The fly screens to the verandah were hard to use and the kitchen cupboard doors were ill-fitting and a light was detached from the ceiling. These faults were reported and are now hopefully fixed. Apart from this lack of maintenance we were really impressed

Canberra ACTFirst visit to Hamilton
Left on 04/01/2011 for a stay in July 2010
Our room was comfortable but very tired looking, especially the kitchen. The unit was at the very end of the complex and unfortunately it overlooked a construction site. Each morning the heavy machinery started up around 8am and went nearly all day. We could not sit out on the balcony most days because of the loud noise. It was very disappointing. I have been offered a 10% discount on my next holiday and I do not consider this to be fair compensation. The pool was great but it was too close to the noise to enjoy.
However the island itself was beautiful.
