This place had it all!
Hana Kai 206 was tops! It was cozy and clean, equipped with everything you would need, from making a dinner in to spending a day at the beach. We loved the shower and the sleep number bed, but spent a majority of our time on the lanai, gazing at the ocean! We were there for the 4th of July, and the sunrise provided spectacular morning fireworks for our viewing pleasure. We were a bit worried that there was no AC, but even though the temps were relatively high (in the mid- to upper-80's), we were very comfortable thanks to the many fans throughout and the louvered front door, which provided a really nice breeze through to the lanai. Hana is a lovely, peaceful, rejuvenating area and our 3 days there were awesome!

The view from the Lanai is beautiful
This is more of a studio than a 1 bedroom. There is a loft on the 2nd floor with a comfortable King size bed but no closet.
Hawaiian photos are displayed throughout the unit & we were greeted with a beautiful flower arrangement. Small touches gave this condo local color & flavor.
The kitchen had everything needed for cooking.. There are very few Restaurants in Hana so this was important to us
The view from the Lanai was beautiful; The black sand beach was right below us & the only obstruction was a flat green roof. This did not obscure the pleasure of being beachfront.
My biggest disappointment was the lack of light in the Condo. No windows, only the slider to the Lanai. Overall, the unit was in a convenient location & practically on the beach

Beautiful, luxurious features - they thought of everything!
We arrived late in the afternoon after a long drive from Lahaina. Opened the door to a beautifully-kept property. Shayla and Mark (the owners) have thought of everything. Not knowing what time we would arrive or what we would have access to in Hana, we brought things to make dinner and found a kitchen that was well-equipped to handle all of our needs, and a lovely patio to dine on (complete with dining table and a cush double papasan chair for relaxing and hearing the waves crash on the beach). The bed is a king-sized SleepNumber, fantastically comfortable, linens were very luxurious. The shower head in the bathroom - maybe the best I've ever used!
We delighted in every little touch, including the DVD player and library, several tour books, a dishwasher (apparently the only one in the complex), a closet full of beach gear. The thatching on the ceiling was a nice touch and good noise insulator. The photos were gorgeous as well. Overall, our favorite place that we stayed during our vacation (out of 5 places), a nice, quiet break from an otherwise busy vacation!

Hana Kai 206 is awesome!
There is a reason for the phrase "Heavenly Hana." You will feel it (rather then just hear the words) throughout your whole being after a visit. In past years we had driven for the day to Hana, but this was our fist stay-over (for 2 nights - should have done 3) Hana is like being on a whole different (and remote) island. The road is windy and long, but both the journey and the destination are worth every mile! The one bedroom condo at Hana Kai is very comfortable and there is nothing lacking.
Hana Kai 206 was very clean, decorated very tastefully with a mix of Old Hawaii and contemporary decor. The bedroom is in the loft with a Sleep Number king size bed that is very comfy (we have one at home). We enjoyed the cool island breezes and circulated them inside the condo with the two fans in the bedroom, and floor fan and ceiling fan downstairs (there is no air conditioning - but Hawaii's tradewinds usually accommodate without having to pay extra for the electricity). Our May weather was perfect, so we have no complaints!
If we were at the condo and not cooking or BBQing downstairs (steps from the beach), we were enjoying the lanai and the awesome black sand beach panorama below. There was only one small building (6 condos??) in front of us, but it did not obstruct anything of note. We just had to walk down the stairs and in 3 minutes we were on the beach (unless we lingered by the Koi pond).
We did not swim as there were red-flag warnings up, but this did not take away from our stay. We visited the art gallery at the hotel, walked down to the public park beach, and were grateful for quiet relaxation. We used the free wi-fi at the condo (we had no cell phone service - a plus for us). There is a land-line phone in the condo - we gave essential persons the phone number in case they had to reach us.
FYI: Before we left Kahalui we rented our snorkel gear, got our groceries including 2 styrofoam ice chests and ice, and picked up 2 nice bottles of wine at the awesome liquor/wine store on Dairy Ave (fantastic wine selection). In Hana there is a general store and a couple of places to pick up essentials, but we did not want to be without something so felt more comfortable getting supplies before the drive to Hana. We didn't need the snorkel gear, the waters were too rough, but who knew! Plus we are spending 2 weeks in Kihei so we still needed the gear.
Places to eat: We mostly fixed food at the condo, but unless you are bound and determined to eat at a restaurant, check out Troy's mixed plate (only on Thursdays - we found him at Koki Beach north of Hana (look for his signs), and the Chow Wagon on Hana Highway is between Hana town & Koki beach (minutes from Hana Kai). Both places serve very tasty Hawaiian plate dishes. We also bought locally grown food as much as possible. The owners have a very comprehensive binder in the condo with good advice and options for activities.
In closing: Hana Kai 206 was very Hawaiian in the best sense, awesome, romantic, comfortable, and accommodating. We loved it and plan to return there.

Gorgeous condo with views!!
My husband and I stayed here for 2 days. We didn't want to rush our journey to Hana.
The condo is gorgeously decorated inside and the view is spectacular. From the moment you step in, it's obvious that there is pride of ownership. Lots of attention to detail.
There is a lovely and spacious Lanai where you can enjoy your coffee, cocktails and meals. It is also just steps to the black sand beach.
We highly recommend staying here.

This place is a gem!
Amazing views. Great digs. They've thought of everything!
Would recommend you bring groceries from elsewhere into Hana because it is slim pickin's in Hana if you plan to dine in.
Great way to start the trip
We landed in Maui and drove to Hana the following day to enjoy the natural side of the island. That set the stage for a relaxing enjoyable week.
This townhouse condo had a nice view of the ocean bay and comfortable quarters.
We were a short drive to the 2 restaurants nearby and the food market. One day we walked 2 miles up to the waterfall in the national park, 2 miles down as well. And the great thing was after we took the winding road to Hana from Paia we discovered the way back in a front wheel drive VW Passat by driving the road on the southern side back to Wailea. No need for 4 wheel drive, very scenic , just drive slowly.
Comfort in Paradise
From the moment I made contact with the owner, to the day we entered the door to Hana Kai 206, I knew that our stay would be wonderful. Decorated in a beautiful Hawaiian theme with island pictures everywhere you look. Gorgeous Hawaiian flowers in a lovely vase sit waiting on the counter for all guest to enjoy. Everything for a night stay to a longer visit including towels, beach chairs, personnel items you may have forgotten. Kitchen supplies, delicious coffee to drink while relaxing with the great view from the balcony. They even have an umbrella you might find handy on those rainy days. We look forward to another visit some day.
A happy couple from S.S.F. Ca
Better than expected and what a great location...overlooking the top of a gorgeous Black Sand Beach. Great amenities, clean and very cozy! Love the Lanai! Be sure to go the the Travassa Lounge to see Leokane sing beloved Hawaiian songs!! So glad we stayed in this unit with it's great views. This is a great place to stay after a lovely, long and active drive up the road to Hana. A nice rest before the next days journey to Haneakula National Forest. Hana is a wonderful town. Wish I could've stayed a little longer.

Serene and comfortable
This condo is wonderful. Nicely decorated and filled with all kinds of welcome amenities. The view of the bay from the balcony is superb. We spent a lot of time out there. I would go again and recommend it to friends. We suggest ithat renters move the shutters all the way to the right to open up the light. The state and national parks that are nearby are both very worth visiting. The black sand beach near the condo is a little difficult to walk on, rocky and a bit steep, but doable and sweet at sunset. We enjoyed our stay at 206 immensely.
What a great stay!!!Thanks so much we truly enjoyed our stay. Thanks for all the extras really made it amazing. The bed was the best so far at any condo we have ever stayed in...I loved all the amazing art work and will tell everyone that your condo is where to stay while in Hana...Cheers from Cam and Erinn Canada

An enchanting stay at Hana, on Maui
In January 2014, we were fortunate to stay overnight at Hana Kai 206, and thus give a full day to an unforgettable drive on the Road from Kihei, where we were spending a week in a condo, to Hana, and return on the second day following the road around the island. Heartily recommend! The 206 unit is sheer delight, and we enjoyed every moment of our short stay. The place is comfortable, well and beautifully appointed, and makes you feel instantly at home. The owners' creativity shines through. The only relative difficulty we experienced at Hana was in getting a dinner to eat "at home" on a Friday evening at about 7 - 7:30 PM. Several suggestions fizzled and the one available solution we found was in a Travaasa Resort's delicious, very pricey takeout. The apple in paradise. Anyway, you will not regret staying in Hana Kai 206.

Experience the serene beauty of Hana, from extremely comfortable
Wonderful condo, with lots of extras such as books, dvds, music, a hair dryer and a coffee pot. Lovely to sit on the lanai with your first cup of the day and gaze at beautiful Hana Bay. We stayed over to experience the bamboo walk and pools the following day, and spread the time spent driving out.
All communications and the payment process were handled smoothly, and Shayla provided excellent directions to the condo and we were made to feel welcome guests.
Don't hesitate to book here if you are considering a visit to this area.
Words do not describe how beautiful this condo is!! The attention to detail is amazing. From the fresh coffee beans waiting for you, the ultra comfortable papasan chair for 2 overlooking the ocean, the beautiful artwork in the home, plenty of plush towels, beach gear, full gourmet kitchen...I could go on and on. This is a perfect romantic home where every detail has been thought of. We are already planning a trip to come back and experience the beautiful land of Hana and can't wait to stay here again. Many thanks Shayla!! Your home is gorgeous.
Hana Kai 206 is magical!
The beauty of Hana is at your doorstep and in 206. A black sand beach is steps away. The view from the lanai refreshes the soul. The condo is superb and modern, with all the amenities, including snorkel gear and boogie boards. And walking distance to downtown and Hana Beach Park. The artwork in the hale is exquisite. Truly an experience to be cherished.
Mahalo Shayla and Mark!
Love the condo. It's beautifully decorated and the location can't be beat. It was just perfect for our stay in Hana.
Myrtle Beach, SC
Relaxing, well kept, and the best ocean view in Hana!
If you are looking for relaxation in a beautiful location, look no further. For the active, there is a beautiful hike through the rain forest every mile or two. Only a few beaches, but wow what a view.
Orange County, CA
Hana is a sleepy little town. Go there to enjoy the beautiful rain forest, a little bit of history, and a whole lot of Hawaiian hospitality.
The condo was spotless. Everything is well organized, nicely furnished and there are even a few books about Maui and the history of the Hawaiian Islands. Everything you could possibly need is in this place.
We spent hours on the lanai watching and listening to the ocean and drinking wine.
The only downside is that it is a loft, so be careful when you have to go to the bathroom in the morning if you are sleepy.
We'll stay here again for sure.

Your attention to detail and amenities was amazing!

Our stay in Mark and Shayla's condo was wonderful. We were so happy to have such a nice place to stay after our long drive to Hana. The condo is immaculately clean and beautifully decorated. We loved seeing their huge pictures. The condo is about 1/2 hour away from the Seven Sacred Pools. We got up early and made it to the park before the crowds. When we got to the pools we were the only ones there. We definitely recommend spending a few nights in Hana, you can't see it all in one day. This condo is a perfect home base and has everything you need and more for a beautiful stay.

Trip to paradise
My husband and I spent out first anniversary weekend at Hana Kai Condo 206 last week. We had already fallen in love with Hana years ago, and chose to marry there in 2012. We usually stay at the hotel which is pretty expensive, so we decided to give the condo a try and spend our savings on other things and
It was one of the smartest things we've ever done! The condo is lovely with tasteful decor and romantic ocean views. And the amenities are unbelievable! The owners go overboard to insure that you stay is perfect in every way.
Just a beautiful, beautiful weekend. Thank you Mark and Shayla!

What a wonderful place to stay! The first two nights of our very first Hawaiian vacation were spent at Hana Kai 206, and we could not have been more pleased with our choice. This place is a little romantic oasis in the middle of the beautiful paradise that is Hana. We picked up fresh groceries at the nearby Hana Ranch Store, so that we could enjoy home-cooked breakfast each morning and local microbrews each evening out on the expansive lanai. The condo itself is beautiful and welcoming, and it's obvious that Shayla & Mark (the owners) have taken great care to ensure that every guest feels right at home from the moment you walk in the door. Shayla is the ultimate hostess - every amenity and supply we could have possibly needed was anticipated and provided for, including frosty mugs ready to go in the freezer for the aforementioned microbrews at sunset. We spent as much time as possible on the lanai, taking full advantage of the perfect cafe table for two in the mornings and the unbelievably cozy loveseat in the evenings from where we overlooked gorgeous Hana Bay. Indoors, we enjoyed peaceful nights on the Sleep Number king-size bed, awesome showers in the fabulously remodeled bathroom, and cooking for two in the fully stocked kitchen while gazing upon the beautiful vistas outside. The walls are lined with the stunning local photography of the owners, which highlights the natural beauty of Hawaii and adds to the romantic ambiance of the condo. We fell in love with their photographs and were thrilled that we got to take home two prints as mementos of our stay. We were already conspiring about a return visit before our stay was over, and we're very much looking forward to coming back to this little slice of paradise. We have already recommended Hana Kai 206 to friends and will continue to do so for anyone planning a trip to Maui in the future. Big mahalo to Shayla & Mark for a wonderfully unforgettable experience in Hana!

A slice of paradise
Aloha, I want to thank you for the use of your lovely condo. We were very impressed with not only the location but the "extras". (Especially the
photography - I am a budding photographer - and loved your website! )
The condo is well equipped - as good as a personal cottage would be - even binoculars, all cooking utensils imaginable, a cozy love seat on the lanai etc.
Not only that, we were blessed with a gorgeous day for our full day there and saw all the sites we stayed there for,
and had time to really appreciate the beauty of the north side of the island.
I will be sure to recommend your unit to family and friends fortunate enough to be going to Maui.

We had a great time in Hana largely because of our stay at Hana
Hana Kai 206 has it all fantastic view and condo filled with everything we needed even spices. We liked location we could walk to restaurants and beaches make sure to see red sand beach well worth the short walk even with the short cliff part.

My husband and I enjoyed 3 wonderful nights at the Kana Kai 206 in Hana Maui. The condo is beautiful and comfortable and in a perfect location. You can sit on the lanai and watch the water or walk down to the beach. Everything you need is there including chairs, boogie boards, coolers. I hope to stay here again very soon. Mahalo!
Beautiful spot - away from the world
Start your vacation here to destress! We've made several day trips to Hana but hadn't slowed down to really explore - it was worth it. We arrived mid-week and experienced no traffic on the drive from Kahalui. For the first day we lived on that balcony - no tv, no cell - and let the sound of the waves bring us into vacation mode. This condo was a great landing spot for the area - and we used the available guide books to their full advantage - exploring many of the local beaches, hikes, farm stands...we walked a lot! Make sure to get up and out early to enjoy the sunrise. We could go again and stay longer. Hana is a spot to entertain yourself with the beauty of Hawaii - and much less so for organized activities...a much different experience than the west side.
The condo is thoughtfully set-up to provide guests with many creature comforts. It's small/cozy and so much more enjoyable than a hotel room. This is not a luxury resort - it's a quaint guest home. From the balcony, you can see to the bay/ocean and part of the rocky shoreline (for white sand, take a short drive/walk to one of the other many local beaches). There is a building in front blocking part of the water view - we took this into consideration with the nightly rate. But, the complex was quiet, the balcony was fairly private and again there was the sound of water...
The massive fresh flower arrangement and the owner's professional photographic prints were highlights. We came across their work the following week at the Lahaina Printsellers gallery - it was instantly recognizable.
Only potential issue...stairs to the loft are steep - definitely not for anyone with issues navigating stairs.
No question - we would stay again.
Gig Harbor, WA
Perfect location for a stay in Hana. The condo is closely located to all of the best beaches in the area and is in walking distance to shops and restaurants in town. Great place to stay for a couple of days and relax after the drive it takes to get to Hana!

The manager and cleaning staff were extremely accommodating. Sitting on the deck looking out at Hana Bay was memorable. The kitchen was efficient, the bamboo interior decorating was appreciated even more after a hike through bamboo forest to Waimoku Falls-several good tour guides provided. The stairs to sleeping loft were a bit steep but the bed was wonderful. Can't imagine not staying overnight in Hana rather than making it a day trip--so much to experience, so different and authentically old Hawaii, compared to the rest of Maui--"heavenly."

Loved the condo, very well appointed and super organized! We had everything we needed including an abundance of silence, broken only by the waves on the shore. We had done the drive to Hana before, but never stayed in the area. It was a wonderful base from which to explore a side of Maui that I had never seen, the raw beauty of Hana is breathtaking, and we enjoyed the awesome vistas and beaches. We started our holiday here, and spent the last part on the West and South Maui beaches. We would recommend this condo to my family and friends, and would stay here again ourselves! Also, my husband misplaced his wedding ring, and we left a note asking for contact if it was found. Not only did the property manager find it, he actually met us in Kahului on the day of our flight home to hand it personally to us!

We stayed two nights in January as a base for exploring east and south Maui beforing heading west. If you are going to drive the Hana Highway and have the time, highly recommend staying in Hana for a couple of nights. This condo was perfect for us (couple). Fantastic views of the bay and rocky ocean coast from the deck, where I spent a couple of hours both afternoons enjoying a book and a bottle of wine, listening to the ocean. Great hiking in several parks nearby. Hana is short on restaurants, but that is why you stay in the condo! Very clean, organized, views, central location, highly recommended.
romantic & cozy getaway
hana is an amazing and beautiful place. hana kai 206 was perfect for our honeymoon. the lanai is the best part, but the rest of the condo is very comfy and clean. the owner's took so much time and care over every detail, you really feel like you are in a home away from home. we were very happy there. the location is easy to find and close to everything in hana. we loved cooking dinner for ourselves and eating on the balcony, then sitting on the big comfy papasan chair watching the moon hang over the water...walking the black beach every morning, exploring the town, and just being there. we loved the pipiwai trail hike through a bamboo forest to a waterfall- if you go be sure to wear hiking shoes!
if you are lucky enough to ever be in hana, this is a wonderful place to stay. thank you to shayla and mark for providing such a lovely hana home!
Great little condo. Amazing, amazing view.
My husband and I stayed at the Hana Kai 206 for two nights from 12/26 - 12/28. Hands down our favorite thing about the room was the stunning ocean view from the lanai. When we were in our room and not sleeping we spent about 90% of our time hanging together on the love seat on the lanai watching the water. In the evenings we were lucky to have a close to full moon that shone on the water in front of us making it even more lovely.
We also really appreciated having the full kitchen which was well stocked with both utensils as well as basic pantry items. While you can find lunch places in Hana there's not much in the way of dinner but we were very happy to just fix dinner ourselves and (again) enjoy the view from the lanai while we ate. We also availed ourselves of the BBQ in the common area and my husband made impressed and happy noises with the grill.
The only things I would caution about are a) there are stairs leading up to the loft bedroom. If you have trouble with stairs you'll want to look elsewhere and b) you can hear your neighbors fairly well. While our neighbors in the rooms around us were courteous there was one early bird who started banging around in the kitchen at about 6 am both mornings we were there causing some grogginess on our parts (*husband reading this review before I post says the noise didn't bother him so apparently it was just me!*).
In closing we would definitely stay here again! Great location, well maintained and clean condo, amazing views, and nice to have a kitchen.
p.s. One more thing, we really appreciated the welcoming binder that our hosts had put together for us. Very informational and useful. They also had several guidebooks available which came in handy.
Enjoyed a fantastic view from the lanai
The follow up from Shayla was fantastic. We had all the information we needed.
The condo was cozy and it had everything one would need for a few days stay. The highlight was the lanai where we spent most of our time, looked out on the ocean, and had all of our meals.
First class condo in the best location in Hana, on a black sand beach!
Don't hesitate to rent this condo.
Owners responded to my emails immediately.
Has everything but a t.v. - which you don't need :)
A very nice touch was a beautiful, stunning extra large tropical flower arrangement upon entrance, also with welcome gifts.
Would recommend to family and friends, and hope to return someday too.
After a six hour drive along Hana Highway (we took our time) it was nice to arrive at Hana Kai 206. The Condo was comfortable with a large balcony and wonderful views. The folder with local information was a great help and the Wifi was a great surprise, and enabled us easy contact with home. Having no TV wasn't an issue. We watched some Dvds and read. Hana is very small with limited choices for eating out. I recommend if you drive the Road to Hana, stay, and visit the Kipahulu District and walk the Pipiwai Trail.
Great place to stay in paradise
This location was perfect, right on Hana bay. The condo was set back from the water a little bit, but the view was still spectacular. We spent a lot of time hanging out of the beautiful lanai, watching and listening to the ocean. Mark & Shayla had a very comfortable place, with lots of amenities and conveniences (including local coffee in the grinder and snorkeling gear/boogie boards for your use!)
The condo has an awesome bamboo loft with king size sleep-number bed. They have a ton of fans, so the place stays very comfortable and breezy. The price was very reasonable for the location and quality of the condo. It is perfect for a couple who just want to get away. I actually proposed to my girlfriend during our stay at Hana Kai, at sunrise at Hamoa beach, which was just a short drive away. If you are going to Maui, you must go to Hana and spend the night, don't just do the whirlwind day trip. Hana is paradise - and Hana Kai 206 is a pretty sweet place to stay while you are there.
Perfect stay in paradise.
Shayla and Mark thought of everything you might need and more. Short walk to black beach on Hana Bay, close to stores and attractions, and their guide to the area has all the local eateries. We hope to have the opportunity to stay here again. Thanks.
Great View, Conveniently Located, Quiet
Good studio rental located just off the beach. Easy walk to Hana Bay or restaurants. On the downside: after a hot day, it's very warm in the loft bed- little air circulation even tho there are both ceiling and table fans. The mattress also kept deflating on the left side. Otherwise, the kitchen is well stocked, pantry is stocked with the basics (nice plus), and there are plenty of toys (snorkel, fins, boogie boards, chairs) so no need to bring your own. Read more

I am so sorry you had trouble with the bed! We have not had any complaints, so I am sorry you waited for a review to let us know there was an issue. We would have loved to send over our excellent staff to come by and fix it for you... and the next guests.
Yes, we have had very hot weather lately, and unfortunately, there is no accommodation in Hana with air conditioning.
We thank you for choosing to stay with us!

Hana kai 206
206 is a charming unti tucked away right next to the ocean. it is fully equipped with all local reccomendations for dining, beaches, local hot spots, and more..
I will be sure to stay here whenever i visit Maui.

This condo exceeded our expectations. As did Hana. If you are just toying with the idea of staying in Hana - definitely do it!! And stay in this condo!! Shayla and Mark do an outstanding job keeping the place stocked with anything you might need (and it's all labeled and easy to find). They have included beach towels, snorkel equipment. And have any kitchen supply you might ever need, which you should use because cooking and staying in is the way to go in Hana. The place is kept immaculately clean and is so comfortable and beautiful. The pictures actually don't do it justice. The absolutely best thing about it is the lanai, which is nice-sized and has great furniture for watching the ocean :) Which you really can view, no partial view, you get a real one, complete with crashing wave sounds. Hana is so peaceful, welcoming and unique. The beaches are incredible and have great swimming and bodysurfing. There is a ton to do if you're into beaches, waterfalls and hiking adventures. Not much to do if you like restaurants and city-life. Really cannot stress enough the lack of food options. You will get great shave ice and fruit but bring any other kind of food with you. The condo usually has lots of condiments and spices, oil etc to cook with, which was a huge convenience! Great stay!!!

Staying in Hana is a «privilege» especially if you stay at Hana Kai with the oceanview. Staying in Hana gave us more time to visit the area and relax. However, if you plan to cook, bring your own food before hitting the road to Hana. Hana Kai 206 is very peaceful condo with a wonderful bed, confortable couches (even one on the balcony), is well equipped and decorated with taste. We took all our meals on the balcony enjoying the view.
Exceptionally Clean and Updated
We weren't sure what to expect from the condo after staying several days in hotels. We were wonderfully surprised to see how clean everything was! The kitchen was beautiful and well stocked with pots, pans, and condiments. We were also pleased to find the bathroom supplied with shampoo, soap, conditioner, etc. Although we didn't get to use the beach equiptment, we were pleased to find them clean and in good condition.
We found the binder filled with personal tips from the owners very informative, and it guided us to our favorite activity of our entire trip: the Bamboo hike to the waterfall. It was amazing! And then, to come home afterward and recognize the images in the canvas-pictures on the walls, it was just great! We would highly recommend Hana Kai 206, and would love to stay there again the next time we make it to Maui! Read more

awake to waves and fall asleep to waves
Awake to waves is the best way to describe Hana Kai 206! The sound of the ocean retreating over the black river stones is so soothing. What a perfect place to be lulled to sleep after a day of adventure. We could travel lite thanks to the guide books and local info. provided by Shayla. The beautiful flowers made us feel the aloha the second we walked in. Thank you for the boogie boards. It was so nice to have a pantry full of all the things needed to cook gourmet meals and enjoy them on the lanai. It felt like staying at a friend's home. Thank you so much for a magical Maui vacation. We would love to book your other condo next trip with a small excursion back to Hana Kai 206. Read more

Aloha Jon and Kristen-
We are so glad you enjoyed your romantic getaway and felt like you were staying with friends! Mark and I lived in Hana for 9 months remodeling it, so we learned the 'ways' of Hana that inspired so many 'little things' that make the place even more special, like the 'share pantry'. With both general stores closing by 7 and 7:30, you learn fast that a little food in the cupboard is a wonderful thing!!!
We would love to have you back and also in our fantastic Maui Kai 301, a spectacular oceanfront condo where you are actually hovering over the waves! This was our first condo, and we designed our sweet Hana Kai 206 after it. You will feel right at home there too!
Mahalo nui loa for choosing to stay with us!

Hana Kai 206 was relaxing, comfortable and safe.
We found this condo so well equipped with everything we needed and much more. On our 2nd day we got sunburned & found that there was some refreshing after sunburn gel which was so great. The next day we bought suncreen form the local store. We had bought groceries for the week but forgot mustard for the sandwiches...there were 4 kinds of mustard in the fridge. We enjoyed breakfast on the lani every morning, which was so beautiful to watch & hear the waves listen to the birds singing. The best part was to go to sleep with the lani screen closed but listening to waves crash & lull us to sleep.
Love the balcony with view!
My boyfriend and I decided to take out dinner with good drinks and have our dinner with view in the balcony for 2 consecutive nights.
I was the best dinner we had on our trip !
Beautiful, comfortable, clean and good size condo.
Definitely will recommend this place to our friends and family.
Hana at its best
We loved this condo! Everything about it was perfect, from the design, to the location, to the place having everything you need...oh and the amazing sound and view of Hana bay, it was perfect. Value is great considering the price of the other units in the building...wish we would have stayed longer!
We stayed here 1 night on our Hana road trip and just loved it. Very comfortable beds, great ocean view/garden. We bar-b-q'd our dinner and had a great time sitting on the lani watching the wind blow and sunset. We would of stayed longer but our plans were to drive the loop.

It was a very restful and healing 3 days.
My husband and I couldn't believe our good luck to have stayed in your beautiful Hana home. It was clean and cozy with well stocked cupboards. We felt very well cared for. The view off the lanai was perfect for watching the sun rise, and eating our meals. The sound of the surf and gentle rain soothed us and your beautiful photographs on the walls reminded us of why Hana is so special. It was a very restful and healing 3 days. We would very much like to come back and stay longer.

Overall great experience here
There is everything you need in this place! It is comfortable and quiet and has a beautiful view. There was an amazing fresh bouquet of tropical flowers for us as well. They even have a Brita water filter! Like I said they have everything you need.
The only suggestion I could make is that there be a brighter light in the room with the shower.
Great views from this unit.
Great stop over after the road to Hana drive. Relaxed on the linai with a bottle of wine and watched the waves come in. Great views but a bit pricey.
Instructions emailed before the trip for accessing the unit were spot on. No problems getting to/in or finding the place. Parking was adequate.
Could use brighter lighting to be able to read in the living room. We understand power is expensive in hi. Dimmers are on all lights but we never needed to turn the lighting down and wished it would go higher.
We read the other reviews before taking this unit. There was mention of a lot of rules. I actually got a chuck about all the labels on things. Seems like the owners just want to keep the unit in order for the next guests. We were not put off by the rules. Of coarse we were in the military in our younger life, understand the requirement and can take it.

Heaven on Earth aka Hana!!!
Heavenly Hana is magical, especially when you can stay over night in the comfort and convenience of Unit #206 at Hana Kai!!! The condo was clean and well equipped with everything from beach supplies to cooking and entertainment items. We especially enjoyed the large Papasan chair on the Lanai for our relaxing evenings listening to the waves under a moonlit sky and beautiful view! It really doesn't get much better than this. The upstairs king sleep number bed is comfortable and the room stayed nice and cool. You could actually hear the waves from the bedroom!!! When it was time to hit the trails and the beach, we had all we needed! The refrigerator has an ice maker. There is even the famous "Maui Revealed” guide book for those who need a little assistance finding some great places to go! If you are just visiting our island, be sure to take the hike to the Bamboo Forest! The condo has nice touches such as granite countertops and tile flooring, but it still had the feel of Hawaii with bamboo ceilings and beautiful art depicting Hawaiian landscape, flora, and some of our favorite animals seen here on Maui.
We were especially impressed with the amount of privacy we had here, it is obvious that Hana Kai was designed with this in mind. Shayla was very accommodating from her timely responses to her directions and tips for arrival. She even touched bases right before our arrival and after our departure. Though Shayla provides several contact options, we really had all we needed while we were there! Even free Wifi, which was easy to use!
We really needed to get away and this trip was exceptional and one of the most relaxing times we have had in a long time, thanks to the beauty of Hana and comfort of our accommodations. If you just need some time away from the hustle bustle here on Maui or you are here visiting our island, Hana Kai is absolutely wonderful and this Unit was awesome!
Wonderful vacation home in Hana
Fantastic job by the owners to imagine everything a guest might want and to then provide it with the rental. Loads of thoughtful touches from stereo system to binoculars to every kitchen implement imaginable plus, of course, all your beach gear.
Staying in Hana Kai 206 is absolutely the best way to unwind after driving the Hana Hwy and its a great base for exploring the northeast end of Maui.
Reservations through Vrbo were flawless and Shayla was very helpful with directions and usage instructions. There's even a great binder of local hints and suggestions in the condo once you arrive. They make it as easy as can be.
The complex is well kept and quiet in the evenings. We slept very comfortably in the king bed. Lack of aC was mitigated by numerous fans though we were sometimes a bit warm earlier in the evenings.
Definitely will return to Hana Kai 206 on our next visit to Hana.
This condo was simply stunning...the view of Hana Bay was breathtaking. You can hear the waves from the entire condo, even while laying in bed at night. It was very quiet and well maintained. The amenities in the kitchen made cooking convenient and easy. It was stocked with beach towels, chairs and a boogie board - which we used each day. The location was ideal for ease of getting to the 7 pools and exploring Hana. We would stay here again and again!
A piece of heaven
Unit #206 really is the perfect, romantic spot to stay in Hana. I felt like I'd walked into my own home after finishing a lovely remodel. Everything we needed was exactly where you'd expect to find it. Beautiful dishes, flatware, espresso maker, coffee, toaster (don't forget to get banana bread along the road to Hana), all spices, foil, plastic wrap - everything!!! It was also beautifully decorated with an adjustable bed that gave us the best night's sleep we've had in a long time. Of course, the soothing sound of waves and the soft breeze might have helped :-). The lanai is where we spent every free moment. The view is unbelievable and the water so close that you can hear the hissing on the rocks as the waves recede. There is even a cozy seat for two and a table with candles (ideal for romantic dinner). We plan on staying for multiple nights next time we come. Thanks to Shayla and Mark for sharing their awesome home with us!
Great retreat from life's hustle and bustle
We stayed at this condo 26-28 December and enjoyed our time in Heavenly Hana. We had driven thorugh Hana 10 years ago on a day trip and knew that we were missing a bunch of great things so we made sure and stayed two nights this time around. Hiking in the national park and enjoying the lush tropoical Hawaiian scenery were highlights of our vacation stay. The lanai at the condo is where we enjoyed our early mornings and evenings as we could see and hear the ocean waves. We feel refreshed and are now back home starting a new year off right with our family connected again. The owner's attention to detail to the little things like a beautiful fresh floral arrangment, spices, beach towels, and candles greatly enhanced our stay.

Lovely, quiet Hana
The Hana Kai condo is a great change from the big hotels on the west side. As expected, it was very clean and well appointed, with a nice kitchen and bathroom. No a/c, but we certainly didn't need it. We spent most of our time on the balcony overlooking the lovely black sand beach.
Be warned, dinner options in Hana are extremely limited, and the pickings are slim in the local stores. Buy your groceries before you drive to Hana. There are lots of lunch places, but night time is very quiet.
Gr8 place to stay
Gorgeous view, all amenities included, very clean and well cared for. Good job on the weather, too :)

Great stay at Hanakai 206
We had a great stay in Hana. Beautiful view, clean , fully equipped, perfect.
beautiful and relaxing
The condo has everything one would need. Fun and Sun equipment. books, cds, cards. The lanai overlooking the beautiful bay was the perfect spot. Loved eating out there for every meal. Kitchen was well equipped, we cooked most meals. I esp. appreciated the great reading lights on each side of the bed. Location was perfect. steps to the beach, and close to other beaches. Thank you for a wonderful week.

Beautiful location. Perfect accomodations!
This was such a well organized, well maintained condo. You can tell owners really care for & pay attention to nice details that made our stay comfortable, easy and enjoyable. So sad we only had 2 nights in such a beautiful location right on the beach. We'll be back !!!
This is the most beautiful condo in the most serene place on Maui. Everything was perfect. The flowers were beautiful. The lania was perfect. We had coffee in the morning while we watched the sun rise and relaxed on the super comfortable futon which was big enough for two! We will absolutely stay here when we come back!

We will be back!!
Our 4 night stay at Hana Kai was the best part of our 10 days on Maui. We loved the everything about it, from breakfast on the lani to playing Scrabble under the full moon. ( we haven't played Scrabble for 20 years).
We are already planning our next trip back.
Thanks Shayla for let us stay there and for making it so easy.

The condo location and lanai overlooking the ocean and black sand beach make this a wonderful choice in Hana. Lanai was a great place to watch the sunrise, eat meals and read. Greeted with beautiful flowers and the lanai table set for eating. Condo was in nice condition and had no problems with anything. Beach towels, mats, chairs, and coolers provided. Easy walk to beach with lots of exploring opportunities. Definitely recommend staying in Hana to see the surrounding sites and wind down from the drive. Limited grocery or dining options in Hana, so plan accordingly.

Perfect honeymooners' getaway
We cannot say enough good things about this gorgeous condo. Our favorite thing, hands-down, was the crashing sound of the waves. It isn't just 'awake to waves'... it's "awake, eat, see, and sleep to" the sound of those waves. They are incredible... we wish we could bottle that sound and take it home.
The condo is incredibly well-appointed. We appreciated the well stocked kitchen, the very helpful visitors guide, the welcome flowers and tote (what a nice thing to do for your guests).
When we return to Maui, we're spending a week in your condo. Three nights was not enough. Staying in Hana (three nights) was our favorite part of our 17 night honeymoon in Maui. Thank you for that!
Catherine and alexandre
This is a great unit, equipped with everything imaginable. We found it extremely comfortable and enjoyed our 2 nights there very much. It is not low cost, but that is Hana. Compared to Hana prices this unit is reasonably priced and an excellent deal. If you can reserve it, don't hesitate one second.
Perfect with Ocean Views for his 36th Birthday
I was super lucky to get this awesome condo last minute and for just one night for my boyfriend's birthday celebration. We decided to ride out to Hana last minute on our scooters and wanted an easy place to lay our heads for his birthday. The condo was renovated in extremely good taste and had excellent photographs/artwork. The view and location was killer. Thanks so much. Read more

Hana Kai Condo 206 was perfect for my husband and I. The ocean views were incredible and we enjoyed being able to surf right out front (even if it was small). Our favorite thing was to sit on the papasan chair on the lanai at night and listen to the waves and talk about life/dreams. We loved not having tv or cell service for that matter. It was a true way to unplug and reconnect. The bed was super comfortable and the fans were enough to keep you cool all night. Waking up to the sunrise over the ocean was a real treat (considering we live on the West Coast of Ca). The owners have decorated and upgraded the condo beautifully. Shayla's professional artwork photographs hanging on the walls were all of local Hana spots and it was fun discovering where they were taken as we visited these sacred places. Hana is the best place on Maui. Truly remote and free of tourists. Absolutely stunning! We will be back. Thank you!!! Read more

This place was beautiful, down to the smallest detail. I would recommend it to anyone and would definitely stay there again. The lanai is wonderful and overlooks a great beach. The condo itself was clean with the new and updated appliancesn and facilities.

Great Little Piece of Heavenly Hana
This was one of the best equipped rentals we've ever stayed in. Beautiful view from the patio and everything you need. Only small complaint was having to go downstairs to go to the bathroom in the night. Thank you for a very nice few days.
Relaxed in Hana
Perfect relaxing start to our Maui vacation...
This unit lived up to all the ratings and expectations stated in prior reviews - beautiful setting, quiet, and absolutely every detail taken care of by Shayla and Mark. Every extra you can imagine is alredy in the unit, from kitchen needs to beach gear, plus lots of books and a binder with helpful advice. One should definitely do the marketing in Kahului and then do all the cooking in the unit, since you have everything you need and eating out in Hana is not so enticing.
Laguna Beach, CA
The condo was so nice and has a great view of the bay and you can hear the waves. It was very nicely decorated and had all the amenities and many extras. The bed was so comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay. On our last morning, we saw the sunrise through the clouds. It was awesome!

Perfect place to stay in Hana
We loved our short time in Hana and will definitely be back. Hana Kai 206 had everything we needed. We enjoyed all our meals on the lanai and took the owner's advice on places to visit and get food, and we were never disappointed.
This condo was a perfect location in Hana. The grounds were well equipped and the private beach access was great. The condo itself was extremely comfortable. I loved the games that were there for our entertainment. Everything was clean and very welcoming. Staying at Hana Kai was far better than any hotel could ever be! Read more

Thank you so much for your feedback!
Mark and I just got a chance to spend a few days out there as well... isn't it magical! :) Even for us, just coming from the 'other side' of the island, we always find deep Peace and relaxation in Hana Kai 206...
We look forward to your return!
Shayla and Mark Middleton
My husband and I spent the first few nights of our honeymoon at Hana Kai 206. It was a perfect choice! (We wish we would have stayed longer.) The condo was beautiful and had an amazing view. We loved hearing the waves crash on the beach just feet away, eating meals on the lanai and taking in the fresh air. The condo had everything we needed for a comfortable home-like stay. It was the perfect location for seeing sights in the area, yet was secluded and romantic. We can't wait to go back!
This place had everything!!!
When you leave for vacation there is always a balance of trying to bring the least amount of things while preventing yourself from having to buy things like towels and ice chests. This place had everything - it was so convenient to load the ice chest up for the day and explore. The full kitchen with an ice maker was great. The views were great and the table on the lanai was very nice. We ate breakfast at the condo every day. It was the perfect location for exploring Hana and beyond - so much to do. The locals were so friendly! It would receive 5 stars if only the stairs were a bit easier to get down in the morning when you had to use the bathroom! Not bad - just had to be "awake". The owners really do a nice job - place was clean, nice island decor, wonderful flower arrangement, nice little gifts left for us...I can see why they have so many return customers!
Love that Little Grass Shack
McDonough (Atlanta), Georgia
I recently spent five wonderful days in Hana, Maui on a solo visit because my husband was unable to get away from work. I was celebrating my birthday and a new era in my life. My mother, for whom I was a caregiver for 19 years, passed on 9-11-10. I had a lot of thinking to do about what is next for me in life. Hana and Hana Kai was the perfect spot for deep contemplation of life and love. The people of Hana are first and foremost loving and caring ... even to people like me who would be there only a short while. Hana Kai 206 was in such a wonderful location ... right on a very special black sand beach and stocked with anything I needed in a remote area. I loved all of the special touches Shayla and Mark have put into their condo. It has a very island feel including the wonderful bamboo weaving that seemed to be old style Hawaii. That sleep number bed was the bomb too -- and that comes from someone who sleeps on a Tempur-Pedic. Although, Hana Kai 206 is separate from the condo group, everyone on the staff at Hana Kai readily answered any questions I had about the area, the condo ammenities and were just the epitomy of the aloha spirit -- especially Bobby. Unfortunately, I had a massive asthma attack at 2am one morning and had to call on the fine services of the Hana Fire Department. They came to my rescue in the middle of the night with a breathing treatment, medicine and helped ease the anxiety associated with asthma. Kudos to the Hana Fire Department paramedics and Dr. Robin Carter for coming to my aid in the middle of the night. Shayla and Mark even left me a wonderful gift of an incredible flower arrangement and other aloha goodies. I cannot wait to get back to this little grass shack -- hopefully with my husband so he can share in the love and kindness I experienced while in Hana. Mahalo everyone in Hana, Shayla and Mark for caring about what you do -- you have affected me and touched my heart! Read more

We are so pleased to hear that you had a rejuvenating time in our beloved Hana Kai 206! It makes all the hard work we did for over 9 months to remodel this little gem, all worth it.
We labored with aloha in our hearts, and one goal in mind- to offer a uniquely special place of rest and relaxation.
We look forward to your return when you can share Hana, the "Heart of Hawaii", with your husband in our romantic loft nestled on Hana Bay.
Mahalo for sharing your experience-

Just as advertised
This was our first trip to Hawaii. We spent two days on Oahu and five days on Maui. We had only one day to spend in Hana and were torn whether to make the trip in a day or spend the night. We chose the latter. Good decision! The trip to Hana was the experience it is said to be. We took our time and enjoyed this unspoiled part of the world. We arrived at dusk. The next morning we explored Hana and made the return trip around the south side of the island. Even if you return by the Hana highway, I highly recommend exploring the 10 miles south of Hana before you leave. Condo 206 was very clean and comfortable. Great views. Beautiful sunrise. Easy access from the parking lot. No ac--but this is not a problem with the ocean breezes. Hana is a different time and place. Probably not for everyone. Bring your hiking shoes, swimming gear, and appreciation of nature. You will love it. Shayla was very helpful.
Heaven on Earth is in Hana
My wife and I spent ten days in Maui on our honeymoon. We stayed in Ka'anapali, Wailea and Hana. Hana was the favorite of both my wife and I. This was a very romantic condo with great attention to detail taken by the owner. The view from the lanai at Shayla's condo was do die for. The only negative was that the smaller condo in front had the front door lights on all night making the view a little less ideal.
Just Do IT
Condo 206 was the perfect getaway for relaxation. loved it ! We are already planning our next trip. It was so delightful . Very peaceful and beautiful ! Recommended for all !
Lovely condo in Hana
My husband and I stayed in the condo for two nights and very much enjoyed our time there. The kitchen was very well equipped and we appreciated items provided by both the owner and previous guests.
The balcony was very comfortable for eating, and the round chair was super comfortable!
Adding the loft bedroom was a wonderful idea -- the bed was very comfortable. Lots of hot water in the bathroom and the shampoo, conditioner, etc. smelled wonderful. Having WiFi was fantastic as we couldn't get cell phone reception and my husband did need to keep up with work e-mails.
Since there are not a lot of dining options in Hana, we made use of the condo complex BBQ and it was great.
I would not hesitate to recommend unit 206 to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in Hana.
Beautiful condo, in a beautiful setting.
Very comfortable condo, with beautiful tropical decor. All comforts of home, and well stocked. Only drawback--steep stairs (for potty breaks in the middle of the night!)
Great way to begin our honeymoon!
The condo was everything we could expect and more! There were fresh flowers as we entered and a nice breeze coming from the ocean to welcome us. It was great to literally "awake to waves!" A big thank-you goes out to Shayla and Mark for their help in preparing for the trip and exceeding our high expectations for our honeymoon.

Perfect for a quite getaway,A perfect view. The black sand was wonderful
Adam and Edith retreat to Hana!!!
It was such an invigorating stay... though we planned on some hikes, ended up staying indoors, sleeping in and napping with the sound of the black rocks on the beach as they washed away from shore.
The accommodations were pleasant and clean as well as complete save for no TV which was just as well. Less distraction in the magical experience.
Only suggestion we might offer is for the loft to be less stuffy as it gets really hot despite the electric fan and found it less comfortble than the futon. However, the sleep number mattress was such a plus! We had fun adjusting it to suit our tastes!
Adam Falb and I have recommended this to a couple who plan to celebrate their anniversary next august.
Thank you for being a major part in our romantic retreat ;-).
P.S.- We thank the manager for kindly reminding the guests next door to move their party of 15 to the common area so as not to disturb the tranquility we came to Hana for. We had to get away from the noise and she rectified the situation effectively.
a mix of experiences
The condo is nice and all the amenities are there. Thanks for the boogie board, especially. The condo building is not built very well so that is the drawback. A very loud-voiced neighbor to the left and a very heavy walking person below who was up at 3:30 and shook the condo so bad that the bed shook and woke me up were the drawbacks. Once they were all gone, it was a great place to stay.
The condo has everything you need or want. A great view that makes you feel like your miles away, and out the front just a short walk to everything in Hana. The upgrades in the condo were beautiful. Thank you for a great trip!

review of "206"
My wife and I stayed 3 nights in the unit and although we felt safe, secure and the unit was fairly clean we had some issues. For the price, the unit was below the value we received in another accomadation the prior 3 days. We rented a two bedroom house that was magnificant for the same price and much more private and spacious. Unit 206 has been updated but still needs some ongoing "help". The bathroom (window and screen) and storage needs repair and cleaning. The kitchen is very small and the upper shelves can't be reached without a stool (there isn't one) or unless you're very tall. The unit has a working desk, office chair and floor mat that are totally useless. If you need to work at a desk while in Hana then you have a problem! The desk area could be used for storage (of which there is very little that isn't used by the owner's stuff, ie where do we hang a dress or other clothes). The chairs on the patio need replacing and downsizing, perhaps some simple director chairs would be better and could be used inside as well. But you don't have a table to eat at other than a bar as part of the kitchen. If it's raining and windy I don't think you want to eat outside at a table and the inside bar has one stool (you need a ladder to climb on to get in the chair) and now other chair except the office chair which is to low to eat the bar! The 14 or 15 stairs you climb to the sleeping loft with a wonderful comfortable king bed are steep and need a hand rail on both sides so when you need to go to bathroom downstairs in the middle of the night you don't fall. The unit supplied nice beach chairs and other beach "stuff", for that we express our thanks. Would we stay again? In a pinch and if it was for one night or two at most if the price was right. Thank you for your input on the outdoor chairs, but I have already replaced them because we had some guests destroy them- right about the time of your stay. We now have new solid teak arm chairs that are very comfortable. I am sorry you did not notice the foot stool provided in the bathroom vanity closet, or the rung to hang clothes in that same closet.
There are currently only 2 legal vacation rentals in Hana registered with the county of Maui- the Hana Maui Hotel and the Hana Kai Resort. Being legally registered, we are subject to extremely high 'hotel' rate property taxes that are about 500% higher than residential taxes. There are many folks offering their residential homes as vacation rentals in Hana that are not registered with the county and therefore do not have the overhead we incur by being legal.

Great little condo
Hana Kai 206 is a great little condo for a quiet stay in beautiful Hana. It is very clean and comfortable, and generally well supplied (however, we could not find spare light bulbs to replace a burned=out one in the floor lamp).
We had a great time there and would recommend it to anyone wishing to get away from it all in Hana.
We loved the condo. The view was wonderful. Falling asleep and waking up to the waves washing across the rocks was so very relaxing. We really were impressed by the bathroom and shower. The whole place was well designed and clean. We highly reccomend the condo for those seeking a heavenly Hana experience. Mahalo. Michael
Great Trip to Hana!
The location was perfect! The Condo was well appointed and the owner was very responsive. Ammenities including boogie boards, beach towels and internet access were greatly appreciated. The lack of A/C could be a serious problem in the summer if there is no breeze, but for us it was no problem in the evening since we were there in December. The bed was very comfortable and the porch was great for sitting and relaxing. We had a wonderful time and would definitely go back the next time we stay in Hana.
Relaxing stay in Paradise
We had a great stay at the Hana Kai 206. Lovely condo with easy access to the beach. Numerous amenities, and everything you might need if you were to have forgotten to bring something. BBq'd every night. Spices in cupboard and condiments left from previous tenants came in handy. If staying more than a couple days don't forget to stock up on food items since there are not a ton of options in Hana for eating out or buying groceries. A beautiful place in close proximity to all the local sights of Hana.
perfect Maui dream
When we finally reached Hana after an adventurous drive on Hana Highway, we entered the condo and our immediate impression was "wow".
It is a really awesome almost luxurious condo for two at a nice location. Clean, very well equipped, amazing sink in bathroom, no problem with parking.
Breakfast and a glass of wine in the evening on the balcony was a good way to start and end a day in Hana.
We liked the policy: Buy what you need and if you cannot use it up, leave it for the next one.
The location is great: In Hana there are two restaurants, both are more than o.k., one is luxurious but worth the price. There are a lot of things to do at the end of Hana Highway: hiking, swimming and sun bathing at nice sand beaches, horseback riding, organic fruit tasting, great landscape etc. It is worth to stay there and not just to drive Hana Highway forth and back. No need to go back to "civilization" in Kahului. Even the Hana Health Care Center took great care of us, when we had a minor hiking accident.
Yes, you can hear your neighbors easily, that is true, and putting a fan in the bathroom would be nice. It was very hot and muggy, when we stayed there. However, our overall impression was very good! We recommend Hana Kai Condo 206 with no reservation. We really liked being away from the tourist crowd without missing comfort.
Wonderful and relaxing stay at Hana Kai #206!
The condo is in a great location in Hana with a
beautiful view of Hana Bay. We fell asleep to the
sound of the ocean each night. We BBQ'd every
night using the nice, big "communal" BBQ, although
we were the only ones we saw using it during our
stay. We ate romantic, candlelit dinners every
night on the lanai. We were glad we decided to stay
3 nights in Hana so we could take our time getting
there and spend two full days exploring. One day
after hiking from the O'heo Pools through a bamboo
forest to (gorgeous) Waimoku Falls we returned to
the condo to drop off our car and walked all of the
way to the amazing Red Sand Beach. The condo is
decorated in a beautiful, modern, tropical
sytle...very soothing. We used the Ipod docking
station/stereo system and it sounded great. Cooking
spices, games, DVDs (and portable DVD player), CDs,
books(including Maui guidebooks), tropical shampoo
and soaps all provided by the thoughtful owners,
Shayla and Mark. The only thing we didn't like is
that we had to leave. We definitely plan to
Shayla, awaketowaves, makes everything easy.. Directions were perfect,
instructions etc... all provided with ease and comfort; and speaking of comfort,
oh my goodness.. Kitchen has everything, bathroom has everything, linens are
gorgeous, comfortable and of high quality; which makes sleeping a dream...
Beaches are amazing, location is awesome. We walked to the Hana hotel and
left our car behind.. thank goodness because after 1 of their Mai-tais l needed
a walk home..
We're going back... loved it...

Revisiting Old Hawaii
What a perfect way to start a 9-day Maui vacation. Rent a car, drive to Hana, enjoy Happy Hour on the Lanai watching the sunset! Perfect! Next day we were out the door at 5:45 AM to watch the sunrise...incredible! Condo located right on the bay. This place is magical! The condo was beautifully appointed, with much attention to details. Take vitamin B-12 2 weeks before going, to thwart the mosquitos, if you plan to explore the jungle & waterfalls. Be sure to visit Hawaii's BEST beach, Hamoa Beach. We would stay here again!
God is in the Details
The attention to detail in this lovely condo was amazing...from the intuitive and clearly labelled placement of kitchen items, to the double headed shower, to the king size mattress with individual controls, to the reading lights above the bed, the twinkle lights under the stairs and on and on. I was so taken by the care the owners had taken to make this place special, that I barely noticed the fabulous view and the sound of the waves every night. Rent it, you'll love it.
Very chic, modern, and comfortable condo, gorgeous view, plenty
My wife and I stayed here for 3 days during the last leg of our honeymoon. Upon walking inside, we thought the place was gorgeous and very modern, having recently been remodeled. The kitchen is well equipped with a huge fridge, lots of cabinet space, and pretty much any appliance that one might need to make a reasonably nice meal (including an espresso maker and rice cooker!). This is pretty essential when staying for more than a day in Hana, as there is pretty much nowhere to eat in the evenings.
The living room is pretty spartan and there is no TV (who needs it?) but they do offer a hard line internet connection (no wireless, unfortunately) with a good sized desk if you are work-inclined. The lanai is a knockout, with an amazing view of a black sand beach and perfect for watching a sunrise at the breakfast table in one of the soft high-backed chairs, or on the extremely comfy papazan chair. The bed is huge, decently comfortable and sits on a balcony overlooking the living room. The bathroom is large and has plenty of space for two. Also, they generously offer beach chairs, umbrellas and snorkel gear for use.
I highly recommend this place for couples looking to spend some romantic time together (my wife now affectionately calls the place the f--- shack) but it's prolly not so good if you have kids or third wheels, even though the living room couch is a futon. If I ever go to Hana again, I will - without a doubt - stay here. I have very fond memories of this place... ;)
Amazing and secluded
This place has been remodeled recently and every little detail has been thought of and considered. All the needs and comforts of home are here, including a canvas bag gift (so convenient, because I forgot to bring one!) A very nice place to stay in Hana. There isn't a lot of lodging in Hana so the prices / night to stay can be more expensive than on other places on the island, but Hana is so beautiful that it's worth it, just do it. I recommend beginning or ending your vacation in Maui with a stay in Hana Kai 206. I hope that we can visit again some day!

Nice condo by the ocean
We enjoyed our stay in condo #206. We had everything we needed. The place is very nicely decorated and comfortable. It has a great view of the ocean, too.
Beautiful condo in paradise
The condo was perfect. It was just my husband and I on a vaction in Maui and we wanted to stay somewhere relaxing near the water. The view from this condo is amazing and the interior is decorated beautifully. The kitchen has every amenity for cooking and there was even a cooler in the condo we used one day when we went for a picnic. Staying in Hana was a wonderful decision as it made the "drive to Hana" much nicer knowing that we didn't have to return the same day. I would highly recommend this condo particularly if you like falling asleep to crashing waves!
Beautiful, if a little pricey...
Hana Kai 206 was great- beautifully decorated with a great kitchen and a great view. We loved the seclusion of being away from all the tourists, and the convenience of being right near Haleakala National Park and other beautiful beaches.
Our biggest complaint was the lack of air conditioning... it was HOT in August!! I also thought it was fairly pricey for what it was... my husband and I stayed at the Grand Hyatt in Kauai for $300/night, which was basically what Hana Kai cost, and you just get so much more for your money at a beautiful resort.
That said, we had a wonderful experience, and would gladly recommend it!!
NorCal Trip to Hana
Hana is a wonderful place. Was in dire need of some "down time" and the Hana Kai #206 was a perfect spot. Unit was incredibly well appointed and the facilities and beach front location were perfect. We were heading to the busy Ka'anapali side at the end of our trip but really wanted to experience a few relaxing days in Hana...rather than join the masses and make the 1 day round trip. Had a great chance to get to know the small town and visit w/many of the locals. Highlights...day at Hamoa beach, nighttime bbq's on the front terrace, long walks on the almost private beach and the absolute randomness of the Hasagawa General Store. Can not imagine a trip to Maui w/out a stay in Hana.
Note: Owners are incredibly helpful and willing to endure ridiculous questions from someone that had no idea what to expect when staying over in Hana.
We will be back.
Great place to stay in a restful city
We stayed in unit 206 for 5 nights. I was worried before I came that I would run out of things to do in Hana for 4 days. But it was just perfect - very relaxing.
We had to make our own beds, but I liked that feature because I didn't have to worry about housekeeping coming in and moving things around - and I was able to come and go without worrying about anyone else's schedule. (But then, I wasn't the person making the beds)
I really appreciated the cooking facilities and the left over items from other guests - salt pepper, etc. We ate two nights at the Hotel Hana Maui - but I was glad to cook for myself the other 3 nights - because the Hotel Hana Maui only changes the menu once a month - and didn't seem to offer any nightly specials. We brought in food from the West side of Maui the first night - because there isn't much to choose from in the local stores.
The Boogie boards available in the condo were wonderful. I had never tried one before and it was nice to get to try it out for free.
The table for meals on the Lanai was also wonderful - we always had a pleasant breeze and a great view.
I was very concerned about whether it would be cool enough upstairs for sleeping. But by running the ceiling fan below at full speed - ponited up - and running the oscillating fan in the loft we were able to sleep just fine. (Maui was having a heat wave during our visit - but I suspect that the temperatures were only slightly higher than normal.
we loved the little extras - such as left-over provisions in the pantry (I had to go out and buy rum to use with the strawberry daiquiri mix), and left over suntan lotion in the medicine cabinet.
We loved our visit and would gladly return and stay here again.

Beautiful place with a beautiful view
The rooms decor and furnishings are magnificent - the appliances cups silverware, everything like that is perfect - the view and the beach the complex is on are very nice - there were some issues with ants before we even bought any food - an air conditioner would be nice at bed time - would stay there again but I would want to know what other units in the complex are charging - thank you
Nice place to end a honeymoon
For Hana, this seems like an amazing place. The apartment was clean and very well stocked. It was reasonably quiet, airy and centrally located.
We stayed for four nights in July to end our honeymoon and fully enjoyed our time in Hana. We were able to find food at the local grocery stores to cook at the apartment - although selection in Hana was more limited - and loved eating out at the numerous local road-side stands.
Pros: very tasteful decor and amenities, especially the dishwasher!
Cons: As with many places in the tropics without AC, the apartment can gt fairly stale smelling.

Maui Kai #301
I was fortuate enough to recently spend time at both Hana Kai #206 and Maui Kai #301 I used to work as a residential building inspector and I must say that both properties are very well constructed absolutely beautiful and very comfortable.
The beds were heavenly, the kitchens were well stocked and the views from both properties were spectacular. The attention to detail shows its from the heart.
In Maui Kai # 301 I slept out on the Lanai staring at the stars and listening to the waves against the shore. I will never forget it.
I also appreciated the labels of usage instructions on all the appliances. Your detailed instructions even included places to eat in Hana which was very helplful. The tropical flower arrangement left in Hana Kai 206 were absolutely beautiful and the boogie boards and straw mats were much appreciated.
I also understand that you rent separately from the front desk program. I definatley will return to Hawaii and plan on staying at your properties and will recommed your properties to others.
Thank you for providing such beautiful places to stay..

Relaxing, Beautiful, Perfect Start to our Maui Vacation
We spent the first 3 nights of our Maui vacation in Hana Kai # 206. You are always kind of winging it when you book a trip like this based on pictures and other reviews but the Hana Highway, the beautiful views, and #206 all were more than we expected and we had a great time.
Hana is a VERY laid back area and Hana Kai goes right along with that. 206 has a beautiful view of sunrise and is only steps from Hana Bay. It had all the little things included that really made our stay enjoyable. Boogie boards, towels, umbrellas, flash lights, coolers, all the extras that make your trip enjoyable because you have the toys and supplies to do whatever you want.
Hana Kai overall had a nice barbecue area which we took advantage of and even have laundry facilities which was also nice to have available after a day hiking in the rain in the rain forest.
If you are planning on cooking your meals while in Hana, I would advise that you do some shopping in Kahului. VERY limited shopping in Hana. Meat options in particular. The 2 stores in Hana are very cool but small and not a huge selection of meats (steak, chicken, lunch meats, etc...) so stock up before you come.
Our 15 year old son was a little taken aback that there was no TV in #206 but the DVD player and the library of DVDs got him through his needy times. Having the internet was also fantastic to keep in touch with the rest of the world when we needed to.
We had a great time in 206 and I recommend it highly. Shayla has done a great job creating a place where visitors feel like they are in a home. All the little things you could need are there for you.
Gold Canyon Arizona
Hana Kai 206 - Artsy Hideaway in Tropical Paradise.
Hana Kai 206 is loaded with artistic touches that bring the tropical beauty of Hana inside. We were greeted by a gorgeous flower arrangement on the kitchen counter containing perfect specimens of every gorgeous flower we had photographed on the road trip up. Refreshing after the long drive was easy with the unique adjustable double shower head and luscious coconut soap. The lava rock sink and beautiful rock tiles with turtle impressions really added a touch of elegance. All the spices and little extras we needed were found in the cabinets and even ice packs in the refrigerator - so running out the Hasawaga Store wasn't really necessary. But the store is only just moments away, with lots of history and interesting local information so we visited it anyway. The owners have provided everything you can think of to enjoy yourself while playing and relaxing here and their recommendations of things to do was right on. We photographed fantastic waterfalls just a shortdrive away, captured magnificent sunrises from nearby Koki Beach and off the 206 lanai, plus caught some great waves with the boogie boards provided by the owners. The loft with bamboo A frame ceiling and king sized adjustable bed is beyond comfortable - often its a challenge to not nap your whole afternoon away. The black rock beach at the foot of the complex is loaded with washed up surprises from the sea each morning. Oh and did I mention the coffee tastes 1000 times better sipping on the units lanai at sunrise ? This is by far one of the coziest most beautiful places I have vacationed. Its like you are hidden away in a tropical paradise with all the comforts of home.
All that you need
Hana Kai 206 was great. My husband and I stayed there for our honeymoon. The condo was stocked with everything that we needed, from kitchen ware to boogie boards. It was a great place to relax, we had a great view and saw dolphins from our lanai.

The Perfect Hana Getaway - without a doubt
For those who incredibly value the intimacy of what defines a getaway, location (to the beach and to town), attention to detail, ALL-INCLUSIVE (everything you forget to bring to Hana THEY WILL HAVE IT for your use for free) all while hearing the beautiful sound of the ocean's waves in your patio, this is the place to be. I chose this place because of the other reviews on TripAdvisor, and I am so glad I listened to those that actually stayed here because they are all right! And now I can join the Hana Kai fan club and echo all of their praises. Just make your reservations and go - once you arrive you will be just as speechless as we were.
Honeymooners for July 2009 - back on the mainland and still reminiscing about the BEST EXPERIENCE WE'VE EVER HAD!
(note: we took their recommendations of things to do and had the time of our lives doing the Kipahulu Taro Patch Tour - highly recommended!!)
We'll Be Back to Heavenly Hana!
What a great experience for our first stay in Hana! We have driven the road once before, but never got to stay overnight....Staying 3 nights made all the difference! Hana Kai 206 is so well located for local exploration...so comfortable, you feel at home with all the conveniences and necessities! Shayla and Mark have thought of everything for great beach living! Such a cozy feel of old Hawaii, fresh flowers and fruit upon arrival...to novel, up-to-date conveniences such as wireless,high-speed internet access, the bath that features a lava rock bowl with a shower with dual rain heads...plus boogie boards, beach chairs and beach towels! WOW!
We rented Hana Kai 206 from the owner for three nights after staying at the same owners wonderful Maui Kai 301 for 10 days. We had not been to Hana for over 30 years and we had stayed at the Hana Kai then. Little has changed in Hana but 206 is brand new. Everything has been updated and every detail attended to. The owners even had iced beer mugs in the freezer and romantic candles for the lanai. The little kitchen is fully equipped and we cooked in twice. There is a very comfortable bed and a great shower. The stairs to the loft are a bit steep so I would not recommend this condo to with anyone with a disability. The view is of a black sand beach and the location is great. We thought three days would be enough but we could have used seven to see all the sights. This is a very laid back part of Maui and a good place to relax. We will be back.
Had a wonderful two nights at the Hana Kai.
The accomodations are very comfortable and it has all the creature comforts of home.
Walked to the beach right from the place, and loved staying in Hana.
We'll be back.
This very well appointed apartment is on the first floor of the only condiminiums in Hana. We particularly appreciated the condiments etc in the kitchen that made preparing meals much more enjoyable. The one issue we had was the lack of adequate reading lights.
As frequent travelers, we found the cost of staying in Maui(east coast) expensive in comparison to travel in Europe. It is beautiful but no more than many other places we have stayed for a lot less money. The vog from the volcanic eruption on the island of Hawaii somewhat spoiled the views so perhaps so we did not see Maui at its best. Read more
Response from Shayla and Mark Middleton - 06/01/2009
Oooops! We are located on the SECOND floor of the only condo complex in Hana :)
We really appreciate feedback from our guests and have responded by installing a reading light by the futon downstairs and each side of the bed has great reading lights that dim for lighting to your taste...
Thanks for taking the time to review our fantastic condo.

Greatest spot in Hawaii
I want to tell you how much we enjoyed our 3 night stay at this great Hana Condo... Enter with a key in a lockbox on the front door, so never a key to carry around. A beautiful Hawaiin Flower bouquet welcomed us as well as local coconut candy-- how thoughtful of the owners.
What a view-- we sat on the deck and listened to the waves come in...
The Condo is totally remodeled with a wonderful bathroom with real river rock sink and twin massage showerheads... and natural stone walls and floor. The bubble bath and candles made us feel like we are on our 2nd honeymoon!!!
The kitchen was so well equipped, we were not lacking a thing -- from a cork srew to a potato peeler! Guess which we used mainly?? Ha
The kingsize bed was a sleep number bed and we could set our own "favorite" firmness.. Great-thank you!
The art on the walls must have been taken by the owners ,,,, ???? Great Photos of Maui or Hana!
We will be back that is for sure!
Thank you for a great time----

Great place to relax!
This condo is in a gorgeous location, absolutely relaxing with the sound of waves an cool breeze as you fall asleep at night. On our first night we watched a gorgeous full "moonscape" over the water with crashing waves, that I will never forget. The condo is very well cared for, nicely furnished, clean and comfortable, with great provisions that are dated and preserved for the next user. We loved our stay here. I have decided I am a HanaGirl, I love the slow pace, small town feeling, quiet retreat atmosphere and proximity to ocean. We have already booked at Hana Kai for next year due to the great location.

Well stocked, clean, upgraded condo on the quiet side of Maui. This place was perfect for a romantic getaway. We stayed 4 nights and it was perfect as a "landing pad" for our various day trips, but also perfect just to hang out in. It is a few steps from the beach and the incredible ocean sound (and tropical storms!) can be heard all over the condo. We highly recommend it and will stay again if the opportunity arises.

Wonderful sounds of the Bay
My Hula sisters and I had a wonderful time at this ideally located
vacation spot. We enjoyed the lovely sounds of Hana Bay as we slept;
the fabulous view and fresh tropical breezes. Also, this was very well
located for us as we were visiting the annual Taro Festival and it was
in easy walking distance. All in all, we had a terrific time and it is
obvious that much care and loving attention has gone into the decor
and appointments of this unit. We can heartedly recommend it. Aloha.
The room was really wonderful. Beautiful view; well appointed; everything promised was there and more.
There was a slight feeling of overall disconnect as we never checked in or talked with anyone while staying there but thee was really no need to talk to anyone. It was a bit hard to find in the dark but once we entered the room, we were so delighted that any frustration we had felt meled away. We loved the room, Hana, and all that surrounded it and would not dream of returning to Maui without including this special place.

Relaxing in Hana
Very relaxing, we felt right at home from entering. All the stuff was ready and waiting for us to spend time on the black pebble beach, my most favorite place on this earth, especially sitting on the lava perch watching the sun rise. The lanai offered a great view in the distance, although you can't tell from the internet photos that another condo is between this one and the ocean just below the lanai railing. The loft didn't offer a breeze so we got rather hot at night. We must be "slow" because we couldn't get some of the lights to work. As remote as Hana is, we brought some of our own food and found just what we needed in the cabinets to make a nice couple of meals. Overall we would definitely stay there again when visiting Hana.
Great location and view
We spent a glorious 10 days on Maui in August, 2008. The first week, we stayed on West Maui and we ended our trip with 3 days in Hana. The condo was perfect! The location and the view were spectacular.
The condo is beautifully decorated and obviously well cared for.
We highly recommend staying here.

Superb choice for Hana
Hana Kai 206 (which unlike the other sixteen units is administered independently) is a
wonderful resting spot in Hana right on the bay, and is walking distance to the wharf and general store where you will pick up food. The
owners' attention to detail shows both in their very nice remodeling as well as in anticipating in thoughtful ways the needs of their guests so far from civilization. The condo is perfect for a couple, but also has a futon downstairs. The sleeping area in the loft is very comfortable, and the sounds of the ocean are impressively soothing. Watching sunrise on the lanai over the water isn't so early if you've just arrived from the 48. You didn't decide to visit Hana for the town's activity--you came so that you could
enjoy without rushing the drive here, the trails at the park 45 minutes further south, perhaps the black or red sand beaches, and likely for the serenity and peacefulness without the development as elsewhere. For that, HK 206 fits right in, even providing if you wish snorkel gear and boogie boards
as well as Kona coffee, a full kitchen, a modern bath, and other amenities. In addition, the owners are personable and helpful, and their website easily navigable. They also provided considerable supplemental information both prior to the trip and in the condo, which augments the research a couple might have
done in advance. For instance, don't miss the lunch at Bradda's Hutt's. If you have special needs, they will do their best to accommodate in a thoughtful and helpful way.
An Absolutely Perfect Place to Stay
Unit 206 made our five-day vacation in Hana absolutely perfect. From the fabulous setting with its view across Hana Bay to the incredible completeness of the furnishings, there is nothing to compare with this condo. Every possible need was anticipated, from the espresso maker to a copy of Maui Revealed. Combining both convenience with a true sense of home, staying in 206 was more like being the guest of a friend than spending time in a fine hotel. Like so many others whose reviews brought us to 206, I can't say enough nice things about our stay.
