Geneva, SwitzerlandOnly wish we could have stayed longer...forever maybe?

Alohilani was exactly what we were looking for- walking distance to the beach and Hanalei town, and plenty of space for everyone in our group. The house is very nice and well decorated, large comfortable beds in both masters; it is the perfect place to relax after a long day in the sun. There is no aC, so the rooms on one side of the house were a bit too hot at times, but with the windows open and fans on, it cooled down fairly good. We enjoyed the large front lanai which was perfect for dinner or drinks outside, although the mosquitos got the best of us. The house is well stocked with necessities such as linens, towels, nice beach towels, hair drier, even a few board games. We used all the beach accessories that were provided in the basement- great beach chairs, boogie boards, coolers, and we even (group of adults) used the kids beach toys to build an impressive sand castle:) One idea we thought would be cool to add is a collection of all the movies filmed in Kauai. Everywhere we went we saw houses and scenery we recognized from various films and would have loved to watch a few in the evenings while there (since there is no nightlife in Hanalei).
My only complaint would be the lack of curtains in a few areas. ie the master bathroom, where anyone out on the back lanai could easily see you using the facilities or showering, and the 2nd master bedroom on the lower windows, anyone walking up the front stairs could look into the room. It wasn't ever a problem for us, but it's an easy fix and would make it much more comfortable for groups.
I would definitely return to this home if staying in Hanalei again, and would absolutely recommend it to others. I would also recommend the ladies at Coldwell Banker Bali Hai Realty who manage the property. We didn't deal with them much, but they facilitated the process very smoothly and were very responsive and nice. -

New York, NYBeautiful, modern, clean vacation home in Hanalei
Left on 04/26/2012 for a stay in April 2012
We stayed at the alohilani for 4 days in april. Here are a few highlights:
* the location is fantastic- only 3min walk to the pavilion with access to Hanalei beach.
* the unit has clean, modern, and new furnishing. I think they are from crate and barrel because I have a lot of the same furniture in my own home.
* this home is really airy and perfect for the indoor/outdoor lifestyle. My sister commented she felt like she woke up at a yoga studio, which is the kind of atmosphere I like on vacation.
* the concierge at Coldwell (Lisa and Seqouia) is very nice, responsive, and organized. I had asked for 2 houses within close proximity to each other for my large family and that's what we got.
We look forward to coming back again in the future! -

This house is across the road from the beach and back from the road so you have plenty of privacy. The bedrooms are ample in size, kitchen and living room were airy. The lanai was great for having family meals and the BBQ was great for evening meals. This was a great place for a large family get together.

No CaliforniaVery Nice But With Issues
Left on 12/08/2011 for a stay in November 2011
Overall this was a very nice but not perfect vacation rental experience for our family. The House is in an excellent location and generally very attractive. It is very minimally but adequately furnished. The house has unsealed floors that show every water spot and stain. We were constantly nervous that anything dropped might leave a permanent mark of which there are many already. The kitchen and dining are bright and sunny during the day but have terrible lighting when dark. Our highlight was Lisa and Christine at Bali Hai who are great property managers and were exceptionally helpful and kind. We visit Kauai at least once or twice a year and will definitely use them again and highly recommend their company.

Alohilani is a very nice house. Setup for family, etc was great. On a bad note, the trash pickup changed on the week we were there so we had some issues there. Overall, great location with easy access to the beach with only a few loud neighbors (renters) during our stay - but still would recommend this location to others.

St. Louis, MOOur Kauai Christmas Vacation
Left on 01/06/2010 for a stay in December 2009
This was one of the nicest vacations we have had so far. The Hanalei area is really peaceful and beautiful. Some of the things that we were disappoint in was the view from our house. Sitting outside on the patio, we had to look into the living quarters of a house that sat not 30 feet from where we were. Pictures of the house did not show that. Plus housekeeper left little to be desired. There were parts of the house that didn't see the vacuum cleaner in a very long time. Thankfully the vacuum cleaner was there for me to use, so I did what had to be done.
Bedding also wasn't as clean as I expected. I had to wash the blankets and sheets. I also recommend that someone replace the bedspreads or take them to be cleaned cause they weren't fit to be touched.
The second bathroom also needs some type of window covering cause a women taller the 5.5 couldn't take a shower without showing all the neighbors her business.
The hair dryer in this bathroom was also broken and fell apart, so we had to throw it away. The iron too is broken and leaked water on everything.
I do however highly recommend to anyone that travels to Kauai to stay in the Hanalei area. We were within walking distance to the beach, restaurants and shops. It's quaint, peaceful and felt like paradise. Just the way I expected Hawaii to be. -

Los Altos CANice place to stay in Hanalei
Left on 07/01/2009 for a stay in June 2009
The house was very comfortable and adequately equipped. The lanai is
spacious up front and offers a nice view of the mountains at the back. The
hammock is a nice place to lie and look at the palm trees.
The walk to the beach and into town is short. The kitchen is mostly well
equipped, the showers were fine, though I did not like the outdoor shower. It
was too far from the entrance and I felt it was not private at all (large gaps in
screen!) I had hoped to have a clothesline outdoors to hang wet towels etc,
and on that "green" thought, I also did wonder why there were no instructions
on how to recycle glass, cans etc.
Having been to Hanalei many times before, we did decide though that what we
treasure in our stays there is being right on the beach, and this house is of
course completely surrounded by others, no view of the water. On the plus
side, it was still very quiet. Of course this is all reflected in the price.
We were satisfied with Bali Hai's service, the cloth welcome bag was a nice
touch.
