PhoenixHow Could You Not Enjoy This House
Left on 05/16/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We stayed at Riko Hale in late april and it was wonderful. The house was simple yet it had everything that we needed and it was very clean. The bed was very comfortable and the screened-in lanai was a perfect place for eating or napping. Opening the windows and doors let the breeze in and kept the house cool. The yard was lush and beautiful with the Plumeria and Orchids being my favorite. The lot is surrounded by tall bushes that ensured privacy. The mountain views from the back yard were awesome. Watching the clouds shroud the mountain is great photography. The flag lot has a driveway that sets the house about 100' from the road which kept the noise to a minimum and you can hear the ocean from inside the house. Since there are only about 30 homes to the west of Riko Hale traffic at night was rare. Not having any street lights in the area was great for watching the stars. The beach is a short five minute walk and Tunnels Beach is only a 10-15 minute walk. Beach walks at low tide in the morning was very nice. The cool air and watching the sunrise to the east was pretty tough to beat. I saw sand crabs and a few eels on my stroll and even had one of neighborhood dogs walk with me on most mornings. When we had walked beyond her comfort zone, she would whine a little and then wonder back home. When we researched where to stay, we knew that we didn't want a resort or condo. To get a house so close to the water on the north shore when the ocean is calm, weather is good, during the off season was really a perfect storm in my opinion. Driving to the other parts of the island required some time and planning but the secluded feel you get when you are in Haena is sooo worth it. Now back to our normal lives and dream/plan for the next visit. At least we know where we will stay.

Left on 04/17/2013 for a stay in April 2013
The pictures don't do this stay justice. Set off the main road, Riko Hale is a private and peaceful stay surrounded by a beautiful garden. Comfortable king size bed in main with soft linens, great main living space and cute outdoor shower and toilet (there's an indoor one too). Love the lanai, spent much time hanging with our 6 month old there. 10 min walk to our favourite beach on the entire island, where it's more secluded and private. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Riko Hale is a comfortable, clean, well maintained cottage, set back from the road. The yard is lovely and private because it's surrounded by foliage. The cottage has a full kitchen, and linens are supplied. It is a short walk from Tunnels beach, with a beautiful backyard view of the mountains. The lanai is spacious and the bed is comfy. The grill, washer and dryer are a plus.
Na Pali properties was easy to work with.

Left on 12/14/2012 for a stay in August 2011
We rented this place for my father's 60th birthday because although he grew in Oahu he always said Kauai was the most beautiful island. He loved the Riko Hale house and said the house reminded him of the house he stayed in the first time he ever visited to Kauai over 40 years ago! It was clean and very private. the mountain view was great and every night we ate dinner on the Lanai. Truly a gem of a place

Left on 12/13/2012 for a stay in October 2012
We were so happy when we arrived, it couldn't have been more perfect!
The screened in patio was so nice to have, we spent most of our time while in the house enjoying this room. We loved walking to the beaches, and being so close to hiking the kalalau trail. The north shore is our favorite part of the Island, we were blessed with no rain during our stay which is almost unheard of. The house got a bit warm in the afternoon, but it certainly was unbearable, we just opened the windows and used the fans, and most of the time we were out and about. The kitchen had everything we needed, it has a bathtub, which I wasn't expecting, the outdoor shower was awesome! The bed was comfortable, a huge plus for me!
We enjoyed this cozy spot and will come again! -

San Francisco, CAHorrible to work with Na Pali Prop
Left on 09/07/2012 for a stay in August 2012
Dont ever work with Na Palo Prop. They are dishonest and change rates in midst of reservations. Not only that, they have other property management companies working for them and dont communicate with each other. They quoted different rates for this rental from 950/week to 1050/week even though their website said 950/week for 4 people. Then they decided to lie and tell us that its already rented. For travelers who are looking for a trusting host, these guys are opposite. They are rude and don't honor words or website prices. If you want to have a peaceful stay in Kauai, stay away from them.
Response from Na Pali Properties - 09/11/2012
Manager
Our website and reservation system clearly states that all rates and terms are subject to confirmation. We were quick to tell this customer what the rates would be for their group and dates. Unfortunately this customer didn't like what we said. The customer then tried to rent the house at the reduced rate through another agency, we told them it wouldn't be possible. No other property management companies work for us. We're very sorry this customer was disappointed.

dallasSimple and secluded, short walk to beach
Left on 02/16/2012 for a stay in February 2012
The home was simple but comfortable, and the walk to the beach was only a few minutes. We could hear the waves crashing every night while sleeping. It was fairly private, and quite near the start of the Na Pali trailhead and several beaches, but we do regret being so far from town and having to drive quite a while to any shops and restaurants. It would have been good for people who wanted that sort of seclusion, but we would have prefered an in-town location.

This rental is ideal for someone who wants an authentic taste of Kauai. This traditional is impeccable. The large garden that surrounds the house makes you feel like you are in a very secluded area rather than right next to the popular Haena beach. The lanai a peaceful and an ideal spot to enjoy a traditional poke dinner. The the outdoor bathroom is also a nice perk as it ensures that you don't bring in sand after long days of snorkeling a tunnels beach. This two bedroom house was perfect for our family of four.

the house was very warm and we felt at home right away, everything was clean, the garden setting tropical and private, quiet day and night . and just few minutes walk to the beach, and only few minutes to Tropical Hanakapi'ai Hiking trail along Na Pali Coast of Kauai. I would recommend this beautiful home to any one who wants to enjoy a great vacation in Kauai.

This location/home was perfect for my husband and I celebrating our one year marriage anniversary.
The home was clean and large. More than enough room.
The kitchen was stoked with almost every appliance I could think of. There were tons of towels. Felt there was a lot of thought put into this home on making the guests feel absolutely comfortable.
The lot the home is on is large and private, neighbors are very nice and quite...I was not disturbed by any morning calls from the chickens haha!
Bbq outside is a perfect addition, almost as perfect as the outdoor shower and functioning toilet :)
I would recommend this location to anyone and would stay here time and time again! -

Riko Hale is in a good location; beautiful yard. We could walk to the beach next to the YMCA facility. Great meal at Bar Acuda, fresh fish from Hanalei Dolphin fish market, fresh produce from the local Farmer's Market and Joe's Banana Stand down the road. We loved it!

This home provided the style and conveniences we needed; a beautiful large private yard located within a few minute walk to miles and miles of beach, natural flooring and furniture with a large enclosed screen porch for dining and relaxing, great kitchen amenities, spacious living and sleeping areas, and a nice bathroom. The location was ideal for accessing snorkeling, expresso, hiking, Hanalei, and great beaches. The surf was very high so we were glad it wasn't on the water. We will rent it again!

Left on 10/21/2009 for a stay in October 2009
Excellent location, charming simple cottage with all necessary amenities, very private and has an awesome covered lanai and barbecue area. It is way better than staying in any hotel or condo and a very good deal. Just 10 minutes walk or so to Tunnels but a short 2 blocks to closest beach.
The only downside was the lack of air conditioning that made the house pretty warm if you had the stove or oven running. It has plenty of ceiling fans that bring the temperature to confortable levels thru out the house, except if you you're cooking.
Overall and excellent stay, unbeatable! -

Petaluma CAUnpretentiously pleasing
Left on 09/30/2009 for a stay in September 2009
Riko Hale was a great place to stay for two weeks. We loved the location- 3 minute walk to the beach, and then a 15 minute walk to Tunnels, which is where we spent a good part of our time.
The house is a pleasant, open cottage with a beautiful yard. The neighbor, Richard, was a great plus as he was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed playing scrabble and reading after a day of snorkeling, body surfing, bike riding, hiking or kayaking. There are a number of good places to eat in Honalei.
Other things we liked: There are good reading lights by the bed and in the living room, nice simple furniture, it was nice to have the screened in back lanai, the neighborhood was quit and peaceful, the sound of birds and surf in the morning was great to wake to, and the location can't be beat.
Suggestions for improvements: softer cushions for the couches and chairs (particularly for those with a bit of sunburn), better bed pillows, a safe for keeping valuables, working floor fans (only 1 of 3 worked, which was enough for us but may not be for more than 2 guests), a few lawn chairs or outdoor furniture (although the mosquitoes are pretty mean at times), note pads and pencils/pens, and a good kitchen knife. We bought a plug for the kitchen sink so we could do dishes, but a better one would be an improvement.
We did encounter some roaches, but we realize they are ubiquitous and prefer no spraying since that kills the geckos too. We just dealt with it by trying to keep food in the fridge or microwave and keeping the counters clean, and smacking them if they got too bold.
We would stay there again if given the opportunity. -

Left on 06/09/2009 for a stay in May 2009
Very spacious home. Very quiet and clean. There is both an indoor shower and bathroom as well as an outdoor shower and bathroom. It is walking distance to the best beach on the north shore (Tunnels Beach). And within easy reach of many excellent hikes, especially the famous trail along the Na Pali Coast!). A short ride from town where one can buy groceries, eat out, rent a kayak or snorkeling gear, and get a shave ice!

Riko Hale was a perfect match for our family. Very quiet and private, with a beautiful, big yard for the kids to play in. The kitchen was well equipped and the house is nicely furnished. We enjoyed eating all of our meals on the lanai while listening to the birds. Just a very short walk to a beautiful beach (not safe for swimming when the surf is up, but great for playing in the sand and beachcombind). The pictures on the website do not do justice to the house or the yard. It is a beautiful home, and we highly recommend it for those who don't mind being a bit out of town.

Left on 01/03/2009 for a stay in April 2007
The friendly Napali Properties people have assisted my guy and I for 10 years, 7 visits. Their knowledge of the area has provided us with fun, diverse rentals in the Princeville area. We have rented condos over the golf course and luxurious homes in the residential Princeville area, near the magnificent Prinveville Hotel.
Number 8 choice, the Riko Hale cottage location was different, close to the northwest end of the beach road at the start of the Napali Trail for a sisters retreat. The amenities thoughtfully provided for great convenience and comfort. So much so, we enjoyed being "home" after a long day outdoors. The sunny, clean, little cottage nests aesthetically amongst tropical plants and shrubs. Most appreciated was the privacy, the off-the road, gated site. We loved beach combing into the sunset, having just a short walk back home. We hold our memories of a lovely spot we are sure to visit again.
