Description from the owner
Managed by Kayak Kaua'i
A short walk from the beach and some of the best surf on Kaua'i!
A rustic but genteel retreat, this cottage is a small but charming two room plantation green cottage with white trim that sleeps two. A great honeymoon retreat. Rustic in its simplicity, this cottage was designed in the single wall construction popular during the 1930's and which has been lovingly restored with tropical ceiling fans in each room.
An open air lanai covers both sides of the cottage.
The kitchen is well supplied with dishes, utensils, pots and pans, table, chairs, a double deep sink, refrigerator, a two gas burner st...Read more

We liked this place a lot, secluded and private, warm and comforting. it is a very short walk to the beach and to Hanalei. If you want the North Shore this is really a great option.
We had everything we needed in the cottage and there was plenty of room for the both of us. Came away refreshed and relaxed, would stay here again, no problem. -

Not only is this now my favorite island to visit, I couldn't imagine staying anywhere other than this cottage. My husband and I had a great time! The cottage is so cozy and it's perfect for couples. It's nice to have a kitchen on vacation to avoid spending all of your money dining out. We used the kitchen often. We booked for 5 nights (that's all that was available for our dates) and we spent the last 3 nights at the South end at a beach resort. We knew we would regret not spending the entire time in Hanalei and we did. Staying a few nights on the South end alloted us time to see more of the island, but the resort was impersonal compared to the cottage. The northshore was definately our favorite. We even drove back up on our last day to visit Hanalei again before we left. I would recommend this cottage to anyone. The walk is short to Hanalei Bay and there's lots to do on the Northshore.

BostonGreat place to hide away in beautiful laid-back Hanalei
Left on 05/08/2012 for a stay in April 2012
Just the right place for a couple to spend a week. Clean, fully equipped (don't go shopping until you check out what's already on the shelves), everything works fine. Easy to check in and out, and Micco responds promptly to any questions. We particularly liked the large covered lanai.
Less than 5 minutes walk to the beach, about the same to town. Hanalei always has something happening, but it's beyond the reach of the tour buses.
There's just one double bed--no problem for us, and we got plenty of sleep. -

This is the type of place that will not feel like a rental, during our stay, it felt like home. The kitchen has everything you can possibly need, the cottage is super clean and comfortable. Nice little TV and DVD player. Great place for couple, too small for more than 2. Trust me, you will want to stay longer. Coming back soon.

I finally had to leave this place before my rental was up. I could no longer take the bed. Also I have been chewed on by fleas since I got there. The yard has not been kept up and there are trash can strewn across the driveway for a week and a half.

Sorry about the bed. Been actually the second complaint. Went and got a new mattress and yanked out old futon and mattress. The folks presently staying said it is a great improvement.
Fleas....there are no pets that have ever stayed there. Queried
folks who are presently staying there said there were none. They suggested that bugs may have been getting in through a broken screen, which has been repaired.
My yard person should have been emptying trash and keeping the lawn
mowed in a regular basis. Did look into it and have given him a friendly warning.
The biggest room...should always be the "room for improvement"!
Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
As the majority of the review attest, most folks have loved the place and come back again.
Thanks again.
A hui hou,

Nice location, two block walk to beach and about two blocks to town of Hanalei. Very cute, comfortable accommodations, although for these two middle-aged folks, the bed was extremely uncomfortable. Might be fine for someone without a 40+ year old back. :o) Only other down side was being able to hear every conversation, argument, complaint, etc from neighboring homes. Otherwise, great location, very relaxing and no need to drive anywhere, which for me is worth about 10,000 stars.

Great location a blk from Hanalei beach on quiet cul de sac in garden setting. Cute is an understatement and very clean. Well equipped but a little funky in the large kitchen...a 2 burner gas stove on a table. But no problem, it worked well. Slate shower will be a touch tight for you big folks. Close to everything in Hanalei like Postcards, Dolphin Fish Market, Baracuda, Java Kai, Big Save grocery and kayak rentals. Absolutely no complaints!!

What a beautiful "Hawaiiana" cottage. Perfect location - walking distance to both beach and town. Loved all the foilage. Doesn't get much better than a paypaya tree next to a lime tree for a delicious breakfast. We can't thank you enough for the hospitality, the beautiful cottage and the great memories. Very romantic cozy place.
House was perfect for our needs. Spotless clean with all the amenities. We had our 3 year old with us and she slept very comfortably on a futon. She loved picking the avacodos ("cavacados") from the tree.
We plan on coming back! :-)

Great little cottage in a lovely setting. Comfortable with everything we needed to enjoy every moment of our stay. Loved the outdoor shower and all of the windows.. felt we were living the life from the moment we arrived instead of transitioning in and out of the hotel scene. Had fun with the toys available up the street at Kayak Kauai. (Great people there... lots of aloha) Only problem is we don't want to leave.. we'll be back!

We were looking for something close tp Princeville, but not in Princeville. We also wanted to be close to friends staying in Hanalei. This little cottage was absolutely perfect for our needs. We had a 10 minute walk to the beach and the same to town. We would definitely stay here again or in the larger house in front if we had a larger party traveling.

Micco knew decades ago that Hanalei was a magical place and he built the
Garden Cottage as a perfect compliment. It sits in the quietest of locations at
the end of a cul-de-sac on the far edge of down town. One sleeps to the
sound of waves crashing. You can walk to the beach or walk to town in 5
minutes. It's nice, well kept, and maintains an authenticity to Hawaiian culture
that makes you feel included. We stayed 4 weeks with our 4 year old and
booked 5 weeks this year. It's private with no road frontage and we never
locked our door. The welcoming feel reminded us of being home in small town
Talkeetna, Alaska. I'm in love. -

SierrasOld Hawaiian style cottage
Left on 11/13/2009 for a stay in November 2009
Having been to Hanalei eight times, we found staying in the Garden Surf Cottage to make us feel like a "local". It is an old Hawaiian style cottage with screen windows and four doors that allow the tropical breezes to make you feel as living outdoors. While being right in Hanalei and surrounded by homes, it has a beautiful lush garden setting.
The cottage has all the kitchen amenities needed, except an outdoor grill and microwave.

This little, tucked away cottage is really a great place!!! Easy walking distance to downtown bars, grocery and shopping. 2 blocks to the beach and about 8 blocks to the surfboard rental shop located at Black Pot beach. I didn't need my car for 4 or 5 days. And by the way, it is pretty much completely accessible to adventurous people that use wheelchairs! It is not ADA accessible, but it is very useable. Thanks!
