We were impressed by the size of this house,2 adults 2 kids, with 2 bedrooms + loft space everyone had mroe than enough room to spread out! Living area was big, house had large yards and large laundry room 2 full baths. Drawbacks (slight) for us. 1 tv in liv room (could use one in master) and maybe another couch. Kit sink faucet and mster shower faucet need help. All in all, were were pleaantly surprised! We would definitely return, equally close (3 min walk) to beach or town.

Left on 09/27/2012 for a stay in September 2012
This house is well-located for a visit in Hanalei. It's about halfway between the beach and "downtown" Hanalei. You can walk to either in about five minutes.
Aside from the ubiquitous roosters that Kauai is famous for the location is quiet. Some reviewers have complained about the "traffic noise," but we certainly didn't notice it. Aku Road is not Broadway!
The house is adequately, if not luxuriously, furnished and has a couple of good beach chairs to take to Hanalei Bay. Appliances are pretty basic, but again, perfectly adequate for a beach house. The layout of the house is a
bit chopped up, with one bedroom isolated from the rest of the house. We found that the house certainly didn't seem too big for the two us. -

Generally comfortable and well located. However, Aku Drive is a busy road and the the house fronts the street with jalousie windows so it is quite noisy. the owner should consider replacement of the street front windows for noise purposes. The loft is very warm and not really usable.

we have stayed in many rental houses in the town of hanalei over the years. just about everything in a reasonable price range was already booked when we rented this house. it is a old house, everything in it is cheaply made, no remodeling for years. one of the 2 rooms appears to be a remodeled garage. it was clean and everything in it worked fine. the street that it is on is the main drag into the beach from town so it is always busy and noisy until about 11pm. the price for the size of the house was reasonable compared to the other high prices in hanalei now. i would not say to not stay here but if you can book early enough or spend a bit more money you may want a newer house on a quieter street if you are picky about such things, otherwise all was good. hanalei is a awesome town no matter where you stay, it is paradise!

The house might not be luxurious but it's very clean, has all the beach accessories needed and the location cannot be topped. We had teenage girls and they could walk downtown or the beach at their leisure and we could go out on a date:) Great service from NaPali, they're super close. We had trouble with the WiFi, but this is common on Kauai so we borrowed an ethernet cable. It might be a good idea just to take one when staying in a house as opposed to a hotel.

CaliforniaLovely house but terrible beds
Left on 04/19/2012 for a stay in April 2012
My family and I recently rented the house. It was delightfully spacious and clean, and just a short walk from the beach and town. The only problem, and the thing that would keep us from renting it again, was the bed situation. Pillows that felt that they were made out of rubber, a bed so soft and old that I could have used a Chirporactic adjustment each morning upon rising, and bedding that was just insanely old and grubby (kind of gross, honestly).

This is a lovely, covenient and comfortable place. Good indoor space and beautiful, private yard(s). We were 3 adults and two small kids. Plenty of space for all of us and easy walk to beach. Appreciated the extras like bbq and outdoor toys. Only issues were the main bed was a bit uncomfortable and the road noise. Otherwise, a very nice place with all the comforts of home.

Great little place that worked perfectly for my husband, myself and our two adult daughters. The location, 100 yards from beach and about same from town was great, allowing even me (I walk with a cane) to easily get there. Furniture was a bit worn, but they had just added wifi and a new dryer for a plus. Beds were comfy. Backyard was lovely with a very giving avocadoe tree. we sat on lanai every am for coffee and breafast. There was a resident mouse, very fat & clever. He could take the cheese from the trap, but other than that, it was a delightful stay.

Left on 10/20/2011 for a stay in October 2011
Rented in October 2011 - loved every aspect. Very large - would sleep six easily / comfortably and our group (3) was rattling around in the space. Everything we could possibly have needed was provided - beach stuff, toys, linens, books, CDs, etc. Appliances are "vintage" but everything worked just fine. Location could not be more ideal - a half-block from the beach and a block from the center of town - perfect for a family as the kids can just run down to the beach.

Left on 08/14/2011 for a stay in September 2010
Our family of five stayed here in September. The house has 2 bedrooms and a loft which is actually not really clear in the description. It is a simple house but has all the things that we needed for cooking and towles and things. There is a great private back yard with a view of the mountains from and a charcoal barbeque. The house has a ton of windows that are just screens (which seems typical for hawaii) and is open and airy. It is a 2 or 3 min walk to the beach which is beautiful!!! At night is gets very hot and sweaty...especially in the loft and there is no air conditioning and expect to be woken up by the roosters at 4 or 5 am whereever you are in Kauai...so bring ear plugs if you want to sleep. Hanalei was the most beautiful place to stay and driving across the bridge into the town had the most amazing views! There are lots of restaurants and little shops in the town and great Shave ice.
This trip was wonderful and we felt right at home in this house and would rent it again in a hearbeat if we ever come back to Kauai!!! -

Left on 07/27/2011 for a stay in July 2011
we really enjoyed staying at Ohana house, but seriously the appliances and plumbing are really too funky. Each (dishwasher, dryer, toilet) make so much noise when operated that its a joke. The dishwasher is rusted inside and the refridgerator has had a meltdown on it's surface where someone tried to re enamel it or something. The beds were comfortable, the openess of the main rooms were great and the privacy of the back yard was a delight. Just some necessary upgrades please!

Mill Valley, CaliforniaWe enjoyed Hanalei once again... but the house was just o.k.
Left on 07/27/2011 for a stay in July 2011
We have stayed at several homes in Hanalei and this one just wasn't at the same level for the money. Thankfully we were just one family...there is only one real bedroom, and the loft was great for the kids. There is a "second bedroom" that is technically a converted carport and it feels like it (I wouldn't want to row sham bow for that space). We stored suitcases in there.
The main living/dining area and garden were really lovely and comfortable. We didn't spend a lot of time in the house, but in the evening it was nice to BBQ and watch movies.
The kitchen is a different story... it is crying out for some TLC... there are not words to describe the state of the refrigerator and while there are plenty of storage cabinets they smell old & musty.
We rated the location a 3 due to the fact that the bedrooms are on the front of the house near the road... the road is busy around the clock on the weekends and trying to sleep was challenging!!
This is not a terrible house it is simply over priced for the quality of the acomodation. -

Great location close to beach and town. I was concerned that the aku street location might be noisy but the house is set back from the street with a large screened front garden and it was very private and peaceful. The open living room with tall glass windows faces the back garden with lovely views of the the mountains and local birds. A great house for teens with a loft and an almost separate studio bedroom that gave our two teens some welcome privacy. The kitchen that is open to the living dining space was nicely equipped for the rare evenings we ate in.

Anacortes, WAGrimy with a hint of poop and managerial dismissiveness
Left on 10/14/2010 for a stay in September 2010
The worst part about this rental is the management company. The managers are very hard to reach and it does not make much difference in the level of service once you do. I had a tough time even booking the place because they would hardly return a phone call (after multiple requests). When we actually had a problem (gecko poop and cockroach issue), the service went further south - it was clear we were bothering the manager with our complaint. When I asked, at the end of our stay, to have the cleaning fee waived, I never even got a reply (and was charged a full cleaning fee). The reason we complained was that there was poop all over the kitchen counters and a dead cockroach in the bathtub when we arrived. A simple pre check-in inspection would have eliminated this arrival surprise. But the overall lack of cleanliness speaks to a general level of neglect. The old stale bed pillows smell like urine, beds feel like circus trampolines, every kitchen cabinet handle and utensil is sticky and grimy. The shower and bathtub are so filthy with years of old scum they inspire no confidence that you will emerge clean for using them. The upshots of this rental are a private back yard and a short walk to the beach. If you're looking for Aloha hospitality, look elsewhere. You can stay at the Waipouli Beach Resort (beachfront, 4 star, beautiful, new luxury condo) for the same price.

Left on 09/30/2010 for a stay in August 2010
Our family of five stayed in Ohana house at the end of august begining of September and had a fantastic time. The phots dont really show it but there are 2 bedrooms and a loft and 2 bathrooms. There was plenty of space for us. The kitchen is fully eqipped with coffee maker and blenders and dinnerware and pots and pans everything. We bought groceries at Safeway on the way up and then there is a smaller grocery store in Hanalei. The backyard is great and the view is amazing. It is less than a 5 min walk to the beach. Lots of towels and beach towels and a washer and dryer. Hanalei Bay is a quiet town with cute shops and restuarants and in the most beautiful valley! It is close to the napali coast and a 15 min drive to Tunnels and the trail head to Kalau trail. Sleeping in the loft was really hot at night but we put a few fans on it cools off a bit. All of the windows are screens and open so be aware that there are a ton of chickens and roosters that will start crowing at 3 or 4am...but i brought ear plugs and couldnt even hear them...it is a part of Kauai and there is no getting rid of them. All in all it was a fantastic trip.

Adelaide, AustraliaA home away from home in the heart of Hanalei
Left on 09/23/2010 for a stay in September 2010
The house is conventiently located, within easy walking distance to the beach and to shops, restaurants etc. Although the location adjacent to aku Road, the main access road to the beach, generated some traffic noise, we did not find it intrusive. The house itself is quite spacious and well constructed, with large windows facing the yard and the mountains beyond. With its 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and well appointed kitchen and laundry, it would be suitable for an extended family. The house had everything we needed and some more. About the only improvement we could think of would be a larger toaster, as the one provided did not accommodate large slices of bread. We particularly liked the yard with its fruit trees (avocados and some unidentified citrus fruit, probably pamplemousse). I would have liked papayas (pawpaws), and scattered some seeds aolong the periphery of the yard for the benefit of future visitors. The manager of the property was very helpful on any questions we had about the house and on Hanalei.

San Francisco, CaliforniaHorrible Hanalei Rental House
Left on 08/26/2010 for a stay in August 2010
We have rented in Princeville before and this was our first time renting in Hanalei. Have also rented in many parts of the world and this was by far the worst experience we've had. Stayed for a month and it there is little positive about this house. Location of home is on a busy and noisy street that is the main access to Hanalei beach. It's so loud with the pick up trucks blasting their music all hours day and night in combination with the neighbor's loud motorcycle and nightly parties. Home's condition is distressed (bathrooms and kitchen need to be replaced as they are stained and worn out, broken bedroom/bathroom doors / locks and a refrigerator that was painted over peeled paint and doesn't work well). Only positive was that we could walk to the beach and restaurants (even though we had a rental car). House was infested with ants and cochroaches so badly that we called the agency and requested fumigators. There's no real patio and horrible plastic stained patio furniture. For about the same price, we could have had a nice condo with a view. Next year, we will not be back to this rental.
Response from Na Pali Properties - 09/01/2010
Manager
It is unfortunate that these guests were at the house a full month, yet never took a moment to contact us about their discontent. The beauty of this house is it's proximity to the beach and the center of Hanalei town. Hanalei is a bustling and extremely popular beach community. If they wanted peace and quiet, perhaps this wasn't the town for them.

Left on 06/16/2010 for a stay in June 2010
We love Hanalei! The house was perfectly situated between the town and the beach. We could walk to get coffee in the morning and walk to the beach next. Both are about 1 1/2 blocks away. Really enjoyed the sunsets over the bay.
The house had large windows overlooking the backyard, which had a great view of the mountains. Our three year loved the backyard and yard areas to play. Perfect to have our own space. Loved sitting out on the lanai with coffee or an evening glass of wine.
The only drawback is that the street it is on can be busy. We got used to it very quickly. It was great to wake up every morning to roosters crowing and the island breezes blowing through the rooms!
Also Jane abramo was great. Any questions I had she responded to quickly. If we needed anything she was very helpful! -

least liked was the door widths and bathroom layout, very difficult for some in a powerchair! -

The service was good. Na Pali Properties was able
to accommodate our last-minute request for a short-
term rental within our price range. The house was
clean and neat when we arrived.
The Ohana House is larger than we expected, which
was a nice surprise. Not one bedroom, but 2.5
bedrooms, and 2 baths. Very spacious and lots of
windows.
Loved having the avocado trees outside! And the
boogie boards came in handy when we walked to
Hanalei Bay.
The master bedroom has fan and windows, but still
gets pretty toasty. Also, we forgot to bring
shampoo and couldn't find any in the place, but
that's literally our only complaints.
Also, the cleaning fee should be prorated for just
2 guests and a short stay, but $150 is reasonable
for a a longer stay with more guests, because the
place is so large! -

Four of us stayed for 6 nights at the Ohana House. We picked it because of the location convenient to Hanalei Bay. It turned out that we had a great deal of rain because of Hurricane Felicia. So we were in the house more than planned, but that was OK. The house was more than large enough, was well furnished and worked well of the "rainy days" as well as the times we had sun.
On one of the web sites it says that it is one bedroom plus and sleeps 4. There are actually 3 sleeping areas and can sleep 6 easily. We were pleasantly surprised. -

We had a truly lovely time at Ohana house. It was close to everything - beach, town, you name it. Can't get much closer to everything in Hanalei without actually living on the beach or in the shops in town. The view (looking out towards the peaks) from the interior lanai was spectacular. Kind of surprised not to have some beach ammenities, like sand toys or a beach umbrella, but we left at least some toys for the next group. Would also have been nice to have some charcoal on hand for the bbq.

The place is attractively priced for its location. The value is because the street is somewhat busy, so you will hear traffic, starting early. Good news is the neighbors are quiet, noise diminishes by a decent hour. You can walk to the town or the beach, quite easily. The accommodations were very clean and comfortable, having a laundry was key to me. It's perfect for family, more so than couples I would say, since one room is nicer than the other. The kitchen is very well stocked with pans, etc., much more so than you might imagine. We cooked Thanksgiving dinner with no problems at all. No creepy crawly things were viewed which was a plus to me. The grounds have awesome fruit trees, two avocados and a pomelo. We shared all fruit with the passers-by just by placing it up front near the street. They provided ample towels and sheets, dish towels, etc. Be aware that the front bedroom is quite bright with street lights. The back bedroom closet smelled kind of musty, I guess that is inevitable in such a wet climate, but maybe it needs some attention that could alleviate that. A great family place to stay for a good price.

My fiance and I traveled to Kauai in February'08. After we made the mistake of booking online into a backyard shack in Princeville, the good people at Na Pali properties helped us find the Ohana House and change our lodging locale. We were SO happy with Ohana House - the amenities were great, with more rooms and space than we needed for the two of us, and the location was perfect, enabling us to walk either to the beach or to downtown Hanalei. We loved the large kitchen / living area. I definitely recommend Ohana House for multiple couples or large families.
