Seriously loved this place, every detail was really thought out and Wendy was a gem!! Fresh flowers, fresh fruit, beautiful deck, beautiful place. Our only regret is that we didn't spend enough time in the Bamboo cottage as it was our first time in Hawaii and we wanted to see and do so much. Next time will be spent enjoying the cottage and all it has to offer. Thank you for making it available for us. Great job!!!

Westport, ConnecticutWonderful cottage with easy access to all Hana has to offer

We stayed in the Hale Nanea cottage for two nights during our visit to Hana. The cottage is very well appointed and has a lovely view of the Pacific Ocean. The owner's were very accommodating and left us a beautiful basket upon arrival. It's located right off the Hana Highway on a beautiful private and quiet peace of land which was great to play frisbee on for my young son. Some of Hana's best sites such as Hamoa Beach are just minutes away and Oheo Gulch is not far either.
We flew from New York and spent our first night at Mama's Fish House Inn in Paia (Great too) and then upon waking at 4:30am due to the time change, we headed up the Hana highway and were the only ones on the road which was great. We highly recommend getting on the road early to avoid the crowds that we saw on the way back down in the afternoon. Definitely take the hike up to the falls in Oheo Gulch (the earlier the better to avoid crowds)...the bamboo forest was amazing.
We would highly recommend Hale Nanea. -

Our last 3 nights of our 13 night stay on Maui was spent at the Bamboo Cottage in Hana. After staying in Kaanapali and then Kihei to arrive at the Bamboo Cottage in Hana and stand for a moment hearing no traffic, no fans or blowers, no people was absolute heaven. What you could hear were the birds singing, the distant surf from Hamao Beach, the breeze rustling leaves in the garden. What an absolutely lovely spot. The cottage is on the property where the owner (Wendy) lives but is shielded from their home by a garden full of fruit and flowers so you are completely on your own. The cottage is spotless, and the care taken in building and decorating this unit is evident. We even bought prints of two of the pictures hanging in the cottage painted by Laura Mango as a memento of our stay. It is exactly as depicted on their website. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this spot to any of my friends and family. I would love to return and explore the area more.

We stayed three nights in this cute cottage in a private setting. The owners have recently renovated with thoughtful touches and a well-equiped kitchen. Hana was a great place to leave the rest of the world behind and really chill out. We would stay again.

We stayed a week at the Bamboo Cottage for our 30th anniversary, and loved every minute!!! The cottage was comfortable, clean, and beautiful (inside and out). We enjoyed the sunrises with our morning coffee on the lanai (patio). The hosts thought of everything to make our stay comfortable. It was the best vacation we ever had!!! There was only one problem - we didn't want to leave!!!

Spring, TxOtto & Wendy's Bamboo Cottage is sheer heaven on earth!
Left on 03/29/2011 for a stay in March 2011
My husband and I decided to spend a week in Hana after staying a week in Kehei. Making the choice to stay in Wendy and Otto's Bamboo Cottage was the best decision we could have made! From the time we drove up to the time we left (so sad) they made us feel right at home, and the cottage is perfect! Very convenient for taking a short walk to the beach or to a great natural swimming hole. The attention to the details of the cottage's accouterments, the fresh fruits and flowers, everything makes you relax the moment you arrive. Thank you Wendy and Otto!!! Hope to return and will send our friends your way! Many Blessings - Kathy & Mark, Spring, Texas

we absolutely loved our stay at the bamboo cottage. what a perfect way to end our vacation in maui! we spent the last three days at the hana paradise cottages and couldn't have picked a better place! the location was perfect..minutes away from the gorgeous hamoa beach. the facilities were perfect..we grilled every night for dinner and it worked perfect. eating out on the lanai was so relaxing listening to the birds and hearing the surf in the distance. we loved how peaceful it was. the bed was so comfortable, the shower nice and hot, the cottage impeccably clean. i appreciated the decor and the tiny details that made it a very luxurious cottage to stay in. thanks to otto and wendy for a fantastic stay! we will highly recommend it to anyone heading to hana!

Our 2 night stay at the Bamboo Cottage last august was an absolute delight! From the easy and friendly booking process online, to emails, and even an occasional phone call for a quick question, Wendy and Otto were the best! We really felt like we were on our way to a friends getaway. We were greeted in person when we arrived, Wendy even helped us unload our luggage, and briefed us on any needed details about the cottage.
The cottage itself was incredible. Lots of room, immaculate, comfy bed and linens, and everything you would need in the kitchen. We loved the lanai with the great gas barbeque and table & chairs, and spent most of our time out there. The shower and bathroom tile work was amazing, and very efficient. There was so much attention to detail in the whole cottage, that I could go on and on. We just absolutely loved it.
The Hana area is such a wonderfully "different" experience from the rest of the island, and one to be taken with awe and respect. This was the first two nights of our vacation, having left the airport and came directly here, and there is no better way in the world to decompress and really enjoy life!
The cottage was a perfect home base to do a bit of exploring during the day, sunning on the nearby beaches, or just enjoy the tropical paradise of the cottage itself.
Thank you Wendy and Otto again for such a wonderful experience. We will definitely return. -

Wow, what a spot. The Bamboo Cottage in Hana is now my "Happy Place". I go back there often in my day dreams when I need a little pick-me-up. You will find everything you need for a lovely stay, plus little extras like homemade bananna bread, hand made soap and fruit harvested from the grounds surrounding the cottage. If you go to Hana you must stay a few days to really appreciate the beauty of the area. Staying at the Bamboo cottage was the perfect spot for heading out on day trips to all the "hot spots" and beating the rush of tour buses and other visitors. It really is heaven and I plan to return again someday and not just in my dreams!

Berkeley, CABamboo Cottage -- Best Part of Our Trip
Left on 10/05/2009 for a stay in September 2009
My husband and I stayed at Bamboo Cottage outside of Hana for three nights in September 2009, and it was the best part of our two weeks in Hawaii. For people who want to truly relax and experience the “other” non-resort side of Maui this is the perfect place. It is set in the midst of lush tropical surroundings but with a bit of a view to the ocean, and although essentially a small studio cottage, it feels airy and spacious with a lovely lanai on which you can BBQ on the gas grill, eat/read/write at the large comfortable teak table, or just sit and contemplate. There were fresh flowers, fruit, and banana bread waiting for us when we arrived, and the owners, Wendy & Otto, were gracious hosts, available to greet us and answer questions but otherwise letting us be. Otto built the cottage himself and his carpentry skills were evident—appropriate bamboo detailing added charm, and the whole house had a clean-lined, simple grace. The slate shower was a knock-out, and we appreciated the additional back door off the bathroom so we could go straight into the shower from beach expeditions. The kitchen was also one of the best we’ve ever had in a small vacation rental, not done on the cheap like some. It had nice appliances, attractive silverware and plates that matched, and my big fav: knives that were actually sharp!
It was great to have Bamboo Cottage as a base for exploring the Hana side of Maui. We got to see some very special things that an out-and-back trip on the Hana Hwy would never have allowed, and then at day’s end we had the perfect retreat to return to—we felt like we were coming home. We were able to totally relax and would stay there again in a heartbeat. In fact, our only complaint is that we didn’t stay longer!
