Collinsville, Illinois“A very special B&B; for a unique and private get-away.”
Left on 02/28/2013 for a stay in February 2013
This B&B; is in a private location on 4 acres and is landscaped like a minature Botanical Garden. You can enjoy an outdoor kitchen on the patio. It is so relaxing to sit outside and have breakfast and dinner with no bugs to bother you. There is always a nice warm breeze. You can see the ocean from 2 sides of the deck and from your bedroom. The outside shower and tub are a unique choice to use (totally private). When it rained during the night, it made it seem so peaceful and so refreshed in the morning. The air is so clean. Your bedroom has 2 sides that have windows at bed level that you can open and let the ocean breeze blow through. The owners (Sam and Mercury) are so particular with the yard and it is breathtaking. They are 2 very special ladies to meet, so kind and honest. They are always there if you need anything; otherwise, you never knew they were there. We are keeping this as a favorite place to stay and will be back the next time we get back to Maui. This is truly a very special B&B; that tops all of the other places we have stayed during our travels.

Los AngelesDream Time in ala aina Ocean Vista
Left on 12/09/2012 for a stay in November 2012
We just came back from ala aina Ocean vista. We fell in love when we first drove to the land. It was raining the whole way when we were driving, but a spectacular sunset greeted us as soon as we walked into our room. We felt like we walked into a heavenly paradise. This is one of our most favorite B&B; that we’ve ever stayed. Sam and her daughter Mercury have done a fantastic job to keep the B&B; so beautiful, so serene, so unique, and so rejuvenating. It washes your soul and brings peace into your world. Mercury is an artist. We love every detail that she puts into for the decoration. We spent a lot of time in the lanai to enjoy the gorgeous sunrise and sunset and the view of the garden. It was amazing to take the outdoor bath and watching the sun going down. We are not huge fan of cooking when we are home, but it was joyful and fun to cook while taking photos of different views every day. The fruits are so fresh and delicious and make our mouths watering while writing this review. Sam and Mercury, thank you much for this unforgettable vacation. Absolutely there is no question that we will go back. This is a paradise and it’s beyond the words can express.

Averill Park, New YorkVery peaceful stay, Happy to have stayed two nights
Left on 12/04/2012 for a stay in May 2012
At first we were just going to stay in Hana one night; however, most of the rentals here at a two night minimum so we stayed two nights. We're very glad we did--we could have stayed longer and still not run out of things to do. This rental is somewhat small, but perfect for a couple. The bathroom is amazing. It was nice to lie in bed and look out at the beautiful view. The outdoor kitchen was different, but nice. You definitely want to bring food, and cooking outside is a nice change from cooking inside--and the weather is so nice that you don't mind. One of our favorite experiences in Hawaii was going to a waterfall off the beaten path which we had all to ourselves---one of the benefits of renting from a local and knowing these things. This is very near the Sacred pools, Maui stables, and definitely worth the stay.

Prunedale, CaliforniaBeautiful and Peaceful, with a real Hawaiian atmosphere
Left on 11/08/2012 for a stay in October 2012
This is our third time to stay at ala-Aina Ocean Vista. this year we stayed for three nights. The property is beautiful and well kept. It is past Hana, just a short distance from the seven sacred pools (Oheo Gulch) and the bamboo forest. We love all the fresh fruit from the property and the outdoor kitchen. I especially enjoy the rock bathtub outside. The unit is very nice with good ventilation and awesome views. You can see the ocean on both sides. The indoor shower is huge and airy if feels great to shower with the tropical breeze blowing through. The owners, Samadhi and Mercury are extremely accommodating and pleasant. I am a photographer so being close to the seven pools and the other amazing places give me the ability to get to the spots early at sunrise and also catch some incredible sunsets. This is a great find, we always look forward to our stay there. - Jim & Connie

When your trip is over
and present turns to past
You'll be left with memories

So as you sit and ponder
Just where you want to stay
Choose ala aina Ocean Vista
and you won't regret this day...
Peace,Quiet,Privacy,Comfort,Very close to Pipiwai trail(we left the house at 7:00 and hiked the trail alone, allowing for a naturist Hawaiin waterfall shower priceless(but not recommended by me(luckily nothing but water came down while I was under the fall)Large, comfortable bed at window sill level, great to close eyes to and a pleasure to open them to. Coffee,Bread,Eggs,Fruit,Avocados,Fridge,Stove,Full kitchen supplies,Beach chairs,Beach towels,Snorkel gear. The memories of the stars from the outdoor tub return every bath I take by just closing my eyes. The openess and privacy of the porch with it's ocean views is very romantic for outdoorsy people. It's almost like staying at your sisters house when she's not there, very comfortable. -

Amazing bed and breakfast! Lots to do in the Hana area so make sure you stay for a night or two! A lot of people do the Road to Hana and back to Lahaina in one day... however, to get the most of it, you need to stay in Hana for 2 or even 3 nights! A small town but lots of things to do! We stayed for 2 nights but definitely could have stayed for 3. This bed and breakfast is the perfect location for relaxation and solitude if that's what you are looking for. Also, lots of fresh fruit growing on the property which is yours for the taking! Want an avocado for breakfast? Well, just go pick it off the tree! Amazing!

Excellent customer service, splendid directions with suggested points along the way. The property was wonderful and in a great location for all of the local attractions. An excellent base to experience Hana and the "real" Hawaii.
Many extra touches---fresh baked bread, flowers in the room, herb garden at our disposal, a list of off-the-beaten-path areas to explore. As pictured and then some. Pictures cannot do justice to this location. Even a rainbow on our first day! Excellent! -

We absolutely loved ala'aina Ocean Vista. This property was beautiful in the photos we saw on line, but it was stunning when we saw it in person. We like to eat at restaurants, but after we saw the views from our deck, we cooked at our outdoor kitchen as much as possible. We thought it would be a little restricting having only a stovetop, but we made tacos and spaghetti, and we enjoyed salads with fresh avocado from the tree on the property. We also enjoyed trying varieties of fresh fruit that were waiting for us there in the basket. We found this the perfect retreat after enjoying days sight-seeing in Hana. The drive is about 2 1/2 - 3 hours from the airport, but we enjoyed every minute that the views on the drive afforded us. With windows wide open, the gentle breezes that drifted through the cottage all day and night provided the perfect climate control. Cool evenings and breezy days made the cottage more than comfortable. Sam directed us to some quiet places where we could swim in waterfall pools and enjoy privacy. We only saw the owners when we sought them out, and we were given utter privacy 24/7. We were able to enjoy the outdoor shower and bath - a totally unique experience to this B&B;, and it was quite possibly the best part of our trip. It is obvious that great care was taken to manicure the gardens and grounds, and that only made the place more of a blessed experience. This is not just the dwelling of the owner - her lovely heart and soul is reflected in it. The fact that it is solar powered has been a source of some complaints, but we didn't find it confining in the least. It's paradise - we prefered the moonlight for strolls and romantic encounters, but there is plenty of solar-powered light if desired. We stayed 4 nights at ala'Aina, and wish we'd spent more. We loved that side of Maui so much. It was a rainforest, beach, and prairie - 3 gorgeous ecosystems all rolled into one.

This was one of the most unique and wonderful places that we've ever stayed. The room was very comfortable and just right for 2 people, with a private entrance and tastefully decorated with local tropical flowers. The bathroom was gorgeous with a large shower area, and of course, there is the outdoor tub for a bath under the stars if you choose. There is a deck out back with a table and two chairs, and a small outdoor kitchen area for cooking. There are a couple of nearby restaurants in Hana, if you don't mind the winding drive. The owner recommends stopping at the local grocery store before arriving, and this is good advice. Local tropical fruits are provided by the owner, and the apple bananas are especially delicious. The property itself is beautiful and tranquil, and we were treated to a rainbow one morning after a light shower. You're free to walk around the grounds, which have many different types of tropical trees and flowers. It was the perfect place to refresh and renew the spirit, on the quiet side of the island.

Left on 02/16/2012 for a stay in August 2004
The best part of the stay was how little we saw anyone-it was just the two of us. The most difficult was to arrange dinner--you're not going anywhere so make sure you bring along some simple foods to eat. Loved the geckos on the window while we were watching a movie in bed. Outdoor tub cannot be described--taking a bath in such a secluded, lush place was indescribable. Can't wait to go back some day. It's been too long...

Samadhi greeted us upon arrival and introduced us to her incredibly beautiful property. If you're looking for serenity, quiet, spectacular beauty, and friendliness this is the place for you. We spent only two days. I wish we had booked more days there as my wife and I both felt like staying longer. Next time we'll book a week. I, who rarely sleep even 6 or 7 hours per night slept 10 hours one night and I had to be awakened by my wife. We walked to a nearby pasture to feed a horse carrots. We picked our fruit from the trees for our breakfast. We walked the road to Lindberg's grave which is down a dirt road, through a dirt driveway to a tiny chapel and cemetary. The walk was wonderful! We also hit red sand beach for a very peaceful day. We purchased a piece of art from Coast gallery at the Hana Ranch Hotel. The whole stay was just so restful! My wife and I are dying to go back and we highly recommend Samadhi Butterfly's restful, soulful, wonderful property to anyone looking for peace and quiet.

Left on 12/01/2011 for a stay in November 2011
My boyfriend and I recently made our second visit to Maui. We were very exicited as we had decided to spend our first three nights in Hana, Kipahulu to be more exact. On our first visit we had visited the Hana area several times however the drive was very long and slow going, as a result we did not get to do all the things we had wanted. This time we booked three nights at the 'Ala'aina Ocean Vista Bed and Breakfast in Kipahulu, not far outside of Hana. Wow! This place was so much more then I expected. The views were spectacular, the grounds were magnificent, the room was like coming home and the back porch was the bow this beautiful package was wrapped it.If you are looking for that special place to unwind and relax, this is it. Mercury and Sam, who run the place are the nicest people, although you would never know they were around unless you went looking for them. I never thought my first visit to Maui could have been topped but I was wrong, this place sets the bar pretty high for next time.

My husband and I loved the view, the uniqeness, and the feeling of living outdoors as the room has full windows on two sides that we left open and uncovered the entire time, even during rain showers. The outdoor kitchen and eating table were also comfortable during the showers that came and went. The star-studded night sky was just amazing to view while sitting and soaking in the outdoor bathtub, as was the ocean view and gardens during the daytime!! Wish we had had more time to linger...

Sam and Mercury are great hosts, their aloha is palpable in the whole house and property,
there is an atmosphere of loving kindness, that made us feel very welcome and at peace...
Being in this natural environment, far away from business, noise, so called tourist-attractions,
was exactly what we were looking for.
We hope to get the room again when we visit Maui the next time.
