Davenport, iaFabulous house in a great location.
Left on 03/22/2012 for a stay in March 2012
We spent nine days in Kauai and had a wonderful time in Hanalei. Our stay was so enjoyable because our accommodations were so wonderful. The house had everything we needed and is beautifully and comfortably decorated. Beach gear, grill and laundry were great as well as the rental bikes that were delivered and picked up for us. We would definitely stay at Ka Ehu Kai the next time we're in Hanalei.

We throughly enjoyed our stay. The house is very clean, comfortable and welcoming. The house is in an excellent location, close to the beach and town. The porch provides an excellent spot for morning coffee, afternoon naps and evening cocktails. We did not want for anything.

The house was so cute and the yard was absolutely beautiful, although we spent most of our time of the lanai watching the surfers. Our only complaint was the fact that the parking lot was right behind the house. It does get a little noisy at times. Never the less, it was an excellent value for a house right on the beach.

This was an amazing place - we loved the location, the ambience/vibe of the home itself (obviously each item, from the hand hewn furniture and sea glass tiles in the baths to the original artwork, was chosen with care), and the open layout of the home. For us, with two teenage boys, there was plenty of privacy too - the ample loft area was a hideaway for them. The games were the first thing they saw and were thrilled with Monopoly, Life, etc. Lisa helped arrange for bikes and boogie boards - and there was a beautiful arrangement of flowers greeting our arrival. The house is well-stocked with towels and beach chairs. Wished there had been more glassware, and that the hedge that forms the barrier between the property and the parking lot had been slightly lower to enable a beach view while sitting on the lanai. About the parking lot - we were aware that it was there before we rented. We were amused watching various locals drive up and check out the surf: if the surf wasn't good, they'd just keep moving and leave; if the surf was deemed adequate, they'd pull out their gear and head out to the water. The only drawback to the lot is that it was a popular gathering spot for partying a couple of nights. Nothing too rowdy, but even in the quiet of hi we ended up sleeping with earplugs, as insurance. (You may need the earplugs anyway, if you are bothered by the sound of roosters!) The only reason I gave fewer stars on service was because the wifi was spotty. Initially it worked fine, then we had trouble with it. Fortunately, the neighbors had unblocked wifi!

House was beautiful and in a perfect location! Flowers on the table, welcome note, comfortable and clean. Few steps to beach! Upper loft is quite warm but downstairs area is the perfect temperature.
Communication with Coldwell Bankers before the trip was excellent! However, we did not have a landline (home phone) the entire time we were at the house despite notification re: this on Day 2 of stay. It also took us several days to get our Internet hooked up. Agency in town was very good about allowing us to come and use their Internet but this was not quite the same as having your own.
Last three days in Hanalei we had heavy rains and the road in and out of town was closed. Cb did contact us to see how we were doing and if we needed anything. We very much appreciated this service. -

We had a dreamy two weeks in this home, I travelled with my 18 year old son, my nephew (same age) and my parents, (mid seventies). Everyone loved the wrap porch and carefully sheilded yard that is pretty much looking at the best surf spot on Hanalei Bay. The only possible issue is that the pine trees parking lot is right out front. We actually liked this because we made friends with many visitors, but it can be noisy. The house is decorated simply and so tastefully and was easy to keep clean. We all loved it. I would suggest to the owner to update cooking pans and supply some smaller glasses. minor detail, but we never went out to eat, so it was a bit limiting. Overall it was a perfect spot for us.

Location was absolutely perfect being in hanalei and close to amenities but at same time easy access to the beach.
House was perfect for our little family with tidy garden, open concept plan and lots of air and light. Perfect for a family of 4-6 or family of 4 with 1 set of grandparents...ideallly 4 tho. One of the best beaches on the island on your doorstep, my husband and daughter swam and boogie boarded, surfed right outside our door. we also attended yoga classes at yoga hanalei, really wonderful teachers, shopped at the organic market and nearby stores..and farmers market on saturdays..not to be missed.
i was worried about the location close to the parking lot, however, the tall hedge and noise restrictions in the parking lot took care of all our worries. really enjoyed the privacy of the privet and gate...very tidy, lov ed the walk in shower and outdoor shower, artwork, and modern simplicitiy of the space. The only things i would recomend that need improvement are the kitchen utensils...no garlic crusher or peeler...i like to cook...as well as bed linens such as pillows could be more luxurious. Fantastic place. -

The house was better than expected - the very wide wrap around deck was the location of choice for everyone when at the house. During the short rain every day - this was a great place to enjoy. the upstairs loft is very private - just about the bedroom of choice for our group. the parking lot did not cause any issues for us- actually can not see it from the deck unless you try. the location of the gate to the beach was perfect as we did not have to walk through the parking lot, there was grass just to the left of the gate. As someone who has rented multiple houses in multiple locations, including very high end houses, this is near the top of our list!

We had a great time during our week long stay. I was worried that my 16 year old daughter and her friend would be bored and want to head to Waikiki within 48 hrs of our arrival.
I am pleased to say that after 24 hours, they no longer were texting on their cell phones, and packed their hair flat irons and embraced the Hanalei spirit. Our rental "Haehukai" was a great home base, with it's direct access to Pinetree's Surf spot, and it's close proximity to town---the house was perfect.
Initially I was worried about the homes proximity to the parking lot of Pinetrees, but it proved to be a great spot to both relax and people watch. It was not noisy at all, the locals were very mellow, and we actually hung out with a few a few of them during the great surf swell which hit during the week.
Again, I can not say enough about our experience...It was awesome and we will definitely go back.
Ps- When my daughters did finally arrive in Waikiki, they cried and said they wanted to go back to Kaehukai! -

Charlotte, North CarolinaWonderful island home in a fantastic location
Left on 06/21/2010 for a stay in June 2010
We could not have been happier with this well appointed, well supplied, and ideally located home. The home was totally functional and comfortable for our family of five. We actually felt more like we were staying in a friend's house than a rental. Although right at the Pine Trees parking area it is quiet and very private; we enjoyed the comings and goings of the surfers and other beachgoers. The gardens/landscaping are beautiful. Access to the beach could not be easier and it is a short walk/drive into Hanalei. This is a fantastic home to simply settling into, relax, and enjoy everything the north shore of Kauai has to offer.
Everything about check-in and check-out was easy. A couple of small maintenance items were dealt with quickly and professionally.
In short, we hope to rent this wonderful home again in the not too distant future. -

I stay for a week at Kaehukai, and though I love the actual house behind the gates, the location was an absolute nightmare. it is situated in the middle of a public parking lot. i arrived with my nanny and 5 year old, and found a man peeing on the front gate. i went back out to the car to get bags and interrupted two girls again peeing at the gate. The front gate is a public urinal. In the course of a week, there were loud cursing fights, daily drug transactions, boombox parties into the night, all just on the other side of the fence. I repeat, the house itself is lovely, clean, comfortable, and well appointed, but the location is a surfing scene!. If you have a family, and are looking for privacy, and safety as I was, do not rent this property. And i specifically asked these questions when booking, and the Coldwell Banker booking agent, lied. When i complained they said they would make an "adjustment" to my bill, and they have not. They lied again. All in all, we created a lovely time together, but i would not go back to that location, and would not recommend Coldwell Reality. Beware!

My children and I really enjoyed our stay - just a couple of technical things that might bother someone else - the microwave/island circuit blew and had to be reset - and the lights in the living room flickered at night - so just some electrical challenges - maybe not unusual.

We stayed at the house for 5 days. Had a blast. The home overlooks the parking area for a surf break called Pine Tree, which at first I thought would be a negative. It actually turned out to be a positive. Sit back and watch some of the best surfers in the world do their stuff every day and they were not noisy or rude. Very good group of people. Home is also close enough to town to go in for shopping and the walks on the beach are fantastic.
