The house is not safe. We got robbed and the property manager said she was supposed to change the key code but she never did. This same house was stolen about 3 months ago and no warning was given.

The cottage is located close to the beach. There is a small strip of public access between the property and the beach. It has great ocean views. The downside is the public parking lot right next door. There are always cars pulling in and out of the parking access, surfers hang out and party loudly. You cannot close the windows because the cottage has no air conditioning. This is usually not a problem on North Kauai, because of the sea breezes but the construction of this cottage (no attic) makes for an uncomfortably hot afternoon and evening. We found it very difficult to "hang out" in there after about 11AM and it doesn't cool off until midnight or so.

Aloha Dana, thank you for your review of the Surf Cottage. I am sorry for the noise that you experienced during your stay. We do always disclose the location of the home in relation to the parking area and will make note of your comments for future guests. Usually there is day traffic and things seem to quiet down by dusk. We do manage several homes that are a bit more tucked away from the beach access points that I think you would enjoy. Hope you come back to Kauai soon!

Property location is adjacent to public parking lot. Noise can be disturbing. View and beach access couldn't be better. Hot water in bath basin just a trickle. You need a plumber! Neither of these issues kept us from having a wonderful stay because it is very difficult to be unhappy in Hanalei. Looking forward to our next visit.

It's nobody's fault that the weather was horrendous but things could have been better at the rental if there weren't missing glass louvres on the windows to let the wind & rain in. We were cold. A radio would have been nice for general road information. There should have been some " comforts / necessities " provided to the tourists stuck there. After the stores & restaurants closed we had very little to eat no beer no rum & no diapers. We spent a lot of money in Hanalei. I would have expected a little more aloha during our shut in.

we had a wonderful stay. but the parking lot and traffic was loud in the early mornings. some of the outdoor stuff was run down....would have liked to have working bikes, working beach umbrellas for the stay. also missed having lawn chairs to sit in the sun. otherwise was great.

Loved the location, didn't love the public park in front of house. Too many locals staying late at night to bar b q etc. Should have been told about this negative

We loved staying here because of its location to the beach. It's a quaint cottage that's more charming than fancy. The kitchen is a little old and cramped...hard to maneuver in, but it didn't bother us at all. It might bother someone who wanted to do a lot of cooking or who is serious about their cuisine. Overall, the cottage itself is VERY comfortable and, while we LOVED being so close to the beach, being next to and in front of the parking lot and the public park were not that great. Anyone who stays here needs to be forewarned that your view of the ocean is seen through the traffic of surf schools, picnics, parties and general comings and goings of everyone headed toward the beach. We had a couple nights where people through pretty raucous parties right in front of the cottage and that made it a little uncomfortable. However, with that said, we absolutely had a fabulous time and don't regret staying there. Not sure I would stay there again solely for the location, though. Next time I'd look for something off the beaten path a bit.

There is no proper couch, the bikes provided are unsafe to ride, and there is no alarm system. Also, the street outside the house is always busy (very popular with surfers). People even parked in front of our driveway. We had to request detergent for the washing machine and dishwasher because they were completely out. Otherwise, the house is amazing. We enjoyed the boogie board and other beach supplies provided. Logan was super helpful too.
